Please join us at our 50th Annual Sale. It is an amazing time to be in the cattle business. The market fundamentals indicate these record high beef and cattle markets to last for an extended period. It is a great time to own superior Angus cattle, and we can help you grow your herd with profit improving Angus genetics. Our family started raising and selling Angus cattle 129 years ago. Since 1895 we have remained dedicated to the needs of our customers. For the past three years we are thankful to have earned one of the most successful Angus bull sales in the country because our cattle improve our customers’ profits. In this sale we are giving you the opportunity to gain access to some of our very best females that produce our industry leading bulls from the heart of our herd and the herds of our outstanding Cooperator Team.
We believe that producing Cows that STAY & Steers that PAY is the best way to achieve our #1 goal of improving the profitability and sustainability of our customers. We are focused on producing cows that breed early every year, calve unassisted, raise high-value offspring and have tremendous functional longevity. We strive to raise cows that are highly fertile with good feet while being efficient in both reproduction and feed conversion. We believe it helps if they are conservative in size so that she best fits the environment with minimal input costs. Remember the Profit Equation:
PROFIT = INCOME – EXPENSES.
The Angus breed with the help of CAB (the most successful marketing program in the history of the beef industry) has done an amazing job of improving post weaning growth and marbling. As a result, the beef industry is producing more high-quality beef per cow than ever in history. We are all for Prime beef and consumers have proven they love it and are willing to pay more for it. However, we must remain steadfast to the needs of
commercial cow calf producers. We must work to make sure that the increased value in the cattle after they are weaned and leave the ranch doesn’t come at the expense of the cow/ calf producer who ends up with larger mature cows that eat more and cost more to keep in production. Notice these graphs showing the AAA genetic trends (with $EN inverted to show the added costs the average Angus cow incurs through only 4 calves.) As a wise ol’ cowman told me years ago, “Whatever you do, DON’T MESS UP MY COWSS!” Therefore, we are focused on producing conservative sized cows that are not too big, not too small, but just right. We have been feed efficiency testing for almost a decade to help us identify cattle that do more with less and to me that is a great definition of sustainability.
The industry has known for decades that FERTILITY AND LONGEVITY ARE THE MOST ECONOMICALLY RELEVANT TRAITS in cattle production. Thank you to the AAA for the years of research to develop EPDs for these traits to help us identify genetics in cattle that increase profit for cow/calf producers. These include $M, Heifer Pregnancy, $ Energy and Functional Longevity. In addition to using these outstanding tools from the AAA, we have also been using selection tools from both the $Profit and Method Genetics databases for over a decade. All three of these genetic evaluations are focused on accurately identifying genetic differences between cattle for economically relevant traits. However, each of these platforms has their own unique and scientifically sound techniques that give us more tools in our toolbox. We strive to use genetics that excel in all three systems.
Projected EPDs of matings are calculated by simply averaging the EPDs & Indexes of the sire & dam. This is a great method to help select matings that best fit your EPD targets. This is our 31st year printing Parental Average EPDs in our catalogs as a CONVENIENCE FOR OUR CUSTOMERS
We have been blending the best genetics from both colors of Angus together for 27 years. This is a great way to incorporate NEW, PROVEN OUTCROSS GENETICS with decades of selection behind them focused on strong maternal cows that stay & steers that pay. We have three females and 12 bulls in this sale with these new outcross genetics.
There will be great food, fun and fellowship. We welcome you to come join us as we share our success through superior Angus genetics at our 50th Annual Sale here at our ranch and our home in Throckmorton, TX.

$Ranch:
Profit from birth through weaning. Includes:
• Fertility, Milk, Growth
• Cow feed intake and mature size
$Feeder:
Profit from weaning to harvest. Includes:
• Feed conversion
• Carcass value
• Carcass weight
$Profit:
Puts it all together. $Ranch + $Feeder.
• One number that predicts your bottom line!
The $Profit, $Feeder, and $Ranch financial indices are economic models that predict the return on livestock purchases and sales. Literally thousands of intake records allow us to estimate feed intake and feed conversion EPDs. These values are then incorporated into our $Profit, $Feeder, and $Ranch financial indexes.
Selecting for Feed Efficiency:
How F:G (Feed/Gain) Works: Predicts differences in the amount of feed a bull’s progeny will consume to produce one pound of gain.
Fertility EPD:
The Fertility EPD predicts differences in the calf crop percentage expected from a bull’s daughters! High Fertility EPD bulls will build cow herds with consistently better breed back and deliver a higher percentage of calves to the weaning pen. Higher Fertility also lowers cow herd culling requirements which reduces replacement rates; which in turn reduces cow herd depreciation costs and provides a larger percentage of the heifer calves that can be sold.
