WHAT’S USED

SIMPLE MOWERS, SIMPLE CHECKS

Kuhn introduced its rear mounted FC313 mower conditioners nearly 25 years ago, these popular models being superseded by the still current FC314 models in 2016. Popular with farm users, examples of both generations of these 3.10m/10ft mowers are readily available on the used market.

FC 313D LIFT-CONTROL

Year: 2015

Condition: Good

Comment: Dealer prepared examples showing light use will be priced accordingly, with condition taking priority over age. Steel and nylon tine variant fetch similar money. Pay at least 25% less for a private buy.

Price point: Around £6,500 to £7,500. Poor entry level mowers from £2,800.

FC 314D LIFT-CONTROL KUHN

Year: 2023

Condition: Ex-demo

Comment: Timing is everything when it comes to buying ex-demo kit. Wait until the mowers are needed and you can pay near retail prices for exdemo kit. Always ask for a spare set of blades.

Price point: £16,750.

FC 313D LIFT-CONTROL

Year: 2017

Condition: Excellent

Comment: Late FC 313 and early FC 314 mowers can fetch similar money if the older version is in good order. FC 314 a better buy if you are running a more powerful tractor. Front mount equivalent will carry a premium of up to 20%.

Price point: Up to £8,500.

Year: 2018

Condition: Above average

Comment: Dealer prepared. Light use. New blades. As with FC 313 models, price will reflect condition, not age. Typical prices from £7,000 but good examples can easily retail for double that.

Price point: £12,650

Up until 2012, Kuhn offered just a nylon V-shaped tine conditioner on the FC 313. Still a popular choice, the nylon tines last well but check they are not curved at the tips. The conditioner has two-speeds, swapping between them taking time as it is achieved by swapping to different pulleys on the drive.

Although it is the FC313 and FC314 models that we look at here, it follows that the same broad brush buying pointers will apply equally to narrower 2.40m and 2.80m working width models in the nominal ‘103 and 104’ mower series. This will include front mount models. All variants share essentially the same ‘100 Series’ cutter bar with six, seven or eight discs.

The FC3125 and current FC3115 are not covered specifically here, these heavier-duty models having a different Optidisc Elite bed. When originally launched in around 2000, the FC313 was only offered with a flexible V-shaped white nylon finger conditioner.

From 2012, the FC313D variant was introduced, this having a pivoting steel finger conditioner. In brief, the latter will add around 90kg to the weight of the mower. As a sweeping generalisation, steel finger conditioners tend to be favoured by those mowing heavier crops.

If you are after a FC model with a roller conditioner, this was an option on the narrower working width FC243/FC244 and FC283/ FC284 models. These have an R added to the model number.

An R spec model will be around 30kg to 50kg heavier than the equivalent finger conditioner models.

WHAT’S USED

Metal tine conditioners are tough and will cope well with heavy swaths. Simple adjustments allow the levelling of conditioning and spread to be set to suit conditions. Many ‘set and forget’, so it can pay to see if the related fasteners are seized.

All rear mount 103 and 104 series mowers fold horizontally to the rear of the tractor. The heavier duty FC3115 rear mount mower, launched in around 2020, folds vertically. Vertical fold does make the mower easier to handle in transport and when accessing fields from a narrow lane. At present, FC3115 mowers will be a less likely used find.

FC313 V FC314

There will be no significant differences between a ‘103’ and ‘104’ model performance

The blade carrier is shaped to both aid crop flow and offer protection to the blade fastener. If new blades are not fitted or reversed to a straight and ‘sharp’ edge, have them renewed. Kuhn offers a choice of lower skid plate. If the mower shows signs of having worked over stony ground, a raised set of plates may be fitted, so check.

wise as they share the same deck design. FC313 mowers would still have been available new in 2017, with late used examples selling for similar money to early FC314 mowers if in the same condition. The later models do have several developments to include:

• Updated styling, with rounded headstock panel and new curved end support arm.

• FC314 suspension is more effective in the rear fold position with a revised and stronger main frame to cope with higher transport speeds.

• Easier to set up, with no need to adjust tractor linkage arms to ensure machine is level or to compensate for the mowers weight.

• Automatic medium 45/50 mm cut height setting when switching into the working position, with no need to adjust the top link.

• Improved machine balance in headland turns with higher lift clearance.

How a mower is stored can play a big part in its presentation. If left out in all weathers and the deck has sunk into the ground, it will suffer. Pictured unit surrounded by dry leaves, with just light surface rust. Take time looking over the deck and check for signs of oil weeping from under the blade carriers and the drive gearbox seal. If the paint on the gearbox is a different colour to the rest of the mower it could be a sign that it has overheated. If possible, check the oil dipstick on FC 313 mowers and look at the colour of the oil in the sight glass of the FC 314 models. Clean and bright is healthy.

A trend to higher powered tractors can see mowers based on designs developed several years ago, regardless of make or model, ‘over worked’. Kuhn list the minimum power

requirements for the FC313/FC314 at around 70hp at the pto.

A further point is transport speeds. When Kuhn developed the FC313 mower series, tractor speeds would typically not exceed 25mph/40kph. The ‘beefed up’ frame of the FC314 was not carried out to solve work related problems but to help counter the stresses imposed on the mower at much high transport speeds.

As a used buyer, take your time to think through how the mower is going to be used and how you will expect it to operate when

you are under pressure. A low cost, past its best worn mower may well be fine mowing a small area for hay but not for a hungry forage harvest team.

FC 313 and FC 314 models, like all 103 and 104 series mowers, have the same design of ‘100’ series deck, this wellproven design lasting well. Do still check, worn bearing seals may allow oil to leak out. As there is not a lot in the deck, even a gradual loss can lead to lubrication problems if not resolved. The blade carrier Protectadrive shaft (right) has a weakened section cast in to help protect the deck if the mower hits something. The part is easy to renew should it fail.

WHAT’S USED

Kuhn offer both bolt-on and Fast-Fit systems. Latter makes swapping to a fresh set of blades quick and easy.

Take time looking over the headstock, checking the hoses, cables and breakback and suspension pressure gauges. If there is no pressure showing, find out why. The correct pressure will be listed in the owner’s manual.

Look around the pivot points for fatigue cracks, the suspension system on FC 313 models not having been designed to cope with fast transport speeds. If possible, hitch the mower to a tractor and work the linkage up and down. Wear in the pivots can be resolved by replacing the relevant pins and bushes.

WHAT’S TESTED

There is no evidence of the drain plug of the 90-degree gearbox on this mower having been removed, a dipstick check being frustrated by the need for a spanner. This ‘box is easy to check, unlike the one that drives the deck. If the paint on a gearbox has gone ‘pink’ it could suggest overheating. If possible, run the mower up and listen for rumbles and rattles. A sound mower should run smoothly.

A further point is looking after your used buy. As equipment ages, it needs more attention, with even a ‘simple’ mounted mower conditioner needing to have fresh oil in the gearbox and deck, weeping seals replaced and worn skid plates renewed. Save a few pounds on a mower that you know will need a bit of work and you could end up paying more than

sourcing a less worn buy.

SUMMARY

When it comes to any item of used equipment, there will always be a marked difference between a cheap buy and a good buy. There will be a good number of used FC313 and FC314 mowers available, with

entry level prices for a decent model from a tempting £4,000. Double that, and you should have access to a later FC314 in good order. If buying from a dealer, have a spare set of blades included in the deal. Money saved on a used buy is no good if you then waste it by burning more fuel than you need to.

Suspension and break-back accumulators can last for years and never need attention, but that is not the same as saying they never fail. If the headstock mounted pressures gauges have a low reading, the system could need a check. Look around this area for damage and check the related hoses are in good condition.

It is good practice to slacken the conditioner drive belts in storage, but few will bother. If you want to check the conditioner bearings, you can slacken drive to the belts to allow the rotor to be turned. Pictured belts (right) sitting level with the pulley suggests they are in good shape.

Kuhn launched the 3.10m FC 3115 D in 2020. A key development was that this model has 126˚ hydraulic vertical folding. This makes the system more compact in transport and reduces the load on the tractor and mower. The mower features the proven Lift-Control suspension system, with nonstop safety breakaway, but has a heavier duty maintenance-free OptiDisc cutter bar with Fast-Fit quick release blades. These models will have various options, the folded unit (right) having the latest guarding and optional 360kg counterweight.

WHAT’S USED

KEY CHECK POINTS

• Overall condition: If a mower looks good, the chances are the core elements will be sound.

• Hitch it up: Mount the mower and fold it in and out. Raise and lower the linkages to give the mower a shake. This should help you spot worn pivot points. The headstock pivot works hard and needs to be well-greased.

• Run it up: When the mower is running, you may be able to pick up noises from a worn bearing.

• Look for failed bearing seals: Oil attracts dust. Check around the discs. Look for twine wound around the base of the discs.

• Low oil in deck drive gearbox: Often overlooked, the small quantity of oil in all the gearboxes does need to be changed once a year and the level checked periodically. The deck drive gearbox level is often overlooked. A failed seal in this gearbox can see all oil lost and with it the ‘box quickly ruined. Later 314 models have level sight glass to aid checking, with a screwed in dipstick on earlier models.

Dave Cox of P A Turney, Middleton Stoney, Oxfordshire, suggests FC313 and FC314 mowers are sound ‘farmer’ mowers that are unlikely to give trouble if basic maintenance is taken care off. Where users have run into problems it is typically when a basic check has been overlooked, such as low oil in the deck drive gearbox. “It is not unusual to find a mower has been fitted with the blades the wrong way up. It is easily done when the user is in a hurry.”

• Overheating gearboxes: Related to the above, look for signs of the gearboxes overheating. They will get too hot to touch in normal work, but if the red paint has changed to a lighter shade, it suggests overheating. Typically caused by low oil.

• Rubber doughnut coupling: This was added to the driveline of later 314 mowers and can fail as it ages. Renewal will save a breakdown.

• Conditioner bearings: It is easy to pick up wear in the conditioner bearings if you can slacken or even better remove the drive belts and turn the rotor by hand. As this may be difficult to carry out, budget to renew the bearings on a non-dealer prepared older buy.

• Blades: Reversible blades can be fitted the wrong way up. Easy to do when changing them in a hurry. On a used buy, ensure decent blades are fitted. In work, the difference between new and worn blades can be noticeable. Worn blades will increase fuel consumption and can noticeably reduce mowing speeds.

• Ram seals: A mower that has not had a clean can help identify oil leaks. The seals on the folding rams are not typically a problem but they do wear over time. Look for rust on the ram. A mower stored outside can suffer.

• Accident damage: Although obvious dings and dents will be easy to spot, take time to check the whole mower.

• Guard fabric: The fabric used on these mowers can last really well but mowers stored outside can see the material deteriorate. If there are tears or areas that have worn through it is important to repair them. If left they will ‘spread’.

• Hoses and lighting electrics: Easy to miss snagged hoses and lighting harness. Check everything once hooked up.

Just to say thank you for everyone’s support for my Bodle Street Green Charity ‘Drive It Day’ event on Sunday 6 April. We had over 400 vehicles of all ages including 64 tractors and thanks to my marshals Bryn and Trevor and so many helpers we got you all in or down the road on this very tight site.

Colin Anton did an excellent job with the 12 mile tractor road run and we had all cleared up and in doors by 6.30pm. By the looks of it we have raised £3,000 + from the day in aid of the Village Hall and Prostate Cancer UK.

It’s only 10am on Sunday 6 April in the beautiful rolling hills of Bodle Street Green, there would be another 250 vehicles come and go by the end of the day

FINAL ROGER DESBOROUGH COLLECTION SALE

Saturday 21 June sees possibly the most important private tractor sale of the year take place in Suffolk, when the final late Roger Desborough Collection Sale takes place.

Roger was a larger than life strong willed character one has to say, his family were large farmers and steam ploughing contractors and a pair of their engines do still exist today (1917 Fowler AA7 Nos. 15236/7).

You could say that Roger made it from an early age as an entrepreneur and took no prisoners along the way. He even was a fisherman and loved the sea and was very practical in whatever he did. He became interested in tractor preservation nearly 30 years ago now and built up an impressive collection of tractors, and loved veterans in particular.

He became part of the rally preservation scene and showed his tractors at the better shows in East Anglia and Yorkshire and even had his own show early season at the Norfolk

Showground. He worked very, very hard on it, but even though it had all the right ingredients was never a commercial success unfortunately, which was such a pity. Sadly ill health took hold, but thanks to the dedication of his wife Fran who worked tirelessly for her husband made him as comfortable as possible in those last years of his life, which could have not been easy for her.

AMAZING AUCTIONEER

While South East Farmer magazine featured an obituary to John Butler last issue I would like to add my own thoughts. He was without doubt the South East’s top fruit and machinery auctioneer since the late 1960-20s. John (85) died on 3 February 2025 and he had been ill for some time. I worked with him particularly at the Kent County Show. John was the parade ring co-ordinator commentator as well as the shire and heavy horse commentator where as I was the vintage machinery commentator for 50 + years.

However it was the saleground I first came to know him in the 1970s when he came to prominence with Lambert and Symes, later Lambert and Foster of Paddock Wood. He got every last farthing out of every lot he sold and became most respected in what he did and particularly the way he conducted himself. He might have ruffled a few feathers along the way, but he had a charm that won everyone

around. Being 6ft 3in he stood above everyone else and at one time he always wore an immaculate black suit to conduct the sales. As time went on he got to know me and I was used as a confident to the values of machinery that he had coming up.

John was a keen tennis fan and loved Wimbledon, but he was also a fine trombonist and talented acoustic guitarist and he played in various folk clubs which lead to him meet John Howell and Jo Day as vocalist and they performed as Wealden Folk. They became very well known all over the South East and I even booked them to play in August 1996 at Whitebreads Hop Farm for two coach loads of visiting American tractor and engine enthusiasts.

On Thursday 20 March at St Michael and All Angels Church, Marden John’s local church the Rev Nicky Harvey conducted a superb service with the church crammed to the rafters of this 12th century building. After the service the wake was held at

On Sunday 30 March the amazing farmer/contractor Ralph Stevens (83) from Horsmonden, Kent passed away.

Whatever Ralph did, he did it with great enthusiasm and was a great Caterpillar enthusiast and is one of the last people to use big venerable D8 Cats for commercial work in the South East as well as his many D2s, D6D, 320 and D4. If he broke down he always got another out the shed and used that. For many years he took part in the National Ploughing Championship in the crawler class, he was never the winner and was more down the back in the results than up the front, but it was always good to see him take part and enjoy the day with him.

He was a member of the Kent Agricultural Show committee for years and his traffic control arrangements were always interesting to say the least in the heady days of the Kent County Show. He built the ill fated tractor pulling course that was placed on site here at Detling, which just did not take off unfortunately. He was certainly a fun person to be with and will be sadly missed by all. We send condolences to his family at this time.

John was a larger than life character and at onetime sold more Fergusons and Massey Fergusons that anyone else in the South East

the excellent Marden Sports Club. Here pictures of John and his habits were shown on the large screen while the 100 plus people chatted fastidiously about his life and local gossip and enjoyed the unexpected 19 degrees of sunshine of this March day in the modern facilities.

BRATTLE FARM MUSEUM SALE

Brattle Farm, Staplehurst, Kent, was bought by the Thompson family in 1950 for £10,000.

The late Brian Thompson soon took over the running of the farm from his father and over the years collected numerous farming bygones including tractors, stationary engines and horse drawn equipment, cars and commercial vehicles and created a farming museum.

In 1985 a major fire destroyed much of the collection and the sheds; unfortunately the place was never quite the same. However the excellent working event on the farm carried on for some years and Brian still collected items especially locally used or manufactured from Weeks and Drake & Fletcher of Maidstone, Kent.

Brian sadly died some 10 years ago now leaving the farm and the museum to his sons Steven and William. Due to a change of use regarding the farmyard it has been decided Hobbs Parker will auction most of the contents of the Brattle Farm Museum on Saturday June 14.

The star lot will be the very rare 1916 Weeks-Dungey Simplex tractor one of two of this type to exist today. It was designed by a local Kent farmer Mr Dungey who got the famous firm of Weeks, Perseverance Works, Maidstone to build it. There are five known Weeks-Dungey tractors in existence today the other three are of the later Simplex design, which is based on an American Ideal tractor, adapted by Dungey for hop garden and orchard use that were so prevalent in this part of Kent. The tractor has been rallied since the 1970s and does run, but could do with going through again and will certainly want a paint refresh. All the same this is a very rare opportunity to purchase this very rare machine that’s on a good set of rubbers.

The 1919 International Junior 8-16 has a unique history being the first combustion engine vehicle used on Sark, in the Channel Islands, where cars are banned. Towards the end of its working life, it was used to generate electricity until WW2, when the invading German troops put a stop to it. Many years later the remaining parts were brought to England and restored by Brian Thompson and his helpers.

restored by Brian and runs, but needs a refresh and was featured on the second cover of Tractor & Machinery in 1994. The picture was taken at the Kent County Show in the 1980s. Brian was a regular supporter at this show for many decades.

There are plenty of other interesting tractors of all ages in the sale including an English Austin, International 10-20, Case LA, Fiat 25c crawler, two Bristol 10 crawlers, Gunsmith, Trusty. There is also the famous Ford T tractor conversion by Eros and a Westbrook tractor mower based on a Bullnose Morris, made by WF Colebrooke from Rye, East Sussex.

When we visited recently the lots were crammed into several small sheds making photography and identification very difficult, but by the auction punters will have clear access to view the lots.

A full dispersal sale of the Brian Thompson collection will be going under the hammer at Brattle Farm Agricultural Museum, Five Oak Lane, Staplehurst, in June. The auction will be conducted by Hobbs Parker Auctioneers LLP and will be both live and online with Marteye.ie

COUNTY 1184TW MAKES BIG BUCKS

On Tuesday, 11 March, Ashley Walker held its monthly collective sale at the garden centre at Lower Withington, Cheshire, just a short distance from the company’s HQ.

Some 1633 lots were offered, with 54 tractors from basically three collectors. The highlight had to be the 1981 County 1184TW which had come from Haydock, sadly the owner is now in a nursing home. It looked dusty and ran, but the log book could not be found and it sold here for a good £42,000 grade 4.

The other four lots from this collector also sold well with the 1998 New Holland 8260 R518PCK with 5,227 hours, £18,000. It was followed by a 1975 David Brown 1210 with loader an older restoration which raised £4,600 grade 4. Looking good was the grade 5 1959 International B250 515ATD, raising £3,500. As for the grade 4 1940 Fordson Standard N with enclosed pattern year tyres, it went on to sell for a good £2,000.

There were plenty of David Browns offered and their prices held up well at this sale and in some cases above average prices. As for the Fords the very well restored Barth K140 Mk4 trencher based on a Ford Force 5000, which has been stored for some time, but

still looked spectacular sold for a very good £22,000. All in all a very good sale for the auctioneers, who have a strong track record through the decades in their home area.

THREE FRONT-MOUNTED DISCO SERIES

The new Claas front mowers feature striking grey protective covers, perfectly matching the optics of the broad range of rear and large-scale mowers. Claas has adapted the familiar double roller drive with scissor gearbox from the Disco 9700 RC Auto Swather biomass mower for use on the Disco FRC models with roller conditioner. This performance boost ensures a higher throughput in extremely leafy crops.

Claas offers a front mower to suit all requirements across the three series in the latest range – from the Disco 3150F compact lightweight without conditioner to the Disco F Profil all-rounder with trailed

mower bed without conditioner, with tine or roller conditioner and with two-spring or hydraulic Active Float suspension, right up to the Disco Move with integrated Active Float suspension and selfregulating hydraulic height control that works independently of the tractor.

All Claas Disco front mowers can be combined with a wide range of Disco side mowers and large-scale mowers – from the simple frontrear combination with side hitching and centre of gravity suspension to the powerful biomass mower with conditioner and swath grouping. With the ‘18 to 12’ strategy with combined wide spreading and swath grouping by the Auto Swather cross conveyors, an 18m mowing width can be consolidated into 12m for the Liner four-rotor swather following on behind. INNOVATIVE AND DURABLE

The current Claas Disco product range, comprising almost 40 different models with working widths from 2.20m to 10.70m, is the result of unrivalled, decades-long experience in mower development and production – as well as the experiences of 250,000 customers operating in very wide-ranging conditions.

This year the extraordinarily successful Vervaet Hydro Trike self-propelled slurry applicator celebrates its 35th anniversary. To mark the occasion, new machines supplied during 2025 feature special commemorative decals as well as an updated livery.

The Hydro Trike was initially developed on the continent in response to sudden demand following Dutch government legislation which made it mandatory to inject slurry. Extensive prototype testing during 1990 was followed by production in 1991.

The Hydro Trike concept matched highoutput with low ground pressure, using three flotation tyres to spread its weight evenly and provide a tight turning circle. It quickly became popular, and has now been the continental market-leader for well over two decades with well over 1000 made in total.

The Hydro Trike has been constantly updated since its introduction, and today’s range includes three-wheel and five-wheel

models with tank capacities of 16m3 and 20m3 respectively. Solid manure spreading bodies can also be fitted.

Parts are held in stock for all machines going right back to the beginning, meaning older machines can still be backed-up. This is demonstrated by multiple older Hydro Trikes, each with nearly 30,000 hours on the clock, still in operation on the continent. Although arguably too advanced for the UK market when first developed, more recently sales have increased dramatically in the UK, and there is now a steadily growing healthy population. With UK importer J Riley Beet Harvesters (UK) Ltd able to draw on a large pool of quality used machines, as well as factory-overhauled examples, there is something available to

suit all workloads and budgets.

Whilst the Hydro Trike suited some users, Vervaet responded to demand from the UK for a four-wheel machine by developing the Quad 550 in 2021. Another success story, the first two machines off the production line were delivered to British customers in spring 2022 with many more following, and today the Quad is the most popular four-wheel self-propelled slurry applicator in the UK.

The standard Quad has a 22m3 tank, 550hp engine, hydro-mechanical transmission and mechanical axles, but for maximum capacity there is also the option of the Quad XL. New machines for 2025 are fitted with the latest Claas X11 cab, as introduced recently on the Vervaet Q-616 beet harvester.

EASE OF REFUELLING HAILED AS HYDROGEN LOADALL GOES ON TEST

Leading contractor BAM Construction has hailed the simplicity of the refuelling process of JCB’s hydrogen powered Loadall telescopic handler after testing the machine on a major Midlands regeneration project.

The company has been trialling the first JCB 540-180H Loadall on the Tea Factory regeneration project in Digbeth, Birmingham.

Powered by a hydrogen combustion engine developed by JCB at its plant in Derbyshire, the machine offers a zero-carbon emission driveline, that offers the same power and torque characteristics as the conventional diesel-powered model.

Colin Evison, BAM’s Innovation Technical Lead, said: “We’re starting to explore the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel. It was important to get the hydrogen fuel machine on a real construction site. We’ve seen it in test environments, and we know that

technically it does work, but putting it to the test on a real site makes a real difference.

“We’ve noticed no difference in the way the machine operates. We have to refuel the machine in a different way, but it’s a simple and straightforward process.”

JCB has been delivering hydrogen to the site in a refuelling trailer, that simply connects to the Loadall and refuels at the touch of a button.

Maggie Hall, BAM’s Environmental Sustainability Manager, added: “Sustainability is one of our firm’s core values and we have set ambitious net zero targets. One of those targets is to halve our Scope 3 emissions, compared to our 2019 levels. Scope 3 emissions are the ones that we can influence, but we can’t directly control. A significant part of our Scope 3 emissions is associated with our supply chain, so it’s crucial that we work with the

supply chain to reduce emissions.

“The road to net zero will introduce lots of different things to our industry and hydrogen is an important part of that solution. It can be easily serviced and easily refuelled. It’s a really important step to take to reduce our emissions.”

JCB Group Director – Special Projects Tim Burnhope added: “We’ve been working for over three years to develop this fantastic hydrogen combustion engine and we’ve spent that time testing the machines on JCB sites, accumulating over 50,000 hours of testing.

BOSS ORV PARTNERS WITH TECHNEAT ENGINEERING

PREMIUM, WITHOUT THE PREMIUM

For the smaller vineyard, a trimmer can be seen as something of a luxury – a job to be done only once or twice a year, this combined with a usually premium price tag results in trimmers being hired from your friendly local hire company, or loaned between neighbours. This works to an extent, but will always mean you are trimming when the machine is available, rather than when you want or need to be. Clemens have gone some way to relieving this problem, with the Easycut Lite trimmer. This machine combines the premium build quality and components taken from the Atlas trimmer range, with a simple mounting frame and streamlined options list to reduce the overall cost.

Suited to vineyards without side slopes, the frame encompasses front threepoint linkage posts as standard, but can also be fitted with one of a multitude of front consoles to fit the vast majority of tractors found in the UK. Hydraulic width adjustment from 1.3m-2.6m, and 700mm hydraulic height adjustment are standard, with the height adjustment ram being the only obstruction directly in front of the

tractor – the frame uprights sit either side of the machine, meaning forward visibility is excellent.

The cutter bars themselves are taken directly from the premium range, where options range from single L to double U – the Easycut Lite is available in double L profile only, with options of three, four or five knives per vertical cutter bar. The top cutter bars feature mechanical angle adjustment and two knives each, and all cutter bars are fitted with sprung safety breakaway should the machine encounter an obstacle or wayward post.

Each three-bladed knife is driven by its own belt, with no timing required should a

belt need replacing – the stainless steel belt cover is quick to remove after loosening its retaining bolts, and matches the stainless steel construction of the rest of the cutter bar, as well as the knife and knife drive hubs.

The Easycut Lite can be fitted either with hoses to match front or rear remotes, with two double acting and one single acting spool required, or can be fitted with electronic control for users lacking in spools, or wanting the extra comfort of using a single joystick to make easy on-the-move adjustments. This machine is in stock and available in time for the season, from Haynes Agricultural across the South.

ALPEGO 6M COMBINATION DRILL SET FOR MAJOR RELAUNCH

Appearing for the first time at the Cereals event, Opico will showcase Alpego’s globally popular 6m DTEK power harrow combination drill paired with an ASPro front hopper.

The DTEK Rapido power harrow is a heavy duty folding unit featuring Twin Force TEK – matched pairs of rotors fitted with calibrated Timken taper roller bearings to ensure consistent build tolerances across the trough, enhancing reliability and longevity. Rapido quick-fit drop forged tines are fitted as standard with two tungsten carbide options available to further limit downtime. Three rear rollers are offered – a notched steel Trapeze ring press, a rubber ridge roller and a conventional ‘hedgehog’-type packer. Optional, on-the-move, hydraulic depth adjustment is a useful option particularly in areas with widely varying soil types.

Mounted on the rear of the power harrow via a parallelogram linkage, the seeding bar provides a consistent, uniform drilling depth across all coulters. Spacings are standard at 12.5cm with 15cm rows an option.

Each individual 355mm boron disc coulter is mounted to the toolbar via a rubber shock absorber system which offers maintenancefree operation – no wearing bushes and no

grease nipples. As an additional downtime saver, the discs also have maintenance-free double taper-roller bearings. Staggered at 43cm, each opener can generate up to 60kg of downforce, ensuring consistent surface penetration irrespective of soil conditions.

Positioned above the seeding bar, the distribution head incorporates a patented Turbo Rotal impeller system which ensures uniform distribution to each outlet even at very low application rates. This guarantees a consistent application into each coulter across the working width, especially on sloping ground.

Hydraulic coulter lift is standard on the drill, handy if the operator needs to use the power harrow independently where a certain area of a field needs additional cultivation pre-drilling.

A front and rear combination drill offers a series of benefits. By providing even weight distribution across both axles, deep tractor wheelings are kept to a minimum especially in wetter conditions. The option of press wheels on the ASPro front hopper can further spread the load and aid in pre-drilling soil consolidation. On the road stability is improved due to the balance of weight.

Within 15 minutes the drill toolbar can be uncoupled so the that the power harrow

can be used as a standalone unit thanks to a straightforward hitch system.

With a 1,900 litre capacity, the ASPro front hopper features a stainless steel Dosal electronic metering unit capable of dealing with application rates as low as 2kg/ha and as high as 450kg/ha. The system offers easy rate changes without needing to switch metering rollers. This is done via the RDS Super control box – a user-friendly interface which offers electronic calibration and monitoring of the metering roller, fan speed and seed level. Pre-start function and electronic half-width shut off is standard with ISObus an optional upgrade.

The tank is equipped with a built-in lighting kit for safety on the road as well as providing the operator with plenty of visibility when working into the night.

With its split hopper and twin metering unit, Alpego’s front hopper range also includes the ASMax which can offer wider working widths of up to 8m, pairing well with the brand’s flagship DMAX power harrow. NEW HORSCH KREDO HD TAKES THE POWER HARROW TO NEW HEIGHTS

The new Horsch Kredo HD is the next generation of power harrow, optimised with well-proven technology to take performance to new heights in the sector. Thanks to a solid design, a 3m Kredo HD can be operated by tractors of up to 300hp, made possible by an 8mm thick hollow profile trough. This hollow profile design reduces the sealing surface to a minimum and the rotor sets are screwed from below. The tine carrier, rotor kit and the shaft, that is supported by two taper 60mm and 70mm roller bearings, can be dismantled from below. The power harrow is greased through an opening. JCB ADDS ULTRA-COMPACT TM110 TO TELEMASTER LOADER RANGE

With the order book open and production getting under way, JCB’s latest – and smallest –telescopic wheeled loader reinforces JCB Agriculture’s goal of meeting the materials handling needs of all farming, horticultural and other rural businesses.

Despite being the smallest model in the line-up, the all-new TM110 packs a performance punch that makes it a highly practical tool for use in livestock production and commercial horticulture, either as the sole handling machine or working alongside a larger handler.

It also provides an option for farmers with a small fixed arm loader to upgrade to a machine with more lift capacity, reach and load-placement versatility.

By combining ultra-compact dimensions

– less than 1.6m wide and 2.2m tall – with a generous payload of 1.1 tonnes and 3.5m lift height, the TM110 can work its way into buildings with the tightest access, yet still lift and stack big square bales and bulk containers.

JCB Agriculture Managing Director John Smith, said: “In recent years, we have focused on developing larger, more powerful and more capable telescopic wheeled loaders, such as the latest TM320S, the TM420 and TM420S with unique features such as the eight-speed 40kph or 50kph powershift transmission.

Powered by a 50hp diesel engine, the new TM110 has been designed for operators wanting the familiar central high-set driving position of a pivot steer telescopic wheeled loader for all-round visibility when working in and around buildings.

It can get into the smallest livestock sheds while still being capable of productive chores around the yard thanks to a safeworking load capacity of 1.1 tonnes that means the TM110 can comfortably handle the biggest square bales.

It can stack them too, despite the low-set boom mounting giving good forwards visibility, thanks to the 3.5m lift height when the boom is extended.

Handling bulk bags and containers typically holding a tonne of seed, fertiliser, AdBlue, silage preservative and so on, are all within the new machine’s capabilities.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power and torque are channelled to axles running on 31x15.5-15 tractor tread, industrial or turf pattern tyres, with the front and rear axles having a lockable differential engaged using a joystick button when maximum traction is needed on a slippery surface.

A fully hydrostatic transmission that enables the TM110 to tow up to 750kg provides yard working and road travel speeds up to 30kph, while an optional creep function can be added to separate ground and engine speed control when operating an attachment such as a feeding bucket, sweeper or cubicle bedding dispenser.

HYDRAULIC SERVICES

The boom and attachments are manipulated by a 50-litre/min gear pump hydraulics package with the capacity for more than one action to be made at a time – such as repositioning a bucket as the boom is lowered. As an option, the TM110’s boom can be fitted with JCB’s Smooth Ride System (SRS) hydro-gas suspension to absorb sharp movements and minimise the risk of spilling or dislodging loads as the loader passes over an uneven surface; it also gives the operator a more comfortable driving experience.

CANOPY OR CAB

The new TM110 is available with a simple ROPS-compliant four-post steel canopy that comes with a roof panel and windows front and rear to ward off the worst of any rain, or with a roomy two-door cab that is fullyglazed and comes with a heater for chilly winter days.

Cab and chassis-mounted LED driving and work lights are standard to illuminate the darkest of mornings and evenings, while the large windows and rear-view mirrors, and the low-set boom pivot exploit the raised, central driving position to ensure great all-round visibility.

JOHN DEERE TO SHOW WORLD’S LARGEST PRODUCTION TRACTOR

The world’s largest production tractor and a whole host of new spraying technology will be key draws to John Deere’s stand at Cereals 2025, demonstrating the innovations available to farmers now and in the future.

A first look at the eye-catching 9RX 830 will give farmers the opportunity to see how the new 913hp tracked machine has been designed with power, comfort and productivity in mind.

John Deere will also be showcasing three of its sprayers – the 340M self-propelled, and the R740i and R962i trailed models.

Chris Wiltshire, John Deere Tactical Marketing Manager, said: “There will also be an opportunity to talk about the new products and solutions we will be bringing to farms in the UK and Ireland this year.”

In the Sprays and Sprayers Arena, farmers at a range of scales can see how the latest application technology can improve accuracy and efficiency.

With a maximum boom width of 36m, the 340M is designed for tight spaces. It is highly manoeuvrable for awkward-shaped fields and narrow access roads but still accommodates large diameter tyres for minimum ground pressure.

Growers looking at trailed options can see the 24m R740i which has the unique PowrSpray dual-circuit solution system, with benefits including fast filling for a fast turnaround and more hectares sprayed per day.

For those looking for a larger boom width, the 36m R962i brings John Deere’s cutting edge See & Spray technology –spotting green weeds on brown soils – as well as the Individual Nozzle Control (INC) Pro upgrade, which will be on show for the first time at Cereals.

INC Pro technology improves application accuracy and reduces chemical usage, saving the operator money. It takes the stress out of maintaining a constant speed during conventional applications by using pulse width modulation technology to deliver a consistent application rate at constant pressure, producing the same size droplets, whatever the speed of the sprayer.

A wide range of tractors will also be on display, including the new 5M, new 6M and tracked 8RX 410 with eAutoPowr.

Available with new transmissions and integrated AutoTrac functionalities in the dashboard, the new John Deere 5M tractor is a versatile machine in the field, around the farmyard, and on the road. John Deere has also added the 5M 130 to the range, broadening the upper power class portfolio with a maximum output of up to 135 horsepower.

With a huge range of models offering a wide variety of horsepower from 95hp to 250hp, the new 6M provides operators with power, durability and speed with a top speed of 50kph, as well as new integrated technology such as a new corner post display.

HYDRAULIC FAN FOR INCREASED OUTPUT

Making its debut at Cereals 2025, the Stocks Turbo Jet 10 Hydraulic (HD) provides users with maximum airflow for higher application rates at working widths from 10m up to 15m. It can also be run at faster forward speeds and can be set up to apply full-width, in bands or in rows as required with outlets either blanked-off or doubled up as necessary. Renowned for airflow and output and built with industry-leading high-capacity electric fans, the current range of Stocks Turbo Jet’s excel at applying product at up to 10m. However, the need to work at wider widths across the UK continues. This has led Stocks to develop an applicator with even more air flow to apply small to medium sized seeds such as oilseed rape, clover, grass, mustard, etc... at high rates from 10m as well as micro and granular products at low to medium rates, all at up to 15m.

The Turbo Jet 10 HD’s hydraulic fan can be remotely mounted, making it simple to integrate with different host machines. Remote mounting also enables the fan to be sited away from dusty areas. On Cambridge rolls, the hydraulic unit can be fixed to the

main drawbar with the hopper positioned above the rollers, reducing the hydraulic pipework required.

Product is metered by a rotary feed and delivered pneumatically, however instead of an electrically driven fan, the Turbo Jet 10 HD has a multi-blade, 1,400 cubic feet per metre, 4” hydraulic Crary fan. This fan offers a maximum operational rpm of 6,000 and a 4cc motor, which offers an output to match most drills. This allows the tractor’s oil flow requirement to be kept low (27L/min - 65L/min).

Testing has been carried out on a range of product including slug pellets, wheat, barley, OSR and Avadex. Working at 15m and applying a precise, low-rate of Avadex granules, it produced a Coefficient of Variation of +/- 5%.

The Turbo Jet 10 HD has one metering segment per outlet allowing for precision metering and the standard range of 50mm diameter feed block kits are offered for common seed and granule sizes and application rates. A new high-rate, 59mm diameter, large feed block kit has also

been developed for the Turbo Jet 10 which will effectively feed product to the wider working widths, high application rates at standard widths or low weight, high volume products up to the 15m working width.

The applicator is supplied with either 10 or 20 outlets and with either a 240L or 400L hopper.

Two different control systems can be specified; the JACKAL or the i-CON, both offering fan speed and function monitoring. ISObus ready machines are also available and can be connected to the tractor’s in-cab terminal as required.

A Turbo Jet 10 Hydraulic with Jackal control, granular feed block kit (for Avadex) and a 10-outlet spreader kit retails at £8,508.

KUHN UPDATES ORCHARD AND VINEYARD SPRAYERS

Kuhn Farm Machinery has revamped its range of trailed orchard and vineyard sprayers with updated tank sizes and easier operation for existing machines, and a new model at the base of the range.

The latest addition is the entry-level PDF 2 rear suction, available with a round or a V-shaped fan. This joins the existing GEO 2 rear suction and ANTIS 2 front suction higher specification models. Edd Fanshawe, product specialist for the orchard and vineyard sprayers, said the improved range offers a wider choice for different users.

“The introduction of the PDF models adds an easy to use and uncomplicated sprayer for simple and accurate application to the range. The increasing number of

vineyards and orchards in the UK means these new models will be ideal for new plantations, or growers looking to control application timings, rather than relying on a contractor.”

The new PDF 2 range features manual control of each side of the sprayer, whereas the GEO and ANTIS ranges are both electrically regulated with two sections each side. Users benefit from a fully galvanised frame to improve longevity, while a choice of three drawbars will improve manoeuvrability in tight rows and headlands. A high-pressure Annovi Reverberi 120l/min pump, with manual pressure adjustment, is standard on the PDF 2 sprayers.

Two round fan models – 750mm and 850mm – for targeting high canopies, have optional air straighteners and deflectors, with 12 nozzles and a maximum air flow rate on the 850mm of 41,300m3/h. A single V-shaped rear suction option for increased precision also has an 850mm fan, 16 nozzles, and includes air straighteners as standard.

Kuhn has introduced changes to the tank sizes on the high specification ANTIS 2 and GEO 2, and mid-range ANTIS M 2 and GEO M 2. There is now a choice of three polyethylene tank sizes – 1,000, 1,500 or 2,000 litres – bringing familiarity across the three model lines.
