John Deere is no stranger to the telescopic handler market; the company started with a tie up with Matbro in the mid-90s with the company subsequently buying the design rights to build its own handler range in 1998. Deere subsequently moved its telehandler production to Zweibrucken in Germany, in-house handler production ending in 2006. This move coincided with Claas deciding to enter a manufacturing agreement with Kramer to build its hydrostatic drive Scorpion models, these replacing its predecessor Claas Targo.

Whatever the case, John Deere dealers have taken up the incentive to sell Kramer kit and done well out of it too.

The initial Kramer range sold through John Deere dealers broadly followed equivalent Claas Scorpion models, albeit with detail spec differences and a modified model offering (see tables). Claas dealers continue to support the previous Kramer built Claas Scorpion models.

KEY MODELS

Coupling up attachments is eased with the commonly specified hydraulic pressure release button on the headstock.

The best-selling UK model in the current Kramer telehandler line up is the 136hp KT407, the K standing for Kramer, T for telescopic, 40 for 4.0 tonne capacity and 7 for 7.0m reach. Other strong sellers will include the ‘compact’ 75hp 2.7tonne capacity KT276, the 136hp 3.5 tonne KT356 and the powerful 156hp 5.5tonne KT557. The remaining Kramer models all sell well, with regional preference reflecting demand from livestock and arable areas. On paper, the eleven model Kramer range is dwarfed by JCB, which offers around 42 telehandlers. Dive into the specs, however, and it is clear Kramer cover key spec demands except in offering a mechanical power shift. All Kramer models,

In the UK, most dealers will fit a 40km/ hr transmission where it is offered as an option by Kramer.

Except for the compact KT276, there are just two key Deutz engine power outputs, 136hp and 156hp, and again these are model specific. The upshot is you choose the key capacity and lift height you want and the rest of the other core specs are pre-determined for you. >>

Remote grease points need a check. What looks like a nipple at the top of the bank is a blank. Autolube systems are common and worthwhile option but some forget to top up with grease so check all pivots for signs of regular greasing.

WHAT’S USED

ECOSPEED. HYDROSTATIC DRIVE WITH A TWIST

Ecospeed hydrostatic drive uses a variable angle, as opposed to a fixed displacement, hydraulic pump that adjusts the power delivered to the drive in relation to forward speed and torque demand. There is no need for a mechanical range change between 0-30km/hr or 0-40km/hr.

In operation, the oil flow from the pump will decrease when there is a demand for more torque. This will help overcome the problem of the engine getting bogged down when the travel pedal is pressed home to get the engine revs but the pump is also set to full flow.

Ecospeed has three speed bands. The first will limit speeds to 0-8km/hr and make the travel pedal less sensitive, second offering a speed range of 0-15km/ hr and the third to the maximum travel speed. In practice, the operator can choose ‘low’ for pallet and general handling where control is the priority, mid-range for general yard work and high for transport or field work such as picking up bales.

As a used buyer this is good news. Choose the capacity you want and that is it. Limited choice means you know which transmission engine and hydraulic pump you are going to get. Right? Well pretty much yes but there remain other spec choices. This, plus model developments,

settings, slow 0-20km/hr and 0-40km/hr travel speed. There was a transmission option that offered a ‘lower’ range that limited the working speed to 7km/hr. This allowed the operator to use the throttle to fix the engine rpm, with the travel pedal further ‘lengthened’ to make it easier to accurately adjust and fix the forward speed.

As to dependability, early Claas Varipower transmission could have oil leaks. These were resolved, with Kramer Ecospeed transmissions having a good dependability record. The caveat, and this applies to any hydrostatic drive system, is that these transmissions do need to be serviced, with clean oil and new filters at 1,000hour intervals. Hard worked handlers, typically those tasked with towing a bale laden trailer over hilly terrain, can cause the oil in the system to get hot which in turn can lead to problems if the oil is not changed to schedule.

The Ecospeed Pro system is better suited to this type of work, but regardless it is best to know what you want from the used buy. If you want to do a lot of roadwork with a trailed load, talk this through with a dealer handler specialist.

SCORPION LOYALISTS

Those seeking to replace a Claas Scorpion with a Kramer KT will be aware that the two ranges were broadly similar back in 2017. In

outline, the later Claas Scorpion Variopower three-range transmission is essentially the same as Kramer Ecospeed and Variopower Plus is pretty much the same as Ecospeed Plus. The control software, however, is different. This, plus the evolution of the models over the past six plus years, does

mean there are subtle differences that could frustrate those who just assume a Scorpion is a Kramer KT with a different paint job. It follows that even though a John Deere dealer will be able to do a basic service on a Scorpion, and vice versa, there will be tasks that will be beyond the scope of the respective workshops. This will include resolving any problems with the control of the transmission, resetting the engine emission control system or dealing with fault codes.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Follow the usual threesome of condition, specification and service history as a starting point. These days it is easiest to come up with a list of must have features and then the options you would like to have but not necessarily be important enough to rule out an otherwise ideal used buy. If you will be buying with the aid of finance, compare what may offered by a dealer with a bank or other loan. If you have a good

accountant, it can be worth asking for their advice when doing comparisons. Interest rates are likely to be changing which is important when it comes to what you pay. Also compare finance deals between buying new and used. With the availability of warranty packages, especially combined with a service package, a new buy can potentially be more cost effective than a low hour used buy. It is therefore important to do some sums!

Rear camera option automatically switches on when reverse is selected. Despite the improved visibility of raised cab models to the rear ¾ view, a camera is a common spec choice on most models up to 4.0 tonne capacity.

SMART HANDLING

Smart Handling is designed to ensure the handlers remain within safe working limits by linking boom lift to extension.

• Bucket: The boom retracts automatically as the operator lowers it, with the operator able to modify retraction rate up to the machine’s overload limit.

• Fork/stacking: This mode works to keep the load moving in a roughly vertical line with the aim of preventing a shift in the load centre that cause a forward tip.

• Manual: No automatic movements, but if the overload limit is reached, the system will override any action that will lead to a forward tip.

The Smart Handling function is restricted to lowering only and clearly has its safety benefits but it is not perfect. As an example, the boom will retract a small amount when lowering which can make placing a pallet a bit tricky.

Ask about servicing. The typical 500 and 1,000 service interval may not suit your working conditions with an annual service for lower hour users typically being recommended. Service costs have risen over the past few years, with consumables to include oil and filters costing considerably more now than they would have done pre-pandemic. As a guide, think

nearer £1,500 for a 500 hour service and £2,000 for 1,000 hour.

When looking over a machine, check for corrosion around door seals and the underside of the cab and tinware. Kramer finish is good but no paint can resist corrosive muck and spilt fertiliser if left to fester. Poor cosmetics will not impact upon performance but will influence what you

The operating systems between Claas Scorpion and Kramer models differ but there is a great deal of carry over between these handlers.

Every telehandler has one common wear point and that is the seat pan. A seat cover is a good idea as this is easily renewed when worn. If

cover is fitted, check the condition of the seat underneath.

Kramer telehandlers have a good standard specification but that is not to suggest all models are the same. This early KT407 has a mechanical handbrake.

Sitting between the Ecospeed Pro controls on KY457, KT557 and KT559 models is the electronic parking brake will release when the brake pedal is depressed. The void where the handbrake leaver would sit (right) provides a little extra in-cab stowage room.

get back at trade-in time. Battle scrapes look unsightly but if there is no exposed metal to rust use as a bargaining tool. Lights and mirrors are vulnerable and not cheap to replace. If they are damaged items check to see if they will be renewed. In some instances, a dealer will offer a machine in ‘as is’ condition to keep the price competitive. Do not expect them to just fix everything as part of the deal. Check ahead of time.

BASIC CHECKLIST:

• A dealer prepared machine should be clean but expect the odd battle scar. If you do not like what you see, look at something else.

• Make sure you drive the machine and give it time to warm it up. Use this time to check the steering modes.

• Ensure models fitted with a mechanical parking brake hold on a slope. With the electronic brake, make sure it releases.

• Raise, lower, extend and generally work

the boom. If a bucket comes with the machine, take it off and refit to check it latches on securely.

• Crowd and tilt the attachment carriage, checking for pivot play. Look for damage to the hydraulics and related couplings.

• Waggle the steering wheel to check for play in the track rods.

• Air conditioning can cost a lot to put right so make sure it works as expected.

• Part worn tyres will help you see if the machine’s steering is correctly set. Uneven wear across the treads suggests the tracking is out. ALWAYS ensure the tracking has been checked when new tyres have been fitted.

• In the engine bay, check everything is clean. Cooling air is drawn in from the top rear of the hood and then pulled through the radiator and expelled via a smaller top vent at the front. Some do not like the heat haze this generates but the system works well when working indoors as dust stirring is virtually eliminated. >>

WHAT’S USED

ECOSPEED PRO

Ecospeed Pro hydrostat transmission was co-developed by GKN and Kramer. In work the stepless drive works in much the same way as the Ecospeed system, but it has greater oil capacity; 440cm3 versus 370cm3 for around 26% greater hydraulic oil flow. In work, such driving up a steep gradient, the Smart Driving control software will boost the engine speed to around 1,800rpm and vary the pump flow to deliver higher levels of torque. When the load is reduced, the engine speed will drop back to around 1,500rpm and the pump will open to deliver a higher travel speed.

This over-simplifies what is a clever system, but from an operation angle Ecospeed Pro will deliver a noticeable hike in performance that will be appreciated in applications such as clamp building and in transport.

Ecospeed Pro transmission offers 8% more pulling and pushing power, plus reducing the engine speed to 1,550rpm in transport. Note underbelly protection plates are an option, a point to note when checking the spec of a used buy.

WHAT’S USED

• Clean oil should be visible in the hydraulic tank sight glass.

• Air seat suspension should adjust automatically for operator weight. Bounce up and down, listening for any squeaks or rattles and check for play.

• Open and close the cab door several times. A simple check to see the door seals correctly.

• Look over the lights, mirrors and windscreen wipers. Does the screen washer work?

• Walk around the machine, checking for leaks. Severe dripping will show up if you have parked on a ‘clean’ surface.

SUMMARY

Those on the hunt for a used Kramer telehandler should find they have plenty of choice, with entry level high hour nominal 4.0t models selling from around £50,000. As a guide, a new KT407 will typically sell in the £100,000 to £105,000 bracket but it can be a lot higher so always check.

Key used tips are to know what you need and to stick to must have specifications. If you want a reverse drive cooling fan, air seat and a headstock with two outlets as opposed to the more common one, then make sure this is clear when checking dealer stock.

block as opposed to cleat design. The right tyre for the job can make a big difference, with a wide choice of patterns and makes now available.

You will get what you pay for. A scruffy, high hour machine on well-worn tyres is obviously going to cost less. As these handlers can rack up huge hours, this should mean there is a machine out there with more work under its boom that should appeal to those on a more modest budget. Where you cannot save, however, is with ongoing care. Same old story.

Trailer tip / rear valve control, pick-up hitch and manual engine cooling fan reverse rocker switches. When looking at a used buy do not just assume features like these will always be fitted.

From late 2020, a high cab option was introduced, this becoming the more popular choice as it increases over the should visibility to the right. Overall machine height increases from around 2.31m on 24in tyres to nearer 2.51m. With 20in rubber and a standard cab, this reduces to around 2.26m. The exterior FOPS guard on the KT457 to KT559, and all 3.0t to 4.0t payload models with the higher cab design, was changed to improve the view of the attachment when the telescopic arm is extended. A small detail but a point to note if you do a lot of stacking.

Kramer control screen is different to the design fitted to Claas Scorpion models, with a fourth steering mode fitted to the KT306 and KT559 as standard from late 2018. This manual crab steer mode blocks the rear axle to make it easier to run parallel to a wall when mucking out or working on a clamp. Subsequently offered on the other KT models, so check if fitted to a used buy.

Hydraulic pick-up lock does away with cable and is a feature liked by users as it tends to be trouble free. Note hydraulic trailer brakes, remote valve and large counterweight. It is the latter that is the key difference between the nominal 4.0t capacity KT407 and 3,5t KT357.Air brakes are an option, but these are more likely to be found on machines sold on the continent.

WHAT’S USED

FOUR TONNERS NOW OUTSELL THREE TONNERS

When EN15000 overload protection was introduced in October 2010, its impact on the UK telehandler market saw many users of nominal 3.0tonne capacity telehandlers move up to handlers in the 4.0tonne category. In simple terms, this essentially enabled loads that would trigger raise and lower restrictions on a post EN15000 machine to be solved by moving up to a machine with higher capacity.

EN15000 was superseded by EU Directive 167/2016 and EN14591:2017 for rough terrain variable reach handlers in 2018, these regulations clearly being met by all Kramer models. On the Kramer handler front the biggest seller in the range is the nominal 4.0tonne, 7.0m reach KT407.

Exhaust emissions are cleaned by the familiar DPF and DOC systems, with SCR on the Deutz Stage V power units. Like all handlers, short working times and ignoring active regen warnings can see the various filters and catalysts ‘clog’.

Farm Machinery sends best wishes to Lord Bamford who was 80 on 23 October

JCB was founded on 23 October 1945 by the late Joseph Cyril Bamford CBE in a tiny lock-up garage in the Staffordshire market town of Uttoxeter.

It was the same day as his son Anthony, now Lord Bamford, was born. Mr Bamford remarked “being presented with a son tended to concentrate the mind and when you were starting at the bottom, there was only one way to go and that was up.” It’s certainly been 80 years of innovation from a great British company that is still privately owned.

As always life has been very busy and while you are reading this I have just returned from taking a small group to Tractomania, Cassuade, south west, France.

Whenever I visit it seems as though the whole of Europe’s agricultural preservation movement has converged together and taken over this not very large town, with its 800 autojumble and model stands down by the railway station. Here you can buy a tractor, trailer, plough or stationary engine. At the top end of the town there are tractor displays and further stands and a lovely bread and cake shop. On the Sunday they have a parade around the town. In the next issue I will bring you a flavour of this event.

£8,000 RAISED FROM NATIONAL

Congratulations to Vanda Parcel and her team for raising £8,000 from the 2025 Easter Day National Vintage Tractor Road Run where 345 tractors took part in the successful Run around Stowmarket, Suffolk. In a recent presentation the money has been split between the two designated charities: SARS999 and St Nicholas Hospice. Here’s to the 2026 run which will take place in Cornwall which Martin Dymond the chairman of the Cornish Tractor Club tells us is coming on very well, for entry forms do give him a ring, tel: 07799 666088.

£20,000 GIVEN AWAY

Following the Rural Past Times event held at Horns Cross near Rye, East Sussex on 9-10 August, which was a huge success in great weather some £20,000 was given away to various charities.

The donation took place on Saturday 27 September at the annual autumn tractor run from Mountfield Village Hall. Congratulations to all involved.

BRITISH ICONS STAR

Tractor enthusiasts have a long history of exhibits to take in at The Newark Vintage Tractor & Heritage Show on 8-9 November the biggest late autumn event of its kind in the UK.

Two British icons will mark their 80th year: the Fordson Major E27N and the Field Marshall Series One, both tractors that transformed life on post-war farms and remain beloved by collectors.

It is 100 years since Holt and Best merged to form Caterpillar Inc. Its first track type tractors pulled harvesters and more, while today; the company spans electric machines, autonomy, and sustainable power.

Simon Eccleston, CEO of the Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society (NNAS), the charity which organises the event, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to mark the centenary of Caterpillar at our show.

“The machines are symbols of innovation, persistence, engineering, and community.

“It’s a privilege to bring together owners, restorers, and admirers under one roof, and to celebrate 100 years of Caterpillar together.”

Chantry Agricultural Engineers is sponsoring the 60 years of Zetor imports into the UK class, while six decades of Cummins engines will also be marked. There will be a major tribute to Gardner Engines, in a class sponsored by Stamford Shepherd Huts.

Heritage potato implements and handling equipment will be on display, and the organisers have arranged for a celebration of the Ford D Series lorry, which was launched 60 years ago.

There will be a celebration of Ransomes, Sims and Jeffries, which has an engineering legacy spanning two centuries, mostly based at its Orwell plant in Ipswich.

Ashley Kidd and his father, Peter from Norfolk, will bringing an E27N from their collection after a painstaking, restoration and will be in the hunt for a prize that’s for sure.

His work with be on show in Newark in November where there is a vibrant social atmosphere around more than 1,000 exhibits plus show stands. DISPOSAL DUE TO CHANGE IN POLICY

On 1 October Clarke and Simpson who have a strong reputation in Suffolk were at the famous J & R Waspe & Sons farm at Stowmarket, Suffolk. This family were steam ploughing and land drainage contractors and kept much of their venerable machinery to the last and some of these are preserved today with others including a lovely Caterpillar D7 and Fowler ploughing engines. With a change in policy James Durrant and his Clarke and Simpson team were called in to dispose of the lots which featured much classic machinery. It started off with the clean 1996 John Deere 2056 Hillmaster with 3,920 engine hours that sold for £16,200. The 1993 Caterpillar Challenger 75 in very good condition went on to sell for £12,000

A very busy farmer and a keen Massey Ferguson fan was the late Dennis Oakley of Jubilee Farm, Dorrington, Shrewsbury. His objective was to create a Ferguson, MF museum, sadly it never quite happened, although he supported many National and Welsh vintage road runs over the years. H J Pugh was called in to disperse of the collection on Thursday 18 September. It consisted of many original implements, some restored. The most unusual tractor here was the rare original MF 135 rowcrop supplied by Eastern Tractors that sold for

with 13,317 hours and has been bought by a preservation enthusiast. Looking very smart grade 10 was the farm's main tractor a 2000 Renault Ares 735RZ four-wheel drive with 12,395 on the clock that was got away at £14,200. Next came three Case-IH machines starting with the 1994 Maxxum 5150 four-wheel drive and 11,153 hours which sold here for £12,750 grade 9.8. The 1990 1255XL four-wheel drive with 8,493 hours in grade 9.7 condition raised £14,700 and the 1986 Meltham built 1594 Hydrashift grade 9.7 was yours at £7,200.

Yet another good sale from this well liked and accomplished company who try to do things right. They have a huge agricultural sale collective coming up at their HQ site in November.

The farms newest tractor was a 2003 Massey Ferguson 4345 with 4,036h grade 9.4 sold for £12,700 with VAT on all prices. As for the many Ferguson implements they made average prices with Ferguson hydrovane compressor in grade 4 condition selling for £2,000. A similar price was achieved for the Ferguson steel muck spreader and the so so Ferguson 704 winch grade 2/3 made £1,200.

HUGE EASTERN FARMS MACHNERY SALE

Eastern Farms Ltd, at Mill Farm, Somersham, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire held a 342 lot change of policy sale which saw some big kit dispersed. It started off with a 2020 Richard Western GRS25 tri-axle grain chaser trailer selling for £49,500. The 2017 Bailey TB18 10 tonne tandem axle trailer with roll over cover raised £18,500.

The sale then moved onto a 2019 John Deere XUM855M UTV Gator at £13,500 with 1,057 hours on the clock. After which a whole host of Ford Transit vans were disposed of dating from 2011-2018 mostly with an average of 160,000 miles on the clock. These sold from £3,500-£5,000 and the Land Rover Freelander XS TD4E with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock was yours at £750.

The sale then continued to the main tractor lots starting with the 2022 JCB 536-95 Agri-iXtra with 5,100 hours on the clock and JCB Qfit headstock, pallet tines, Dual Tech VT in grade 10 condition

got away for £47,000. The 2020 example with similar specification with 4,275 hours raised £46,000.

The 2021 JCB 435S 50k loading shovel with 2,700 hours and Michelin tyres like the other JCBs here looked in superb order and was knocked down at £107,000. The 2024 BA Caulkett high tip bucket with JCB Volvo loading brackets was in high demand at £9,500.

Next was the 2018 John Deere 6155R AutoPowr with front and cab suspension, trailer air brakes, BKT tyres, front linkage and 7,690 hours, sold quickly at £49,500. The sale moved quickly to the 2022 John Deere 6R215 AutoPowr with 50k box with Trelleborg TM900 tyres and wheels and just 2,881 hours, at £98,000. Next on the 2022 John Deere 6R215 with 3,555 hours and similar specification changed hands at £89,500 like all the tractors here in grade 10 condition. The 2024 John Deere 6R215 AutoPowr with 1,507 hours, one they all

wanted, was got away at £118,000.

The mighty 2023 John Deere 9RX640 E18 36in tracked machine with Cat 5 linkage and Premium visibility package, Gen4, 4600 Command Centre with 1,180 hours was finally got away at £270,000. But that was not all as also on the farm from new was another tracked 2019 John Deere 9630RX E18. It had similar specification, but new tracks and undercarriage on 3,260 hours, it reached £162,000 and is still for sale.

Lastly the 2022 John Deere X91100 45ft combine with HD45X header on 2022 Ziegler Power Carrier header trailer with ProDrive XL 40kpm transmission and 1,288 engine hours with a warranty until 2027. This started off at £250,000 and got to £304,000 and is still for sale.

The sale finished off with a couple of JD Starfire 6000 receiver domes, one unlocked to RTK the other SF1 making £4,000 each. This was just one of the many Cheffins sales they undertook in September to November.

ALL-NEW HIGH-TECH FASTRAC 6000 SERIES TRACTORS

JCB has launched an all-new series of its unique Fastrac high-speed tractor to provide farmers and contractors with a feature-laden highly productive power unit suited to a multitude of field and transport tasks.

The new Fastrac 6000 Series features:

• New models – 6260 with 284hp and 6300 with 335hp

• New powertrain for optimum power, torque and fuel-efficiency

• New central tyre inflation system (CTIS) for optimal field and road pressures

• Unique multiple mode four-wheel steering with optional Twin Steer

• Unique advanced double-acting suspension front and rear

FASTRAC 6000 SERIES MODELS

There are two models of the new Fastrac, both running on 38in or 34in rims all round

and 600mm to 710mm wide tyres, with selectable two-wheel and multi-mode fourwheel steering as standard, and maximum top speed of 66kph (41mph).

With peak power outputs of 284hp from the 6260 and 335hp for the 6300, the newcomers complement the current 60kph Fastrac 4000 with up to 235hp and the 70kph Fastrac 8000 with up to 348hp.

New optional features include a fullyintegrated tyre inflation management system providing quick access to optimal field and road pressures, and a satellite guidance installation comprising two receivers for quicker and more precise line acquisition, more accurate tracking over an undulating field surface, and enabling Twin Steer ultraprecision guidance that steers both axles.

CHASSIS AND POWERTRAIN

Housed in a new chassis concept

bringing together a front casting and fabricated steel rear section, a 6.7 litre FPT six-cylinder engine delivers peak power at 1,850rpm alongside a torque curve that rises under heavy load to peak at 1,400rpm, generating 1,275Nm torque for the Fastrac 6260 and 1,400Nm for the 6300.

At least 95% of the maximum torque output is delivered across a 600rpm band from 1,200-1,800rpm, providing plenty of back-up “grunt” when ploughing or cultivating into a patch of tougher ground, or when pulling up an incline on the road.

A power-matched and well-proven ZF Eccom 3.1 stepless transmission delivers seamless speed changes with a high proportion of mechanical drive efficiency at key field and transport speeds, with JCB’s Smart Transmission Control ensuring optimum control for different applications. The heavy-duty chassis casting is sculpted

to allow the tightest possible front axle steer angle, and is pre-prepared to easily fit front loader brackets, while the engine installation is as narrow as possible for the best view from the cab to the front wheels and beyond.

HYDRAULICS AND POWER TAKE-OFF

High output variable-flow hydraulics cater for modern implements with a 205 litre/min pump as standard, plus a second pump option for a total of 410 litre/min for the Fastrac 6300, all supplied through a new hydraulic valve block with lever-operated push-out, pull-in couplings.

At the rear, an 11,000kg three-point linkage – attached to the back axle to retain full suspension movement under load – and four speed power take-off cater for all implement types, while the optional 5,000kg lift front linkage is complemented by a 1,000rpm power take-off with the new feature of a six spline and 21 spline reversible shaft.

The Fastrac’s unique rear load deck – of 5,000kg capacity in this case – provides a third mounting location for equipment such as a sprayer or a liquid tank supplying fertiliser to a potato planter.

TYRE INFLATION MANAGEMENT

JCB engineers have developed a central tyre inflation system (CTIS) with special design features for reliability, minimal maintenance and a long service life for key components.

It enables operators to switch quickly between the most appropriate tyre pressures for field work – giving maximum traction and flotation – and for road travel, which requires slightly higher pressures, with fuel economy benefitting in both cases.

HYDRO-PNEUMATIC SUSPENSION

The Fastrac’s unique self-levelling advanced suspension for both axles gives the new 6000 Series tractors the highest levels of driver comfort and well-being over long working days, while helping maintain favourable weight distribution and full suspension travel under heavy load. When operating demountable equipment

on the rear deck, the hydro-pneumatic system enables the tractor to ‘squat’ as it reverses beneath a parked sprayer or spreader, resulting in easy, effort-free coupling.

Large externally mounted brake discs and callipers provide exceptional braking performance and unfettered access for inspection, servicing and maintenance, with electronic ABS anti-lock maximising the braking effect while preventing uncontrolled skidding on hard-surfaced roads and loose-surfaced tracks alike.

A new brake pad wear indicator helps operators avoid the risk of worn pads causing reduced braking and damage to the discs, and the new hub-mounted discs are quicker and easier to replace – in just three to four hours, in stark contrast to the two to three days required to change a conventional tractor’s internal brake discs.

INTELLIGENT STEERING

A further improved steering system provides smoother and more progressive transition between conventional two-wheel steer and the multiple four-wheel steering modes available at low speeds on the road and for different field applications.

The Fastrac’s optional Twin Steer system available through JCB GPS controls the two axles individually, so the tractor can steer crab-wise directly to a field guidance wayline at a headland or if a correction is needed to keep an implement on track,

especially across sloping ground.

The system is highly effective at maintaining accurately spaced and positioned rows when sowing high-value vegetable and salad crops grown in beds, and at eliminating damage to crops or beds during multi-pass operations.

ICON DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

The JCB iCON display that provides a host of information to the operator can now be complemented by a second unit so that more information is visible at any time.

There is also even greater flexibility for operators to populate the display with the content of their choice – such as guidance, camera view, ISOBUS, section control, etc.

Operators can create multiple profiles of control set-ups and tractor and implement settings, saving them for quick recall when next carrying out the same operation.

JCB LiveLink telematics for remote tractor monitoring and records, and optional ISOBUS electronic implement control are available, along with the ability to allocate functions to different controls and use Section Control and Variable Rate Control precision farming technology.

JCB’s factory-installed satellite guidance option is unique to the Fastrac 6000 in having two NovAtel satellite signal receivers as standard, a set-up that provides highly accurate low-speed guidance, increased accuracy over undulating terrain and quicker, more precise acquisition of pre-set waylines.

FENDT UNVEILS NEW TECHNOLOGY

Fendt is pushing the boundaries of machinery even further by showing new battery, artificial intelligence and autonomous technology at Agritechnica in its new Fendt Future Zone.

Fendt launched the battery-electric e107 V Vario in 2023, followed by the standard e107 Vario in 2024. Both models offer 50 kW (68 hp) in Eco mode and up to 66 kW (90 hp) for a short time in Dynamic+ mode.

A new Fendt e100 Vario with a batteryelectric range extender from GreenIng

will be on show for the first time at Agritechnica. The range extender will be mounted on the front linkage with a precision seed drill mounted on the rear linkage which uses relay cropping and a row and lane detection local guidance system.

“This is a ground-breaking system that operates independently of GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) to use environment sensors which follow land contours precisely and dynamically without

tramlines, a swath or a series of plants in advance,” said Fendt’s Ed Dennett.

The recently launched Fendt 800 Vario features a new cab with a new lighting concept and options for installing sensors such as the Tech Rails and numerous smart farming options including the new Fendt Workgroup function, Tramline Control or TIM.

At Agritechnica, visitors will be able to see the 800 Vario with a new OutRun retrofit kit from PTx Trimble which provides autonomous driving.

“With this system, the Fendt 800 Vario can act autonomously when harvesting with a trailer or with the OutRun Tillage Kit, it can autonomously carry out soil cultivation after harvesting,” added Mr Dennett.

The OutRun retrofit kit links combine harvesters and grain carts to carry out some harvest work autonomously.

“This could be a big breakthrough for areas that struggle to find sufficient labour when it comes to harvest. Obstacle detection sensors on the tractor and intelligent route planning will enable the combine operator to request the tractor via a tablet whilst moving,” said Mr Dennett.

A further Fendt and PTx Trimble development is RowPilot, an AI-based row management system that can be used to manage mechanical hoeing devices with ISOBUS compatibility. The artificial intelligence-driven technology recognises plants at soil level which increases accuracy on slopes and in windy conditions. The drift of the hoe on the slope is additionally compensated

for by an additional position sensor.

“In contrast to conventional systems, AI relies not only on the colour of the crops, but also on its geometric properties. This means RowPilot can even operate in areas with dense weed coverage and inhomogeneous crops,” added Mr Dennett.

Operators using RowPilot can set the position of the camera and the row spacing on the terminal. Information on the height, width or colour of the crop are not needed, enabling the system to quickly change between different crops. The system also

facilitates individual row lift which operates automatically using section control or by controlling the lateral-shift frame.

“Fendt has recently launched new tractor ranges but these developments in battery, autonomous and AI driven technologies are a sign of how a new type of machinedriven efficiency is going to help farming save time and money. Agritechnica is the perfect location to show these exciting developments, and we look forward to welcoming visitors to the Fendt Future Zone,” concluded Mr Dennett.

WELL-ESTABLISHED MACHINE AT HOME IN SMALL VINEYARDS

Not all growers need a hundred horsepower tractor for their vineyard. Not all growers need GPS, or electric spools, or the ability to spray three rows at a time using ISOBUS controlled sprayers. For privately owned or smaller vineyards, a new bespoke vineyard or fruit tractor is an extravagance, while a used one requires careful research to avoid potential breakdowns and the associated downtime.

The New Holland Boomer tractor is a wellestablished machine often seen on sports pitches, in commercial settings or country estates but it is equally at home in small vineyards where it might be tough to make the most of a speciality tractor’s spec.

The range covers from 24hp-57hp, but it is the range topping Boomer 50 and Boomer 55, with 52hp and 57hp respectively, that slot into a 2.2m row and are best placed to handle the required kit. Both machines are 1.5m wide when fitted with the standard 360/70 R24 agricultural tyres, with Garden Pro rubber available in the same size for growers managing both vines and well-kept lawns.

A three-cylinder engine provides plenty of torque for steep slopes, with constant rpm setpoints a standard feature to allow accurate

engine speed setting in and out of rows at the push of a button. Being under the 74hp mark means there is no adblue to worry about.

Two transmissions on offer provide either 16X16 synchromesh shifting, or seamless hydrostatic drive with three ranges. Hydro models feature a linked pedal and cruise control systems, meaning the drive pedals double up as throttles and the forward speed can be de-linked from the engine speed to allow high revs at low ground speed.

Four-wheel drive and diff-lock is standard, with chunky heavy duty front axles betraying the tractor’s agricultural roots and providing a small turning circle to suit tight headlands. Weights are standard on the front, easily removed in order to fit front linkage and PTO, or small trimmers with bespoke mounting brackets. Cab models include two mid-mounted spool valves and in-cab joystick; perfect for a front loader, or for lifting a finger weeder in and out of work.

Lift on the rear comes from a Cat 1 threepoint linkage, with quick attach hooks to make connecting to mounted implements easy. The lift capacity is a healthy 1250kg, plenty enough for a full sprayer, with two spools at the rear providing 33l/min of oil for sideshift flails or mounted forklifts.

A three-speed PTO (540/540E/1000) is capable of powering mowers, sprayers and the like – with an auto switch to link the PTO engagement to lift arm position, reducing the inputs needed on headland turns from the operator. A mid-mounted PTO shaft is standard, with aftermarket mid-mount mower decks available opening up the possibility to mow in-row and weed under-row at once.

A flat-floored, six-post cab provides a comfortable spot to spend a day, with air-conditioning and radio as standard, a choice of mechanical or air suspended seats, four worklights and ergonomically arranged controls. Opening rear and side windows allow plenty of fresh air, while a good aftermarket supply of carbon filters provide protection when spraying.

The complete Boomer range is available across the South and South East from Haynes Agricultural.

NEW SEPARATION TECHNOLOGY

Vogelsang is set to launch an even larger version of the XSplit screw press separator. The XSplit XS30-80 offers a throughput of up to 175 cubic metres per hour, making it the most powerful XSplit in the range.

“The new XS30-80 has been developed for larger farms and biogas operations to enable high volumes of slurry and digestate to be processed faster and more efficiently,” explained Vogelsang’s Andy Hayhurst.

The XS30-80 joins the existing range of XSplit separators which includes both fixed and trailer mounted models and the XSplit Compact.

“We now have an XSplit to fit all farm sizes. The Compact is firmly aimed at smaller farms and offers flexibility at an entry level price. The XSplit can be fixed or provided on a purpose-built trailer for contractors and farms with multiple sites and, with the addition of the XS30-80, we have a high output solution that will suit the largest UK farms,” said Mr Hayhurst.

The design of the XS30-80 features a modular, three-part sieve, making the new larger model easy to maintain because only the worn parts need to be replaced, rather than the whole separating unit.

Vogelsang’s VarioAdjust hydraulic adjustment system means the contact pressure can be easily adjusted during operation, enabling the operator to set the dry matter content more easily.

“The XSplit XS30-80 is the largest separator in this design and combines high performance with maintenance-friendly design. It therefore offers a powerful solution to users with very high volumes,” added Mr Hayhurst.

To complement the new separators, Vogelsang is also launching the newly designed LoadMaster pump. The lightweight, compact design features a new, smoother running pump that is ideal for transport vehicles.

Vogelsang is also extending its pump range with the VX high output rotary lobe pump. The VX has a 15,000 litres per minute capacity, making it ideal for self-propelled machines. The integrated injection system reliably protects the pump against foreign bodies and ensures a service life that is up to 2.5 times longer than usual.

ADDITIONAL MODEL FOR KUHN’S FOUR ROTOR RAKES

A 13.7m model has been added to Kuhn’s 10231 series of four rotor rakes, increasing the range to three machines, with working widths from 8.4m up to 14.7m.

The GA 14231 – with working widths from 9m to 13.7m – fills the gap between the smaller GA 13231, offering widths from 8.4m to 12.5m, and the larger GA 15231 – working from 9.5m to 14.7m. It builds on the popular features of the two existing machines, including using four hydraulically driven rotors from a single transmission to reduce daily greasing.

Rhodri Jenkins, Kuhn’s grassland product specialist, said the additional model increases Kuhn’s high-output four-rotor rake options.

“Our existing GA four-rotor rakes are popular with large farmers and contractors, but we had requests from some users who said the current models were too far apart in size and they required something in

the middle. The GA 14231 retains all the proven features from the existing rakes whilst offering additional versatility for working widths.”

Kuhn’s well-known and maintenance-free Masterdrive GIII gearbox, as fitted to all Kuhn 31 series single, twin, and four rotor rakes, includes a double reduction system

allowing larger gears to be used for improved power transfer.

Section control, introduced on the GA 10231 series in 2024, is also an option on the new model to preserve forage quality and avoid moving crop multiple times.

Production of the new GA 14231 is already underway. Prices start from £94,885.

WHAT’S NEW

The new Stocks Ag Turbo Jet 10 Hydraulic (HD) will be launched to the global market at Agritechnica November 2025. The Turbo Jet 10 HD provides users with maximum airflow for higher application rates at working widths from 10m up to 15m. It can also be run at faster forward speeds and can be set up to apply full-width, in bands or in rows as required with outlets either blanked-off or doubled up as necessary.

Renowned for airflow and output and built with industry-leading high-capacity electric fans, the current range of Stocks Turbo Jet’s excel at applying product at up to 10m. However, the appetite to work at wider working widths globally continues, be that with rolls, drills, cultivators, comb harrows etc. This has led Stocks Ag to develop an applicator with even more air flow to apply small to medium sized seeds such as oilseed rape, clover, grass, mustard, etc at high rates from 10m as well as micro and granular products at low to medium rates, all at up to 15m.

The Turbo Jet 10 HD’s hydraulic fan can be remotely mounted, making it simple to integrate with different host machines. Remote mounting also enables the fan to be sited away from dusty areas. On Cambridge rolls, the hydraulic unit can be fixed to the main drawbar with the hopper positioned above the rollers, reducing the hydraulic pipework required.

Product is metered by a rotary feed and delivered pneumatically, however instead of an electrically driven fan, the Turbo Jet 10 HD has a multi-blade, 1400cfm (cubic feet per metre), 4” hydraulic Crary fan. This fan offers a maximum operational rpm of 6,000 and a 4cc motor, which offers an output to match most drills. This allows the tractor’s oil flow requirement to be kept low (27L/min - 65L/min).

Testing has been carried out on a range of product including slug pellets, wheat, barley, OSR and Avadex. Working at 15m and applying a precise, low-rate of Avadex granules, it produced a Coefficient of Variation of +/- 5%.

In the field, customers have praised the seeders capabilities. A customer in Nottinghamshire commented:

“The Turbo Jet 10 Hydraulic has been a fantastic upgrade for us – it is well-built, simply designed and easy to clean. The hydraulic fan provides all the airflow we need – it was a no-brainer to move on from the twin electric fans, which had served us well.

"We primarily use the seeder for full reseeding across our 400 acres of grassland, supporting 1,000 continuously housed cattle. It also handles our cover crop, wild bird mixes and herbal ley establishment with ease. Even establishment is critical on a foragefocused farm – if the forage is wrong, it affects the milk we produce and the research we undertake,” said Joe Greenfield, Farm Manager, University of Nottingham, Centre for Dairy Science Innovation.

The Turbo Jet 10 HD has one metering segment per outlet allowing for precision metering and the standard range of 50mm diameter feed block kits are offered for common seed and granule sizes and

application rates. A new high-rate, 59mm diameter, large feed block kit has also been developed for the Turbo Jet 10 which will effectively feed product to the wider working widths, high application rates at standard widths or low weight, high volume products up to the 15m working width.

The applicator is supplied with either 10 or 20 outlets and with either a 240L or 400L hopper. Further accessories are available to ensure operators get the most from their machine.

Two different control systems can be specified; the Jackal or the i-CON, both offering fan speed and function monitoring. Isobus ready machines are also available and can be connected to the tractor’s in-cab terminal as required.

A Turbo Jet 10 Hydraulic with Jackal control, large seed block (typically used for grass seed and cover crops) and a 10 outlet spreader kit plus C rails retails at £8,718.

80 SPECIAL MACHINES FOR 80 YEARS OF JCB INNOVATION

JCB celebrated its 80th birthday on 23 October and to celebrate this major milestone in the company’s history, a total of 80 top-of-the-range machines will be produced, comprising two of JCB’s most iconic machines – backhoeloaders and Loadall telescopic handlers.

The forty 4CX Pro Dual Drive backhoe loaders and forty 542-70 Agripro Loadalls will come in satin black with chrome decals and

JCB yellow highlights; they also feature attributes such as 80th edition embroidered seats, carpets, decals and plaques. The machines are now beginning to make their way down the production lines at JCB’s World Headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire.

A JCB spokesperson said: “80 years is a significant milestone, and we are delighted to celebrate it with the production of 80 limited edition machines.”

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLAAS 2025 GRADUATES

This autumn has seen 17 apprentices complete their Claas UK Apprenticeship and start their careers as fully qualified Claas service engineers. The graduation ceremony also saw the first students from dealerships in England and Ireland graduate from the in-house apprenticeship programme launched in 2022 and based in the Claas Academy at Saxham.

Claas UK welcomed 13 of the 17 graduates along with their family members and dealership representatives to Saxham for their graduation ceremony.

Of those receiving their certificates, 10 from dealerships in Scotland and Ireland were studying at SRUC Barony and awarded

a IMI Level 3 Diploma. The remaining seven graduates from the in-house Claas Academy Apprenticeship Programme were awarded a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

The Graduation ceremony is just the start of their careers. Working with their respective dealerships, the newly qualified

engineers will have access to ongoing training and development to further enhance their skills, and the opportunity to move into more specialised Master Mechanic or higher level Master Technician roles, or move into management positions within their dealerships or within Claas UK.

NEW SIMPLE AND HYGIENIC PVC LIVESTOCK WALL PANEL

Adding to its range of high-quality agricultural sheeting and rooflight products, Brett Martin has launched HoardBoard, a durable, hygienic and easy to install PVC wall panel product designed for wall lining or partitioning for pig buildings and other livestock sheds.

The durable 35mm Twinwall HoardBoard panels are impact, moisture and mould resistant and will not corrode. HoardBoard has been designed to make thorough cleaning and disinfection quick and easy with a smooth, chemical resistant surface that can be cleaned with a high-power pressure washer.

HoardBoard is also fast and simple to install. The panels are designed with click panel connection at each side of the panel meaning the sheets fit securely together and can be bonded or point fixed to the wall. ADVANCED NEW GENERATION TRAILED SPRAYER RANGE

Kuhn Farm Machinery has revealed the Karan high-capacity trailed sprayer range aimed at farmers and contractors requiring high daily spraying outputs and innovative technology to improve application accuracy.

Initially available as the mid-range Power model featuring steel and aluminium boom width options from 24m to 39m, the Karan range will extend to basic and high-end models, offering boom widths from 18m to 45m, and tank capacities of 4,500, 5,200, 6,000 and 8,000 litres. The Karan offers choice and versatility, with configurations compatible with the simplest operations

through to the most advanced requirements.

Edd Fanshawe, Kuhn’s arable product specialist, said: “The new Karan has been four years in development, with extensive field testing, to ensure we’re bringing a product to users that will compete at the high-capacity end of the trailed sprayer market. The design of the machine is 99% new and is specifically aimed at maximising spraying time and accuracy.”

Central to the new range of Karan trailed sprayers is Kuhn’s new Eagle1 automatic contour control system – an advanced technology package that uses ultrasonic sensors to constantly monitor and adjust

boom position in relation to the spray target. This highly adaptable system adjusts to varying crop height or terrain (from a height of 30cm), ensuring optimum distances are always maintained. The Eagle system significantly reduces the manual input required by the operator and, alongside a premium suspension design, allows precision spraying at speeds of up to 25kph. Eagle’s capabilities also integrate with other Kuhn innovations onto the Karan sprayer, including 25cm nozzle spacing and the I-Spray spot application technology.

The Autoset solution system enables tank filling at 900 litres/minute and spraying at

up to 500 litres/minute, whilst rapid and thorough main tank cleaning is made possible by twin 360 degree rotating nozzles. A newly developed induction hopper is included as standard on the Karan, offering a rapid intake capacity of up to 220 litres/minute. This system can be enhanced with a closed transfer system, allowing agrochemicals to be inducted without any operator contact. Existing Manuset, or automated Diluset, provide further control options.

Precision spraying capability on Karan sprayers is achieved through incorporation of Kuhn’s established Autospray PWM (pulse width modulation) technology. This system, which utilises continuous highpressure circulation, allows features such as independent nozzle control and maintains consistent droplet size across varying operating speeds. The Autospray precision application system is complemented by XEA3 aluminium booms offering 50cm or 25cm nozzle spacings.

Ease of handling and manoeuvrability were key considerations in the development of the Karan, with an unladen weight of 5,690kg and a compact overall length of 5m on the 5200 and 6000 models. With a steering axle angle

of up to 28 degrees and a range of VF tyres –soil compaction and crop damage are kept to a minimum.

An integrated winch allowing pump removal in just 15 minutes, and a removable sump and tank roof providing access to internal components without entering the tank, eases routine maintenance.

A centred vertical hydraulic stand makes hitching of the Karan a simple operation,

and there is an optional hydraulic pump drive that offers additional coupling and driving benefits. Control systems have been designed to provide all essential information as clearly and intuitively as possible, with bespoke screen displays for use in-cab or on the machine.

The Karan will be on display at LAMMA and a machine will be available in the UK for demonstrations during spring 2026.

CEMOS AUTO KNIFE CONDITION AS A WORLD FIRST FOR CLAAS FORAGE HARVESTERS

Claas is introducing the new Cemos Auto Knife Condition as a world first in the Jaguar 900 as the first productionready operator assistance system for monitoring the wear condition of the knives in the forage harvester. In addition, the new Nutrimeter is now also available for the Jaguar 900 series. At the same time, Green Eye packages for the Jaguar 900 and Jaguar 800 bundle equipment for maximum comfort, top performance and minimum wear at attractive prices. Other new features include an adapter for Rovio maize pickers and a new tyre pressure control system for the steering axle.

GRINDING KNIVES ON DEMAND

Claas is introducing a new assistance system for the Jaguar 900 and 900 Terra Trac forage harvester series. Cemos Auto Knife Condition is the first productionready operator assistance system for forage harvesters that monitors the wear condition of the knives on the chopping cylinder, enabling on-demand grinding for

maximum cutting quality at all times with optimised wear and fuel consumption. The system works with two reluctance sensors that detect the knife geometry across the entire knife width using a static magnetic field. The sensors are located above the crop channel and therefore outside the crop flow. In the field, the operator uses the Cebis terminal in the cab to set the desired degree of sharpening and the grinding strategy. The system then informs the operator via Cebis as soon as the knives should be ground. In this way, grinding is no longer carried out at fixed intervals, but when it is actually necessaryi.e. earlier in abrasive harvesting conditions and later in normal harvesting conditions with low wear. Cutting and forage quality as well as efficiency remain permanently high, while the service life of the knives is significantly improved. The system also enables area-specific documentation of knife wear in Claas connect. This allows contractors to document wear costs to their customers and improve the upstream process chain in a targeted manner.

GREEN EYE PACKAGES COMBINE MAXIMUM COMFORT WITH OPTIMISED PERFORMANCE

For model year 2026, Claas is offering model series-specific Green Eye equipment packages with attractive price benefits for the Jaguar 900 and Jaguar 800 model series. Green Eye includes full cab equipment in both model series as well as a crop flow equipped with Premium Line wear parts with optimised service life –with a five-year and 3,000 hour warranty.

Exclusively for the Jaguar 900, the Green Eye package also includes the innovative V-Flex chopping cylinder for maximum cutting length variability and a longer service life, as well as the variable, hydrostat front attachment drive. In addition, the two-stage front attachment drive can be ordered as an option to further increase performance in grass applications in conjunction with the Pick Up.

Machines with Green Eye equipment can be recognised externally by the distinctive stickers on both side panels and a sticker on the cab door.

ISOBUS-COMPATIBLE NUTRIMETER

Following its introduction on the new Jaguar 1000, the latest generation of the NIR sensor Nutrimeter is now also available for the Jaguar 900 and Jaguar 800. The precise real-time determination of the dry matter content allows for part-area accurate yield recording and yield mapping, as well as automatic chop length adjustment. The goal: Always the best forage quality regardless of the dry matter content and optimum compaction of the silage in the silo.

In addition to dry matter content, the Nutrimeter also records ingredients such as starch, crude protein, crude fibre and sugar content. The mobile use of the NIR sensor as an Isobus device enables easy conversion from machine to machine. The data collected by the Nutrimeter is stored, analysed and documented together with the machine data from the Jaguar in Claas connect. From 2026, live yield mapping on the Cemis 1200 will also be possible based on the Nutrimeter data.

CLAAS CONNECT PACKAGES

In order to offer digital solutions in Claas connect in an even more customer-centred way, they are now bundled into three packages. The basic Claas connect package includes a Machine connect licence for the documentation, evaluation and comparison of machine data and the exchange of work orders between the farm and the machine. There are two Claas connect Professional packages available. The first includes a steering system and the GPS Pilot Cemis 1200 terminal for Precision Farming applications. The second more comprehensive Claas connect Professional package also includes the Nutrimeter for NIR-based determination of dry matter, crude fibre and crude ash as well as ingredients such as starch (in the maize harvest) and crude protein, and dry matter-dependent chop length control for the Jaguar 900.

The chop quality analysis in Claas connect can be used independently of the three Claas connect packages. Simply use your smartphone to photograph the chopped material on the blue pad supplied and send the photos to the Claas connect cloud.

AI-supported software quickly determines the grain processing score (CSPS/Corn Silage Processing Score) and sends the value back to the smartphone. This ensures that the corncracker's setting is always optimised immediately during harvesting.

ROVIO ADAPTER

Another new addition to the range for the Jaguar 900, 900 Terra Trac and 800 is an adapter for Rovio maize pickers from Claas, which impresses with its optimised crop flow, impressive throughput capacity and high reliability when harvesting ground ear maize. Attachment to the Jaguar is simple thanks

to the integrated electrics-hydraulics supply package using the multi-coupler with central locking device and an automatic quick release coupler for mechanical power transmission. The integrated lateral levelling guarantees optimum ground contour following thanks to Auto Contour. Power distribution to the maize picker is handled by robust spur gearboxes, with power transmission to the conveyor roller with a powerful 80-HD chain drive.

NEW TYRE PRESSURE CONTROL

A new tyre pressure control system for the steering axle will be available for the Jaguar 900 and 900 Terra Trac from product year 2026. This works with a three-line system and thus enables fast inflation times with maximum reliability. As a result, the Jaguar 900 and 900 Terra Trac are even gentler on the ground and have better traction in both normal and difficult conditions of use.

OPTIMISED BALING SOLUTION

Silotite, a leader in forage film solutions, is excited to launch a new net replacement film that promises to reduce downtime.

At Agritechnica 2025, Silotite will launch its latest innovation, Baletite 3,000m, a longer-length baler film designed to improve efficiency for large-scale contractors.

With a 50% longer film length (3,000 metres per roll) compared to standard Baletite, Bart Geeraert, Silotite’s commercial director, explained that operators will benefit from spending more time in the field without returning to restock reels, reducing downtime by up to 50%.

With improved holding force compared to net wrap, Mr Geeraert said Film&Film improves bale density and prevents slumping

in long-term storage. Minimising expansion prevents air from re-entering the bale and facilitates better ensiling conditions.

being celebrated in 2025, visitors are being encouraged to purchase discounted tickets before the special offer expires at the end of October.

The event promises to be one of the best displays of vintage tractors, stationary engines, commercial vehicles and trade stands found in the UK.

CATERPILLARS OLD AND NEW TO CATCH THE EYE

The show will host the largest-ever gathering of Caterpillar machines seen in the UK, with 113 exhibits spanning a century of tracklayer development, from early Holt crawlers of the 1910s to modern-day giants. Among the headline attractions will

be the Caterpillar D10, brought by Ash Croft on behalf of Cat Plant. At up to 77 tonnes, the D10 is one of the largest dozers in the company’s range, designed for quarrying and coal mining and sure to be a showground showstopper.

While the D10 commands attention, many enthusiasts will be drawn to the historic machines that tell Caterpillar’s story: Highlights include:

• The Holt 75, built in the 1910s and described as the oldest surviving example in the UK

• The Caterpillar 60 – first introduced in 1925, with a fully restored 1929 example owned by Tom Balls.

• Caterpillar’s RD8, a diesel-powered crawler from the 1930s used on major construction projects and in military service during the Second World War. Tom Ball, whose family business J C Balls & Sons is sponsoring the Caterpillar class, said: “We’ve got collectors coming from all over. To have more than a hundred Caterpillars in one place is something that’s never been done before in this country. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime sight.”

Simon Eccleston, CEO of the Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society (NNAS), which organises the show, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to mark the centenary of Caterpillar at our show. These machines are symbols of innovation, persistence, engineering and community, and it’s a privilege to bring together owners, restorers and admirers under one roof.”

LANDMARK ANNIVERSARIES

Alongside the Caterpillar celebration, the 2025 show will spotlight several other landmark anniversaries including 80 years of the Fordson Major E27N and Field Marshall Series One, 60 years of Zetor imports into England sponsored by Chantry Agricultural Engineers, 60 years of Cummins engines, and a major tribute to Gardner Engines sponsored by Stamford Shepherd Huts.

There will also be celebrations for the Ford D Series lorry, launched 60 years ago, and for Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies.

Heritage potato implements, handling equipment and a wide range of club displays will add further depth to the show.

PERSONAL STORIES

Among the personal stories on display is one particularly touching restoration.

“Old Sodbuster”, a 1948 Fordson Major E27N owned by Kate Hodgson from North Yorkshire, was the first tractor restored by her grandfather Ray Worley nearly 40 years ago.

Decades after he sold it, Kate rediscovered the same machine for sale, still bearing his hand-painted nickname. “It felt spooky but also meant to be,” she said. “Restoring it with my partner Joshua has been a real labour of love, and showing it at Newark during the Fordson’s 80th anniversary feels like the perfect tribute.”

Another standout is Nottinghamshire’s Paul Hird with his Series One Field Marshall

– one of the earliest survivors of its kind. Bought on a whim at auction, Paul later discovered its history through another enthusiast at Newark. “I like originality,” he said. “Something that’s lived a life and carries its modifications tells a story – that’s what I look for when I’m judging other exhibitors’ machines too.”

The stationary engine section will once again offer a working display of the power sources that once drove rural life, with many engines in full running condition throughout the weekend.

Beyond the exhibits, the showground becomes a marketplace for collectors and restorers, with hundreds of traders offering parts, tools, books and memorabilia, as well as expert advice for ongoing projects.
