The Kubota, Kverneland and Vicon tedders we consider as a used buy in this article differ from one another in two ways. Model number and paint colour. This must be good news if you like these tedders. There are potentially more dealers out there with a used buy to consider.

As is increasingly the case these days, potential choice and actual availability are two different things, the more so when you start to look for a used buy at the start of the grass growing season. When it comes to the Kverneland-Kubota-Vicon branded tedders we consider here, the models that have been the strongest sellers will obviously make up the key potential used finds. Or at least that is in theory. In the UK and Ireland mounted 8 rotor 8.0m Kverneland Compact Line 8480 and heavier duty 8 and 10 rotor 9.00m and 11.00m Pro Line 8590 and Pro Line 85112 (and the Kubota and Vicon branded equivalents –see table) are now the strongest sellers new but you will struggle to find used examples.

CURRENT MODELS
In broad outline, the current range on offer from these three brands are the Compact Line mounted models spanning 5.20m to 8.05m, Pro Line heavier duty tedders spanning 5.50m to 11.00m and Pro Line Carrier / C trailed models of 13.40m and 15.60m.
NOTE: Except for the wide 13.40m 85134C and 15.60m 85156C, Carrier Frame models with a C after the number are a rare UK spec.
To avoid confusion, we will use Kverneland 8000 series (current 8500 models are still called 8000 series) as examples, so refer to the tables for the Kubota (from around 2016) and Vicon equivalents.

SUMMARY
Tedders are simple bits of kit that can last many seasons with minimal maintenance. This does mean first owners tend to sell this kit on only when moving to something wider. As a used buyer, the chances are you are also looking for a wider tedder than the one you already have. Join the club. The wider the tedder, the harder it will be to find a used buy.

WHAT’S USED
Factory cut-away showing the design of the sealed rotor gearbox fitted to all Pro Line tedders. Designed to be maintenance free, the gearbox itself bolts to the frame and does not form a structural part of the rotor mount. This is claimed to reduce stress on the rotor bearings for increased durability. When looking over a used buy, see if you can pick up any play in the rotor. If you can, it shows the machine has done a lot of work. Best to find something else!

PRO LINE 8000 SERIES V LATER ‘8500 SERIES’?
Model numbering and product updates can help separate previous and current machine generations, and in the case of the Kverneland Pro Line models considered here tedders with an 80XX model number were replaced with those with an 85XX number, with the last two numbers giving an indication of working width in metres.
As sweeping generalisation, the later ‘8500 series’ can make a better longer term used buy as they are stronger, fold better for reduced height in transport and need less maintenance.
The Compact Line have seen little change, narrow working width models selling in reducing numbers year on year. If you are considering one of these variants as a used buy, condition will be of more importance than age.
Double UJ joints, which are maintenance free, take drive between each rotor section. Tedders put relatively light loading on the driveline but still check for play here. As with play in the rotors, wear here would suggest the tedder has done a great deal of work.
WHAT’S USED
Compact Line and 8000 series models have pivot points that do need a routine shot of grease to keep them in good order; remember the pivots are integral to contour following and not just there for folding for transport. New bushes and pins can be fitted to take up any wear.
A ‘third wheel’ can be fitted to the tedder headstock to improve contour following. Available as a retrofit.
Anti-sway or oscillation dampers are a standard fit to Compact Line and Pro Line tedders. Simple in design, the dampers have replaceable plastic blocks secured by a pair of bolts to reduce or increase the damping effect. A common setting error is to clamp these items too tight to prevent sway when raising the tedder out of work, this then compromising how the tedders follow the tractor in work. A quarter spanner turn can make a big difference. Worth keeping replacement plastic blocks to renew worn items as needed.
WHAT’S USED
A HexaLink ‘finger clutch’ enables the outer wings of 8576, 8590, 85112, 85134C and 85156C tedders to uncouple and fold to 180°, this reducing the transport height of these models to under 3.50m, previous generation models folding to nearer 4.0m.
SETTING TIPS
SPREAD ANGLE ADJUSTMENT
Kv-Kubota-Vicon branded tedders feature three-way adjustment of wheel height to alter the spread angle of the rotors. In simple outline, the steepest setting can be used to spread damp and heavy crops. As this setting will tend to be more aggressive, it is recommended that a shallower mid-point setting is used in lighter crops and for a second tedding pass. In grass destined to be baled for hay, this mid-setting is typically better suited to spreading long, tall grass swaths. The shallow lowest setting is gentler and should help produce a more even spread of material ahead of the rake, with a reduced chance of clumping.
WORKING AT AN ANGLE TO PREVIOUS PASS
Working along the line of the previous tedding pass is best avoided, working at angle reducing the chance of lumps forming when rowing up.
FORWARD SPEED AND ROTOR SPEED
Tedding is a job that does not like to be rushed. As
a rough guide, a forward speed of 6-7km/hr should be seen as a maximum, at least with Kv-Kubota -Vicon branded tedders, with the manufacturer also suggesting rotor speeds need to be kept reasonably low, a pto speed of between 400 and 500rpm typically delivering the best results.
KEEP AN EYE ON THE SWAY BLOCKS
It is all too easy to over tighten the sway bars when trying to reduce the movement on the tedder as it is raised out of work. As the machine is lowered into work, too tight a control will compromise performance and cause the sway blocks to wear. Slackening off the sway bar by a modest quarter of a spanner turn can make a big difference.
HEADSTOCK WHEEL
As an option, some models can be fitted with a headstock wheel, to allow the top link to be mounted in the central elongated hole. The helps ensure the tedder runs more evenly over undulating terrain and is a good choice when the tedder is worked by an operator who may not always pay attention to the job.
WHAT’S USED
IS WIDE AND SLOW THE WAY TO GO?
These days it is common for a tractor with far more power than is necessary to be hooked up to a tedder. This can lead to the temptation to ‘push on’ with the job. Up the forward speed and spin the rotors faster in other words.
As mentioned in the set up panel, the optimum forward and rotor speeds are just that. Start to speed things up and the quality of spreading can be compromised. Not only can this lead to an uneven spread that will affect the rowed up swath it can also impact upon how the crop dries, with wet patches due to poor aeration compromising forage quality.
One of the simplest settings on these tedders is adjusting the rotor angle. As a rough guide, the most severe setting is suited to the first pass to spread rows of a heavier, sticky grass swath, the shallower settings suiting a second pass and a drying crop. On a used buy, it is worth moving the rotor settings to ensure the rotor wheel arms are free to move. Check for damage.
Anyone faced with making a good swath from a poorly tedded crop knows this.
A point everyone also knows, but often chooses to overlook, is that as the crop dries its spread characteristics alters. If it is suggested you may ‘get away’ with faster than ideal first pass spin of a heavy swath, a fast second pass of a spread crop will be less forgiving.
Long winded way of saying the only way to increase performance without compromising the job is to buy a wider tedder.

As a used buyer, it is now the Pro Line models that tend to be more sought after. These models have benefitted from developments over the previous generation that will not show up when just considering the basic specs above. The 7.60m and six rotor KV 8076 and successor KV 8576 will do the same job, but in terms of build and maintenance the 8576 benefits from features that reduce maintenance demands, with the overall build strength of the machine increased.
WHAT’S USED
SMALL ROTORS?
Kubota, Kverneland and Vicon tedders have shifted towards the use of smaller diameter rotors, with 500mm rotor plates, and a reduced number of tine arms (see model tables). The aim is to reduce ‘over tedding’ lighter crops, with the claim that altering the rotor speed and tine angles enables heavier, sugar rich sticky swathes to be spread equally effectively.
Hydraulic headland spread adjustment was first offered as an option on the 8500 Pro Line tedders from around 2016. An easy spot that is worth looking out for on a used buy. Available as an option the 8076 since 1997, a point to note if one of these is offered as a used buy.
If you compare 8076 and 8090 tedders with the later 8576 and 8590 you will spot two key changes, the taller transport height of the older models and the from steel to alloy rotor guards. Less obvious is the stronger build of the later models. In terms of the job done, both generations will do much the same job, but later variants will typically be easier to set up and operate.
Data plate on the main frame will show model number and date of manufacture. When ordering replacement parts, the model type number and machine ID may be needed to ensure any spares are the right ones for a specific model year.

Reduction drive gearbox gears down the input speed to reduce rotor speeds. Slowing the rotors as the crop dries may compromise output but can boost forage quality.
Kverneland Super-C 10mm tines are of an even length. A plastic link as pictured is favoured by those tedding heavy crops as it can help spread the load between the tines as well as help keep a broken tine affixed to its neighbour if one breaks. More subtle are the shims that can be added to alter the tine angle by plus or minus 4°, with a more aggressive setting for heavy silage. On a used buy, check the tine mounts to see if shims have been added.
WHAT’S USED
Kverneland produce a simple list of pre-season check tips on its website, with the key points to look out for equally applying to the points to look over on a used buy. Hook the tedder up to a tractor and unfold it to do a proper check. In brief, if its turns, bends or folds, check it. Don’t overlook each tyre. It is cheaper to replace the lot if they show signs of ageing than suffer repeated failures in the field.
Simple table to show the range of tedder models on offer how various swath patterns can be spread. As a used buyer, this can be used to help you decide which models to look out for to match specific mowing widths.
It is easy to spot if border tedding adjustment is fitted, a mechanical lock enabling the tedder to be set to adjust the throw to the adjacent passes. Kverneland and related Kubota and Vicon tedders favour smaller diameter rotors with fewer tine arms. This is claimed to enable setting up for less aggressive handling of lighter and drier crops destined to be baled for hay but with the versatility to handle heavier crops. Border tedding is standard on all models to include older models such as 8052 and 8076.
OUTLINE MODELS AVAILABLE FROM 2016 (UK)
WHAT’S USED
Compare an 8.0m 8 rotor 5 tine arm Compact Line 8480 with a 9.0m 8 rotor 6 tine arm Pro Line 8590. On paper and they may seem similar. In the metal, however, there are numerous design differences, with the ‘Pro’ having stronger build and lower maintenance demands. A clue to build strength is in their respective weights of 920kg versus 1,260g.

August is here and that means harvesting and so much more, as I write this in late July the weather is still good and the sales season continues unabated. The show season has also been very healthy indeed.
Reader David Rowlinson has been in touch to tell us about this rare Massey Ferguson 3165R (semi automatic transmission) he thinks it would be a good reader's winter project and I agree.
He writes: “Hi Peter – I have a MasseyFerguson 3165R in the field I bought it 20 years ago from a farmer on the Fens near Ely. It seems that he had bought it to maintain the many ditches and drainage channels on his land and I bought it to help with an extension that I was having built and also to carry out maintenance on my adjacent land.
I have now moved and so must sell it. It has only clocked just over 2,000 hours and whilst I haven't used it for some time I did have someone interested who removed the digger and loader which incidentally has a full set of buckets. During the time I used it the digger hoses were replaced by a local engineer. It seems the previous owner was an enthusiast as it came with a complete set of manuals and instruction books and I would like to think that there will be someone looking for a winter project!”

GOOD CROWD AT 95TH KENT COUNTY SHOW
The 95th Kent Showground buzzed with positivity over 3-5 July when 65,000 people flocked through the gates at Detling to celebrate the best of Kent agriculture.
Organised by the registered charity, Kent County Agricultural Society, the show offered visitors the opportunity to explore food and agriculture in Kent, enjoy spectacular entertainment including the famous Farming Heritage section, which has been part of the show since the mid 1960s.
Chairman of the Kent County Agricultural Society, Matthew Cullen, said “There has been a fantastic atmosphere across the showground at this year’s Kent County Show! We’ve been really lucky to have the weather on our side which has brought visitors out in droves and has encouraged a
true festival feel for all three days.”
The Heritage section was started in the mid 1960s and became a huge section at one time with over 30 steam engines, 100 commercials (in two sections), and 145 tractors from all over the UK from Derbyshire to Devon and Cornwall. Although the Heritage section is still good it is sadly a quarter of its size now.
On the Friday of this year’s show I gave most of the parade commentary and paid tribute to the late Richard Pierce from Hadlow who died late last year. Richard was a farmer and collector of old time farm machinery and a promoter of steam ploughing. He was part of the original driving force at the Kent County in making the Heritage section work along with Will Day. Richard’s brother William was
exhibiting at the show with his son Will who very much carries on the Pierce tradition.
There were over 25 Ferguson tractors paying tribute to the ‘80 Years of Ferguson’, but the Ford and Fordson Association section under Rodney Gibson out did that number unintentionally with the Fordson Standard’s of all ages that were on display.
The Kent County Show will return for its 96th show in July 2027, with dates to be confirmed soon. In the meantime, the Kent County Agricultural Society team are preparing for Biddenden Tractorfest, which will take place on Saturday 15-16 August at Holden Farm in Biddenden. Advance tickets for Biddenden Tractorfest are on sale now and pre-booking is essential as 20,000 tickets were sold for the 2025 show, which was sold out before it took place.
CHAILEY TRACTOR CLUB STARS IN FRANCE
The pony trotting track at The Hippodrome du Mont Louvet in Normandy was the venue for a bi-annual show staged by the Passion Tracteur Collection based at the nearby town of Gournay-en-Bray on 25-26 June.
Over 60 tractors from the Chailey Tractor Club drove to Newhaven and caught the overnight ferry and then drove 48 miles to the rally site. Almost all the exhibits made their own way from the ferry to the event under their own power and over roads on

which, in places, the tarmac was melting with temperatures in the 90s.
Under the circumstances it wasn’t surprising that there were several breakdowns, mainly as a result of overheating owing to the heat wave on both sides of the Channel. Fortunately the club had allowed for this and had made arrangements for towing tractors or a piggy-back ride on a trailer provided by John Millam and pulled by his JCB Fastrack. As it was all vehicles arrived safely at Gournay-en-Bray by Friday evening where they were greeted by the mayor and representatives of the town twining committee.
The feature this year was International Harvester and a superb collection of over 80 machines of this make were seen mostly made in France and Germany from the long lost and forgotten factories there.
The Sunday afternoon finished off with an unofficial parade around the site by the UK contingent which the French tractor owners joined in with. In the evening the local PTC staged a superb meal for their UK guests which went on well into the night. On the Monday it was back to Dieppe and Newhaven when reality struck and the tractor owners motored home after an amazing weekend never to be forgotten.

MARTYN’S LAW
The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) representing over 550 clubs and museums in the UK has called on the Government’s industry regulator to provide more help for volunteers running classic vehicle events.
Martyn’s Law will come into force from the spring of 2027. The FBHVC calls for an approach that is ‘constructive and sympathetic, not overly-bureaucratic and critical.’
Crucially Martyn’s Law will particularly affect events where more than 800 people (including traders and exhibitors) will be on a site at any one time as proactive public protection measures will have to be considered and implemented as necessary. Organisations will be required to notify details of events and security plans in advance to the regulator of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). How this is to be done, and the level of detail required has yet to be revealed by the SIA.
The FBHVC surveyed clubs and found a wide mix of types of events, largely organised by very small teams of volunteers with limited budgets.
Concerns were raised that the unique nature of agricultural events, meant that understanding the guidance – which appears to be aimed at commercial enterprises running pop concerts and the like – is proving challenging.
Therefore, the FBHVC calls for the SIA to set up a hotline, to provide the guidance and advice that is currently lacking.
Setting out the call for action, FBHVC Legislation Director Lindsay Irvine explains:
“As covered in detail in Edition 10 of Historic, the appointed regulator under the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (Martyn’s Law), the Security Industry Authority (SIA), has been consulting on the statutory guidance on how it should carry out its role.
“The consultation is now closed and the Federation has made a detailed submission on what we expected from the regulator in fulfilling its professed aim “to be proportionate, consistent, transparent, accountable and targeted only at cases in which action is needed.”
“In summary, whilst agreeing with that aspiration, we submitted that since overwhelmingly our member clubs are staffed by volunteers, we wanted an approach which is constructive to include:
• A helpline to provide specific advice and guidance to organisers particularly in relation to assisting them with assessing what might be proportionate and reasonable protection measures for their event.
• That they ensure that in the light of experience, the statutory Home Office guidance is amended to include more examples of what is proportionate and reasonable in different scenarios and a comprehensive compendium of FAQs.
“We indicated that our clubs organise events which in terms of attendance fall at every part of the spectrum, their size is
often quite disproportionate to the size of the club.
“As volunteer organisations they are likely to experience difficulties with aspects of compliance and we asked for a light touch to any inspection and enforcement action with a default setting of providing tailored guidance and assistance.
“Finally, we asked that the next set of regulations which will set out the instructions for notifications etc should be simple and straightforward and the costs of compliance for non-commercial organisations kept as low as possible.
“The Federation extends its considerable thanks to the many clubs who responded to the short-notice request for information on their events and input to the Federation response.
“That swift survey indeed confirmed the breadth of events, small and large, which our fantastic members organise.
“We believe that, whilst much of the new government guidance on compliance is clear, making decisions on what are ‘reasonable and proportionate’ public protection measures for larger events remain a challenge, which we hope and expect the SIA to be sympathetic as it gears up for implementation in spring 2027.”

Well the easy bit is out and the spreader will live for another day.
To think that the outfit made its own way down into the stream.
With the tri-axle recovery well dug in the action begins as the Western spreader starts to be pulled out.
By the looks of it the Claas Axion 870 is just scrap, but it all can be salvaged.
With heavy recovery on site the team work out the line of approach.
As can be seen the spreader is evenly place with ropes when it comes to pulling capacity.

OUT ON THE LAND
Mick Gould Commercials from Flimwell, East Sussex have been in demand again. Mick said: “It is that time of year with increased activity on the land. Naturally, with greater activity accidents are more prevalent.”
As a rule, they get involved with several agricultural incidents throughout the season. The Claas Axion 870 tractor and its Richard Western D5150 spreader managed to escape from the crown of the hill, just beyond the position the rotator is winching from.
There was no one in the tractor at the time of the accident and apparently, it was facing uphill. I’m told that it rolled backwards in
a semi-circle before then travelling forwards, down towards the dyke. Judging by the extent of the damage sustained, the machine must have entered the dyke at a reasonably high speed.
It was loaded initially, most of the contents coming out of the spreader on impact. Mick said recovery was a fairly straightforward process, utilising a single winch but with multiple lines to increase the available effort yet dissipate the loads. “Once the combination was placed in the field, we set the rotator up and separated the two pieces. The spreader was largely undamaged… sadly, the same cannot be said for the Axion.”
RARE HANOMAG AND PAXMAN TO STAR
Farming has been Tom Randell’s life in Norfolk, his father came to this mixed farm at the beginning of World War II which Tom and his late brother Paddy later took on. Today Tom’s son runs the 500 acres or so here and all that goes on managing a farm which diversifies into many other areas as well today.
Tom remembers his mother telling him that there was a Fordson Standard N originally here with the odd horse still working when needed and in those days they had a dairy herd as well. He can remember the E27N and Ferguson TE-F diesel later, followed by a Fordson E1A, Super Major to be followed by Ford Pre Force 4000 and other blue tractors followed before International 956 and 1056 tractors came along and today they run a

The farm always had a good relationship with Manns of Saxham and Claas combines featured heavily here and still do. Many are all part of the historic collection and include an SFB, Columbus, Super 500 as well as a Claas pick-up baler and more, that will be offered at the end of August. However, the excellent condition (no wood worm) of Little Giant seed drum by Barclay, Ross and Hutchinson of Aberdeen (phone number 48) was impressive. This would be an ideal machine for a tractor or small portable to drive.
Sugar beet, potatoes and cereals have been the mainstay here for decades and there are a number of these vintage and classic implements to be offered at the sale including a Peter Standen Junior beet harvester (2),

The oldest known Davey Paxman from Colchester comes up at the Randell an engine they have owned 46 years.
Catchpole and a, like new, Grimme potato harvester and a Massey Ferguson potato harvester as well. Other implements include various Ferguson products like a well restored low volume sprayer; saw bench, Ferguson winch and Massey Ferguson 4-row drill. There are many other implements besides trailers, stationary engines and quite naturally rural bygones.
There are some important tractors here, history wise starting with a genuine East Anglian used tractor that worked near Beccles. The 1938 Lanz D85506 35hp HR7, GV6758 with V5c, which even includes vintage enclosed rear tyres on the tractor is in full running condition.
Something even more unusual is the circa 1925 Hanomag WD R26 with a Ritscher rotary

As the tractor features an original Hanomag tin radiator header tank and not cast this makes it 1924-26 as the company went on to use cast header tanks in 1927.
The WD R 26 was the very first conventional type of tractor made by Hanomag and carries a 26hp 4.3 litre four-cylinder petrol/paraffin engine with three-forward speed transmission with a top speed of 8mph. Before this time the Hanover based company had concentrated on their huge motor ploughs and crawlers, but of course this company made many other things particularly steam railway locomotives of all sizes and very early

electric locomotives, even steam wagons and became a large commercial vehicle, bus and car manufacturer from 1924. During WW II they were the only German company with continuous tractor production which saw its final demise in 1971.
The brothers were in Cecil Dawson’s famous scrapyard near Norwich where the Foster and Wallis and Steevens traction engines came out from and sold to Michael List-Brain when the yard was finally cleared. But long before that the brothers were looking around and Cecil had taken a shine to the brothers and when they looked behind a pile of plywood all hidden in a sheet they discovered the Hanomag in such good order. Cecil said it was not for sale. However years later he phoned them and

said he wanted them to have the rotary ditch cleaner and that was 50 or so years ago. The outfit was restored and has hardly ever been rallied, but appeared at the famous Tunstead Trosh where Cecil was able to see it before he passed away. In short this is a very rare piece of kit, perhaps not to everyone’s taste, but it has a unique history especially as it is an early conventional Hanomag tractor.
Also in the sale is the oldest surviving Davey Paxman steam portable No. 11692 8hp single cylinder semi-portable. The brothers bought this at the Tom Paisley sale on 1 October 1980 for £2,000. They went for a traction engine, but they were rather expensive. The engine had a shiny firebox and had never been steamed by Stan Burgess who had restored the engine in 1978-80 for Tom.
Good looking and very original the Caterpillar D2 is such a gem.
The lovely Little Giant, Barclay, Ross and Hutchinson seed drum is in excellent order (no worm) and ideal to be driven by a small steam portable or tractor to drive.

SALES SCENE
The engine was new to the Grand Junction Canal Company on 1 December 1902 and despatched to Leighton Buzzard three weeks later on 23 December and had been in stock since 1900. The engine lasted because it was the spare engine in a pumping station and kept inside. The engine is fitted with Paxman patent expansion valve gear and has been lightly used, but Tom said the engine needs a tubeplate and tubes, but the firebox is still good.
There is a fine Marshall M with cartridge start conversion carried out in working times period that has been here for over 40 years. Beside this there are two Fowler VF crawlers, the first was bought to be worked in the 1976 wet autumn harvest period as they could not get the wheeled tractors on the land to take off the potatoes and the Fowler certainly earned its keep that year and was very successful at the job. The crawler is still in the condition it was last used and comes
with log book. However the farm ended up with another VF and the brothers restored this example which has been out to a number of shows over the years.
I have only touched the edge of the collection here which includes a lovely unstyled John Deere A on steel wheels with a UK history and looks a dream of a machine in older restored condition. From a similar period is the International W12 which has been well rebuilt and works on the saw bench. Also in the collection is the late Sparky Chaplin UK used Case C. It is a tractor that I have personally driven and was so well restored by Sparky’s helper Dave that all these years later it still looks a gem. Also spotted is a Case LA on steel wheels in lovely patina order and the Case line is finished off with a Flambeau styled SC rowcrop all restored.

DAVID JAMES SALE
On Saturday 11 April auctioneers David James held an extensive disposal sale at Severn View Farm, St Briavels in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire which was held in good weather. It featured multi makes, restored and unrestored including some excellent implements. The sale started off with a scruffy MF 135 at £2,200. Then the original style grade 3 Leyland 245 looked a treat with excellent tyres and great original detail, but featured light surface rust on the bonnet, changed hands at £3,450. A very good price was paid for the International 10/20 in older restored condition when an astonishing
Top lot at the David James sale was the Ford 4000 that was used as a ploughing match tractor with history and sold for £11,250.
£4,400 was paid for it. The Mk1 raised £4,100 and the Multi-Power Mk2 went for £5,200. Best in the MF line was the original 35 diesel with loader at a very good £6,500.
Next came a well equipped Fordson E27N, HAD442, petrol/ paraffin with good tyres and reasonable paintwork grade 4, which went on to sell for a good £2,000 it has since changed hands twice between dealers and has been given a big plug recently. There were two grade 4 Dexta’s here, one sold at £3,600 and the Super Dexta that showed some surface rust sold for £2,900.

well restored (some time ago) Nuess, Germany made, (sold in the UK1966-71) McCormick-Deering 523 with the standard ZF transmission raised £10,000. The lovely IHC 55T baler that went with it sold for £2,000. Next was a John Deere R diesel, all restored and looking good which sold for just £4,750.
Later on in the sale came a Fordson 1000 series creation called a 43805 which sold for £5,600 grade 4 condition. The highlight was the very well detailed Ford Force 4000 with wheel weights and more which led to a record price of £11,250. All in all an excellent sale for the venders.
£750 was paid for the Nuffield 10/60 which carried a loader at onetime and featured good front tyres.
THE LATE RON GREET SALE
A large crowd was noted at the HJ Pugh late Ron Greet Sale near Newton Abbott on Wednesday 20 May and held in excellent weather in the lush Devon countryside.
Ron was a famous knowledgeable, agricultural scrapman, farmer, wheeler dealer who loved commercials and passenger service vehicles, everyone just liked him.
He had a wonderful pre and postwar Vauxhall car collection which featured some restored, others ready to be restored and some half way through being restored, they were all here, but the car prices were low even though they had been well advertised. The best of the tractors was a so, so not finished restoration of a Massey Ferguson 1200 at £20,400. A fair price for something that much of the work done will be need to be looked at again.

grade 3 were got away at £500. The best of the Ferguson tractors was the grade 4 TE-F diesel that raised a fair £2,200. The painted International B250 with a 414 engine was moved on at £2,400. Back on the Massey trail, the said to be 1967 135 with 285 hours, McMaster cab and a later registration TGL312Y with V5c in grade 5 condition was knocked down at £8,500. The grade 2 Massey Ferguson 168 LPA11P with V5c was got away at £5,000.
Prices improved when the MF 185 came on RHO384P – with just four hours since an engine rebuild the machine raised £8,600. Moving up the models the MF 188 MultiPower with cab frame and 8,271 hours, ATM360L grade 5 with V5c sold for £10,500. The ‘old dog’ grade 2 MF 590 four-wheel drive with Multi-Power, 8,299 hours finished this selection off when £5,000 was paid for it. The beginning of this report noted the MF 1200, but prices here were rather flat really and the auctioneers cannot be blamed for this either.
One they liked was the Logan McMaster cabbed MF 135 restored at £8,500.

Rather a bit of an ‘old dog’ with excellent tyres is the MF 590 at £5,000.

The big one on the day was the 1996 Case-IH Magnum 7220 which raised £24,400.
In indifferent weather HJ Pugh staged the Holland Magpie Sale on Saturday 6 June near Yeovil, Somerset. A good crowd was here as the Pugh sale team worked hard to sell the many items that made up the huge stock which included 80 tractors.
The sale started with the McCormickDeering 15/30 grade 2 when £2,400 was offered; then came a grade 4 example on steels at £2,100. The IHC family theme continued when £2,900 was the price of the Farmall F12 on steels, grade 4, various Raymond Lowey styled Internationals came and went with prices not very exciting, but carried on the similar trend that Cheffins came across at their April sale. The best was the W9 petrol/ diesel no.00353798W in grade 4 condition at £3,000.
Moving on in IHC history, a German made 1970 323 with 7,044 hours sold for £3,300, grade 3. Looking good the 955 two-wheel drive made £5,800 and £11,000 was offered for the 1988 958XL and £12,800 for the 1056XL with 8,385 hours. Moving up the line the 1996 Magnum 7220 four-wheel drive with 8,187 hours raised £24,400.
As can be seen there was a fine line selection of ‘blue’ offered.
County 7600-Four without cab but front weights got to £11,200.
Ford Pre Force 3000 narrow with power steering got to £2,600.
MAGPIE SALE
The Ferguson prices saw a TE-D with roll bar grade 2 sell for £1,700 and two TE-F diesels grade 3 and 4 raised £2,250 and £1,650 respectively. Various grade 3 MF 100 series came up with the 135 Multi-Power example with Lambourn cab, £5,200 and the late non MP example, carrying a cab, £6,400.
A 165 Mk2 with roll bar and foot throttle grade 2 was yours at £3,600. A pair of David Brown’s were the next focus when the 1967 990 Selectamatic with cab frame came up and raised £1,500 and the 1983 1390 two-wheel drive with V5c grade 2 £2,450.
It was then onto the Ford and Fordson family that started with an unusual older restored narrow (grade 4) Fordson F which featured a number of E27N parts on it (according to the experts) and sold well at £4,000.
Talking narrow tractors, there was a Ford
Leyland 2100 with weights and V5c got to £6,000.
1968 Pre Force 3000 MJG729F with 5,681 hours on its clock and featured power steering, grade 3 which raised £2,600. A good looking 3600 narrow that had been played with did a little better at £3,100. The original County made Ford 8100 two-wheel drive DBC559T with 7,998 hours and V5c was yours at £10,400. Doing better was the painted four-wheel drive County 7600-Four without cab which made £11,200.
The 1994 Ford 7840 Power Star four-wheel drive M541TYB with 10,484 hours got to £11,700 grade 3 and the best, money wise, was the 8340 SLE Powerstar four-wheel drive with some 12,324 hours which was got away at £15,800 grade 3. Lastly a good 1988 Ford 555 back/hoe loader E990BJN was offered, but not sold and is still available.
The desirable Leyland 2100 LVL991P with V5c and 5,078 hours went on to make £6,000.
The Fordson F narrow is rather a bitsa, but still sold for a good £4,000 in grade 2/4 condition.
Field Marshall Series 1 no. 2919 needs the works really and raised £6,000 a good price for it.
An original style Field Marshall Series 1, perhaps needing much work made £6,000 and continued the downward slope this make is going through this year, unfortunately. The lovely good running original style 1924 Minneapolis 17/30A no.58573 got up to £7,000.
The sale finished off with some reasonable looking International crawlers particularly the TD-9 Drott, grade 3 that made £11,000. The Doncaster built Rolls-Royce engined BTD-20 without cab and 13ft blade went on to make £3,700. The prices were typical West County at the moment.
Looking good is the Ferguson completion plough that sold for just £160 grade 2/3.
The International line-up was even more impressive.
JOHN TURNER SALE
On Thursday 25 June H J Pugh held on site the late John Turner clearout sale which consisted of some 143 lots. It included a number original Ferguson items that had been here for many years with the original Ferguson transport box selling for £100, and the long board 2-furrow plough at £160.

This also applies to the 1994/5 Massey Ferguson 3095 Dynashift-4 four-wheel drive with 11,094 L98CKL a model that’s now classed as a collector’s tractor. Carrying on the same theme is the 2006 Massey Ferguson 6495 Dynashift four-wheel drive with 7,494 hours on the clock.
Looking fine is a 2008 Knight 18-35 3,600 litre sprayer with 24m boom with 7,494 hours, VX08WS. Then there is the 1994/5 Matbro TR250 Powershift, M839XFC telehandler complete with Strimech 1.5ton grain bucket and pallet forks and 8,812 hours on the clock. The combine here is a clean stock 2013 Massey Ferguson Activa 7347S with 20ft powerfoot flow header. All the main machinery has been kept inside which has helped to keep the equipment in good condition.

In good weather H J Pugh continued the vast array of sales this year when on Tuesday 30 June they conducted the farm sale of MB and AJ Stone, Kinnersley, Worcestershire.
This very adaptable farm had used some interesting equipment over the years and featured three MB trac’s. But before that interest was stirred up by the clean Kawasaki KLF300 sprayer at £2,400. It was followed by the Dowdeswell DP120S 6-furrow plough at £1,700. In fact that price was paid for the unusual three-part mole plough. The Simba 4.6m double press grade 3 raised £2,600, but the Simba 23C discs with rear draw bar was yours at £5,200. The Simba lots concluded with the Mono 200 tool carrier at £2,550. Looking like new was the 2017 Horsh Joker 6RT at £23,000 and the Vaderstad Sea Hawk 800c 30 Series made the same money.
The sale moved on to the KRM EX fertiliser spreader + control bar at £700. The Salop 5200 10 ton two-axle grain trailer was yours at £3,900 and the 1978 S200 from the same manufacturer raised £2,900. A Salopion SD8 dung trailer went on to be knocked down at £3,300.
Next it was time for the tractors, starting off with the clean 1977 Massey Ferguson 590 with PAVT wheels. The two-wheel drive tractor YAB177R was certainly clean with V5c sold for £6,300. Then came the stars in the sale with the 1989 MB trac 1100 G257MVV and 7,002 hours selling for £21,500. Then there were two so so MB trac 1000 models the first came from 1985 C367WAD, with V5c and 8,293 hours raised £21,000 and the second again from 1985 B137MFH and 7,117 hours was got away at £22,000.
Next came the 2014 New Holland T8-390 VX64LLU made at the Racine, Wisconsin Case-IH plant and this example had 2,737 hours on the clock which raised £55,000 and the unused New Holland 16 x 100 kgs front weights that went with it made £900. The 2019 McConnell A280 Agri Bussy

SPECIAL EDITION LAUNCHED FOR 50,000 LANDMARK
Fendt has launched a limited edition 900 Vario model to mark production of 50,000 900 series. 30 years on from the first 900 Vario, the latest anniversary model features an engraved ’50,000’ door sill, embroidered floor mats with an anniversary logo, super comfort seats trimmed in titanium leather and an anniversary badge on the chromed bonnet.
“This special edition 900 Vario is limited to 300 models which are available to order from Fendt dealers now. The 900 Vario was unveiled at Agritechnica in 1995 and was the world’s first tractor to feature continuously variable, power-split transmission. Since that launch it has proved remarkably popular worldwide for a wide range of applications,” said Fendt’s Ed Dennett.
The anniversary model reflects on some of
the past models, with paintwork reminiscent of the 2005 Design Line. Four colourways have been released, including the trademark black that led to the 2005 model being christened the ‘Black Madonna’, steel blue, black/red and nature green.
“The 900 has long been the tractor of firsts. A true pioneer, it was the first to feature the electronically controlled fuel injection system and the first to benefit from Fendt’s Vario Terminal. The subsequent 2003 model was the first Fendt operated with the new Tractor Management System (TMS) which electronically linked the engine and transmission and automatically adjusted the revs to match the power requirement,” said Mr Dennett.
2005 saw the launch of the 936 Vario with a Deutz 360hp engine, independent wheel suspension, a new cab and a class-leading
60km/h top speed. The fourth generation that followed in 2010, increased power output to 390hp from a 7.8 litre Deutz engine. This model was the first to be fitted with VarioGrip, a revolutionary onboard air system to regulate tyre pressure from the cab.
“Innovations like VarioGrip have kept the Fendt 900 Vario one step ahead over the 30 years it has been manufactured. VarioGrip was Fendt’s way of demonstrating a commitment to providing powerful tractors that could reduce soil compaction and fuel consumption,” added Mr Dennett.
In 2013, the fifth generation of the 900 Vario was fitted with another new Deutz power plant, this time with steel pistons and two turbo chargers of different sizes, along with a new intercooler which replaced the previous turbo charging system. For many, the new reversible fan was a game changer
because it helped the engine breathe in dusty environments which significantly reduced downtime.
The current sixth generation, on which the special edition is based, was released in 2019. It took the latest single mode VarioDrive with four-wheel drive from the larger 1000 series, and the range topping 942 has 415hp provided by a 9.0 litre MAN engine. Two years later, the operating system was updated to run the now widely used FendtONE system which has transformed workflow between office and tractor.
“It is a fitting mark of appreciation that Fendt has chosen to recognise the importance of the 900 Vario with this new 50,000 limited edition model. Demand will be high and we expect the 300 tractors will find their owners very quickly,” concluded Mr Dennett.
BAG IN A BOX BIOSTIMULANTS SAVE 63% PLASTIC
Single use plastics should be reduced to make managing crops more sustainable. This according to agronomist Mike Stoker, from biostimulants specialist Orion Future Technologies, is possible using a new bag in a box solution.
“The price of plastic has risen by more than 40% since the Iran/Israel conflict broke out in February. As a UK manufacturer of biostimulants, Orion has seen this as an opportunity to manage our cost of production and protect our customers by reducing the plastic needed to package our biostimulant products,” he said.
“The bag in a box reduces plastic use by 63%, which will help us to keep prices down and has knock-on benefits including reduced storage and transport costs which further brings down the carbon footprint of our products,” he added.
Akin to the packaging used for products like wine, the bag in a box also reduces the amount of air that flows back into the contents of the bag, giving the product a longer shelf life compared to when it was
packed in hard plastics. It empties quickly, without ‘glugging’, and the design prevents air going back into the pack.
“For growers, the bag in a box is easier and cheaper to recycle and dispose of. It takes up less space and will also appeal to buying groups looking to promote sustainable credentials. The plastic bladder can be extracted, triple rinsed and recycled along with the cardboard outer box,” he said.
The Chartered Institute of Waste Management states that, “Around 135,500 tonnes of agricultural plastic waste is produced each year in the UK, and DEFRA suggests that only 20%-30% is turned into new products,” concluded Mr Stoker.
5 TOP TIPS FOR SLURRY TO STUBBLE APPLICATION
Post-harvest is a crucial time for putting nutrients back into soil before drilling the next crop. However, applying slurry in hot conditions can reduce nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and see vital nitrogen lost if it is not applied accurately. Vogelsang’s Andy Hayhurst offers some top tips to help get the most out of slurry post-harvest.
1. Post-harvest slurry application can be seen as a two-step process. Unlike a chemical fertiliser, slurry is immediately plant available from when it is incorporated into the soil. While it is important to put back lost nutrients, a plan to apply some slurry immediately but reserve some for when the crop has been planted will help the newly establishing plants get more benefit from slurry.
2. Managing stored slurry to provide the best quality material for application is of paramount importance to stubble application. Separation will help with this, as will covering slurry to prevent valuable nutrients being lost in hot weather. A well separated slurry will be easier and cheaper to pump, and it can be applied more accurately using dribble bars or a trailing shoe applicator. The liquid will
also be absorbed faster, meaning fewer nutrients are lost in hot weather when slurry is prone to evaporation which causes ammonia losses.
3. Not every field is the same and soil types differ in their capabilities to absorb slurry. This is why variable rate application is important and can help provide the optimal volume of slurry for the soil. Using soil and slurry test results and field maps, along with precision applicators and variable rate, will ensure the soil gets what it needs. Variable rate is also useful when applying to newly planted crops because it prevents the soil, and early establishing plants, being swamped in slurry.
4. Applying to stubbles is an opportunity to create biomass in soil that will help reduce the impact of winter leaching during inevitable spells of heavy rain. Using separated slurry provides the option to feed the nitrogen-rich, liquid fraction to soil as a starter which helps to rapidly increase biomass. The solid fraction, which contains most of the P and K, can be subsequently applied as a top dressing in conditions that are not suitable for applying liquid slurry.
5. Timing is crucial. Avoid applying slurry to baked and cracked soils because it will not be absorbed fully and nitrogen will be lost. Rainy days are also a poor and potentially dangerous time to apply slurry, especially post-harvest when soils are dry because it increases the likelihood of potentially damaging run off. Aim for cool, cloudy days when there has been a little rain. This helps the soil to absorb slurry faster and fewer nutrients will be lost by slurry baking on the surface.

RETIRED FIREFIGHTER DIGS DEEP FOR POPPY APPEAL
A retired Staffordshire firefighter is digging deep for the Poppy Appeal – by launching a JCB-themed badge to raise vital funds.
Kelvin Chell, from Audley, Newcastleunder-Lyme, has designed a bespoke JCB digger-themed pin badge with all proceeds supporting the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. JCB and Fenton-based JCB supplier Rayne Engineering have joined forces to fund production of 1,300 of the badges, which will be available for a minimum donation of £4.
Kelvin has a long track record of raising funds for military charities through his bespoke badge designs, having raised more than £140,000 six years for the Poppy Appeal.
Kelvin said: “I wanted to do something with a JCB theme to coincide with the company’s 80th anniversary year and because JCB is one of the great British success stories based in my home county of Staffordshire. It’s fantastic to have the support of both JCB and Rayne Engineering to bring the project to life. Every badge sold will help support veterans and their families, which is something very close to my heart.”
Andrew Simmell, owner of Rayne Engineering, added: “We’re proud to support Kelvin’s efforts and to play a part in such an important cause. The Poppy Appeal does incredible work supporting the Armed Forces community, and this badge is a brilliant way

John Deere has released the model year 2027 (MY27) update of its 6R Large and Xtra Large Frame tractor range, introducing technical refinements aimed at road transport performance, operator environment, precision farming capability and long-term operating efficiency. The updated range comprises four Large Frame models (6R 180, 6R 200, 6R 220, 6R 240) and two Xtra Large Frame models (6R 230 and 6R 260), with outputs up to 305hp with IPM.
RIDE COMFORT
The new 6R road transport performance has been further improved with the Sport
Package Pro, combining chassis, steering and braking updates to improve stability, ride quality and steering precision both onroad and offroad.

• Object detection: More safety through monitoring the environment – the rear area of the machine is monitored using ultrasonic sensors. When reversing, the operator is warned of obstacles both visually (via imaging in the display) and acoustically (via signal tone sounds). In addition, a clear view of the area behind
the machine can be shown on the display by a rear-view camera. This means reliable support in confusing situations and it enables the operator to work safely without any stress.
• Active work lighting: A high-quality lighting package with powerful LED work lights and Coming Home lighting as standard ensures optimum illumination of the work area. The Performance lighting package offers enhanced functions for greater comfort and safety, including additional LED work lights and a dimming function. The light intensity can be adjusted according to the situation, ensuring that work is glare-free. With active work lighting, the forward illumination is automatically adjusted to match the respective work situation.
• Loading system sensitivity (adjustable in three levels): In the 90s series models, the two sections of the loading system, or in case of telescopic wheel loaders, three sections (namely lifting/lowering, rolling in/out and telescoping in/out), can each be freely adjusted in three speed levels, independent of one another. This provides the option of freely combining the precision or speed of the loading system. The new Weidemann wheel loader and telescopic wheel loader models are complemented by a modern machine design with dynamic, distinctive lines on the engine hood and the premium cabin. The new models offer a wide range of customisable equipment options with focus on highvolume of materials handling on a daily basis and precise stacking work.
OPICO LAUNCH SIMTECH TJG300 WITH 1000L HOPPER
OPICO has announced the launch of the TJG300 with Stocks Ag 1000L steel hopper.
The direct drill is 3m wide, with 20 spring loaded discs spaced at 150mm centres. Featuring a pressurised steel hopper with a 1000L capacity for reduced refill frequency and interchangeable feed block rollers, for sowing a variety of seeds. A High Capacity feed block can be specified for sowing arable crops, and when specified with a high-capacity fan it can achieve seed rates up to 320 kg/ha. Other feed blocks can be used to give further flexibility and the ability to seed grassland, SFIs and cover crops.

T-SLOT TECHNOLOGY
The trademark feature of Simtech drills is the opener disc ahead of a distinctive, patented T-slot Z tip coulter. This proven design consistently places seed at a uniform depth in its own micro-environment, providing the ideal conditions for
germination and crop establishment. The “inverted T-slot” concept was first invented by John Baker in 1976, while it has been developed and refined by various manufacturers since then, its core principle remains unchanged; a simple, yet highly effective design.
The Z Tip coulter creates a 40mm wide opening with a permeable base in which to place the seed. In grassland, growing roots from the existing sward are pruned which allows the newly placed seed to germinate and outcompete the remaining species when stitching in to existing leys. Where the drill is used to establish a new ley or arable crop, the seed is placed in a free-draining, weather-proof micro-environment ideal for germination and early growth.

SEED METERING

THE NEW VERVAET HYDRO TRIKE 3.0
Vervaet has launched the new third generation Hydro Trike selfpropelled slurry and digestate applicator. The Dutch specialist manufacturer of self-propelled sugar beet harvesters and slurry applicators has carried out significant development in almost every area of the new machine: more tank capacity, a stronger drivetrain, increased rear lift capacity, a new tyre configuration and improved cab comfort.
The New Hydro Trike is available in two configurations: three-wheeler (17m³ tank) and five-wheeler (21m³ tank). Both tanks are more than 1m³ larger than their predecessors.
PUTTING MORE POWER TO THE GROUND
Thanks to Vervaet’s new VSG 2.0 transmission, the Hydro Trike 3.0 delivers up to 45% more tractive power in the lower speed range of 0 to 10 km/h: from 100,000 Nm to 145,000 Nm. This is essential on hilly terrain and for working with today’s increasingly wider and heavier application tools. The rear linkage lift capacity has also increased significantly, from 5,000kg to 10,000kg, making the machine suitable for heavier implements.
NEW ENGINE AND COOLING SYSTEM
The New Hydro Trike is equipped with a 530hp Mercedes MTU engine. The cooling system is now 50% larger and upgraded for use in temperatures up to 50°C.
NEW MIDDLE AXLE
For the five-wheeler with 5x5 drive the driven centre axle has been redeveloped with axial piston motors and reduction gears. This new middle axle has 30% more tractive power compared to its predecessor.
MORE EFFICIENT SLURRY SYSTEM
The slurry system of the new Hydro Trike consists of a 9,000l/min or 13,500l/min Börger positive displacement pump combined with Vervaet’s well-known Cyclone macerator. Optionally, the new Hydro Trike is available with the Vervaet Superfill system, which reduces loading time by 90 seconds, using a turbo filler on the suction arm with a bypass directly into the tank. Diameter of the suction pipe is also increased from 8 inches to 10 inches for greater capacity during high-rate applications.
WIDER TYRE CHOICE, MINIMAL SOIL COMPACTION
A higher front fork allows larger front wheels to be fitted whilst keeping the machine’s overall height below 4m. New rear tyre sizes, such as the BKT 1020/55 R38, can be fitted without exceeding a three-metre transport width. Wider 1250/50 R32 tyres only marginally exceed this making the machine 3.2m wide. Compared to the previous Hydro Trike, all tyre configurations provide approximately 30% more contact surface area giving a total figure which outclasses many larger self-propelled machines. The new Hydro Trike has an ultra-light footprint for minimal soil compaction.
NEW CABIN AND USER INTERFACE
The New Hydro Trike receives the new Claas X11 cabin with more room, better all-round visibility and improved sound insulation. EFFICIENT PERFORMANCE, SMART COMFORT AND UNCOMPROMISING VERSATILITY
Claas is replacing the successful Axion 800 series with three new large tractors from the Axion 8 CMatic range. .
Featuring the new Visor front design, these all-rounders impress with their new cab –with noise levels reduced to a maximum of 67 dB(A) – premium seats and the new Cebis connect terminal, as well as intelligent adaptive drivetrain management, efficient engines, the new Cemos Auto Powertrain and futureproof digital connectivity. Furthermore, in combination with a Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), fully automated operation with pre-planned work orders is possible within the framework of driver-supervised Autonomy.
EFFICIENT, RELIABLE AND EASY TO MAINTAIN
All Axion 8 CMatic models are powered by the latest-generation NEF 6.7 six-cylinder engine from FPT, with a displacement of 6.7l, a maximum power output of 264hp to
313hp and a maximum torque of 1,132 Nm to 1,282 Nm. Peak power and maximum torque are available across a wide rev range and even at low engine speeds. The new Dynamic Power management system, part of the new Cemos Auto Powertrain, intelligently and automatically adapts engine power to every operating situation and distributes it via the gearbox, power take-off shafts, hydraulics and auxiliary consumers precisely where it is needed at any given moment.
The system continuously analyses electrical power requirements, optimises the settings and thus ensures high productivity and low fuel consumption at both full and partial load, thereby reducing operating costs. In combination with the CMatic continuously variable transmission and Auto Droop (also part of Cemos Auto Powertrain), which adaptively and automatically adjusts engine droop to conditions of use, this delivers more power with lower fuel
consumption – without any extra effort. During idling, the engine speed is reduced to 650 rpm – this saves fuel, provides relief to the environment and lowers the noise level when the tractor is stationary. For easy and effective clearing, the cooling packages can be simply folded open; a reversible fan can be fitted as an option. During operation, the optional reversible fan keeps the radiators free of dirt and dust. The engines are approved for operation with hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO), which enables a reduction in the CO₂ footprint of up to 90%.
With a view to cost-effectiveness and total cost of ownership (TCO), maintenance intervals have been extended, amongst other things. For example, oil changes are now scheduled every 750 operating hours instead of every 600, and the replacement intervals for the most important filters have been extended by 150 to 300 operating hours.
SMART POWER TRAIN WITH AUTO LOAD ANTICIPATION FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE AND DRIVER COMFORT
The Axion 8 CMatic large tractors also rely on tried-and-tested, mature hardware when it comes to the continuously variable, power-split transmission. The electronic drivetrain management system, however, has been completely redeveloped and enables tuning optimised for performance, comfort and efficiency – with an even higher level of automation. This means that even less experienced drivers can operate at the highest levels of performance and efficiency across all areas of application. Depending on the tyres fitted, 40km/h is achieved at an efficient 1,300rpm, whilst 50km/h is reached at just 1,400rpm.
Just as with the larger Axion 9 CMatic, drivers can use the new vehicle drive controller to switch smoothly between driving directions, as well as between pedal mode, joystick mode and PTO mode without any changes in engine speed or vehicle speed. In every driving mode, override via the ground drive pedal or the CMotion is possible at any time without interruption – for truly stepless driving of the highest standard.
Pioneering is the innovative adaptive drivetrain management system – featuring the Auto Load Anticipation function, which continuously and proactively optimises engine speed and gear shifting based on a self-learning algorithm and various efficiency maps for the engine, continuously variable transmission, hydraulics and auxiliary units. Thanks to this ‘artificial intelligence’, load spikes – such as when lowering an implement into the ground –are detected in advance, and the engine speed is proactively increased, with gear shifting adjusted accordingly, before the load spike occurs. This ensures that handling remains stable even during dynamic changes and prevents drops in engine speed. Further functions of this innovative technology regulate engine speed and gear shifting depending on load, driving speed and hydraulic demand. This ensures that
the required power is delivered under all conditions of use whilst minimising fuel consumption. The result is highly dynamic yet fuel-efficient driving performance, without the need for manual input or action from the driver.
In addition, Cemos Dialog provides a further driver assistance and machine optimisation tool. Depending on operating conditions such as soil type, working depth and other parameters, Cemos Dialog recommends the optimum ballasting and tyre pressure for the front and rear axles to the driver.
GREATER SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY DURING TRANSPORT OPERATIONS
The automatic trailer overrun brake, a feature designed to provide even greater safety when driving on roads with trailers and attached implements, is also fitted to the Axion 8 CMatic. A new feature is the option to have the Axion 8 fitted ex-works with Nokian Soil King VF tyres (rear axle up to 710 70/R42 with a diameter of 2.07m), particularly for applications involving a high proportion of transport work, in order to further optimise efficiency and economy during road journeys.
HEADLAND MANAGEMENT AND TRAMLINE MANAGEMENT ARE FURTHER AUTOMATED
The Auto CSM function of the GPS Pilot steering system in Cebis connect provides significant relief to the driver by
automatically triggering the individually programmable sequences of the CSM headland management system when entering or leaving the headland. This achieves a new level of automation and thus provides relief to the driver.
For precise track guidance with the GPS Pilot in Cebis connect, the optimal reference lines can be planned in advance in CLAAS connect based on the field boundaries, then used and shared with just a few clicks – for example, from the Evion, Trion or Lexion combine harvester when leaving a swath to the following Axion 8 CMatic with square baler.
The new automatic reference track change function automatically detects the appropriate or logical reference track based on the vehicle’s position and direction of travel, and switches automatically between different reference tracks. This means that, for example, when switching to headland reference tracks or when working out wedges with a different reference track, the driver does not need to intervene to switch these manually – a significant reduction in workload.

These machines were an essential part of commercial nursery production, eliminating weed seeds, pests and soil-borne diseases before potting. This is a substantial, heavy-duty British-built machine and is becoming increasingly difficult to find, making it an ideal restoration project, collector’s item or display piece for enthusiasts of vintage horticultural and agricultural machinery.
