The goal of the topographical transformation project was to recreate an object that contains space with four different models. There are three different types of cardboard models (vertical, horizontal, and eggcrate) and a skin model made from a material of your choosing. For my skin model I chose to make it out of translucent duct tape and coffee stirrers. This project took a lot of time, precise measurements, and an understanding of how to use cardboard effectively.

DESIGN 1:

TOPOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATIONS

The goal of this project was to experiment with patterns, colors, and textures. The first step was to create a stamp and construct three different patterns with it. The next step was to experiment with color by creating a color wheel, a plaid pattern, then lastly to recreate one of the original patterns from the stamp using color.

The last step was to investigate texture by folding paper. This project shows the importance of good craftmanship and percision.

As you walk through the visitors center, you are able to first experiance Paul Roldolph’s, Walker Guest House. Afterwards, you can enter into the vistors center where you will be able to enter into galleries where you can learn about the Walker Family, Paul Rodolph, and finally, about the Guest House itself. Those galleries are then followed by outdoor reflection areas that allow for you to digest everything which you have just learned.

The collage project allowed for the development of both analog and and digital design skills. After carefully curating pictures taken at the Art Museum, these pictures were collaged in a way which gave the veiwer an understanding of the feeling which was felt at the site. At the courtyard of the Philadelphia Art Mueseum, the focus is on taking a moment to look at the city skyline and appreciate it’s beauty.

VISUALIZATION 2:

MONOGRAPH PROJECT

Midcentury modernism represents a type of expression which is seen in the 20th century but more specifically the time period between the 1920s and the 1960s. Examples of midcentury modernistic ideas range from the Las Vegas sign, to Frank Sinatra’s music, and even encompasses many famous buildings and well-known architects who are still influential today.

There are many indicators that a building was constructed in a midcentury modernistic style. These include, clean lines, emphasis on bringing the outdoors inside (usually through large windows), and finally a minimalistic design.
