Bellevue Big Picture School
Mahlum in partnership with Spee West Construction, 2023-2026 This addition-remodel Middle-High School project is a reflection of the Big Picture School community who’s mission is to “serve every student academically, socially and emotionally, through a relevant education that is innovative and individualized”. The building supports their unique programmatic needs while reinforcing the importance of student growth, facilitating learning in fun and engaging spaces. We evolve, expand, simplify and clarify the existing building by introducing a central connecting spine like the trunk of a tree. A spectrum of natural colors and textures create an uplifting, inspiring and calming variety of space. A deep purple inspired by their emblem guides students from the main entry through the commons space and the “Learning through Interests” Library.
