This is generally the busiest and best time of the year as owners prepare for shearing and look forward to the safe arrival of this season’s cria.
But this year we are living and working in lockdown. This issue would normally include a full report from the BAS National Show but after all the hard work and preparation that goes on behind the scenes this flagship event, which welcomes almost 100 exhibitors, was cancelled. And as we continue under restrictions to prevent the spread of the global
pandemic that is Covid-19 a summer show season seems increasingly unlikely. But alpacas still need to be cared for and shearing must still takes place to ensure their welfare is safeguarded as temperatures rise. BAS has put together a set of guidelines to help ensure shearing take place as safely as possible without contributing to the spread of Covid-19 – see our news report and advice from DEFRA.
Our contributors have also made sure we have an interesting magazine including worthwhile practical advice.
