There may well be a fair number of Kverneland Exacta fertiliser spreaders on the used market, the more so if you also consider their Vicon RotaFlow siblings as an alternative buy. Exacta Geospread variants, that offer considerably enhanced features when compared to the ‘mechanical’ Exacta, arrived from around 2011 and it is now these models that are the most sought after as a used buy.

Geospread, TL Geospread and TLX Geospread. Spread widths vary according to model, the range covering 9.0m to 54.0m (see model table). The twin-disc spreading systems are fitted with six or eight vanes, with a choice of vane to suit selected spread width and/or application rate.

The Geospread control element has evolved. A key consideration is how the available ISOBUS you have on a tractor will interface with a used buy or whether the spreader comes with its own dedicated controller.

The model table will broadly determine core basics to include hopper capacity, hopper width and spread width. You will need to delve deeper to work out the other features a given spreader will offer. What follows is a guide based around the current Kverneland Exacta range but will be broadly applicable to models made from around 2015.

The pto slip clutch liable to seize. Routine lubrication of the pto with copper grease will help prevent the shaft sticking. If hard to split, a rigid shaft can lead to damage to the gearbox input shaft and seal. Look for oil leaks. The pto speed sensor should detect movement if the pto is turned by hand.

GEOSPREAD

The spreader element of Geospread models is not complex in mechanical terms and follows same core design as mechanical Exacta models; material from the hopper drops into the centre of the discs, centrifugal force distributing it. Simple. It is of course more involved than this, but the basics are the same across all models.

is achieved by employing two pairs of actuators working the mechanical control levers linked to the CentreFlow dosing units on each of the two discs. The first actuator determines where the fertiliser is dropped onto the disc, this in turn setting the distribution width. The second actuator controls the rate of material flow and thus the application rate.

The Geospread system employs essentially the same dosing cup design as on a manually controlled spreader, the electrically controlled actuators moving the application rate and width adjusters ‘on the fly’. There is no need to change or move the disc vanes to alter the application rate or spread width either. >>

GOOD TO KNOW…

• Think of an extension adding one 600kg bag of extra capacity. A 2,100 litre hopper is good for three bags, 2,800 for four etc. Maximum 3,900 litres of a TL spreader is good for six bags with ‘half a bag’ spare

• Geospread models are easier to calibrate and will operate through an ISObus controller

• A dedicated Kverneland Tellus control comes in different variants. Do not assume it will be suitable for section control

• Use the Kverneland ‘phone app rather than printed material to set up spreader as it will benefit from frequent updates

• Standard and high lift spreader vanes will determine maximum spread width

The hopper canopy is designed to contain material and keep down dust, not to provide full weather protection. Raised section at the front can help bring light into the hopper to make it easier to see content level via the hopper viewing ‘windows. New covers can be fitted if original damaged.

Standard hopper screens secured by plastic latch that can snap. Hopper paint typically hangs on well but check seams for corrosion.

WHAT’S USED

Over the years, the design of the important mudguards has altered, with ‘home-made’ rubber flaps a likely find on older machines. Needed to prevent mud getting flicked onto spreading discs.

With reference to the degree of automated control, this is governed by the spreader’s controller and management software. What’s more, the precise control of the actuators, and individual disc speeds, can be used to deliver a level of section control with the right controller set up. (Claimed to be down to around 1.0m).

When set up, a Geospread can ‘mimic’ sprayer section shut down to reduce overlapping and improve accuracy when treating irregularly shaped fields. In profi tests we found spreaders offering fertiliser section control work well, with potential savings in fertiliser cost.

NOTE: It is not possible to upgrade a manual

The dosing cup drive rotates inside the shaft powering the hopper agitator and both need a routine shot of grease. The grease nipples are a bit of a fiddle to get at, so this maintenance job can get missed. If you turn the disc a few times the grease nipples will align.

spreader to Geospread specifications. An existing Geospread spreader may have its feature set improved if the tractors ISOBUS system of dedicated controller allows this but seek advice before making assumptions.

HIGH OUTPUT

Kverneland launched the high capacity TLX Geospread in 2017. Targeting potato growers, this model has the CentreFlow distribution enlarged to allow application rates of up 540kg/min at forward speeds of up 16km/hr at a 40m spread width. Other models are designed to spread up to 320kg/min as a maximum (see model table for other base outline specifications).

On mechanical Exacta models the disc drive shaft needs to be de-coupled for accurate calibration, this not being necessary on Geospread variants. The couplings are likely to seize together. Not a ‘problem’ but if the coupling does slide easily the spreader has had some love over the years.

CONTROLLERS

In outline, the interface with any ISOBUS compatible Exacta or Exacta Geospread spreader can be via a stand-alone ISOBUS terminal, an ISO-compatible terminal in the tractor or via a dedicated Kverneland controller. The latter include the original Tellus, IsoMatch Tellus Go, IsoMatch Tellus Pro and IsoMatch Tellus Pro+. The two latter units are more recent offerings and are less likely to be sold with a used spreader.

Dedicated Kverneland controllers will have been a cost option when new on ISOBUS spreaders, all spreaders of this type being compatible with tractor ISOBUS controller. As to dedicated controller pricing, used Tellus Go

The actuators on Geospread models can be easily carried out when hooked up to a powered Tellus controller or a tractor’s ISObus screen. The actuators are reliable but they do wear over time. Work them to full extension when running from the controller.

WHAT’S USED

Simple lever alters the hopper aperture to suit different fertiliser prill sizes. Remove the lever cover and look at the sliding plates, checking for corrosion.

head units may cost £2,000, a compatible GPS antenna adding perhaps £1,000. This paring will make it easier to exploit full Geospread features. If you want section control an unlock licence could cost around £2,000.

Clearly you need to have your wits about you when considering exploiting all the features a Geospread may be able to offer, so seek the advice of a Kverneland dealer who will also be the best source of more advanced spreader models. A point to note is that Geospread and ISO compatible Exacta spreaders made from around 2015 will allow the spreaders work record to be shown, to include area spread, hours worked and total weight of material applied.

QUICK CHECKS

• Check pto shaft slides with sound safety covers.

• Gearbox oil level.

• LED speed sensor should light when pto turned by hand.

• Seized gearbox input shafts.

• Numbered load cells 1, 2, 3 and 4 on display should have readings in the low 500s. Lean on the hopper and the figures will increase and then return to previous figure.

• Hopper sight glasses let in light so you can see into the hopper from the tractor seat and check the level . These can get damaged.

• Grey plastic cover above the discs embossed letters from A to U with a lever handle above on mechanical Exacta spreaders. Scale indicates the position of the dosing cup. Controlled automatically Geospread models.

• Fine application lever changes from three to single outlet in hopper base. From inside the hopper check the slides move as they can seize.

Hopper windows allow light into the hopper, enabling operators to see the contents on both sides with the hopper lid closed. Hopper emptying chutes fit in place of the rear windows, stopping light getting in.

• Check the agitator turns when the pto is turned by hand.

• Drive shafts below the gearbox need to be removed for calibration on manual machines but remain in place on the automatic models. Check their condition and the rubber shock protection between the two stainless steel plates.

• Fertiliser from the hopper flows to the centre of the disc via CentreFlow spreading system. Two output shafts, one running inside the other, drive the disc and the other the agitator. These need greasing, but typically you can only spot one of the two, so one may get missed. Turn the disc and both will align. Often overlooked.

• Remove the bolt that attaches the actuator ram to the dosing cup and check the pin fixed to the main frame. Should moves freely from side to side. If seized can create resistance and prevent it from working correctly.

• Light surface stippling on the spreader vanes is normal, look more for wear on the outer and lower edges.

• ‘ExactLine’ border spreading device hydraulically lowered into work and lifted back up by pressure in an accumulator. A sensor on the terminal shows when it is the working position. Check the sensor is in place and not damaged.

MOST POPULAR MODELS

The current top selling model is the 2.84m wide hopper Exacta TL Geospread 1850. Most will have the maximum of three hopper extension to boost its capacity to 3,900 litres. This ‘six bag’ capacity leaves around 500kg ‘spare’. The 2.69m wide hopper TL 1500 models are not much narrower in real terms but have regional following. The have a base 1,500 litre capacity, with alloy extensions available to boost capacity to a maximum of 3,450 litres.

Go back a decade, and the 2.14m wide hopper Exacta CL 1100 load cell ,mechanical’ models were popular, extension bosting capacity to up to 2,000 litres of ‘three-bags’. Exacta CL 1300 Geospread models were also popular, these having a wider 2.39m hopper and a capacity of up to 2,800 litres, these ‘four-bag’ models again having ‘spare’ 400kg capacity as a useful buffer.

Kverneland changed the design of the actuators, the earlier type (left) remaining available as spares. The designs are not interchangeable although a swap to a complete new set may be possible if they all need renewing. Inset shows nipples on the end of the actuator, regular shots of copper grease serving as much to drive out moisture as provide lubrication.

KEY CHECKS

Specification wise, stick to your ‘must have’ features. Regarding hopper capacities, remember that extensions can be fitted or removed, but this is perhaps the only easy spec change you can make.

NOTE: The maximum hopper capacities listed in the spec tables should not be exceeded, even if fitting an extra hopper extension is temptingly easy.

Next, condition. Fertiliser spreaders will only last as well as they are cared for, a preliminary quick look typically proving enough to get an idea if it is worth taking a closer look and delving deeper. A non-dealer buy may be fine but it is down to you to check everything. A Geospread model needs to be connected to either a tractor’s ISOBUS monitor or to a dedicated Kverneland controller to allow full checks to be made.

You can spot obvious corrosion but take time to inspect hopper seams and detail corrosion to actuators and rams. The latter have grease points to help keep the seals in good order and seal out moisture. Take a close look at the discs. There should be no noticeable play when rotating the discs by hand and they should turn smoothly. The lube points at the centre of the disc needs grease, so check for signs of recent attention. The discs are driven from the input gearbox via a shaft connected by a sliding collar accessed via a couple of plastic flaps in the lower frame. Check for corrosion and see if the coupling collars slide apart . On mechanical spreaders this is required as part of the calibration process but this is often not done and the couplings are left as is. Lubricated and clean couplings suggest diligent maintenance.

Four five-tonne capacity load cells support the hopper in the frame. It is rare for these items to give trouble, but still check (see controller pics). Central compensation load cell is equally robust.

Standard and high lift vanes are available, the latter helping to achieve an even spread of materials such as urea. The high capacity TLX spreader is fitted with much wider vanes to deliver high rates (left unit, left hand pic). Vane sets are easy to swap over. If the vanes are secured by an ‘R’ clip the spreader was made prior to 2010.

The stainless disc vanes are wearing items and should be replaced if you can pick up a stipple wear pattern on the working face or they are showing signs on thinning at the tips. A complete vane set retails from around £750. If the vanes are secured by an ‘R’ clip, the spreader was made prior to 2010, subsequent models using nuts and bolts (the data tag on the front nearside frame will show date of manufacture and model year).

A silicone rubber gasket seals between the hopper and discs. As the seal ages it can crack so check it both from within the hopper where the stainless outlet and painted hopper meet and from the underside adjacent to the main rate adjustment levers. A new seal will cost under £70 and can take two to three hours to renew. It is best to renew both seals at the same time.

Work the hopper openings from fully open to closed via the levers or actuators as applicable. The actuators clearly need a check, but to do this properly the spreader needs to be hooked up to a controller. If an ISOBUS spreader does not have a dedicated control box it can be connected directly to a compatible tractor terminal to do the checks. The simplest will be to try to enter calibration settings, this typically showing up any faults with a load cell or the reference cell.

Load cell EW spreaders and more advanced models in general are not known for common electrical problems but can suffer if the spreader has been stored outside or even if

just left out in the rain for an extended period. Check the main electronic control box on the spreader itself. This is covered by a stainlesssteel plate that will protect the box from damage but not water. >>

No matter how clever a modern spreader control system is, the basic need to check the quality of the material to be spread remains. Transparent ‘shaker’ box us used to determine the mix of ‘grain’ size, this having a big impact upon the spread pattern. Scales and volume tube used to match weight to flow rate.

WHAT’S USED

BORDER SPREADING

A used buy will have the border spreading kit its was supplied with fitted, Kverneland offering a range of systems as outlined below.

• Tramline cylinder: Hydraulic ram tilts the spreader to halve the working width to allow spreading to a border, such as from a tramline

• Border spreading plate: Offered as a manually or hydraulically raised plate to deflect material away from the border of a field

• ExactLine: Can fit on both left and right of spreader. More advanced than systems above

• One-sided border: Allows operator to drive around 2.0m from border with even spread up to the edge with minimised overlap. Can be set to prevent spreading into adjacent watercourse

• Border track spreading: The preferred system for working to tramlines

In practice, the most likely system will be a border spreading plate, the design of this having evolved to improve the accuracy and the spread pattern on the restricted offside. Hydraulic lift is nice to have but it offers no advantage in terms of performance over the mechanically raised and lowered alternative.

ISObus touch screen makes setting up a Geospread model a lot easier than a fully mechanical Exacta. When looking over a used Geospread it is important to hook it up to a display, be this a dedicated Kverneland Tellus controller or a tractor’s screen. You can work the adjustment actuators to ensure they function correctly.

If possible, take the cover off and check over plastic box underneath. If it and surrounding cabling is filthy and damp the circuit board inside may have got wet and have corroded (rare).

There are two input shafts on the disc drive gearbox, a swap between them changing between high and lower disc speeds. Worth seeing if they can be swapped easily. Inspect the main pto shaft. If it does not slide freely,

ISObus controllers can be used to access the spreader’s diagnostic menu. Check loadcells readings are in the low 500s. Hours worked, the total weight of fertiliser applied and the area the spreader has covered are also shown.

it will need attention. If it is rigid, then look over the input gearbox shaft and seal. If the latter shows signs of a leak, attention will be needed. Also check the gearbox oil level as this is often neglected. Other checks are shown in the pictures and captions.

SUMMARY

A corroded spreader can work fine but it will never stop rotting once the rust sets in. Condition first in other words, regardless of spec. You can spot a well-cared for machine, with clear signs of regular greasing, cleaning and preventive measures against corrosion such as diesel having been poured into the dosing cup during storage.

Getting to grips with the spreader’s operation is eased on Geospread models, the spreading charts and settings offered by the Kverneland mobile ‘phone apps making life a lot easier. Most dealers will suggest you use the app and disregard printed materials as the latter are only up to date when printed. The app is constantly updated. LOAD CELL MODELS

Kverneland Exacta-W Pro ‘electronic weigh’ models are fitted with single 10.0t reference sensor and four 5.0t capacity load cells, with just the latter on ‘base’ EW models. Vicon equivalents are the RotaFlow RO-EDW and RO-M EW.

Kverneland ISObus Exacta-W Pro models are a step up from the original EW models, these mechanical variants remaining relatively easy to set up and calibrate. Automatic adjustment of the application rate in relation to forward speed, plus adjustment to match the flow characteristics of the applied material, are key features. The reference cell compensates for load shifts when working on slopes, making these a popular choice for those working in hilly terrain.

With approaching 70 tractors on offer at the latest Euro Auctions sale in late October, there was certainly a lot to keep the prospective bidders interested. The selection on offer encompassed those that were only a few of years old and ready for work, to those from an earlier age that were probably in need of preservation. The condition of the machines varied too, with some requiring a lot of work, or to be used for spare parts.

As it turned out, the most expensive piece of equipment in this part of the auction was a 2023 Chafer Interceptor self-propelled sprayer that was in excellent condition overall, sold for £57,500. Also on offer before attention switched to the general tractors was a tidy Marooka MK-160 crawler tractor with 4081 hours on the clock, which sold for £10,250. When it came to the tractors themselves, the John Deere name was certainly prominent. Here a 6215R from 2018 John Deere 6215R came out on top when it sold for £41,000, while a 6155R from 2017 with 13367 hours behind it went on to sell for £32,500, all grade 10 condition.

There were also some Massey Fergusons that caught the eye. Here a 7624 from 2015 which was showing 6686 hours on the clock

The most expensive Massey Ferguson in the sale was this 7624 fourwheel drive from 2015 that had 6686 hours on the clock. It went on to sell for £35,000

sold for £35,000, while from the same year came a 7618 in equally tidy condition and that made £29,500.

The New Holland name was also popular among the bidders with a T836 T7.170 from 2013 with 7272 hours behind it selling for £34,000, with the same price being achieved by a T6.165 that had 1820 hours on the clock.

Moving on, a large selection of JCB Fastrac 3230s were on offer. The most expensive dating from 2014. It was showing 6186 hours on the clock and sold for £30,000, while the cheapest 3230 dated from 2011 and sold for £16,000.

Also of note was a 2015 Valtra T174 with 6859 hours behind it which sold for £28,000, while in great shape was a 2006 Same Iron 110 that was fitted with a Stoll CL955 front loader and weights. With only 3598 hours on the clock, it went on to sell for £21,000. Also in good condition was a 2007 Claas Ares 577 ATZ that had 8350 working hours. Again, in good condition, it went on to sell for £13,750 while a 2015 McCormick X7.660 with 4964 hours behind it made £18,000.

The most expensive John Deere in the sale was this 6215R four-wheel drive from 2018 that was showing 10607 hours on the clock. In very good condition, it sold for £41,000

There were some older tractors worthy of note on offer too including some Massey Ferguson four-wheel drives. Here an undated Massey Ferguson 5460 with 2722 hours on the clock, which was in very good condition sold for £15,000. Also looking the part a pair of MF 4255s achieved £14,000 each, while also on offer was a 1995 Massey Ferguson 399 that was showing 5423 hours behind it which sold for £13,500 again grade 10.

Also standing out were a trio of Ford tractors. These included an 8630 that dated from 1991 which was in very good condition and certainly caught the attention of the bidders. That sold for £9,000; while in equally good condition, including an undated 6610 with 3212 hours on the clock made £7,500 as did a 5610 with 6032 hours behind it.

And finally, the cheapest tractor in the sale was an undated International B414 two-wheel drive that was in good condition and sold for only £1,750. In true Euro Auctions tradition, this sale brought a varied selection of tractors onto the selling ramp, with some bargains to be had.

This 2013 New Holland T7.170 four-wheel drive did well in the sale. Complete with front linkage & pto and showing 7272 hours on the clock, it sold for £34,000

STEPHEN TESTER 1980-2025

It is with great sadness I report the passing of a very fine person who everyone just got on so well with, Stephen Tester from Crowborough, East Sussex. He first stood on a tractor when he was ten years old and encouraged by his family he went on to own a fine collection of Ford’s, County’s, Roadless and even Field Marshall.

He loved taking part in tractor road runs and joined in the National in 2024. Sales were a key thing with him and he was a regular at the three Cheffins Vintage Collectives for many years, bringing back spares and several tractors. The vintage scene was his life and the last event he attended was on Sunday 27 July at the Bromley Pageant of Motoring, South of England Showground, Ardingly where the South Eastern Vintage Agricultural Club looked after the tractor section at this show. In memory of Stephen on Sunday 2 November over 50 tractors gathered together at The Warren, Crowborough before taking to the roads on their way to The Huntsman, Groombridge Lane, Eridge. nearly three hours to get to this destination in improved weather conditions after a wet start which didn’t deter anyone from coming and taking part. At the time of writing £3,500 has been raised for Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team and BEN Support for Life.

Stephen’s family explained that they have been overwhelmed with the response to the road run and the generosity of everybody and they would like to thank all of the people who helped make the day happen. From organising the starting point to making signs to marshalling as everyone really came together to help and support.

Thanks must also go to those who donated raffle prizes and especially to everyone that bought tickets. It was heart warming to see all the people lined along the route to see the tractors go past and of course the tractor drivers supporting it.

ASHLEY BOYLES SHOWS HIS CLASS

Britain’s top plough men and women gathered in the West Midlands for the 74th British National Ploughing Championships on 11-12 October, held near Allesley, Coventry, West Midlands by kind permission of the Brandreth family and Sir Thomas White’s Charity. The event brought together over 230 competitors from across the country on some hilly and very uneven grassland.

Set with a backdrop of rolling fields, the event saw two days of spirited competition despite dull, but just about dry weather on the Saturday, but thick, patchy fog throughout the day on the Sunday. It certainly hindered competitors who were struggling to see their sighting poles to plough their opening furrow straight, nevertheless a good crowd came on both days to see the action.

You had to be good on this land as nothing was flat whatsoever, the coveted Supreme Champion title went to IHC collector Ashley Boyles from Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, using a fine Case IH CX90 tractor and Kverneland plough combination not seen by our reporter before.

forward to seeing what he can do at a World Championship which has eluded him so far in his ploughing career.

The four Vintage Plough-Off finals saw the four defending champions each retaining their respective titles. The Vintage Trailed final was won easily by John Crowder from Sturton-by-Stow, Lincolnshire using his hybrid Fordson N and Ransomes RLSD Major plough, scoring 272 points. David Wood from Coldstream, Berwickshire was a fabulous runner-up on 260 points and MF 35 – RSLD9 mounted as was former National British and European Champion John Milnes of South Yorkshire who finished third three points behind.

Richard Ingram from Atherstone, Warwickshire effortlessly regained the British Vintage Hydraulic title having been out of the top three on Saturday. Using his trusty Massey Ferguson 35 and Ransomes TS54, he finished with 269 points and a 26 point lead in front of Alex Evans from Carlisle, Cumbria using an International B275 with Ransomes Robin behind. Charlie Nicklin from Congleton, Cheshire was just four points behind in third place having won the qualifier on the Saturday with his MF35 and Ransomes TS54.

The British Classic Championship title was a repeat win for Jon Cole, from Whitchurch, Herefordshire, with 271 points using his famed Nuffield 10/42 and Ransomes TS86 plough. Ransomes TS86 behind.

The Classic Reversible final victory went to Graham Sutton, from Nuneaton, Warwickshire with 291 points, using his fine Massey Ferguson 65 and Ransomes TS82. Timothy Hurley from Bristol was nine points behind in second place and third place went to Neil Ramsay from Earlston, Berwickshire with his MF 65MKII and Ransomes TRS81.

Stephen Cheeseman, chairman of the Society of Ploughmen, commented: “The Championships were supported by ploughmen and women from all corners of the country. Our dedicated volunteers and supporters helped create another interesting event and we are incredibly grateful to the Brandreth family and Sir Thomas White’s Charity for allowing us to use such a fantastic site.”

The 75th British National Ploughing Championships will be celebrated on 10-11 October 2026 at Austrey, near Atherstone, Warwickshire, by kind permission of William Corbett Farms Ltd.

The preservation rally season came to a close at the just excellent Newark Vintage Tractor & Heritage Show over 8-9 November with an excellent footfall right across the Newark Showground with the best weather ever recorded for this show. The event will surely be remembered for the 100+ Caterpillars on site thanks to Tom Balls and his Antique Caterpillar Chapter Two members team. They really brought the Caterpillar centennial to a fitting climax here in the UK.

In the George Stephenson Building where the Kelsey Media stand was placed we enjoyed the 80 years of Field Marshall Series 1. Possibly the oldest continuous ownership here went to John Stephenson from East Yorkshire who in 1959 at the age of 11 purchased his Series 1 tractor which was up for sale at £60 with Charles Barrett’s family company who were Marshall and David

GREAT END TO SEASON

Brown dealers at Bainton near Driffield, East Yorkshire. The tractor had been brought in for a rebore which was done, but the farmer didn’t want it back as they had been loaned a David Brown with hydraulics, of course it was in a different league to the Marshall that was now for sale. To enable him to buy it John got £15 for his Standard N Fordson, he had saved up £10 in his kitty, and his mum came up with another £10 and father made up with rest which John had to pay back! Now that certainly is dedication and to still own it 66 years later is something else.

The three Ferguson Club class awards were well contested with Best Ferguson In Show going to Jonathan Haire and his concours style 1955 TE-T industrial in a green Ministry of Supply livery and included a genuine Ferguson crane and the correct sprung bumper which was in the FOFH area. There were crowds around this tractor all the time at the show.

The enthusiasm by everyone showed no bounds and there was a feeling that agricultural preservation was in safe hands at this season finale. Do note the 2026 date on your phone diary 7-8 November.

CHARITY TRACTOR GOES TO KENT

A fully restored 1963 Fordson Super Dexta tractor sold for an impressive £40,280 at the Cheffins Cambridge Vintage Sale on Saturday 18 October, with all proceeds donated to the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital. This is part of Cheffins’ 200-year anniversary celebrations, where the firm pledged to match the price the tractor made at the auction, bringing the total donation to £80,560. The funds will directly support the creation of a new playroom for children receiving treatment at the hospital. The tractor was bought by Nick Hedges

“This is the first vintage tractor that I have ever bought. I bought it for my grandson, who is coming up for two years old and is tractor mad. We found out about the tractor in April, and we are honoured to be a part of the cause. We have always been real fans of Cheffins, and I used to go to the tractor sales there as a child. Addenbrookes have treated a few members of our family, and we do have some connection with the hospital. The tractor is a real one off and it is such a great cause that we really wanted to be a part of.”

The Loadall 546-70 is capable of lifting up to 4.6 tonnes, an 8.7% or 400kg capacity boost over the current 542-70, and generates greater bucket/fork tear-out force – but with no increase in overall machine size to preserve easy and confident manoeuvrability within and around buildings.

The 546-70 will be available in three of JCB’s well-established performance and equipment packages – AGRI Super with 97kW (130hp), AGRI Xtra with 112kW (150hp) and top-spec AGRI Pro with 129kW (173hp).

The new JCB Loadall 555-70 provides even more of a performance boost, lifting 5.5 tonnes – almost 24% more than the 542-70 –and will come in AGRI Xtra and AGRI Pro forms.

JCB will supply all variants with 160 litre/ min load-sensing Smart Hydraulics and 40kph DualTech VT drive, this award-winning transmission having a combination of

hydrostatic and powershift elements with automatic, seamless transitions between the two according to ground speed.

The unique DualTech VT design provides hydrostatic precision and low-speed manoeuvring control when working in and around buildings, and direct-drive automatic powershift – there is no torque converter – for maximum tractive effort and power efficiency in fields and on the road.

AGRI Pro versions of the two new Loadall telehandlers will have the 50kph DualTech VT for time-saving journeys between yard and field, and to and from distant sets of buildings on larger farms and estates.

The faster road-speed potential can also help the AGRI Pro machines to more easily keep pace with contractor lime and muck spreading teams when moving from one location to another.

In addition to running in rear-wheel drive on the road for maximum acceleration and

towing traction, the AGRI Pro’s driveline automatically engages four-wheel drive when the brakes are applied to ensure the maximum tyre/surface contact patch for shortest stopping distances.

ICONIC JCB BACKHOE IN A BOX GOES SUPER-SIZE

Crowds are flocking to see a special 80th birthday installation at JCB’s lakeside HQ in Staffordshire – a full-sized digger presented as if it were a scale model.

Air trailer braking is a factory-installed option, along with JCB’s all-new IntelliAssist, a suite of automated boom and attachment controls, and other hydraulic functions designed to ease the operator’s workload, and the new IntelliWeigh integrated load weighing system.

JCB plans to offer AGRI Xtra and AGRI Pro versions of the Loadall 546-70 and 555-70 with Sway Control as an option, a machine levelling system that uses a double-acting hydraulic cylinder attached to the chassis and front axle. Controlled from the Command Plus cab, the system enables operators to adjust the machine to a safer vertical position on a crossslope or uneven surface to keep it stable when the boom is raised and extended.

Visitors young and old have been marvelling at the ingenious display which has an eighttonne JCB 3CX Sitemaster backhoe loader packaged in the style of the iconic 1:32 scale models loved by collectors worldwide.

The special ‘Backhoe in a Box’ has been unveiled as part of JCB’s 80th anniversary celebrations and will be on display beside the JCB lake at Rocester until January. It stands nearly 15 feet high by nearly 25 feet wide. It is also lit at night.

The exhibit also marks a milestone in JCB’s history: more than one million replica models of its machines have been produced under TOMY’s Britains brand, celebrating nearly 60 years of partnership between the two companies. Earlier this year, JCB also celebrated the production of its one millionth full-sized backhoe loader.

JCB Deputy Chairman George Bamford said: “Scale models of our iconic machines have been a part of the JCB family for as long as I can remember. The ‘Backhoe in a Box’ at JCB’s World HQ is an amazing tribute to our market-leading backhoe and is a truly spectacular sight.”

Trelleborg Tires successfully hosted the first-ever UK edition of its exclusive Tractor Driver of the Year competition on 16 October 2025 at Prestwold Hall, Leicestershire.

Talented tractor drivers from across the UK took part, competing in a series of hands-on challenges designed to test agility, accuracy, and control behind the wheel. The four challenges – hoisting, precision parking, manoeuvring, and reverse manoeuvring – pushed participants to demonstrate true tractor mastery on Valtra tractors fitted with Trelleborg Tires.

After a full day of competition, Mitchell Oldershaw was crowned Tractor Driver of the Year UK 2025, achieving an impressive total time of 8 minutes and 49 seconds. His performance earned him the title and the grand prize – the Everyman Racing Platinum Package.

Mitchell said: “A big thank you to everyone for organising such a great event. It’s been a fantastic day – I came for the fun and didn’t expect to win! I’m already looking forward to coming back next year to defend the title!”

NEW DUAL WHEEL SPACER BAND FOR MOVEERO PROFI GRIP RIMS

NEW SLURRY EQUIPMENT

Vogelsang has announced it will launch a new UniSpread model at LAMMA in January, alongside a new super-scale separator. The new 12-metre UniSpread will join the existing range to offer an additional one fifth working width. The new XSplit XS30-80 separator offers a throughput capacity of 175 cubic metres per hour.

“The new UniSpread is aimed at farmers and contractors who need a compact solution for spreading liquid manure close to roots. The linkage is available as a dribble bar and trailing shoe and features Vogelsang’s tried-and-tested folding mechanism behind the drum, making it an easy retrofit to any size of tanker,” explained Vogelsang’s Andy Hayhurst.

The trailing shoe model of the new 12-metre UniSpread will showcase the brand’s DoubleFlow trailing shoe design.

“DoubleFlow halves the row spacing from 25cm to 12.5cm to enable more slurry to be applied more accurately,” added Mr Hayhurst.

The new model features two side support wheels to ensure optimum guidance, and operators can specify an optional piping kit. The UniSpread also benefits from the long- established ExaCut precision distributor.

Vogelsang has developed and launched a range of XSplit separators in recent years. At entry level is the Compact which is capable of up to 10 cubic metres per hour and weighs just 875 kilos. At the other end of the scale, the new XS30-80 completes the range as the largest separator with a capacity of 175 cubic metres per hour.

“The XSplit XS30-80 is specially designed for use in large biogas plants and agricultural operations. As the largest model in its range, it offers users who need to separate large quantities of digestate or liquid manure a reliable and needs-based solution,” said Mr Hayhurst.

times than conventional screw press separators. The modular, threepart sieve enables just the worn part to be replaced and VarioAdjust, a hydraulic adjustment system, allows the contact pressure to be flexibly adjusted during operation to reduce wear and tear.

“There is now a separator in the range for every size of farming operation. Our specialists will be on hand at LAMMA to explain how the separators, pumps and applicators can help make slurry and digestate handling and application more efficient,” concluded Mr Hayhurst.

THE AODES WORKCROSS ARRIVES IN STYLE

As part of a new series, two Bitesize Guide publications – one on leadership in agriculture, the other about communicating with people outside of agriculture – have been launched by a partnership between the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust and the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE).

LEAF LAUNCHES VERSION 17.0 OF ITS GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE STANDARD

LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) has launched the latest version of its LEAF Marque Standard version 17.0, representing a significant evolution in the assurance of more sustainable farming. The update reaffirms LEAF’s commitment to providing a globally relevant and practical framework to build more resilient farming and food systems.

The comprehensive review was undertaken with extensive stakeholder engagement from leading farmers, academics, food retailers and producers world-wide. This was carried out alongside public consultations and overseen by the LEAF Marque Technical Advisory Committee. The Standard has been developed as a pragmatic model that can be applied on a wide range of farming systems globally in the context of a commercial operating model.

Over the past three years, LEAF Marque has expanded rapidly, from 922 certified businesses in 2022 (64% based in the UK) to 3,100 certified businesses across 55 countries today, including more than 500 Producer Groups. In response to the continued growth of LEAF Marque, the roll-out of version 17.0 is backed by a six-figure investment in new IT. The enhanced infrastructure will improve efficiencies, data collection and reporting, and governance oversight for both farmers and supply chain owners in partnership with Dutch Agri-IT specialists, Agriplace. Key updates include:

• Enhanced environmental focus – new requirements address vital sustainability challenges in agriculture including habitat area (5% minimum), soil health, regenerative farming, water management, GHG emissions, peat, livestock, and food waste.

• Global relevance – the updated Standard broadens its scope to better support diverse farming systems and geographies, including LEAF Marque’s growing network of international producers, currently located across 55 countries.

• Unique versatility – version 17.0 of the Standard incorporates Core and Advanced controls which enables greater flexibility for application through supply chains aligned to specific areas of environmental focus. This includes tailoring to reflect localised sustainability needs across the globe.

• Integration with the LEAF Sustainable Farming Review (LSFR) – the new version integrates more closely with the LSFR, offering a robust framework for continuous improvement on sustainability goals and ensuring producers are well-prepared for their LEAF Marque audit.

AUTONOMY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Claas once again showcased innovative process technologies at Agritechnica. In addition to the autonomous use of Torion wheel loaders in material handling and the AI-supported Weed Detector system for effective dock control, practical retrofit solutions for highly automated field cultivation were also presented.

TORION AUTONOMY CONNECT: THE FIRST AUTONOMOUS WHEEL LOADER FOR AGRICULTURE

Claas presented the first autonomous wheel loader for agricultural use at Agritechnica. The fully autonomous Torion Autonomy connect is revolutionising silage management in biogas plants and dairy farms.

In view of the increasing shortage of skilled labour, Claas offers an innovative solution with the fully autonomous Torion to handle repetitive and monotonous wheel loader tasks without an operator. Operators can pre-plan

the autonomous use of the machine via Claas connect, whereby the system works intuitively and requires only a few inputs for flexible work orders. Developed jointly with Liebherr, the Torion Autonomy connect uses LiDAR sensors to record its environment and automatically creates a digital twin of the work area to plan the work cycle. Separate surveying technology is not required. Thanks to advanced AI technology, route finding and material pick-up are fully automated using a so-called pile analysis, without the need to plan static routes in advance. As a result, Claas Autonomous Silage Management is able to choose the most efficient route for each journey.

The autonomous system carries out jobs independently, adapts to changes in the environment and does not require a GPS receiver, which makes it easy to use in buildings or under rows of trees. The Torion can be operated both fully autonomously and manually, which offers a high degree of flexibility for multifunctional applications.

WEED DETECTOR FOR SPOT APPLICATION

Together with Amazone, Claas has developed the Weed Detector, which enables effective, pinpoint dock control on grassland based on infestation maps. Until now, selective treatment of dock – the only measure permitted in some regions following the ban on area spraying – was only possible mechanically or with a complex and expensive spot application technique specialising in dock in working widths of up to 9 metres. As the extent of the infestation and the exact location of the target areas are not known with these methods, it is not possible to calculate the required application rate in advance or plan an efficient treatment route. In addition, the entire area must be travelled over, although often only partial areas are affected. A preliminary estimate of the resources required is possible by means of an additional, impractical work step using a drone assessment.

Weed Detector is a practical solution for detecting and localising harmful plants in grassland directly during mowing. AI-supported software recognises dock plants using two Claas Culti Cam cameras on the front mower. The detected dock leaves are immediately transmitted to Claas connect as geo-referenced target areas and created there as an infestation map . Data from several cutting edges can be taken into account and merged.

In the next step, this infestation map is transferred to myAMAZONE operations via the AgIN interface (AEF), i.e. cloud-tocloud. Depending on the existing spraying technology, the required application rates for the control measure are calculated in advance. Finally, the spot application map is transferred to the crop sprayer and the dock is selectively controlled with maximum efficiency.

DYNAMIC FIELD SCOUT

Dynamic Field Scout, developed in collaboration with Kiel University of Applied Sciences and AgXeed, demonstrates how automated field surveys using remote

sensing and RTK technology in conjunction with artificial intelligence are revolutionising precise field mapping. Based on optical area information, the system automatically creates exact field boundaries and uses AI-based image analysis to recognise obstacles such as trees or water holes, which are transferred directly to the Farm Management Information System (FMIS) and steering system in use. This creates up-to-date, precise route and lane planning for both autonomous and manned machines. A crucial building block for the agriculture of tomorrow.

DYNAMIC PROCESS CONTROL

Together with AgXeed and Amazone, Claas is presenting a visionary concept that combines autonomous field work – such as sowing – with digital logistics planning. The approach developed within the 3A Group stands for holistic automation of agricultural processes in which autonomous machines, implements and logistics systems are digitally networked with each other.

The aim is to plan, coordinate and dynamically control the entire process

chain – such as sowing, fertilisation or crop protection application – in advance, i.e. with continuous and automatic adaptation to variable influencing factors. This results in adaptive, just-in-time organised processes in which machines, operating resources and personnel are available exactly when and where they are needed. The core is interoperable communication between digital platforms such as Claas connect and myAMAZONE operations, which is standardised by the AEF Agricultural Interoperability Network (AgIN). The 3A Group's concept illustrates how autonomous and highly automated systems can be combined to create an efficient overall solution for operational processes.

NEW LAUNCHES ACROSS THE MF PORTFOLIO

Massey Ferguson will showcase the recently launched MF 8S Xtra, alongside the brand-new MF 5S with Dyna-VT transmission option, as part of a packed stand at LAMMA 2026.

The brand will return to the show for the third year running and, alongside the headline launches, the focus will also be on the compact MF 1M and MF 1700e models. These are not only suited to the smaller farming jobs but are popular machines in diversifications and associated industries, such as tourism, equine and amenity works. Both the recently launched MF 1M and the popular MF 1700e will highlight the options available to users, with a mid-mounted mower deck and scraper attached to the tractors on display.

MF will also display the popular MF 5S

range, which now has the Dyna-VT (DVT) continuously variable transmission option. Launched at Agritechnica in November, the MF 5S still has the Dyna-6 and Dyna-4 gearbox options but the DVT offers users the comfort and ease of use provided by a continuously variable transmission. Lindsay Haddon, Advertising and Sales Promotion Manager – Massey Ferguson UK, IRL and Middle East, said: “The DVT option has been a request from many MF 5S users, and we’re delighted to bring this to market at a crucial time for farmers and growers to improve efficiency and comfort of all operations.”

black coated wheel rims, athermic window tints to reflect the sun’s radiation away from the cab and the operator, smartphone armrest holder, and Focal speaker upgrade.

NEW GENERATION OF JOHN DEERE APPRENTICES GRADUATE

More than fifty apprentices have graduated from John Deere’s renowned Ag Tech, Turf Tech, and Parts Tech programmes, joining dealerships across the UK and Ireland as qualified technicians and parts specialists.

The graduates, trained in partnership with ProVQ at the John Deere Apprentice Training Centre in Upper Saxondale, Nottinghamshire, were recognised at a special ceremony celebrating their achievement and the ongoing success of one of the longest-running manufacturer apprenticeship schemes in the industry.

Jacob Ellwood from the Thomas Sherriff dealership was named Technician Apprentice of the Year for 2025, while Alex Hind from Farol won the Parts Apprentice of the Year award. Both received trophies and iPads to mark their success.

Now in its fourth decade, John Deere’s apprenticeship scheme continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of modern machinery dealerships. The programme equips students with a mix of technical, diagnostic, and digital skills, alongside customer service and communication training.

“Our apprenticeships continue to play a vital role in developing the next generation of talent for our dealer network,” said John Deere Training Centre Manager Allan

Cochran. “The industry is moving fast, with connected machines, advanced diagnostics, and precision technology becoming standard, so it is essential that our apprentices leave fully prepared for those challenges. Seeing them graduate and take their next steps with our dealers is hugely rewarding.”

Apprentices on the Ag Tech and Turf Tech courses work towards the Land-Based Service Engineering Technician Level 3 qualification, while those on the Parts Tech route complete a Level 3 parts diploma.

The expanded Parts Tech programme, introduced last year, now includes greater emphasis on technical knowledge and customer interaction in response to the growing importance of John Deere’s aftermarket and service support.

An apprenticeship programme is also available to those working in the construction industry with the John Deereowned Wirtgen Group.

Since its inception in 1992, the John Deere apprenticeship programme has supported well in excess of 1,200 young people to find skilled roles across the company’s worldwide dealership network. Recruitment for the next intake is now underway, offering school and college leavers the opportunity to build long-term careers in the agricultural and turf machinery industries.

AGRII TAKES DELIVERY OF ITS FIRST ALL-ELECTRIC MERCEDES-BENZ EACTROS 600

Agrii, one of the UK’s leading agricultural distributors, has taken delivery of its first all-electric heavy goods vehicle, the MercedesBenz eActros 600 LS ProCabin Stream 4x2, marking a major step in the company’s move towards lower-emission logistics.

Supplied by Midlands Truck & Van, the new eActros 600 – which combines zero-emissions operation with class-leading long-distance performance – is one of the first of its kind to enter service in the UK.

The vehicle was selected after an extensive evaluation programme, including trials under full load on Agrii’s regular routes. With its classleading range of over 500km, the eActros 600 was the only electric HGV capable of completing Agrii’s demanding 460km nightly round trip between its central distribution centre and network of depots on a single charge, with energy to spare.

Based on a typical annual mileage of 60,000km, the eActros 600 is expected to reduce Agrii’s carbon emissions by around 59 tonnes each year.

Richard Pinnock, Agrii’s National Distribution Manager, said: “It is almost unnatural to think a truck that size can be electric and achieve such a distance on one charge. Sustainability is an important issue for the agricultural sector, and adopting our first electric HGV is a crucial step in reducing our environmental impact.”

The eActros 600’s quiet, all-electric powertrain also brings operational advantages, particularly during night-time deliveries to rural areas where reduced noise helps minimise disturbance to local communities.

The vibrant and distinctive branding on the eActros 600 was professionally wrapped by Finch signs using Metamark Metaglide vinyl for a premium, durable finish. Printed on a new Roland VG3-540

printer to ensure exceptional colour accuracy and detail, Metaglide’s advanced adhesive technology allows for precise application of the wrap, with excellent repositionability, making it ideal for the complex contours of vehicle cabs.

This delivery marks another milestone in Agrii’s long-standing relationship with Midlands Truck & Van and Truck Sales Executive, Amit Verma, who have supported the company’s Mercedes-Benz fleet development for more than a decade.

NEW MACHINES AND UPDATED MODELS

Kuhn Farm Machinery returns to LAMMA for the second year in a row with a stand full of new and innovative machines to support UK farmers and growers.

For arable growers, the new generation Karan trailed sprayer range will take centre stage. Following a four-year development, the Karan delivers high spraying output and innovative technology to improve application accuracy. The Karan – seen for the first time in the UK at LAMMA – extends from basic to premium models, with boom widths from 18m to 45m, and tank capacities of 4,500, 5,200, 6,000 and 8,000 litres. A UK demonstrator machine will be available this spring.

Also making its UK debut will be the Highlander tine cultivator, introduced earlier this year. Slotting between the Cultimer and Prolander models, the Highlander offers shallow tillage – 3cm to 20cm – along with the option to destroy and mix crop residues and leave a level one-pass finish. Available in 6m and 7.5m widths, the Highlander will suit different systems with a choice of rollers,

harrows, seed hoppers and points to achieve the desired outcome. A UK demonstrator will also be available in spring 2026.

A brand-new machine on Kuhn’s stand will be the latest Multi-Longer 6157. Built to satisfy UK demand for powerful 6.1m reach hedge cutters, the new model retains existing Multi-Longer features, such as EP controls, with options including Motion Head 90 and a hydraulic debris blower.

Kuhn will also show its updated Merge Maxx 102 range, which now features ISOBUS control on the two larger models and multiple improvements to key areas based on customer feedback. These upgrades will simplify operation, increase durability and reduce maintenance time on all models. The three new models directly replace the previous generation, with working widths from 5.5m up to 10.95m.

Sian Pritchard, Kuhn UK managing director, said LAMMA provides the ideal platform to showcase the new launches. “It’s been a busy year for Kuhn and we’ve got plenty of new and updated models to preview at LAMMA.

LAMMA DEBUT FOR FOUR FENDTS

Fendt will showcase the new 500 Gen4, 700 Gen7.1, 800 Gen5 and 1000 Gen4 series tractors at LAMMA 2026.

Following a flurry of new tractor releases, Fendt will bring four new tractor series to the UK for LAMMA visitors to see. The most anticipated being the 700 Gen7.1 Vario which sees the 720, 722, 724 and 726 receive Fendt‘s DynamicPerformance power concept, providing an additional 20hp to the whole range, a feature previously only avaiable on the most powerful 728.

“The 700 Vario range now offers from 203hp to 303hp. With Power, Power+, Profi and Profi+ specifications this offers operators a sliding scale of specifications that sit between the recently introduced 600 Vario and the newly released 800 Vario,” saod Fendt’s Ed Dennett.

The 600 Vario pushed the boundaries of four-cylinder tractors when it was launched in 2023, with the top 620 model offering 220hp. The newly boosted Gen7.1 offers a range that starts with the 720 Vario at

223hp. Importantly, the newly boosted 724 and 726 models have been approved for 60km/h. This sees the Gen7.1 also flow seamlessly into the new 800 Vario range.

“The launch of the new 800 Vario features three new models offering 260hp-343hp. The whole range also features the DynamicPerformance to give a boost of 23 horsepower. New to the 800 is the singlestage Fendt VarioDrive drivetrain with permanent, independent four-wheel drive that provides maximum tractive power without manual shifting when switching between field and road,“ said Mr Dennett.

A new 500 Vario will be avaiable in the UK in 2026 and will be previewed at LAMMA.

The new Gen4 includes four models, the 513, 514, 515 and 516, with power outputs ranging from 134 to 164hp. It too will benefit from Fendt‘s DynamicPerformance which will offer a boost of 10hp and, like the larger tractors, it will also benefit from the new single stage VarioDrive.

“The 500 Vario now offers even greater

versatility. It has a low overall weight of 11.75 tonnes and a high payload of 4.9 tonnes. This means it can be flexibly ballasted front and rear and rear wheel weights can be used to help it act as both a field tractor with a drill combination and as a green harvest tractor with mowers, tedders and rakes,“ said Mr Dennett.

At the top of the wheeled tractor range is the 1000 Vario which is also in its fourth generation. There are four models in the range including the 1040, 1044, 1048 and 1052, offering 426hp to 550hp.

In addition to the new tractors will be an area of the Fendt stand dedicated to technology, namely the FendtONE operating system.

“Whilst horsepower is always going to play a part, Fendt also offers the technology to optimise the output of tractors to make every task more efficient. FendtONE enables connected work groups, ways to monitor and report on tasks, data sharing including waylines and the wireless exchange

of application maps. There will be an interactive area on the LAMMA stand for visitors to see how this technology can help improve the efficiency of their machinery,“ added Mr Dennett.

Further machinery at LAMMA will include the latest Rotana baler with semi automatic net to film baling and a camera to monitor bale ejection.

A newly updated MY26 IDEAL combine, with Fendt’s CyclonePlus cleaning, features a pre-sieve with a 1.0m² concave area and a redesigned upper concave. An improved slope performance kit will help with the distribution of the crop and provide cleaning on undulating ground.

“It is an exciting year for Fendt and one that will bring our UK customers groundbreaking technology and more efficient machines that can save time and money. We look forward to welcoming visitors to LAMMA and our team will be on hand to offer help and advice,“ concluded Mr Dennett.

FRUIT SHOW ENTRIES UP 90%

Double the number of fruit entries from last year, a raft of new exhibitors, impressive visitor numbers and a distinct ‘buzz’ throughout the exhibition hall made this year’s National Fruit Show an unqualified success.

After last year’s debut one-day event, the 2025 show organised by the Marden Fruit Show Society (MFSS) under the leadership of chairman Nigel Bardsley built on the success of the new format.

Fruit show entries were up by 90%, no doubt helped by this year’s superb harvest, and provided a stunning centrepiece to the event, held as always at the Kent Showground, while Nigel said visitor numbers by midday had already topped 2024’s final figure.

Exhibitor numbers were also up, with around 20 businesses taking space at the show for the first time, and, importantly, Nigel said the show – the 92nd – was now, financially, “on an even keel”.

With a number of stand holders and visitors praising Nigel’s “bravery” in moving to a one-day show last year, he pointed out that after having been involved in the show since his childhood, it was “in his blood” and said that he had simply felt unable to walk away from the challenges facing the society.

While the NP Seymour dealership has been built around a longstanding relationship with the impressive Fendt brand, Nick has become renowned for his engineering and design skills that have resulted in numerous bespoke pieces of equipment being invented and manufactured at the company’s Avon Works headquarters.

Praising his unique contribution to the fruit industry, Catherine referred to his “exceptional flair” and said he had “a passion for doing things properly” before paying tribute to his “integrity, skill and contribution to the industry”.
