COMPETITIONS & RURAL ATTRACTIONS
Unauthorised personnel are not allowed in the stock areas during judging. The Show is very proud to organise an event that continues to offer a local shop window to the Wealden rural community. All sections of the Show contribute to make an interesting and exciting day for all whom love the countryside and rural attractions.
CATTLE CLASSES
The Cattle competition allows breeders to show off their cattle looking their absolute best. Judges are looking for structurally sound beasts with the ability to walk well and forage as grazing animals. The Show prides itself on this section and the Cattle Committee and Show Council work hard to maintain it as a vital element to the overall event. Cattle areas are expected to be open to the public after judging between 12 and 3.45pm.

The award is annually rotated between the Pig, Sheep, Cattle and Horse classes.

Heffle WI are pleased to represent the WI at Heathfield Show for 2025.
We are excited to showcase Heffle and our aim is to highlight the WI in Heathfield and nationally, with its fun and camaraderie.
Our theme this year is the WI national campaign for Clean Rivers and to showcase the important part they play in the countryside.
We will be displaying what we have done in Heffle WI and will be inviting everyone to colour in a dragonfly to take away with them. So, bring all the children to our stand to take part (there is no charge to colour a dragonfly!).
The WI stand will be decorated with dragonflies and lots of literature to promote our local WI and the WI nationally. We will have our well-loved tombola in action and other games, so come along and have a go or have a chat with one of the team.
We would love to see you especially if you have ever thought about joining this popular national institution.
Heffle WI would like to thank the show committee for giving us this opportunity to be at the show again and wish them a great success for 2025.

DOG ARENA
ORGANISED BY: THE UNITED RETRIEVER CLUB (URC)
SPONSORED BY: MAYO WYNNE BAXTER
The URC is a national gundog club, promoting the breeding and training of all Kennel Club registered retriever breeds, including Labrador, Golden, Flat Coated, Curly Coated, Chesapeake Bay, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, and Irish Water Spaniels .
The Southern Area of the URC offers a comprehensive program of activities for retriever enthusiasts. These include training classes for dogs of all levels, from puppies to experienced gundogs, as well as working tests and field trials. Training sessions are held at various locations, providing opportunities for handlers to develop their dogs' skills in different environments.
Gundogs, like retrievers, are trained to assist hunters by retrieving game. They are taught to remain steady until sent, mark the fall of game, perform blind retrieves using hand and whistle signals, and deliver game gently to hand . The URC's training programs focus on these essential skills, ensuring that both dogs and handlers are prepared for fieldwork and competitions.

14:00 Gun Dog Display (URC)
14:45 Scurry (URC)
15:30 Hounds open to public
We are delighted that the URC will be demonstrating the incredible skills of both the dogs and trainers in the Dog Arena. Added to this they will also be managing a couple of Scurries, open to Show visitors and their dogs. In a typical scurry, the dog and handler team up to complete a course involving retrieving canvas dummies. The course may include obstacles like straw bale jumps, water crossings, or hidden dummies behind cover. The objective is to retrieve the dummies in the shortest time possible. While they are competitive events, they are also designed to be inclusive and fun! See the Dog arena timetable for approximate timings of the Displays and Scurries.
Organised by Sussex Young Farmers, Terrier Racing will also be a highlight of this area. This display creates a noisy and popular attraction and is open to anyone with any breed of dog who would like to enter on the day. It’s fun fast and usually chaotic – a great event to take part in. Three sessions will take place in the Terrier Run at 10am, 1pm and 4pm.
To celebrate this iconic machine, our Vintage Tractors and Steam Engine organisers Sean Tompsett and Poppi Hillman-Smith have coordinated a magnificent display of this beloved piece of agricultural history at the Country Ways area of the Show.
Following on from the popular Fordson model N - also known as the Fordson Standard, the E27N continues the ingenuity and forward-thinking of the Ford Motor Company, which recognised the need for affordable and reliable tractors at a time when global food production was more critical than ever.

AVELING & PORTER A7 TRACTION ENGINE
Our special guest for 2025 is the return of the Aveling & Porter A7 traction engine. This engine spent its whole working life in Kent. The engine moved to Sussex in 1988, as part of a larger collection of Traction Engines. When the collection was broken up, it was bought by Hugh Clifton, from Battle, in 1995. It would be seen at many of the local Vintage Rallies steamed by Hugh and his son Steve. It was also a regular attendee at the Heathfield Show, where it would often be seen powering a threshing drum.
Over recent years the engine has been extensively overhauled, including the fitting of a new firebox and in 2024, the engine returned to the rally scene again.
We are so pleased to have the engine back at the Heathfield Show, for the first time since 2017. A big thank you to the Clifton family for bringing the engine along today.
