It’s not often that you find a World’s Greatest Horseman and Cow Horse Million Dollar Rider whose roots run deep into a ranching background. Clayton Edsall’s horsemanship and natural talent are a product of his upbringing. Clayton is not only a talented horseman, but he is also the true definition of a cowboy. He was raised in Montana and grew up on his family's cattle ranch. Ranch life demanded the efforts of the whole family, which Clayton is appreciative of. He grew up managing a variety of tasks such as branding, doctoring, roping, and farming, along with riding and training horses. Clayton’s passion for horse training began at a young age, and at 17 he decided to leave the ranch to further his knowledge of horse training. He studied and worked with some of the best horsemen around such as Joe Wolter, Brian Neubert, Tink Elordi, Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance.
In 2005 Clayton entered his first Snaffle Bit Futurity and finished as finalist. Since then, he has been successfully competing, training and conducting clinics. Clayton makes well rounded performance horses that are good outside of the arena gathering cows, as well as preforming in the show pen. Clayton humbly believes that his success is dependent of a lot of hard work and resiliency. The Brown family will provide three fillies at three stages in training for Edsall’s demo. All three horses are consigned to the afternoon’s horse sale.

Along with other family traditions, our family is pleased to provide a few engaging events on Tuesday that will benefit two charities close to our hearts. The WRCA (Working Ranch Cowboys Assoc.) Foundation has been a cornerstone to provide financial assistance to working ranch cowboys and their family members through crisis, natural disasters and scholarships. The War Horses For Veterans provides combat veterans and first responders the tools for growth personally and professionally through exceptional horsemanship at their facility near Kansas City. Highlighting the benefit auction will be a breeding to resident ranch stallion, TAKE A PICK, and to the extraordinarily talented BET HE SPARKS (LTE $248,539). A couple of housekeeping announcements. We have limited phone service on sale day but that is also the great thing about being able to utilize the online bidding service that CCI offers. We will sell all horses in catalog order. The horse will become the responsibility of the buyer as soon as the gavel drops. Horse transportation will be the responsibility of the buyer. We have limited abilities to care for the horses after the sale so please try to pick them up or make arrangements within 24 hours. R.A. BROWN RANCH For over 125 years, this historic family business has been producing some of the top cattle and Quarter Horses in the industry. R.H. Brown began selling Angus bulls in the 1890s, and the Throckmorton, Texas ranch was established in 1895. In 1906 R.H. brought the first Hereford cattle to Throckmorton County. His son, R.A. Brown Sr., grew up working at the Fort Worth Stockyards and during the summers worked at the Throckmorton ranch. At the age of 15, R.A. moved to Throckmorton to help during the severe drought. The extremely cold winter of 1917 nearly wiped out the cow herd. Instead of going to school, R.A. hauled wagon loads of hides 60 miles to Abilene, trading them for cotton seed cake to feed the surviving cattle. In 1965 R. A. “Rob” Brown, Jr. began managing the ranch at the age of 26, following his father’s death. Rob and his wife Peggy steadfastly guided the ranch’s course for many years. The reins were passed again in 2013 and now the ranch is owned and operated by their four children—Jody and Betsy Bellah, Rob A. and Talley Brown, Todd and Marianne McCartney, and Donnell and Kelli Brown. After more than a century, it continues as a family ranch with the sixth generation taking an active role on these ranches. R.A. Brown Ranch has a long and rich heritage of involvement with horses and an unbroken chain of leadership in the AQHA. R.A. Brown Sr. is credited as being one of founders of this legendary association, and his son Rob was elected AQHA President in 1995. Fittingly, both have been inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. Keeping the leadership tradition alive is Rob A. Brown, who is currently on the AQHA Board of Directors. Lanham Brown currently serves on the AQHA Ranching Committee, the NRCHA Non-Pro Committee and is VP of the RHAA (Ranch Horse Association of America).
