Compact handlers are becoming popular on livestock farms, either as a sidekick to a larger machine or as an alternative to a skiddy or little loader. Weidemann has done well in this market since introducing the T4512 in 2009, with a newer version of the 1.25t capacity.

If you have not got up close to a Weidemann T4512, the first point you will note on seeing one in the metal is the machine’s compact dimensions. Although it may look like a shrunken version of a ‘conventional’ telehandler, which in effect it is, the appeal goes beyond small size. Of course, a T4512 can access smaller buildings and yards, but these diminutive handlers score in their simple handling abilities. These are ‘jump in’ and go machines well-suited to handling the loads that will barely warm up a larger alternative.
It is this wider appeal that has seen interest in these models increase, with many livestock users seeing them as more than just a compact alternative to a larger machine that is frequently underutilised capacity wise. With new retail prices of around £50k, a Weidmann T4512 is more ‘affordable’ too. Sales have increased as has used model availability.
BASIC OUTLINE
At launch back in 2009, Weidmann offered two power variants of the T4512, the 23kW/31hp CC35 and 30kW/40hp CC40, with three-cylinder Yanmar diesel engines with respective capacities of 1.3 litres and 1.5 litres. Both variants have a rated lift of 1,200kg, with 440kg at full reach, all-wheel steering giving an outside turn radius of 5.21m. Ground clearance is listed at 0.26m on standard 10.0/75-15.3 tyres with an all up weight, with a fully glazed cab, of between 2.75 and 2.90 tonnes.
As to layout, the T4512 follows a ‘conventional’ format of cab to the left of a central telescopic boom with side-mounted engine. The Carraro supplied ‘open’ front and rear axles with no limited slip differential. A positive diff lock is an added cost option but will be a

rare find. A dual range hydrostatic transmission completes the outline package. As to key options, these would include a choice of partially glazed cab and, on paper, either a 42l/min gear pump or ‘HiFlow’ tandem pump with an increased output of 70l/min. The latter has no take up in the UK, but the more powerful CC40 T4512 has become the default choice, as did a fully glazed cab. There are no decals on the machine to indicate engine output.
Euro attachment carriage will be the default UK fit but skid steer and in-house Weidemann quickcoupler alternatives also available so check. Third service and hydraulic attachment lock standard.

Third service pipework on rear of attachment carriage needs looking over as it can get damaged. A release under pressure option is well worth having if you regularly swap between powered attachments.
Stage V emission regulations came into force for the 2021 model year and with it the introduction of the second generation models. Weidemann opted to offer an 18.4kW/25hp Yanmar diesel in place of the former generation’s 31hp unit at the lower capacity end. This was to allow the company to offer a T4512 without any form of exhaust after-treatment. The more powerful engine option saw output raised to 33kW/45hp but this variant needs to be fitted with a DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst) and DPF (diesel particulate filter) to meet Stage V but AdBlue is not required. As with the original gen one models, it is the 45hp engine in Stage V models that has become the default UK choice.
From 2021, Weidmann also began to offer the T4512e. This is powered by a 33.1kW electric motor with a choice of 18.0kW or 28.0kW battery pack. These models are not considered here.

BASIC SPEC CHECK
Dealers will typically specify a T4512 to meet end customer needs, a relatively ‘short’ options list nonetheless making it important to know exactly what to expect from a used buy. Further, there are standard spec differences between first generation and second gen Stage V T4512 models. Aside from the obvious engine power, key spec checks can include:
Cleat 10.0/75-15.3 cross ply tyres are standard, but there will be other choices offered including those with a block tread and radials to include 315/55 R16 sizes. Tyre wear tends to be relatively low, 4,000 hours not being uncommon, so it will not be unusual to find a used buy still fitted with its original rubber.
The two main hydraulic gear pump outputs offered are 42 and 70 litres per minute, but in practice it is the former that all UK models will be fitted with. All pumps, including the hydrostatic drive system, are made by Bosch Rexroth.
First generation models produced before
The drive layout has not altered since the T4512 was introduced, the hydro motor (in blue) mounting on the rear axle with a shaft taking drive to the front axle. These handlers all have permanent four-wheel drive, with an open diff as standard. Problems with the transmission are unusual if the oil and filters are changed to schedule. Wear in the track rods is unlikely to be an issue, even on units with 5,000 hours plus on the clock.

First generation models have a dual range hydrostatic drive, essentially work and transport, the latter topping out at 20km/hr. A 30km/hr option was also available. Stage V models may have up to four drive modes but in outline the basics are Auto for maximum performance and eco-mode that reduces the maximum engine speed to 2,200rpm once the desired driving speed has been reached. Two further drive options for use with hydraulically operated attachments are offered but rare.
Rear three-point linkage and 540rpm pto had a decent uptake on gen one models. Unusual but not as rare as you might think. Other options to look out for include extra work lights and locking differentials (rare). There are more choices available but these are the key specs to look for on a used buy.
KEY USED CHECKS –NO HIDDEN SURPRISES
The adage that if it pivots, runs or rolls it will wear will of course apply, so it pays to look the handler over carefully. If you are methodical, it will make this easier. Most of what follows is obvious but it is all too easy to miss something.

• Do not be suspicious of low recorded hours. These handlers are more likely to see 'little and often' usage.
• Accessories to fit compact telehandlers is on the increase, reflecting their growing popularity.
• Most common models will have the more powerful of the two engine options.
• Third service and hydraulic carriage lock are default fit in the UK.
• A well-integrated rear linkage and 540rpm pto option was offered on first generation models but not Stage V.

• Before just assuming you know what you want, it may well pay to talk to your dealer. They will not want to supply a machine that turns out to be the wrong choice. With that said, a T4512 will be likely to cover most yard handling needs currently covered by a larger model, a point to note if you are not exploiting your existing handler.
• Cleat pattern will tend to be less expensive than a block alternative when it comes to replacements, but on a used handler the block tyres are unlikely to add a big premium to the bottom line. If these are the tyres you want, hold out and see if a suitably equipped used buy becomes available. This is where it pays to call a dealer and tell them what you need and would like.
• Although crab and front steering are offered on Stage V machines, the simple all-wheel steer of Gen One machines is fine for most, with traction without needing differential locks explaining why the latter are rarely specified.
The 25hp 1.3 litre Yanmar engine is of a similar physical size to the Stage V compliant 45hp 1.5 litre unit, with both allocated the same amount of under bonnet space. This is despite the latter needing to accommodate a bulky emission system. Check the radiators are clean and look for any evidence of overheating. Units worked in dusty conditions or handling sawdust need a regular clean. Note around a third of the radiator looks after hydraulic cooling. The radiator fan is hydraulically driven.
GENERAL CONDITION
Weidemann T4512 telehandlers have a good standard finish and respond well to a thorough clean. A few battle scars are to be expected on a well-used machine but even high hour examples should ‘scrub up’ well. There are no key areas of cosmetic concern but check for corrosion around the base of the cab and underneath the floor. If muck is not cleaned off the headstock and front of the chassis it can lead to surface corrosion that can spoil the look of an otherwise sound machine. A point to note is all steel edges are rounded off in the factory. This is to help reduce the chance of the paint failing back from the edge of these vulnerable areas.
HEADSTOCK AND ATTACHMENT CARRIAGE
Pivot pin wear is an obvious starting point. Look for evidence of greasing and damaged or missing grease points. A dealer prepared machine should be fine, but do not expect all pivots to have new pins or bushes. Look for corrosion around the base of the attachment carriage and signs of damage. If possible, hook up a bucket or forks, checking for locking on and easy release. This should also show up any misalignment from a handling mishap.
New pins and bushes are not difficult to fit, a point to note if you pick up some play
that does not warrant immediate attention but will do further down the line. The trick is to keep on top of wear before the bush is worn through. The pins and bushes will appear ‘slimmer and thinner’ when compared to a larger machine.
BOOM EXTENSION AND PIVOT WEAR
Any play should be easy enough to pick up but it is less likely on these small handlers than may be the case with a larger machine. This is mainly down to usage, these machines tending to have led an easier life with lower hours. If an auto-lube system is fitted, look for evidence of it having done its job and ensure it is topped up with grease.
RAMS, SEALS AND HYDRAULIC PIPES
The way in which the main hydraulic hoses are run on top of the boom should mean they are less liable to damage, with problems here unlikely. Those hoses that run to the carriage and attachments need a check to include the couplings. Stage V models will have flat face couplings as standard. The main boom lift and carriage tilt rams are not known for problems but still check for evidence of seal leaks. Wear in the ram pivot points is uncommon even on higher hour machines but still check.
WHAT’S USED
AXLES AND STEERING
Hub leaks and steering wear will be unusual, even on machines that have clocked up to 6,000 hours plus. This is in part down to reduced tyre scrub in all steering modes due to both axles having open differentials. Still take a good look and switch between the steering modes on Stage V models. Tyre wear should be even across the axles.
REAR AXLE PIVOT
This is one area that can be prone to wear, but it is easy to check. Fire up the loader and extend the boom preferably with a loaded bucket to help reduce the load on the rear axle. Now push on a rear tyre and see if you can detect any play as it is rocked back and forth. Any slight sway suggests there is wear in the pivot. The axle pivot is often overlooked when it comes to getting greased, with machines used over rough ground more likely to suffer. This is a common wear point on these models and it pays to have it repaired if even slight play is picked up.
PARKING BRAKE
First generation models have a mechanical handbrake that is liable to seize if not periodically cleaned and checked. Most users do not apply the brake as the hydrostatic drive will hold the machine on the level. Stage V handlers have an electronic system that automatically engages the brake as soon as the engine is stopped. These tend to be trouble free but still check.

Under the skin, the core elements are much the same, but later models have improved cab and ‘feel’ more refined to drive. Need a quick and easy identifier? If it has a red roof, it is a Stage V machine. Note raised engine cover of Stage V model, the same design being fitted to the 25hp machine despite the latter not needing to accommodate bulky emission hardware.
Cab of original 2009 to 2021 First generation models perfectly good for most users, with surprising amount of room for the operator when the machine’s overall dimensions are considered. Grey plastic may be black on some models. Current T4512 handlers benefit from a revised layout, with improved joystick, wide brake/inching pedal and better heating and ventilation that can include air conditioning.
WHAT’S USED
Stage V models have a revised cab interior with a cloth covered seat. Air seat suspension is a common fit on the more powerful 45hp variants. The foot pedals are changed with an easier to reach drive pedal and a broad brake/inching pedal.
WEIDEMANN VS KRAMER
• There are three members in the Wacker Neuson compact telehandler range, the subject Wiedemann T4512, Kramer KT144 and Wacker Neuson TH412. All three come off the same Weidemann production line in Germany and they share a common core basic design. That said, there are differences, with the Kramer KT144 having a 300kg heavier build and 200kg increased lift capacity; a Stage V KT144 will lift up to 1,450kg.
• Does this make a difference and should it influence your used buying choices? If you need extra maximum lift capacity then there is your answer. Will you notice this capacity in work? Not in terms of general handling, as both the KT4512 and Kramer KT144 share the same hydraulics. Where it will show up is when raising a heavy load at extended reach.
A first generation handler cab will typically have mechanically suspended seat with a vinyl covering. A worn seat pan is par for the course, a point to note if a cover is fitted. On these models, the drive and brake/ inching pedal are the same size. Check the handbrake. These often seize through lack of use.
ENGINE
If treated to fresh oil and filters every 500 hours or so, the Yanmar engine used in the T4512 should be both trouble free and long lived. The DOC and DPF system on 45hp Stage V models does need to be allowed to run through its active regeneration process, many of these handlers not being worked hard enough for this to be done within a normal working cycle.
A point to look for is evidence of overheating. This can be caused if the radiator is run clogged with debris, with machines used to handle materials such as sawdust needing more frequent attention. If the engine does overheat, it may blow a head gasket. Look for evidence of water leaks and check for corrosion on the radiator, particularly at the base. Coolant should typically be renewed every other year.
TRANSMISSION
The transmission oil should be renewed at 1,500 hour intervals. Problems in the drive pump and motor are rare but still swap between the drive modes and ensure the machine operates smoothly. Apart from looking for leaks and evidence of damage, there is little you can do to really check the machine’s transmission but look at the oil and check it is clean and does not have a
burnt smell. If you are buying privately, it may be worth calling the supplying dealer. You cannot expect them to reveal the handlers service history but they may offer some advice.
CAB AND CONTROLS
Worn seats and door seals rubbed by frequent trips to and from the cab are part of a used telehandlers lot. Some of these handlers will have low hours but have seen frequent short periods of operation so wear in these areas is to be expected. Also check for damaged switches, with broken tops quite common.
Original joystick offers good proportional control, current design fitted from 2021 featuring a revised layout for ancillary controls. In the cab, press every button. The tops of some may have detached. New switches will cost around £50.
WHAT’S USED
FIRST GENERATION VERSUS STAGE V
• First generation models launched in 2009, with sales in the UK from 2010. Second generation Stage V introduced for 2021 model year.
• Dimensions for all models unchanged, with the same reach. Stage V models will lift 50kg more.
• Yanmar engines retained, but output of 1.3 litre Stage V unit reduced from 31hp to 25hp to allow it to run without any after-treatment system. The Stage V 1.5 litre engine’s output increased from the first generation unit’s 40hp to 45hp. The latter requires a DPF and DOC emission control system.
• First generation models have dual range hydrostatic drive. Stage V T4512 models fitted with more advanced Electric Control Drive, (ECDrive), that is claimed to optimise performance. In broad outline, Auto mode allows the engine to run at speeds of up to 2,750rpm for optimum performance. Eco-mode reduces the engine speed to 2,200rpm once the desired driving speed has been reached. Two further drive mode options are available, both designed for use with hydraulically operated attachments but rare in UK ag sector.
• Electric handbrake with auto-hold and hill-hold function on Stage V handlers. This electronically controlled brake applies automatically when the machine comes to a standstill, when it is in neutral or when the operator leaves the cab.
• All variants with the lower power engines will have a transport speed of up to 20km/hr. Stage V 45hp models will have been offered with a choice of 20km/hr or 30km/hr speeds, a speed decal on the cab door showing the selected option. Some 40hp First generation models were offered with a 30km/ hr speed, but check.
• Hydraulic pump output of 42l/min pretty much standard.
• Fuel tank capacity of Stage V models increased from the first generation’s 25 litres to 33 litres. Hydraulic tank capacity for all variants 40 litres.
• Stage V models add front-steer and crab-steer modes
• Cab refinements on Stage V red roof models include fold-down armrest with storage compartment, improved seat with air suspension, drinks holder and an oddments storage net. Air conditioning is also offered as are radio and USB connection options. The cab fittings on Stage V models got an uplift with an updated joystick.
• Glazed cab on Stage V models default in the UK, with front, rear and roof screen wipers as standard. Retractable sun screen. Heated rear window.
• EquipCare three year/3,000 hour warranty from new.
WHAT’S USED
The rear axle pivot above the hydraulic drive motor has a grease point that is often overlooked. Wear in the pin and bush is common, so check carefully for any play (see text). Allow upwards of £500 for a repair.
MIRRORS AND MUDGUARDS
Clearly these are the most likely items to get damaged. A dealer may replace cracked mudguards with new if they detract from a machine that otherwise presents well, but do not expect new items to be ‘thrown in with the deal’ if the guards are on the tatty side. At around £150 each, it is clear a new set will impact on the bottom line.
TYRES
Look for damage and any sign that the tyre is starting to fail structurally. Low tyre tread wear is not the same as the rubber being in good condition. Also look for damaged wheel rims.
Block tread tyres are a cost option, most sticking to cleat designs that are less expensive to renew. Tyre wear on the T4512 tends to be low, with reduced scrub in turns due to the axles having an open differential. Locking front differentials have proven a rarely specified option.
HOW MUCH?
Used equipment prices are forever in a state of change but as a guide consider £25,000 a good starting budget for a first generation 40hp T4512. This should secure a sound machine.
You can pay less but seek advice if you are looking at the ‘well-worn and tired’ end of the market. Fixing a badly worn rear axle pivot, renewing failing carriage attachment pins and pivots plus replacing a worn seat pan and renewing the odd damaged switch can swallow £2,000. Allow at least £1,250 for a fresh set of tyres or at least double that for high specification block pattern items.
SUMMARY
Wiedemann T4512 handlers can make a sound used purchase, first generation models that do enter the used market typically having little trouble finding a new home. You will pay more for a later Stage V machine for obvious reasons, with well-cared for examples tending to have a tenacious grip on their residual value. As is always the case, it is not what you pay but how much the machine costs over its working life that really counts.

As the organiser of the Bodle Street Green, East Sussex Charity Drive It Day I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 468 exhibitors who came to our tiny village of Bodle Street Green on Sunday 26 April during the day. It was the biggest amount of exhibitors and people we have had here since starting these events nine years ago.
My team could not get them all in the
village hall car park, but they all parked in the local area and walked down to the hall.
The Sunday morning road run organised by Horam Scout leader Colin Anton saw 64 tractors take part on an 11 mile road run around the leafy lanes of East Sussex. All exhibitors were given a refreshment and cake voucher for participating.

road from the village hall. From the raffle some £2,700 was raised for St Wilfred’s Hospice and Bodle Street Green Village Hall. I would like to thank all of the 15 volunteers who gave up their time to make this event the success it was. It will be the 10th anniversary of this event in 2027 and will take place on Sunday 25 April so do make a date in your diary and do come along it is greatly appreciated.
Dave Anstiss 1945-2026 was probably best known as being the man behind the highly successful events held at Stream Farm near the village of Laughton, East Sussex said Dave Vaughan.
The spring event known as The Cuckoo Spring Fair goes back to 1992 and was held originally on a site near Pevensey. It takes its name from an ancient ceremony held at Heathfield market where it is said an old lady used to let a captive Cuckoo out of a cage to herald the start of spring.
Today the Cuckoo Fair is held over the late May bank holiday and attracts large crowds and a great number of exhibits, including many tractors. It was put on as a curtain raiser to the rally season and quickly became a popular event. So much so that Dave Anstiss bought a farm in Laughton and the Laughton showground was born. A couple of years later another event began at the back end of the season in September called ‘The Laughton Country Show’ which carries on today. Both events became a popular fixture in
the Sussex rally calendar but Dave was not one to stand still and was always making improvements to make the showground what it is today.
Dave enjoyed the steadfast support of his wife Paddy in organising each event, and was also greatly aided by his son Ross and his wife Nicky plus a great team of willing volunteers. As the site amenities were progressively improved Stream Farm also became a popular venue for car clubs and a wedding venue.
Dave endured a series of heart operations but these did not hold him back. Latterly Dave’s health problems caused him to slow down but Ross, Nicky and his two granddaughters have been able to take on running the showground.
The funeral was held at the Wealden Cemetery on 29 April.. Dave’s coffin was conveyed there by his 1949 Ford Pilot V8 pickup, one of many classic and vintage vehicles to have been owned by him and his family over the years. The service was conducted by
the Rev David Farey who had been the vicar at Laughton parish church and had conducted the arena church services at every event.
When Dave found himself to be short of someone to commentate on the car classes the vicar stepped in and proved to have a wealth of motoring history knowledge. David Farey paid tribute to the fact that, even when he had undergone serious heart surgery and was later confined to a wheelchair nothing got in him down, he said: “Dave was always a glass half full man, a real character with a big heart and will be sadly missed.”
Being the capable showman he was he would have insisted that “The show must go on” And so it will. The next Laughton Country Show will take place over the weekend of 12-13 September at Stream Farm.
Farm Machinery wish Paddy, Ross and their family many more years of enjoying events at the showground and I can assure them that Dave and his contribution to the farming and transport heritage movement will not be forgotten.
SUSSEX RALLY PROMOTER WILL BE SORELY MISSED NATIONAL LATEST
Since our appeal in the last issue of Farm Machinery three organisers have possibly come forward to stage the National Vintage Tractor Road Run in 2027 on Easter Day. It is hoped to head to Gloucestershire in 2027, but if that does not happen then it will be possibly be in Essex or Norfolk. However organisers have come forward for 2028 where it will head to Somerset. FERGUSON BIRTHPLACE IS NOW A MUSEUM
The birthplace and homestead of pioneer engineer Harry Ferguson, near Annahily, County Down, Northern Ireland has been purchased by a group who have formed the Ferguson Memorial Museum Ltd (June 2025) which is to be developed as a museum celebrating the life of Harry Ferguson and is right opposite the superb Ferguson Memorial Gardens.
This has come about following longstanding calls for a permanent site to recognise Harry Ferguson’s extraordinary contribution to agriculture and engineering. Born in 1884, Harry Ferguson transformed global farming through the invention of the Ferguson System, a breakthrough that revolutionised tractor design and remains the foundation of modern agricultural machinery.
His famous partnership with Henry Ford led to the Ford-Ferguson tractor, followed by the UK-manufactured TE20 series. More than 517,000 of these were produced and sold in 100 countries.
Robert Kerr (one of the partners) said:
“This is about securing the place where Harry Ferguson’s story began and finally giving his legacy the recognition it deserves. His ideas changed farming across the world, and that influence is still felt today. There is no better place to celebrate the man and his legacy than where he was born and lived.”
Plans are now being developed to conserve the Homestead and create a visitor-focused museum rooted in education, innovation and inspiration for future generations. The site is located just outside Royal Hillsborough and is directly accessible from the A1 motorway.”

SPECIAL ANNIVERSARY ROAD RUN
Mark Sargeant has been in touch to tell us about a very special road run that is to take place on Saturday 4 July at 10am. It is devoted to the Ferguson TE-20 range, Ferguson FE35 grey and gold and Massey Ferguson 35 to 1964 and their variants and is being staged to pay tribute to the 80th and 70th Ferguson anniversaries of the TE-20 and FE35.
This is certainly an event I am sure you will not want to miss and starts at HV Pugh premises the MF dealers at Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. The run will be approximately 30 miles and will have its lunch stop at Peter and Julie Brown’s collection. Do make a date and take part with your Ferguson and MF 35.

DAVID BROWN MAKES IT!
One of the heroes of the HCVS London to Brighton Run on Sunday 3 May was Michael Brown, who was representing the Southern Counties Historic Vehicle Preservation Trust (SCHVPT), with their 1955 David Brown industrial.
This particular machine was used by the Reading brewers H. &. G. Simonds for transporting malt, complete with a brightlypainted malt tank trailer. It has been with the SCHVPT for decades now and was used
for rallies many years ago, but ended up in long-term storage and, upon re-emerging, suffered a mechanical failure which meant the 2026 Brighton was its first proper showing for some time.
In the past, the SCHVPT would not take its trailer onto the road, but Brown rightly decided it should be seen, and didn’t mind driving from Godstone to Copthorne with a top speed of 14mph, falling to 4mph on the steeper hills, but they made it!

BRITISH CHALLENGE 2006
On Sunday 21 June 2026 a very special Father's Day Tractor Road Run is set to take place to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the British Tractor Challenge 2006 (a Guinness Book of Records event) for the most tractors gathered together (2,141).
These were working all together in one field on 25 June 2006 organised by John and the late Linda Collingborn at John Eavis’ field
next to Hullavington Airfield.
The start is Chain Bridge Inn, Kemeys Commander, Usk NP15 1PP. Why not enjoy a bacon roll and drink before it all starts at approximately 10.30am. All participants of the 2006 event are very welcome.

MAJOR SALES FOR CHEFFINS THIS AUTUMN
Following a successful plant and construction sale in Kent recently, leading agricultural machinery auctioneer, Cheffins, has been appointed to host two major timed online machinery sales on behalf of Velcourt, Britain’s largest farm management business, following the company’s recent strategic restructure.
Velcourt, which manages more than 128,000 acres on behalf of landowners, announced in September 2025 that it would reduce its contracting operations by around 20% across the Cotswolds, Midlands and East Anglia. The move forms part of a wider plan to release capital and refocus investment into other areas of the farming business.
As a result, a significant volume of quality machinery will be brought to market. Cheffins will oversee two dedicated auctions: a June sale focusing on cultivation equipment, followed by a September sale featuring harvest and application machinery. Together, the sales will comprise a substantial offering of arable equipment and high-capacity machinery, all maintained to a high standard from within Velcourt’s professional farming operation.
Nick Shorter, Chief Executive of The Velcourt Group said: “We undertook a strategic review across the business and identified the need to release capital from machinery in order to reinvest for the future. Changes to farm support mechanisms, alongside inflationary pressures, have altered the risk profile of some of our contracting and combinable crop agreements.”
“This restructure allows us to reposition the business, reinvesting in areas where we see stronger long-term growth. While we will be ceasing operations on around 6,500 hectares following harvest, we have taken on a further 4,500 hectares. These new operations see different business models and focusses, and we will be looking to maximise these opportunities and use the proceeds of these two auctions to refocus on other parts of our business.”

OLDEST FORDSON SELLS FOR £33,592
In its original livery and never used during its life the ex Californian F that sold here for £4,776
The Duane Helman sale, Conover, Ohio which concluded on Wednesday 6 May saw the oldest known Fordson tractor sold. The 1917 Fordson experimental no. 9X which sold for £33,592 and is on the high seas right now heading to the UK! It was sold by the Henry Ford Museum, Detroit in 1983 to Duane while the other eight experimental models were scrapped. Henry Ford himself drove it as he did all of the experimental models.
The tractor has been run and driven in the last five years and runs well, Duane used it to test out his rebuilt carburettors. It carries six spoke rear wheels, prototype front wheels, and prototype front hubcaps. Some other unique prototype features that this tractor

£83,780
At the successful Tom Godsmark staged Cheffins automobilia sale at Sutton, Ely, Cambridgeshire on 21 March a 1920s Stepney Tyres enamel sign sold for a record-breaking £83,780.
Measuring 5ft x 4ft the sign sold for more than eight times its £10,000 estimate. The staggering hammer price is understood to be a record price for an automobilia piece at a UK auction and it is said to have been won by a British collector.
A good number of readers have travelled with our correspondent Peter Love to Ohio to see the Fordson X prototype at Duane Helman’s premises over the years that sold for £33,592
carries include: The air washer and starting tanks are cast in one, the fuel tank has an extra piece of metal on each side, the rear wheels have 16 cleats rather than 14, the throttle control rods are on the rear of the dash and the transmission filler is on an angle by the gear lever. It also has a toolbox and a drawbar and had a bonnet over the fuel tank. Paint is flaking on the hood around the fuel cap and also has a minor leak around the fuel valve, but what a tractor.
Another of interest was Fordson F no. 544198 a tractor that went into storage when it was new and never used. The engine is free, transmission condition unknown and came from a dealership in California. It went on to sell for £4,776.

The latest Euro Auctions sale in late April saw a mixture of tractors go under the hammer. As usual, the sale took place on the first of the three-day auction, with the machines parading on the selling ramp. Their age range and condition varied considerably, although most could be described as being in relatively new and very good condition. Others though had a more work-worn appearance, all adding to the variety of the tractors on offer.
As ever, the crawler tractors were the first to be sold, with a Yanmar CT120 with 2810 hours on the clock coming out on top when it sold for £15,000. Next up was an unused Massey Ferguson 7724S Dyna-6 four-wheel drive which turned out to be the most expensive tractor in the auction. In top condition with only 11 hours on the clock, it

went on to sell for £75,000 while not that far behind was a 2017 New Holland T7.315 4WD with 4916 hours behind it. Again in good condition, it sold for £68,000, while a 2019 New Holland T7.225 with 10,646 hours on the clock sold for £35,000. From the same year was a New Holland T7.260 with 7,624 hours behind it which made £34,000.
There was also a good selection of John Deere tractors on offer, starting off with a 6215R from 2016. Complete with front linkage and showing 8,730 hours on the clock, it sold for £39,000 while a 2016 John Deere 6130M also caught the eye. Complete with front linkage and PTO as well as a, JD 623R loader, it had 7,591 hours behind it and made £36,500 in the auction.
Moving on a 2019 Valtra T234 4WD was worth a second look. Showing just 2,110 hours on the clock, it sold for £30,000.

In great condition a 2022 Kubota M7-153 four-wheel drive, having a reported 10,152 hours on the clock, sold for £27,000 which was a good price with that many hours on it. Looking the part was a 2016 JCB Fastrac 4190 complete with front linkage that was showing 5,392 hours on the clock which sold for £39,500. A very tidy 2016 Case IH95U 4WD, which was fitted with a seven gang mower, with 2,845 hours behind it, sold for £25,000 in combination.
Of course, there were several older tractors going under the hammer too, including a Massey Ferguson 2220 four-wheel drive that had a reported 2,459 hours which sold for £9,500. The best of the rest was a Ford 5640 Powerstar SLE four-wheel drive fitted with a Trima front loader and bucket showing 1,784 hours on the clock, it looked to be in good condition overall and duly sold for £10,500.

All in all, this tractor section was not by any means as large as in previous auctions but there were still some interesting tractors on offer and some bargains to be had if you looked closely.

BIGGEST COLLECTIVE EVER!
This year’s annual Cheffins Vintage Collective took place in glorious sunshine over 24-25 April at Sutton, Cambridgeshire. It turned out to be a bumper sale for just about everyone with 3,873 lots to go for over the two days which grossed £2.4 million with lots going to destinations across Europe, New Zealand, USA and Canada.
The highlight on the Friday came with lot 594 when the Ferguson system demonstration model and original box that had been offered before (last October) sold this time at a cracking £9,600.
Prompt on 9am on the Saturday Oliver Godfrey introduced the tractor sale paying tribute to the late Paul Ducksbury who had been a good customer to Cheffins over

the years. The tractor sale was made up of approximately 367 tractors, predominantly Ford family with over 100 entries, but Massey Ferguson was not far behind.
This was the first vintage collective where there were no Fordson N tractors in the sale although there was an earlier F which was reasonably complete, but needed the works and sold for £2,800. The highlight was the south coast entered 1962 Matbro Mastiff, one of 18 built and six genuine examples have lasted today of these under developed monsters which eat half-shafts in working times. This example had been sold by Cheffins decades ago and fully rebuilt by the owner, but the rust was just coming through the paint in a place or two. It sold relatively quickly at £64,000 grade 4.
The 1963 Doe New Performance Triple D that was part of the Devon May 2019 Rodney Cowle sale no. D310 still in just the same condition was got away at £43,000, showing the realignment in Doe prices at the moment.
A 1988 Ford 7610 II two-wheel drive with 1,855 hours in very original condition that had cleaned up well and knocked down at £29,000 plus VAT. Later on a 1991 7610 III with 6,591 hours again two-wheel drive sold for some £29,500 both new records. Some £42,000 was offered for a fully restored 1984 Ford 8210 four-wheel drive from the same stable, but was not accepted. Nevertheless £57,000 + VAT was accepted for the 1987 TW-35 with 7,941 hours a lovely professional restoration with £40,000 plus VAT spent on it and yet another world record.
The next lot of interest was the 1998 New Holland 6640 4WD Sebra drop nose conversion with Trima 1495 loader which raised £13,000 plus VAT. Hardly any of these conversions worked in the UK so it was interesting to inspect this machine that started out at Basildon.
One of the loveliest tractors was the 1976 Roadless 105 OTW861 so well restored at some cost again, perhaps not the nicest tractors to drive on a long road run with its Duncan cab, it sold here at £17,000. It was a bargain, but classic Roadless tractors are out of fashion at the moment not like County in most cases. In fact there was a record price for a 1977 County 1174 PWN806R when £50,000 was paid for a grade 4.9 example.
The 1989 Ford TW-25 four-wheel drive G179TFE with 3,539 hours that Sharmans supplied to Mettam Hire Ltd was sold for £30,000. It looked a little customised, but that is how it worked with the roof painted in an oxide type colour. A very original clean style imported 1974 County 8000 DP 2WD without cab, but with roll bar and well detailed got to £17,000, which was what it was worth really, but more than is expected.
When it came to Massey Ferguson the sale started with a so so painted Massey Ferguson 35X with Selene front axle making this tractor a rare machine, but without paperwork, which can affect prices considerably, was got away at £9,500. We had started with a Ferguson Brown A no. 667 in original style condition raised a good £20,500 and it contrasted with the well
restored example No. 821 that changed hands at £19,500 and showed the realignment in the prices for these tractors that has been going on this year. The biggest Massey here was the 1505 import of decades ago which was an early replacement entry with paperwork, the Caterpillar 3208 artic sold for a good £25,500. It was not a MF 1200 day – the three examples offered were not up to the grade quite frankly and only one changed hands. Lots of lovely classic MFs came and went making very good money, but the Lincolnshire entered MF 35X WVL265 a gem of originality with a Twose mid-mounted mower and differential lock had a reserve of £11,500 and it sold for £13,000. One of the nicest MFs was the 1970 1150 V8 import OCK212H which was so well restored ten years ago and sold here for a good £20,000.
As for International there was a Japanese Kimco 676 with its four-wheel drive system and big slogging six-cylinder Komatsu engine, and no cab which came from the Mooka factory in Tochig Prefecture. It went to £5,500 not sold, but next the Kent entered 1980 886 four-wheel drive also ex Japanese sold for £7,800 grade 3. Later on there was also a Japan Satoh David Brown in the sale with mower in lovely original condition it got to £4,000 not sold and was a gem.
There were three major collections offered during the sale and most of the prices were ‘dusty’ as were most of the stock from these collections unfortunately a reminder to look after your tractors at all times. The market

All in all the prices held up well for this massive bulk sale. The three auctioneers kept going well from 9am – 6.08pm and did not slack one bit, congratulations to everyone involved. As they say life is a roller coaster and so are tractor prices right now, but they are essentially holding up very well indeed compared to other things in the rest of the vehicle collecting market.

NEW FENDTS MAKE CEREALS DEBUT
For the first time, Cereals visitors will be able to see the new Fendt 800 series tractor and the latest Rogator 645 Gen 2 self-propelled sprayer, with one model demonstrating in the spraying arena and a second on the Fendt stand.
“Fendt has launched new 500, 700, 800 and 1000 series models in the last 12 months and the Cereals crowd will be able to get their hands on the latest 826 if they visit the Fendt stand. There will also be an MT943 on the stand to demonstrate Fendt’s commitment to offering tracked tractors for heavy draft work,” said Fendt’s Ed Dennett.
Cereals 2026 will be the first chance to see the updated Fendt Rogator Gen 2. The self-propelled sprayer features improved electronic, pneumatic nozzle bodies, Banjo plumbing connections and valves, and the ContiRinse system to improve accuracy and reduce downtime.
The updates are available on the latest 645, 655 and 665 Rogator, with the top model boasting a 6,000 litre tank capacity
The new Fendt 800 Vario includes three models, the 826, 829 and 832
and 307hp engine to operate a 24m or 36m working width. All models in the range come with the option to automatically select nozzle combinations relative to forward speed, which enables optimum nozzle pressure. This, in turn, reduces drift, which is also maintained as forward speed changes.
“There have been feature updates on the boom height control which means that spray height is optimised at 50cm through the Rogator’s OptiSonic ultrasonic boom,” added Mr Dennett.
The fifth generation 800 Vario includes three models: the 826, 829 and 832 with Power+, Profi and Profi+ specifications available. The range features Fendt’s DynamicPerformance (DP) added power concept which offers a boost of 23hp (17 kW).
Fendt’s latest VarioDrive has been paired with an efficient 8.0 litre, 6 cylinder CORE80 engine to maximise power and reduce fuel consumption. The CORE80 engine is approved for HVO100 and other fuels, which can significantly reduce the machine's CO2
The FendtONE operating concept highlights how data sharing can save time and money
footprint. Fendt’s iD concept saves fuel during high torque, low speed work and also on the road, meaning at 40 km/h the engine works at 950 rpm, 50 km/h at 1,200 rpm, and the top speed of 60 km/h at 1,450 rpm.
“The 800 Vario range appeals to both arable and mixed farms and is likely to prove popular with contractors looking to optimise power to weight ratios and improve fuel efficiency. All Fendt tractors and the Rogator range operate FendtONE which has also seen recent updates and is now free to download for all Fendt customers,” said Mr Dennett.
The FendtONE operating concept is intuitive to operate for operators who have not experienced a Fendt before and enables tractors to share operational data with other machines like the Rogator to reduce set up time and setting field boundaries. Operational data can subsequently be captured using the FendtONE offboard system to report on the efficiency of tasks and save this data to improve future applications.
The power to weight ratio of the 800 series will be appealing to arable operators
Exhibiting at Cereals 2026 Merlo will showcase a targeted line up of high performance agricultural telehandlers and attachments developed specifically for arable operations.
On display will be the TF45.11 TCS-170 CVTronic HF, a flagship model engineered for high-throughput grain handling and large Heston-type bale handling. Offering a 4.5 tonne lift capacity and 10.8 metre lift height, the TF45.11 is powered by a 170hp Stage V engine and equipped with Merlo’s CVTronic continuously variable transmission, delivering smooth power transfer, optimal traction and reduced driveline losses during sustained loading cycles. The High Flow (HF) specification, featuring a larger-capacity hydraulic pump, delivers increased oil flow for faster cycle times and consistent performance when loading grain trailers or operating high-demand attachments.
Also on the stand will be the TF38.10 TTCS-145 CVTronic, providing a 3.8 tonne lift capacity with a 9.7 metre lift height. Well suited to fertiliser bag handling, bale stacking and grain store work, the TF38.10 combines a compact footprint with CVT drive and precise hydraulic control. The TT system, incorporating hydraulic frame levelling and boom sideshift, allows for accurate load positioning at height as well as
offering excellent manoeuvrability without compromising reach or stability.
Both models feature hydraulic frame levelling, hydropneumatic cab suspension for increased operator comfort, and boom suspension technology to enhance load stability and control when operating across uneven ground or during road travel, supporting high productivity during long working days.
Merlo will also display key arable attachments, including the V7000 MX bale spike and A2420 bag handler, engineered
to provide safe, controlled handling of bales and bulk fertiliser bags while maximising operational efficiency.
All machines feature Merlo’s advanced safety and stability systems, intuitive operator interfaces and robust chassis design – supporting high usage rates, reduced operating costs and long-term durability. With a strong focus on efficiency, reliability and operator confidence, Merlo telehandlers continue to represent a compelling commercial solution for modern arable businesses.
The National Association of Agricultural Contractors (NAAC) has released its latest survey of contracting prices. The results show that prices have generally risen overall, a few percent higher than 2025.
Prices are based on red diesel at £0.70 per litre and do not include AdBlue. Ongoing instability in the Middle East is contributing to rapidly fluctuating fuel prices, and contractors are advised to add a fuel surcharge where diesel rises above 70p per litre.
This survey reflects responses from across the UK, so higher and lower rates contribute to an average price. For this reason, it is critical that all operators calculate their own costs to ensure they are covering overheads. NAAC members can use the costing tool developed by The Anderson Centre to work out actual costs and realistic prices to charge; these may differ significantly from the averages published in this survey.
Commenting, Jill Hewitt, NAAC CEO, said: ‘This year we asked
members whether they plan to put up their prices to reflect increasing costs. The average increase is 4.84%, although there was a wide variation of predicted rises from 0%-15%.
However, the professional service provided by a contractor remains a high priority, ensuring customers can be confident their assets are protected, whether that is cropping, livestock, soil or the environment. This comes at a price, and 2026 rates have generally increased to take account of inflation and employment costs. Transparent, wellcalculated costs on both sides will help maintain strong partnerships and ensure both parties benefit.’
The survey is intended as a guide only, based on responses from NAAC members. Actual charges may vary considerably depending on region, soil type, distance travelled, size of contract, type of equipment used, and amount of product applied. Contractors may also have individual arrangements with customers regarding fuel (for example, a separate fuel surcharge, or fuel provided on-farm).
NEW COMFORT FEATURES, GREATER AUTOMATION AND FURTHER OPTIMISATION OF OPERATING COSTS
Claas is enhancing driver comfort and reducing driver workload on the Xerion 12 large tractors with a range of technical innovations.
The focus is on further optimising power train management, the introduction from the second half of 2026 of the Vehicle Control Unit from system partner AgXeed for driver-monitored Autonomy, even simpler operation and maintenance, and even greater comfort in the cab. In addition, the Terra Trac crawler track units have been further optimised for service life and operating costs.
With optimisations to the power train, the cab and the Terra Trac tracks, driving
comfort, the level of automation and ease of maintenance on the Xerion 12 have been further enhanced – whilst reducing total costs.
AUTODROOP AND MORE RESPONSIVE VEHICLE DRIVE CONTROLLER FOR THE CMATIC POWER TRAIN
To ensure an optimal balance between maximum power and operational efficiency at all times, particularly with frequently changing drivers and the use of seasonal staff, the Xerion 12 now features a third mode for engine droop alongside ECO mode and POWER. Autodroop automatically and adaptively adjusts the droop to the condition of use.
In addition, the vehicle drive controller for the continuously variable, power-split Cmatic gearbox has been further improved to deliver even better responsiveness in operating conditions with highly variable load profiles. Particularly during abrupt, heavy load changes in tillage and sowing, as well as when engaging implements at the headland to enter the next track, the continuously variable transmission reacts even more dynamically and accelerates more quickly to the target speed. The most powerful four-wheel drive tractor with a continuously variable transmission on the market further increases area output whilst maintaining unrivalled efficiency.
IMPROVED SELF‑CLEANING PROPERTIES AND REINFORCED SUPPORT ROLLER UNIT
The Terra Trac tracks for the Xerion 12, developed and built by Claas Industrietechnik in Paderborn, will undergo detailed revisions for the 2026 season, which will significantly reduce operating costs once again. Particular emphasis has been placed on optimised dirt management to ensure the longest possible service life for the rollers and track belts. The cast frame has been completely redesigned and, thanks to greater distance between the components, now features further improved self-cleaning properties, meaning that scrapers are no longer required at all. Further developed scrapers can be retrofitted to Xerion 12 Terra Trac units already on the market.
In addition, the aluminium spokes and outer rings of the yoke-type track rollers have been reinforced to optimise their service life – as have the bogie tilting frame and the mounting on the cast frame, including the bearing unit.
FROM ELECTRIC BONNET TO LUXURY DRIVER’S SEAT
In the cab of the Xerion 12 – the largest and quietest in the premium segment of this power class – the compressed air connection is now integrated as standard. A blow gun with a 2m spiralled hose can be supplied as an option to quickly and easily clean controls and the cab floor of dust and dirt. Two further compressed air connections for external cleaning are already located at the front and rear of the machine.
As before, the seat can be swivelled up to 40 degrees to the right and 10 degrees to the left, allowing the driver to adopt a relaxed posture whilst working and making it easier to get in and out of the cab.
From model year 2026 onwards, the cab will also feature a 6.75-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a DAB+ radio receiver and Bluetooth.
To simplify maintenance, the bonnet has featured an electric opening and closing mechanism since April 2025, which can be conveniently activated from the ground at
the touch of a button. Non-slip steps on the front wings and a redesigned platform allow easy access to the air filter and make cleaning the windscreen a breeze.
DRIVER‑MONITORED AUTONOMY
With the Xerion 12, farmers have the opportunity to integrate even more comprehensive process automation into their operations, just as with the new Axion 9 Cmatic. With the solution offered on Claas machines from mid 2026, work processes can be carried out in an even more defined and controlled manner whilst significantly reducing the driver’s workload, as the farmer receives the work result they planned in advance. Furthermore, this enables farmers to prepare their operations over the coming years for a future of driverless, exclusively remote monitored process autonomy, provided that the specific national regulatory framework permits this and the farmer plans for corresponding operational development.
A Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), developed in collaboration with AgXeed and available from mid 2026, enables pre-programmed work orders to be executed automatically under driver supervision. The VCU, which is controlled via the TIM (Tractor Implement Management) protocol, is simply connected to the Xerion 12’s ISOBUS. Via the AgXeed TraXwise platform, work orders containing field and machine data, marked obstacles and track planning can be easily imported
from Claas connect to TraXwise via cloudto-cloud with just a few mouse clicks. Field boundaries can already be transferred from Claas connect to TraXwise today. Work orders then appear in TraXwise on the tablet in the tractor cab – where they can be started with just a single tap. The tractor and implement then carry out the field work automatically: Day and night, including automated steering and turning, avoiding stationary (i.e., stored) obstacles, headland management and site-specific rate control for application equipment via the application map entered in Claas connect. When using the VCU, the driver remains in the cab at all times, but can concentrate fully on monitoring the quality of work and the optimal performance of the tractor and implement. Furthermore, they can override active work orders at any time – for example, in the event of unforeseen obstacles such as areas of the field that are moist and impassable, fallen branches at the edge of the field or previously unmarked field stones.
AUTOMATIC A B LINE CHANGE WITH AUTO REFLINE
In the GPS Pilot Cemis 1200 steering system, the adjustment of reference tracks in the field is now automated. The Auto RefLine function detects when, after completing work in the main direction of a field, it is time to work the headland or a wedge, and switches to the appropriate new, logical reference track.
INSTANT ACCESS TO PARTS SUPPLIER’S ONLINE STORE
In a significant move, the leading spare parts supplier, Kramp, is partnering with its dealers to launch a Kramp webshop that will supply its customers with everything a farmer needs. It will allow instant account creation and direct card payments for any business for its online assortment, backed by next-day delivery directly from Kramp, all tied in with the customer’s preferred local supplier.
“We know that over 80% of people start the process of looking for spare parts online,” said Leo Copping, field sales manager for Kramp. “Traditionally, they would end up buying that part at their local dealer, but increasingly that purchase is happening online and outside of the agricultural industry. When that happens, there is no backup or technical support for that purchase.
“Kramp wanted to provide a platform where a farmer can still buy from their dealer whilst having all the benefits of the internet: stock availability, pricing and immediate dispatch from a UK warehouse direct to their address for delivery the following day.”
The firm has made two key changes to enable this. Firstly, accounts can be created instantly, whereas previously it would have taken a few days. When setting up the account, users can select their local participating Kramp dealer to affiliate their account with.
The ability to pay with a card facilitates this, added Leo. Although the affiliated dealer can place the customer on an account if everyone agrees. “This builds the relationship with the local dealer,” he said.
Following a successful pilot programme running for several months, there is already a wide selection of dealers signed up to
the programme for a farmer to choose from, including many OEM dealers and longstanding independent businesses. It provides full UK coverage and allows farmers to choose between delivery or click-andcollect from their dealer’s store.
“We believe the benefits Kramp’s webshop offers, together with its dealers, can’t be matched by the global e-commerce giants, which only stock about 20% of Kramp’s assortment. What we have created with our dealers, offers the convenience they provide, but with the relationships and service levels we have always delivered. We have people you can speak to for help or a local depot you can visit.
“Our dealer inclusive e-commerce model is unique. It accounts for the entire supply chain, working towards solving the problem of quickly getting the right part to a business that needs it,” concluded Leo.

As temperatures rise, shearing sheep becomes a priority. But when dusting off your handpiece, what do you need to consider before shearing your first sheep? tips from
The following are tips from Heiniger’s, Hefin Rowlands:“There is no substitute for good maintenance when it comes to a shearing handpiece. Checking combs, cutters, greasing, oiling and tensioning are all vital to making sure you get a close, clean cut,” said Hefin.
1. CHECKING
“After last year’s hard work, your handpiece is likely to need a thorough check over. Start with the chicken feet at the top and make sure these are loose and free moving. Take the tension knob off and make sure the sliding sleeve is also free moving. Take out the fork body and give it a good clean before greasing the tension pin cup and fulcrum cup. However, beware not to change the fulcrum post height. This should be left in its factory position”.
2. CLEANING
“Some parts of a handpiece can be cleaned with just hot water. Make sure to channel water down the barrel of the handpiece so that water doesn’t get into the bearings. There are two bearings at the back of most handpieces, and these are better cleaned with an airline to blow out any dust and dirt. After this, a good regrease and oil will help to lubricate the moving parts.”
3. CUTTERS AND COMBS
“It goes without saying that any comb and cutter need to be sharp. Heiniger offers free shipping for routine maintenance and we have a UK based facility to resharpen combs and cutters. IMPROVE TEMPERATURE CONTROL AND PERFORMANCE
Livestock housing solutions specialist, Galebreaker, has launched a new automated pen-level cover. The innovative Pig ThermoCover creates a more stable micro-climate throughout the full growing cycle and has been shown to improve feed conversion ratios (FCR).
The system uses automated precision control to open and close the breathable cover in response to changing external conditions, helping maintain optimum pen temperatures while preventing condensation and humid air build-up.
Trial results have shown an average pen temperature increase of more than 2°C when the cover is deployed. During a winter batch, Pig ThermoCover delivered a 1.7% improvement in FCR across the whole batch, rising to a 4% improvement during the finishing-to-marketing stage.
Galebreaker’s Technical Director, Andrew Gardner said the Pig ThermoCover offers producers significant benefits. “Maintaining the right environment in pig housing is increasingly important, particularly during colder weather when producers need to balance warmth, ventilation, animal welfare and operating costs.
“Pig ThermoCover has been developed to deliver practical, automated control at pen level, helping create a more consistent microclimate while also reducing the labour involved in routine bedding and cleaning tasks.”
Designed with daily practicality in mind, the motorised opening function allows workers access from either edge, making re-bedding from a gantry or pen-level cleaning quicker and easier.
Trials demonstrated an approximate 20% reduction in daily labour required for cleaning out and re-bedding.
Compared to traditional breathable fabric membrane covers which are frequently disposed of once pigs become large enough to pull them into the pen, Pig ThermoCover remains in place for the full batch.
This allows producers to benefit from improved heat retention across all growth stages, including the finishing and marketing phase when pigs are gradually removed from buildings or groups.
Made from semi-transparent fabric, Pig ThermoCover allows natural light into the pen, while its cleanable and reusable design removes the need to replace fabric covers for every batch.
Factoring in both labour and feed conversion savings, trial data indicates a conservative return on investment of 3.2 years. Pig ThermoCover joins Galebreaker’s wide range of pig housing solutions, including VVS ventilation systems, Agridoor and VentLogic controls, all designed to support better air quality, temperature management and working conditions in modern pig production.
FULL REMAPPING OFFERING
Cereals 2026 provides an ideal platform for Avon Tuning HD (ATHD), and automotive division Avon Tuning, to further highlight the performance benefits and potential fuel savings of remapping agricultural machinery, cars, trucks and vans.
The large stand at Cereals will feature Avon Tuning HD’s remapped New Holland T5 tractor, which is used for training new and existing agents on remapping agricultural machinery, along with a selection of vehicles remapped by the automotive team. These include a modified BMW M3, along with some of the latest generation of Land Rovers – Defender, Discovery and Range Rover – that can now be remapped by the Avon Tuning engineers.
Gareth Jones, director of both divisions,
said the show represents a chance for our full skill set to be shown. “The ECUs on the latest generation Land Rover models have just been cracked so we’re carrying out extensive research and developing maps on these vehicles as we speak. These models are
popular in the agricultural world and spend a lot of time towing trailers. If we can apply a new map to these vehicles that provides greater performance and efficiency when towing, then this will be of great benefit to farmers and growers.”
WHAT’S NEW
WORLD RECORD BEATING JAGUAR 1000
Making its UK working debut at this year’s ScotGrass event was the world record beating Jaguar 1000 series forage harvester. Also joining it on display was the new generation Claas Axion 9 TT Cmatic that was launched to much acclaim at Agritechnica and named as this year’s ‘Tractor of the Year’ in the high horsepower category, plus the all-new Arion 6.190 Cmatic.
As if these headline new models were not enough, Claas also had on display other recent additions to the Claas product range including the latest Rollant 630 RC and Cerex 700 RC round balers, plus the latest Disco Contour mowers.
AWARD WINNING JAGUAR 1000
The Claas forager displays always attract a large crowd, and on display were models from the Jaguar 800, 900 and the new 1000 series ranges. With power outputs ranging
from 850 to 1,110hp, the new Jaguar 1000 is all about high output forage harvesting and has the capacity to harvest up to 480 tonnes per hour. This was amply demonstrated when in the Autumn a Jaguar 1200 smashed the world forage harvesting record, harvesting 4,096 tonnes of whole crop wheat in 12 hours – more than double the previous record. In addition, at last year’s Agritechnica show, the Jaguar 1200 was not only awarded a Silver Innovation award, but went on to be awarded a Farm Machine 2026 award, followed by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE) honouring it with one of their AE 50 awards.
At 910mm wide, the crop flow channel through the Jaguar 1000 is the widest on the market. This, combined with a new hydraulic pre-compression system, ensures a smooth flow of material into the V-Flex chopping cylinder in which the blades are angled at 10 degrees for a consistent chop quality. To
handle the greater crop flow, the Jaguar 1000 also features an updated accelerator that can be hydraulically adjusted.
To help operators get the most out of their machine, the Jaguar 1000 is also fitted with Cemos Auto Crop Flow and Cemos Auto Performance, plus Auto Fill for automatic control of the chute and end-flap.
MARKET LEADING CAB COMFORT
The launch of the new Axon 9 Terra Trac series tractor marks a completely new era in Claas tractor design and sets new standards for high horsepower tractors, not least with its cab but also in terms of its ability to deliver maximum performance even more efficiently and economically.
The new KO9 cab takes cab design to a completely new level and at just 66 db(A), it is also one of the quietest on the market while the high quality materials and surfaces, combined with premium driver’s
seats all contribute to high levels of comfort over long working days.
Other new features include Cemos Auto Droop, whereby the engine droop is automatically adjusted relative to the current task and the power required. In addition, the new award-winning groundbreaking Auto Load Anticipation function in the Cmatic drive detects load jumps – such as when lowering an attachment into the ground – in advance and proactively increases the engine speed before the load jump occurs. This keeps driving behaviour stable even during dynamic changes and prevents speed drops. Other functions regulate engine speed and transmission ratio depending on load, driving speed and hydraulic requirements. This ensures that the required power is provided under all conditions of use with minimum fuel consumption.
In addition, the Axion 9 also sets new standards when it comes to operating cost, thanks to a 50% reduction in service time, extended engine service intervals of 750 hours, while the oil change interval for the Cmatic gearbox is now 1,500 hours, and up to eight years warranty.
CEREX 700 RC –EFFICIENCY REDEFINED
Capable of delivering up to 60 high density bales an hour, the new Cerex 700 RC features a heavy-duty frame, reinforced bearings and a split HD drive that can handle up to 216hp at 1000 rpm with bale diameters ranging from 0.90m up to 1.60m.
From the HD Multiflow pick-up, a spiral rotor feeds the crop into the well proven Pro chopping unit, fitted with 25 blades that can be electro-hydraulically selected in groups of 25, 13, 12 or 0. The Cerex 700 RC’s new chamber has just two endless HD belts with continuous cleaning and a robust hydraulic system with a new clamping arm cylinder for maximum baling force. As a result, the Cerex 700 RC achieves bale densities of over 135 kg/m³ – an absolute best in its class. The new HD belts are extremely dimensionally stable and designed for a long service life even under maximum load.
The Cerex 700 RC also sets new standards with its tying system where a hydraulic net brake ensures optimum net tension at all times, saving up to 15% material, while the ‘Duckbill’ shaped feeding system ensures that the net can be inserted quickly and precisely thanks to its pre-positioning.
HIGH DENSITY ROLLANT 630
With a chamber diameter of 1.25m and a 25-knife cutting rotor, the Rollant 630 RC offers more power, greater operator comfort, lower operating costs and optimised ease of maintenance in drive areas subject to particular stress.
Fitted with the latest Multiflow HD pickup, the crop is transferred to the chamber via the well proven Roto Cut chopping system, that is quickly and easily cleaned by just releasing the springs, which allows the knives to swivel downwards so debris drops away.
The Rollant 630 RC uses reinforced chain drives with longer, stronger links and 14% larger gears for reduced stress. The 16 high-load rollers in the chamber are built for continuous high bale density and the tailgate uses a hardened steel suspension for long life.
Forage Quick Scan provides forage analysis results in just three working days
QUICK WAY TO TEST EQUINE FORAGE
A new quick way to analyse forage for horses has been launched by Thunderbrook, in association with Eurofins Agro. Forage Quick Scan will provide forage analysis results in just three working days using dry NIRS testing provided by Eurofins Agro’s laboratories.
“Forage consists of between 80% and 100% of a horse’s diet. It supports digestive health, natural behaviour, and overall wellbeing but it is often fed with little understanding for its nutritional values,” said Thunderbrook’s Rob Krabbenborg. Forage value is affected by factors including soil quality, plant diversity, stage of maturity at harvest, weather conditions and storage. With so many variables it is understandable that no two bales are the
same and can vary dramatically in levels of energy, sugar, protein and minerals.
“Analysis is crucial to understanding what is being fed out. Horses are designed to consume fibre little and often, with a digestive system that relies on a steady intake of forage to function effectively. Forage also contributes significantly to the intake of sugar, energy and essential nutrients. If these elements are out of balance, the effects may be subtle at first, but over time can influence weight, behaviour, hoof quality and metabolic health,” he advised.
Mr Krabbenborg points to the need to control sugar and starch intake, suggesting that both should be kept below 10% and that this can only be ascertained through accurate and regular testing.
“Eurofins Agro provides very fast but, more importantly, very accurate results that are easy to interpret and action. Understanding the nutritional composition of forage allows for a far more precise and thoughtful approach to feeding. Rather than adding supplements or balancers as a precaution, decisions can be made based on actual requirements,” he said.
The test results are accompanied by practical feeding guidance to help make the data more useable and relevant to owners with a variety of experience levels.
“Horse owners need not be concerned that the data will be overwhelming. In fact, quite the opposite is the goal. The test results have been designed to make forage analysis easy to understand and, more importantly, easy to action,” he concluded.
