MEET OUR NEWEST STAFF
AswesaygoodbyetoDebRymerandSuziJanda,ourwonderfulESOLManagerandher AdministrativeAssistant,wewelcomeStaciStocklosandMelindaMatzentotheVPCstafffamily. DebandSuzi’simpactontheprogramhasbeenprofound.DebservedasavolunteerESOL teacherpriortobecomingtheprogram’sleaderduringthe2013 2014schoolyear.Amongher manyaccomplishmentsasESOLManager,Debbroughtherdataandanalysisexpertisetothe programandimprovedteachertrainingandstudentachievement.Whilethewholeworldpivoted tozoommeetingsduringthepandemic,imagineportingaprogramwithhundredsofstudents, dozensanddozensofteachers,andmultiplegeographicalsitesandtimezones!DebandSuzi handledthetransitionexpeditiouslyandexpertlyforbothstudentsandteachers.Mostlocal ESOLprogramsshutdownduringthepandemic,butDeb,Suziandtheirvolunteerteamof teachersprovidedseamlessinstructionthroughout.
PleasejoinusinwelcomingStaciandMelindaastheycomeonboard,determinedtomaintain theexcellentqualityofthisbelovedVPCministry.Weareblessedtohavesuchwonderfulservant leaderswithaheartforreachingouttotheimmigrantswhowillsogreatlybenefitbylearningto speakEnglish,forgingnewfriendshipsandrelationshipsintheESOLcommunity,andgainingthe confidencethatcomeswithcommunicationskills!
WhileMelindaisafamiliarfacetomany,havingattendedVPCforseveralyears,wewelcomeStaci forthefirsttime.WearegratefulforStaci’sextensiveexperiencewithESOLinstructionand management,aswellasherexpertiseasaneducationalconsultant.
WealsowelcomeAprilMasseytothestaffastheCongregationalCareandFellowship AdministrativeAssistant.AprilwillbeassistingPastorConnieJordan HaasandCharlesGeschiere inVPC'sCareministry.AprilhasbeenamemberofVPCsince2006andispleasedtosupport CongregationalCareandFellowship.Overtheyears,shehasvolunteeredinChildren’sMinistries andbeeninvolvedinseveralmothers’groups.
MelanieNunez,whoservedastheCongregationalCareAdministrativeAssistantsince2020has transferredtotheOperations/HumanResourceministryteamandnowbringsherbackgroundin HumanResourcesandofficeadministrationtotheOperationsteam.Melaniewillsupportthe operationsteamwithhumanresourcetasks,andwillprovideadministrativesupporttoassist staffandcongregantstoserveandgrowintheirfaithinChrist.

InFall2017,afterretiringfromfull timeemployment andseekingwhatGod wasplanningformynextjourneyinlife,afriendsharedherloveforVPC worshipservicesandtheFoundationsclass.Sheinvitedmetojoinherthe nextSundaymorning,andassoonasIenteredthenarthex,IknewIwasina welcomingcommunityofChristianbelievers AttheFoundationsclass,Iwas askedtointroducemyself,sharehowIlearnedabouttheclass,and immediatelyfeltpartofthegroup WhenIwenttothe11:00worshipservice, thesermonbyPastorPeteJamestouchedmyheartandbroughtastrong desiretoliveouthismessage.Themusicbroughtbackcherishedchildhood memoriesofwhenIworshipedwithmyparentsandsangthosewell loved traditionalhymns.IprayedandpraisedtheLordwithacheerfulheart,andfelt trulyblessed!Overthenextfewweeks,IknewIhadfoundanewchurch home

InSpring2019,aftermuchprayer,IbecameamemberofVPCandshortly afterwardswasapproachedaboutbecomingaDeaconbeginningin2020 HavingalwaysattendedchurchesthatdidnothaveDeacons,Iwas uncomfortableaboutthisinvitation Nevertheless,Iwasblessedtobeasked andplannedtomeetwithPastorDavidJordan Haastodiscusswhatmyrole wouldbeandwhetherGodwascallingmetoserveHimandVPCinthis capacity.Aweekbeforemyappointment,PastorDavidwenthometothe Lord.IamstillsaddenedthatourmeetingnevercametofruitionasIhadnot yetmethimpersonally However,theLordfaithfullyprovided,andafew weekslaterIwasblessedtomeetwithPastorCharles Throughourlengthy dialogueandprayer,assurancereplacedmyunsettledness,andIcameto believethattheLordwasindeedcallingmetoserveasaDeacon.Believingwe areallblessedtobeablessing,IcantrulysaythatIhavebeenmoreblessed byVPCthanalltheblessingsIcouldpossiblyhavegivenothers,andam thankfulforallthatthechurchhassogenerouslygiventome

WesHildebrandtstartedattendingVPCin2008andwasimmediately attractedtothegrandeurofthesanctuaryandthefriendlinessofthe congregation.HecontinuedtoenjoytheBible focusedand ecumenicalpreachingofPastorsPeteandGlenda,andinmore recentyearshefoundPastorConnie'sresponsetothetragedyinher ownlifetobetrulyinspirational.Wescurrentlyparticipatesinor leadsApprentices,DivorceCare,MondayNightMen'sGroup,Great Banquetweekendsandreuniongroups,andRefuel.Heishappyto beformalizinghismembershipatVPC.

ElizabethHowsareishappytobejoiningVPC!Elizabethwas drawntothechurchbyhowwelcomingeveryoneis!Shehas alsobeenimpressedwiththevariouschildren'sministries. Sheandherhusbandhavebeenmarriedalmost10years andhave5childrenages6andunder.Theymovedto ViennaduringCOVIDandareexcitedtohavefoundachurch home.HerfavoriteverseisRomans3:22 24.

DonnaisexcitedtojointheVPCFamilybyReaffirmationofFaith.Wh “seasoned”Christian,thePresbyteriancatechismisnewandunfamil However,sheiseagertolearnandembracethe“Presbyterianway”, upwiththeChurch’smissionstatement,andsharehergiftsofservice andhospitality.DonnawasinitiallydrawntoVPCbythewarmfeeling shereceivedfromthemembersandthePastors.Shewasfurther attractedbytheoutpouringofChristlikeloveshowntowardsthe community,aswellastheloveandsupportsheexperiencedfirsthan fromVPCmembersintheCareMinistryandthroughoutthechurch.The weeklysermonsfromPastorsHope,Connie,andGlenda“sealedthe deal”forherdecisiontomakeVPChernewchurchhome.Donna’s favoritescriptureisDeuteronomy30:15 16.Donnarecentlymovedto NorthernVirginiaandresidesinVienna.SheisanActivitiesCoordinator foranindependentseniorlivingfacility.Shehas3childrenand3 grandchildrenandisacaregiverforher101 year oldgrandmother.

ElainehasbeenattendingVPCforaboutfouryearsandhasmade thecommitmenttobecomingamember.Sheisattractedtothe vibrancyofthechurchshownthroughthemembersoftheYouth Choir,theoutreachprograms,andtheenergyofthepastors,to nameafew.Throughouthercareer,Elainehasbeeninserviceto othersasalibrarianinpubliclibraries,asaU.S.ArmyLibrarianin Stuttgart,andasaschoollibrarianfor28years.Shehopestofind hernicheinserviceatVPC. 1Corinthians2:9isafavoriteverse.

KenandClaire,alongwiththeirchildrenRyanandCampbe aredelightedtobejoiningVPCbytransferfromBurke PresbyterianChurch.KenandClairearecelebratingtheir 20thweddinganniversarythisfall Ryanisaseniorand enjoyinghisfinalyearonthevarsityswimteamand coachinghissummerswimleague.Campbellisajunioran isenjoyingvarsityCheerandDiveteams.TheMcCrackens weremembersofVPCfrom2009 2015,andareexcitedtob back.TheyaredrawntoVPC'srevisedmission,music,and steadfasthospitality,andarelookingforwardtoexploring allthewonderfulopportunitiesavailable.Afavoritefamily bibleverseisPhilippians4:13,"Icandoallthingsthrough Christwhostrengthensme."
