REFLECTING BACK ON 50 SALES

ARE YOU STILL DOING WHAT GRANDAD DID?

Tucker came home from a conference a while back where a speaker challenged the audience with this question, “Are you still doing what Granddad did?” As the 5th generation to own and manage the R.A. Brown Ranch, I wish I could have met my grandad, R.A. Brown, as well as his father & Grandfather, R.A. Brown.

My Grandfather was attending TX A&M when his father died, and he came home to run the ranch. My dad was the first to graduate from college with a degree at his beloved Texas Tech in Animal Husbandry (with the help of Mom to get through college with severe Dyslexia.) Dad came home to the ranch with lots of ideas and motivation to make it better using the science he learned in college. But his dad, my granddad, was very traditional and risk averse like so many people that grew up during the Great Depression. The ideas and visions of my father were squelched for many years until 1964 when my parents spent time with my grandparents at our ranch in Colorado. During that time, Dad & Grandad agreed on more things than they had ever agreed on in their life. a clear vision to start implementing Dad’s vision for the future of the ranch. The day my parents headed back home, my grandad had a massive heart attack and died. Dad was 28 years old when he assumed the responsibility of running this ranch.

I am confident that our ranch has achieved so much success because my dad received his father’s blessing to go forth and make progress.

AIR TRANSPORTATION: Wichita Falls: 75 miles, Abilene: 75 miles, Dallas/Ft Worth: 150 miles. For those with private planes, Olney, TX is 30 miles away and has three 5100’ runways. The N/S is lighted. They also have E/W and fuel availability 24 hours. Please call us well in advance if you need us to pick you up. The Throckmorton Airport recently closed.

HEALTH: 1) To insure that our cattle are healthy and to provide you with healthy cattle, we have a strict vaccination, herd health and biosecurity protocol. 2) All cattle have been VACCINATED to prevent Blackleg, IBR, PI3, BVD, BRSV, Vibrio, Lepto and Pinkeye. 3) All bulls in this catalog are CERTIFIED AS VIRGINS unless otherwised marked. 4) INTERSTATE HEALTH PAPERS will be provided for animals going to states that only require the specifications listed above. Any additional testing (i.e. Brucellosis or TB) will begin after the sale and those interstate health papers will be ready after all testing is completed. If you plan to haul your own cattle after the sale across the state line, please check with your state veterinarian to make sure your state will receive cattle from us without additional testing.

FERTILITY GUARANTEE:

All bulls and females are guaranteed breeders as described in the “Terms & Conditions” at the back of this catalog. All of these bulls passed a breeding soundness exam (BSE) by one of our Veterinarians. None of us can afford a bull not doing his job. Bulls can become temporarily infertile due to fever, excessive heat, injury, diet (whole cottonseed or poor diet), etc. We have experienced this with bulls we purchased with breeding soundness exams and took for granted that they were still ready to breed cows. We recommend that you fertility test all your bulls 30 days prior to each breeding season every year. If you find a bull infertile prior to or during his first 60 days with cows, please contact us immediately. After a second failed test, at least two weeks after the first, we will replace the bull or give you credit, according to the “Terms & Conditions” in the back of this catalog. Getting your cows pregnant is a high priority for us.

DELIVERY of BULLS and FEMALES:

Please see the detailed information on our Delivery Service, pages 12-13.

INSURANCE: Mortality Insurance will be available for purchase on sale day from Ag Defense Risk Management / Shari Holloway (pg 216).

FUTURE CARE:

We appreciate your investment in R.A. Brown Ranch genetics and want to make some recommendations to help you protect your investment. These bulls are ready to go straight in with your cows; however, the stress of the sale, hauling, and relocating these animals can weaken their immune system; therefore, we recommend that you check them daily for a couple of weeks. If you don’t put your bull in with cows right away, we recommend that you put your bull with another animal so that he is not by himself. Cattle are herd instinct animals and feel more comfortable with a friend. If you plan to mix your new purchase with other bulls, we recommend that you do not do it in a small pen, but rather the larger the pasture the better so that they have room to get away from each other. If you have to mix bulls, it is better to mix several at one time that have not been together, than to just put one or 2 into a large group. We recommend vaccinating for Vibrio/Lepto and fertility testing your bulls 30 days prior to the breeding season each year. 18 month old bulls can be used very effectively when turned out with one cow per month of age (18 months - breed 18 females). Remember they are still growing and losing their baby teeth so they may need some extra care after their first breeding season.

BUYING OPTIONS:

BUYING OPTIONS: Obviously we prefer for you to be with us on sale day but, if you are unable to make it you have three options: 1. Log on to DV Auction & bid on the internet (see info at top of next page). 2. Personalized Bull Shopper. We will be glad to find you the bulls you need, within your budget. To utilize this option, like about many of our long-time customers, please call Donnell Brown as soon as possible so that we can discuss how we can help you. 3. Customer Service Representatives. These men will be here and have studied the bulls. They can also put their eyes on specific cattle for you.

MORE INFORMATION: We want you to have all of the info you need to make the best decisions. To view more information, you can visit our website at www.RABrownRanch.com to sort the animals and/or view their data in spreadsheet form. Also, we have included registration numbers on the registered animals so that you can look them up on the internet. If you want more information about these bulls and/or females than what is in this catalog or on the web, please call and ask prior to Sale Day. In an effort to simplify the process, we have included the information in this catalog that we believe to be the most useful tools in describing genetic merit of each animal for economically relevant traits. To contact Donnell or Kelli Brown, you may call the ranch at 940-849-0611 or email us at kelli@rabrownranch. com.

Ratings Guide

Our exclusive Star Rating System is designed to help summarize all of the data and simplify your selection process. It takes into account all information available, along with some “cowboy common sense” to rate each bull for the 5 most economically relevant traits: Calving Ease, Growth, Carcass, Cow Herd and Efficiency. These ratings are consistent throughout the catalog so that you can compare all bulls across breeds. EPDs and Indexes are the most precise tools for selection within a breed and now can be used to compare Red Angus, Black Red Angus & SimAngus, however, EPDs are not comparable across all breeds yet. Angus are different.

The more stars a bull has, the better he is for that trait. Each bull is rated from 0 to 5 stars in each trait. Our Five-Star rating is the same as it has been in the past and designates elite bulls in

each category. For Growth, Carcass, Cow Herd & Efficiency, a bull has to be in the top half of the industry to even get 1 star. A Five-Star rating is only given to the cream of the crop, the most ultimate. Others have tried to emulate our system, but most imitations simply use some stars as a marketing tool to help them sell what they have rather then helping you buy what you need.

Use the individual EPDs and their respective percentile ranks to most accurately determine which bulls can help you best meet your specific needs. For example when looking at the Growth Rating, if you sell your calves at weaning time then you should look more specifically at WW EPD. For Carcass, if you need more quality grade then put more emphasis on Marbling EPD.

You may notice that our Calving Ease ratings are much more conservative than what many breeders and breed associations may recommend for use on heifers. We believe it is better to be safe than sorry. This doesn’t mean that you never have to assist one at calving, because sometimes calves are born backwards or have a leg turned back. Even the best and most proven Calving Ease sires in the industry will get a big calf every once in a while. Our goal is to help eliminate calving difficulty to the best of our ability and therefore help you manage risk.

OWNERSHIP - We are selling full possession, full salvage value and 1/2 revenue-sharing semen interest in every bull in this sale. This means the bull is totally in your control in how you want to handle him plus you get 100% of the salvage value of the bull. We are retaining 1/2 revenue-sharing semen interest in every bull in this sale. This simply gives us the right to half of the semen sales revenue from the bull if at some time in the future, semen sales become a reality.

If you choose to sell the bull to anyone else, R.A. Brown Ranch (and Cooperators) retain our semen interest in the bull. If you wish to buy a bull in this sale and would prefer that we did not retain a semen interest, then please talk with us about it prior to the sale and we will consider selling the bull(s) to you without us retaining an interest and make that agreement in writing prior to the sale. The buyer may elect to purchase as much additional semen interest as you desire by paying the additional pro-rated amount. For example you can purchase 2/3 or 3/4 semen interest by paying an additional 33% or 50% of the final bid price respectively.

If a buyer is not interested in marketing the semen

COMPLETE Stars is a new category that we implemented this year to help identify the bulls that do the most things right for all economically relevant traits. The more stars in this category means they are the MVP- Most Valuable Producer. We calculate this star category with a formula that combines all other star categories plus all of the selection indexes like $Profit, $Ranch, $Combined, API, TI, GM etc. It could also be called All-Purpose, Comprehensive or Total Merit.

Our Cow Herd stars are designed to help you select bulls that will produce better replacement females that are easier keeping, medium to smaller sized and have a medium milk production with better fertility and Stayability. Research and experience tell us that these females are more likely to stay producing calves in your herd for many years and therefore improve your profitability.

This Star Rating System is simply a tool to help you quickly find the bulls that fit your needs. Then you can take more time studying the details to find the bulls that best fit your more specific needs.

from a bull then R.A. Brown Ranch reserves the right to collect a semen bank on the bull at our cost and the buyer’s convenience. That semen would be 100% owned by the R.A. Brown Ranch for our use or marketing.

EXCLUSIVE SEMEN MARKETING RIGHTS - The buyer may elect to purchase exclusive semen marketing rights on any bull in this sale by paying double the final bid price on the bull at the time of the sale. In the event that the buyer elects to purchase exclusive semen marketing rights, then R.A. Brown Ranch retains the right of first refusal on the purchase of natural service rights of the bull if the original buyer decides to sell the natural service rights and or possession of the bull anytime during his lifetime.

REALISTICALLY SPEAKING - It is unlikely that large amounts of semen will be sold from very many bulls. However, the reason we are keeping an interest in every bull, is that we want to keep it simple and we have great bulls scattered throughout the sale. The bulls that do develop a market for large amounts of semen can be very financially rewarding; therefore, as a breeder of some of the best seedstock in the industry, we want to share with you in these bulls. Even bulls sold to commercial herds may become popular at a later time, especially if carcass data is collected on their calves. We want to be a great partner with you.

SEMEN RIGHTS - Buyers receive semen rights proportional to the interest purchased. Therefore if you purchase a 1/2 revenue-sharing semen interest then you are entitled to 1/2 of the semen collections at cost provided that you indicate that you want semen prior to collection. If you choose to collect semen from one of these bulls as an “insurance policy” for your own use, that semen is 100% yours, but before any semen is collected on any bull in this sale, R. A Brown Ranch must be notified.

for any reason by the buyer. We can have Interstate Health Certificates for all animals that are going to states that accept cattle without additional testing. However, if your state requires additional testing like TB or Brucellosis, then that will be done the week after the sale and we can provide Interstate Health Certificates as soon as vet has all of the requirements met including permits from the buyer’s state.

TAKING DELIVERY ON COMMERCIAL FEMALES

All commercial females sell FOB the ranch they sell from as described in the catalog. The buyer is to coordinate directly with the seller of the heifers to coordinate picking up the heifers.

PREFERRED DELIVERY POINTS

The destinations on the chart have been selected as “Preferred Delivery Points.” Please select the two delivery points that are most convenient for you. Drop points may be adjusted after the sale time depending on the location and purchases of each buyer. Please keep in mind that this is a guide for “Preferred Delivery Points,” not guaranteed delivery points. We will be glad to calculate the cost to additional delivery points after the sale. Please give us your home, office and mobile phone numbers so that we can contact you (and anyone else that may be involved in receiving your cattle) in regard to the delivery of your cattle.

RISK and INSURANCE

As outlined in the Terms and Conditions in the back of this catalog, all cattle become the risk of the purchaser as soon as they are sold. To protect your interests, insurance will be offered & can be purchased at settlement time. The cost of this insurance is minimal and we encourage all buyers to consider buying it to cover the potential mortality of your investments.

Our PARTNERS

“Our team is thankful for all of these partners. Their service and products help us build a better bull.”

Food, Fellowship & Fun

The TEAM Introducing

We are fortunate to have some of the most astute cattlemen as a part of this team. You will see that each lot in the sale shows which herd they originated in.

These cattle follow the same genetic plan that ours do. They have very high targets to meet to be considered for the program including weight per day of age, optimum epds, health protocol, verified parentage, genomically enhanced, structure standards, no creep feed and most importantly, integrity in the data.

The cooperator bulls are born and raised at their respective ranches and then delivered to Throckmorton after being weaned at least 45 days. Once here they are co-mingled,

branded, and developed for at least eight months. Under our care, they are evaluated multiple times for feet and leg structure and disposition. They are developed right along side our own and treated as such. We take all of the yearling measurements including ultrasound, yearling weight, yearling height, scrotal measurements, and most of them are feed efficiency tested. Finally, they must pass a fertility test to be included in the sale day offering.

Simply put, buy with confidence. Together we are proud to offer bulls that have not only met the highest standards but come to you with one goal in mind....to make you, our customer, more profit.

MOM AND DAD

I give thanks that I am still able to work with my entire family and side by side with my dad throughout my entire life. He started giving me lots of responsibility shortly after I came home to work with him. Now here I am almost twice as old as he was when he had to take the rains to this ranch by himself. Dad is approaching 90 years old and although he is not driving anymore, I go pick him up several days a week and together we make a circle around the ranch. He insists that he gets a gate (every once in a while) but I get most of them, like I did for all the many years when he was driving, and I was in the passenger seat. I have a renewed appreciation for opening those gates for my dad and am blessed to have his continual advisement and friendship. I am also very thankful for all the many years of council, suggestions and love from Mom. Dad received his father’s blessing, but lots of credit also needs to be given to Mom for helping carry the torch with Dad while also being an awesome wife, mom, grandmom and financially sound business partner. Every time I go to their house to pick up Dad for our drive, I always get a hug from Mom, questions about what is happening at the ranch and usually some words of wisdom.

THE TRANSITION

Mom & Dad did an amazing job of “KEEPING THE RANCH IN THE FAMILY AND THE FAMILY IN THE RANCH.” You may remember our complete dispersal in 2013 culminated the transfer of the family business from Mom & Dad to us 4 kids and our families all of whom are still ranching on our different parts of the ranch. Kelli and I have been running the seedstock business since the late 90’s but 11 years ago we became the sole owners of the RAB Headquarters unit including the Bull Business. For those of you that wonder about the whole family tree....we decided to diagram it for you! We’ll work on the “expanded version” next time as it is quickly multiplying. What a blessing.

Angus Bulls

This may be the best Angus bull in the sale. He is by far the highest $Ranch Angus bull in this sale so if you are looking to make steers that pay & cows that stay then this bull is for you. His mother is a beautiful donor cow that sells as lot 548. Thanks to the Angus Association for opening the pathway to bring in fresh new superior Angus genetics from the Red Angus gene pool. This is registered with the AAA & the RAAA. These are his Red Angus EPDs.

This is a super bull and the only bull in the sale that earned the maximum 5 star rating for all 5 economically relevant categories. This is one of those All Around or all purpose bulls that looks great too. His name is SHADRACH, read more about why in the notes on his amazing mother who sells as lot 501. She endured the fire and has 8 outstanding sons in this sale that are all maternal brothers to our most used bull of 2024 - Brown GTLS Titus.

The EPDs on these black reds are from the Red Angus Association and are not directly comparable to Angus EPDs but I believe the % Ranks are a good proxy to make comparisons. The $Profit numbers are directly comparable across all breeds and so are my Star Ratings. So buy with confidence. Take a look at the amazing growth and carcass strength in this bull that scores high for all $Profit numbers from $Profit all the way to Feed Efficiency. This is the money making kind.

This bull is the 2nd highest $ $Ranch & 6th highest %Profit of all Angus & Black Red Angus bulls in this sale. His mother was an amazing cow that continues her dominance and the highest $Profit of all Red Angus or Black Red Angus animals in the entire database. I love the look of this bull, He is medium to conservative in his frame size but loaded with muscle. I love it when bulls do everything really well & look good doing it.

Total Completeness. This good looking bull earned 24 of the maximum 25 stars for excellence. High Security is a great sire who’s daughters are highly fertile and productive. You will see lots more of these in this sale & for the next few years to come. This is a bull you can breed to heifers and sleep all night through calving because they should come easy. Then they will grow like crazy, hit the jackpot on the grid & make great replacement females.

Here is the 4th highest $Ranch and 5th highest $Profit black Angus or Black Red Angus bull in the sale. He is a big time winner for FERTtility and feed efficiency (F:G). Most breeders don’t even measure these traits, but we go the extra mile to make sure our bulls do as many things right as possible to help improve your profitability and sustainability in the cattle business.

Angus Bulls

We have been blending the best of both colors of Angus together for 27 years and they continue to be some of the best bulls and females in our program every year. Buy these bulls with confidence and realize that if your cows are all (homozygous) black then all of your calves by these black Red Angus bulls should be black and eligible for Certified Angus Beef premiums.

Tahoe is another great cow making bull and this son is one of the most feed efficient bulls ranking better than the top 1% for F:G. Breed these black Red Angus bulls to cows with a red gene, like a black baldie and you still should get 75% black calves. The great news is that you get the best of both colors of Angus in your herd and therefore produce better steers that pay & cows that stay.

$

$

Fertility is the most economically important trait in the cattle business and this bull has by far the highest Fertility metric in the entire sale. He is also the #1 $Ranch bull. Therefore he should make amazing daughters with excellent fertility and longevity. But more than that, he aloe earned 5 stars for both growth and carcass.

WHAT WE ARE DOING?

Are we still doing what Grandad did? Literally no, but strategically yes. We continue to remain customer focused and use all the tools we have available to make the best possible decisions. Since Grandad died in 1965 the tools have improved, the technology has advanced, and the pace of change has accelerated. The paradox of change is that change has never moved this fast, and it will never move this slow again. Moving forward we are committed to doing what is best for you, our customers, with a vision of improving your profitability and sustainability in the cattle business through sound science, technology and business principles. Personally, we are committed to our faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ as well as the best interests of our family and the God given gifts and callings each are blessed with.

GENERATIONS 5, 6 & 7

Kelli and I have been married 33 years and she is such a blessing and essential part of our family and business. This catalog and many other things in our family and business are only possible because of her hard work and dedication. Like my mom, Kelli is the business and finance mind of the family and the glue that holds everything together. We are very thankful that both of our sons have come back to join us in our family business.

Tucker continues to grow his influence through social media, a You Tube channel and now his own podcast, Registered Ranching. He continues to make a big difference as a big advocate for agriculture, faith and family while continually making us laugh. He is also doing a great job of growing our R.A. Brown Ranch Beef business selling direct to consumers & through some retail stores. His wife Karley does a great job as the kindergarten teacher here in Throckmorton and they have been blessed with two wonderful little girls, Rayley & Brooklyn.

Lanham continues to grow the family business with his amazing success in training and showing our ranch horses. Big wins for him in the past year include winning the non-pro divisions of the Snaffle Bit Futurity and the World’s Greatest Horseman competition, plus many more. Josey is the first Dr. Brown of the family and works in a physical therapy clinic in Graham while also helping Lanham with the horses.

We are blessed and give thanks to each of you for the opportunity you have and continue to provide us through your investments in our genetics so that we have and continue to raise generation after generation of our family in this business.

This bull is tied for the 2nd highest $Ranch Angus

We liked this bull so much that we selected him to naturally breed our registered heifers & cows after AI season. Notice he earned our maximum 5 Star rating for CE, Growth & Carcass. Don’t let his work clothes fool you, we had him out working so he is a little leaner than the rest. This bull & every bull have been trich tested free and are guaranteed sound functional breeders. Use this bull’s experience to your advantage.

High Security is one of my favorite sires because he does so many things right. There are a dozen of them in this sale and you will see many more in the yeas to come because he continues to be one of the highest use Angus Sires in our breeding program. Notice how this bull is so complete that he is one of the few in the entire sale that earned a total of 22 out of 25 total stars with excellent WW, Carcass, $B & $C.

We select for good feet because you deserve it.

Like lot 12, this is Angus bull with Red Angus heritage with decades of selection pressure from both colors of Angus to produce Goldilocks sized cows that are deep bodied, easy keeping, thick made and high marbling. Thanks to a change at the Angus Association a couple of years ago we can now registered homozygous black bulls like this one with both Angus Associations. Both of them tell us this is an outstanding bull .

We love the Tahoe sire group and have used him heavily. In fact there are 16 Tahoe sons in this sale. Notice this one earns 4 stars in the new COMPLETE category because of his multi-trait excellence. Usually it’s the ones that do the most things right and the least things wrong that make you the most money. Like this bull.

This is the first of 8 bulls in a row like lot 12. They are homozygous black and in the process of being registered with the Angus Association. These are their Red Angus EPDs. But remember you can compare $Profit numbers and the Stars across the breeds. Plus I like to compare the % Ranks of the EPDs and find that helpful in comparing Angus & Red Angus. This is also the 1st of 3 full brothers.

CONFIDENCE PLUS 1449L CONNEALY CONFIDENCE PLUS

Here is the 2nd full brother in a row and he earned one of the highest tabulations for $Profit, $Ranch, $Feeder, Fertility. The Gridmaster Index is comparable to $B in Angus & even though you can’t compare the number, you can compare the percentile rank. We will include their Angus EPDs on the spreadsheet on our website for you to search and sort prior to the sale.

CONFIDENCE PLUS

CONFIDENCE PLUS 1439L

This is the 3rd of 3 full brothers and I love this mating of Confidence Plus and Sure Fire. Their mother is one of my favorite cows of all time and still the highest $Profit of all Red Angus & Black Red Angus animals in the $Profit database that includes data on over 1.5 million cattle. It is a great genetic evaluation that helps us compare animals within and across breed for both income and expenses ; therefore best describing profit.

$ PROFIT $

Need more growth? Want to sell more pounds in the right package? Take a look at this bull that ranks in the top 1% for Weaning Weight, Yearling Weight, Average Daily Gain and the Gridmaster Index (Similar to $B in Angus) and $Feeder. This is the money making kind and he looks amazing also.

Angus Bulls

Remember, we are in the middle of 8 Angus bulls that will be registered with the American Angus Association by sale time. Yes, these are Red Angus EPDs, but we will have their Angus EPDs in the sortable spreadsheet on our website. They will produce all black calves, no reds. Well I guess they can produce smokey colored calves out of Charolais cross cows just like every other Angus bull registered with the American Angus Association.

We love the Confidence Plus sire group because they do so many things right. We love his daughters because they make great cows. This is a full brother to the next bull & they are 3/4 brothers to lots 33, 34 & 35 all being out of outstanding Sure Fire daughters.

Confidence Plus is the largest sire group in this sale with 23 sons selling. This bull has had a huge impact on our program and will for years to come through his daughters. Sadly he is no longer with us and his semen is rare. In fact the semen to make these cost 6.5 times the average semen price. But it was worth it to make outstanding bulls like this in volume. A full brother sells as lot 103.

This deep bodied, easy keeping, thick made bull boasts the highest Gridmaster Index in the sale. Gridmaster is comparable to $Beef as both identify cattle that are best at producing cattle that make the most money after they leave the ranch and go to the feedyard and sell on a value based grid.

Five stars for the new COMPLETE category. This stout made beast is a paternal brother to lots 2 & 3. They are really good for growth, carcass and cowherd traits. Look him up on the sortable spreadsheet on our website and notice that his daughters will make highly fertile and efficient mommas that are the right size - like Goldilocks. Notice how this bull ranks high for $M & $C as well as $B & $Feeder. Plus this bull is a leader for feed efficiency.

They are black Angus bulls that are registered with a different Angus Association The are a blend of the best Angus & Red Angus genetics and are what we call our Black Red Angus.

This is a full brother to lot 13 and their mother is the lead off cow in our sale today as lot 501. You will enjoy reading the story about her. Thankfully she is very prolific and has 8 total sons in this sale. Notice the overall genetic excellence of hits bull. He is one of the best. I can’t think of a good reason not to buy these black Red Angus bulls - When bred to straight Angus cows their calves will all be black and eligible for Certified Angus Beef.

This bull leads us into a group of more conservatively sized bulls that are stout made and easy keeping with less overall feed needs for them and their mature daughters, but still producing fast growing calves with strong carcass merit. These bulls will be great at making Goldilocks sized cows that are not too big, not too small, but just right.

Are you tired of your cows that have gotten too big and they are eating you out of house & home? Take a look at this outstanding bull that will make amazing replacement females that are more conservative in their size and have added efficiency so that they stay fat on not much more than scenery.

Angus Bulls

This bull can help you produce highly fertile, super calf raising momma cows with added growth and carcass value. Some may ask why he only has 3 stars for CE when he has such good EPDs. The genomically enhanced EPDs are by far the best indicator of what to expect in his offspring. But because he weighed 81 pounds at birth, he did not meet my criteria to earn 4 or 5 stars for Calving Ease. I am conservative and hedge on the side of safety.

You are sure to like this calving ease specialist. He is the front pasture kind that all of your neighbors will be stopping along side the road to look at him. Notice his super marbling as well. Making better beef helps please the consumers who continue to show they are willing to pay significantly more for Prime beef.

Talk about calving ease, this bull is a super choice for breeding heifers. Your help, your wife and your heifers will thank you for buying this bull because they will spit those babies out like watermelon seeds.

This is one of the 16 Complete sons in the sale & Complete describes them very well.

this sale has had a clean Trich test regardless of whether we used them or if they are virgin bulls like 95% of the bulls in this sale are.

Super Calving Ease. Why use a Longhorn, Corriente or Jersey on your heifers when you can get the same level of calving ease with these 5 star bulls. Plus you get so much more value in your calves because they are Angus that grow so much more, look better, and bring you more money. This is the same fantastic mating as the bull above and we used them both on our family’s heifers.

Be careful walking behind your heifers when they are calving if they are bred to this bull. If they cough, you might get hit by a flying calf. They should come out really easy. Plus the daughters should make great cows. Notice his 5 Star Cowherd rating and his $100 $Maternal Index. This is the kind you need & yes you should keep heifers out of your heifers when they are bred to bulls like this. Because your heifers

Conservatively sized bulls like this is what you need to improve the fertility and efficiency of your cows to improve your profits by reducing costs & having fewer open cows to cull.

This is the 4th highest $Beef bull in the sale at $218. Notice he is also the #2 $Feeder Index bull in these Angus bulls. $B & $Feeder are very similar indexes. One is calculated by the Angus Association and the other by the $Profit team. We use both databases to give you and us more tools to help make better selections. Buy with confidence. We started feed efficiency testing almost a decade ago to help you produce more with less and improve your profits by decreasing your cost of production from conception to the rail. Get a jump on the competition by buying bulls that have been tested for feed efficiency so that you can do more with less.

Here is a 3/4 brother to the bull above. If you want to see his outstanding mother, she is selling in this sell as lot A27 on Tuesday evening and she will be on display.

Here is the 1st of two full brothers and 3 Complete sons in a row. I love the type and kind of the Complete cattle and how their daughters make amazing replacement females with beautiful teats and udders that make it really easy for the calf to nurse.

I want to thank Certified Angus Beef for improving the value of black hided calves and I thank 44 Farms for improving the demand for and value of Angus cattle with strong genetics for carcass traits like this high marbling bull. Look at the stars on the next page - they are even better for growth and carcass and just like this bull - all the black ones will be eligible to receive Certified Angus Beef Premiums.

Holy Cow, or I guess I should say Holy Bull. Did you notice how we went from 3 & 4 star growth and carcass bulls to a whole group of bulls that earned 5 stars for both traits. You should buy them because they will produce great calves for you that have the genetics to make you more profits. When bred to straight black cows, every calf should be black and will be eligible for Certified Angus (CAB) Premiums. This is the highest Gridmaster Index Bull in the sale.

The depth of quality of this bull offering is amazing. Here we are 81 head into the sale with a bull that could be in the first 5 lots of most sales. He is a fabulous feeder calf maker, a big time carcass premium earner and remarkable replacement female maker. His dam was one of the highest selling females of all time in our program and is known as Goldilocks because she is just right & so is this son.

Here are 2 of the 16 Complete sons in this sale and they are loaded with growth and carcass excellence.

5 Star Growth & carcass with 4 star cowherd genetics to make super momma cows that stay & steers that pay. This is one of the top feed efficiency bulls in the sale also.

This is the 4ths highest $Profit bull in the entire sale. His mother is an awesome cow.

Yes I realize that not everyone blends the best of both colors of Angus together like we have for the past 27 years. But you need to know that the people who have bought these bulls in the past keep coming back to buy more and we continue to make more because they are some of the best cattle we own and some of the best cattle in the business.

This is about the time in the sale when people look around and realize this Angus bull ranks in the top 1% for WW & YW. Even though the EPDs are on a different base & different scale , this bull has more growth than 99% of all other Angus bulls regardless of color. I see customers start to ask themselves why not. Why not buy a black Red Angus bull that has the genetic excellence I am looking for.

All the others register both colors of Angus & Black Red Angus.

More Angus bulls that excel for Growth & Carcass traits. Bulls like this bull make your calves more valuable because they grow faster and produce a better carcass.

Check out the amazing feed efficiency this bull has in his genes. We are building a supply chain focused on high quality Angus beef of both colors with a sustainability story. Feed Efficiency and the ability to do more with less is an important part of our sustainability story. You should buy feed efficiency tested bulls because better feed to gain (F:G) improves your profits every day of their life. Notice the next 6 Angus bulls also

Feed Efficiency makes you money every day of an animals life because every day they perform more with relatively less nutrition (feed or grass). Buy this bull to produce more pounds more efficiently. Notice this bull leads us into a group of bulls that rank in the top 1% for the best Feed Efficiency and rank better than 90 to 99% for $Profit and $Feeder. These are the money making kind. You should buy some Black Reds and see for yourself.

The cool part about this group of bulls is how they excel for Growth and Cowherd traits to help you make more efficient and fertile replacement females while making calves that grow fast and press hard on the scales at market time.

This is about the time in the auction where I start to see the wheels turning in the minds of the buyers that have only been buying Angus bulls that are registered with the American Angus Association (which there is nothing wrong with that). They begin to look around again and consider buying one of these black Red Angus. When they do buy one they nod their head with a sense of accomplishment and pride.

Angus Bulls

This is the most feed efficient black Red Angus bull in the entire sale.

Here is a full brother to lot 38 & 39 that are both homozygous black & registered with the American Angus Association. The EPDs, Indexes, $Profit and Stars are pretty close to the same on all 3. Do you think your cows or the buyers of your calves will know the difference of what Angus Association the registration papers come from? Maybe you should buy all 3 of them.

Sleep easy knowing your heifers are bred to one of our 4 or 5 star heifer calving ease bulls and know that the calves will sell for top dollar too. My friend Jim McAdams used to use Jersey bulls for calving ease & they do produce small calves, but they don’t grow and they can be really hard to sell unless you have a good market for roping calves. Jim affectionately referred to his Jersey’s as Bug-eyed Wheezers.

Many seedstock producers recommend Angus EPDs of double digit calving ease and negative birth weight EPD. I think that is a good place to start, but some of us are more risk averse than others. Bulls like this can work pretty well for lots of people. But we are committed to go above and beyond to identify varying levels of calving ease to make sure you get the calving ease bull you want.

Getting a live, healthy calf on the ground and up nursing is priority #1 in a calving ease bull for me. #2 is to add as much growth and value to the calves after they are born as possible. These Black Red Angus bulls are backed by generations of accurate birth weights and calving ease scores reported, genetically evaluated, DNA tested and pedigree validated just like the Angus bulls are in this catalog. You can compare the stars across breed & color.

This is one of the 16 Complete sons in the sale and Complete they are because they do so many things right. If you are looking for sleep all night and enjoy sweet dreams while calving heifers then you should use these 4 & 5 star bulls. Your heifers will thank you and I bet they will never know what association the papers of the bull came from.

Angus Bulls

Here we are at lot 122 & this outstanding bull is displayed on the front row and has the genetic excellence to match his amazing eye appeal. He has better Calving Ease and lighter Birth Weight than 95% of all cattle in the RAAA database with DNA enhanced EPDs that counts for about 25 calves worth of proof. However, we missed getting this calf weighed at birth. Therefore I moved him to 3 stars just to be safe.

REFLECTING BACK ON 50 SALES

THE 1ST 25

We hope you will enjoy a trip down memory lane as you flip through this catalog and see many pictures from the past 50 years of friends, cattle, horses and facilities that have all changed a little through the years.

I was 6 years old at our First Annual Sale that we held under a tent using portable panels. Some will remember the chickens I used to sell at the beginning of each auction to raise money for the West Texas Rehab Center. Later we upgraded to selling bird dogs as well as hunting and fishing trips to help raise money for those in need.

We built the big red barn to have a permanent structure to host our sale in 1983. I remember we were finishing the last welds just before the auction started. It was a 3-sided barn over the roping chute in our arena to make it as multi-purpose as possible. Kelli and I returned to the ranch after college in 1993 and started working from the ground up. We worked 16 years for a salary of $2,400 per month for the both of us. Dad & Mom always encouraged us to grow the business, so we started our Cooperator Program in 1997 which helped us grow from 250 bulls to 800 sold annually. It was 2000 when we broke ground on our new Bull Development Center and that sure helped us better develop bulls and grow to better serve the needs of you, our customers. From the beginning we have sold age-advantage bulls with more maturity that are grown out slower and safe on a high roughage diet that helps develop them for longevity while testing them for performance.

The First Catalog & Advertisement

Be careful walking behind your heifers when they are calving if they are bred to this bull. If they cough, you might get hit by a flying calf. They should come out really easy. 4798 head of our customers’ cattle have sold through the R.A. Brown Ranch sale ring.

We Invest in our Customers’ Cowherds...

We invest in the science and technology necessary to deliver the most efficient and profitable cow herd building genetics to our customers. Then we provide cutting edge genetic selection tools and training so customers can make the best informed bull buying decisions possible. We understand those decisions are even more important when ranchers raise their own replacements because they’ll live with the results of their selection for a decade or more. These efforts ultimately enhance the genetic value of the replacement females they keep as well as those selected to sell through our bi-annual sales.

Our October, 2024 sale will feature a hand-picked offering from several of our long-time customers - each one backed with multiple generations of R.A. Brown Ranch genetics.

R.A. Brown Ranch

Wednesday, October 9, 2024

Commercial heifers will sell following the Black bulls and just before the Red Angus bulls.

Our Customers’ Best

Our customers represent a healthy mix of some of elite ranching operations across the southern plains as well as the beef industry’s rising generation of superstar cowmen and cattlewomen. They share a common appreciation for profitable beef genetics. Through the front-end bulls they purchase in our annual sales, and the balanced trait calving ease sires they use A.I., these ranchers have developed some of the most sought after, ranch-ready replacement females in the industry. And, they are willing to share their “keepers” in our annual bull sale.

How the Commercial Heifer Sale will work:

• Consignments will all be videoed prior to the sale and will be available at RABrownRanch.com along with the bull videos.

• Larger groups of heifers will be sold in “gate-cut” of approximately 10 head. The successful bidder will have the option of taking any/all consecutive 10 head sorts from the same lot and at the same bid price.

• The following pages contain general descriptions of each ranch’s entire consignment as well as delivery information. Our Sale Day Supplement will have any updated palpation/ultrasound information and how that impacts the exact head count for each lot.

• The Commercial heifer lots represented in this catalog will be sold FOB their respective consignor’s ranch.

Breeding Guarantee: All commercial females identified as “Bred” have been determined pregnant by a competent ultrasound or palpation technician. If prior to December 1, 2024 it is determined (by competent palpation/ultrasound technician) that one of the commercial females you purchased in this sale is not pregnant, then please call us and you will be reimbursed (by the seller ) the difference between her purchase price and the salvage value you receive for her.

ADDRESS THE STRESS

PROTECT YOUR BOTTOM LINE AGAINST REDUCED APPETITE AND WEIGHT LOSS.

EACH BUYER WILL RECEIVE A BOTTLE OF FERAPPEASE ® WITH THEIR BULL PURCHASE.

Stress happens every time cattle are handled, transported or commingled. Cortisol levels increase from stress impacting appetite, health and weight gain. Studies demonstrate FerAppease® reduces the impact of stress on calves treated:*

• Reduced cortisol levels

• Improved appetite

• Increased weight gain

• Improved immunocompetence

• Improved health response, better recovery

• Decreased mortality

REFLECTING BACK ON 50 SALES

THE PAST 10 YEARS

We started feed efficiency testing in 2015 and built our new Marketing Center in 2019. Dad was shocked when he first saw the freshly poured foundation. He exclaimed, “Oh Son, you have really messed up. It is across the road from the pens, and you will have to block the only road to get the cattle in the barn.” I replied, “its OK Dad, we are not running them through the ring, we are showing videos of each animal instead.” The video transition had happened a few years prior, and people have appreciated the ability to look at the videos online prior to the sale and see the live animals in the pens. They have not missed getting manure and saw dust slung all over them and no one misses the ones that didn’t want to leave the sale ring. Just 6 months after the grand opening of our new marketing center – “social distancing” became the expectation, so we expanded the barn by 50%. In 2021 & 2023 we added more bull development pens.

Now we are planning another addition to the Marketing Center making room for more space to fellowship under cover during our events. We want our sales to be events where people want to come enjoy good fellowship, good food, good education and good livestock even if they don’t need to buy anything.

Docility Score Every RAB bull is individually scored 1-5 for docility where 1 represents the most docile.

$PROFIT is an Economic Selection Index comparing bulls’ impact on profitability over their productive life (100 calves).

$RANCH is an Economic Selection Index comparing bulls impact on profitability per calf when keeping replacement females and selling calves at weaning time.

$FEEDER is an Economic Selection Index comparing bulls’ value as a post weaning feeder calf. Growth, Feed Efficiency and Carcass Value are included.

% RANK compares an individual animal to all Red Angus that have been evaluated in $Profit multi-breed genetic evaluation of over 1 million head.

FERT EPD Fertility predicts differences in females’ ability to get pregnant and raise a calf every year. A higher FERT EPD predicts greater lifetime fertility, which will result in higher $Profit and $Ranch.

Red Angus

This 1st Red Angus bull is very special and so is his maternal brother, Lot 13 who is the 1st Black Red Angsus bull and their mother leads off our female sale (see her picrure & read her story as Lot 501.) No other animal can match his Red Angus EPD combination and his $Profit numbers are stunning as well. This bull has huge potential to be a big time sire in the breed. You should invest in this outstanding bull.

Here is an opportunity to tie into a maternal brother to the $120,000 Brown Authentic. The dam has knocked it out of the park again with an outstanding herd bull that is filled to the brim with performance. These pounds offer premium profitability with his top ranked MB, CW, REA, $Feeder and elite 4-star carcass rating. With credentials like these he can exceed his famous and valuable sibling.

OH, MY! This herd bull combines phenotype and genotype as well as any bull in the offering. He will be easy to find in the pens with his moderate build and tremendous volume. His exciting EPD and index lines allows a multitude of mating flexibility. Especially when you consider his virgin heifer calving ease, combined mature cow performance, and end product merit. His outcross pedigree that hails from elite black genetics is icing on the cake.

WOW! This stud is one of the highest $Profit Red Angus in the sale. Check out the top of the chart ranking for $Feeder that he offers. If you or your customers market on a grid you had better be tying into bulls like this one. You can certainly see how he attains such a feat by how he blows apart the antagonisms of marbling and muscling with superior ratios of 111 IMF and 116 REA to along with off the chart MB and top ranked REA. Notice his balanced calving ease and performance as well.

it all. His most important trait? His profitability!

Here’s a chance to own a maternal brother to Brown Noble K6728, one of our

and incredible $Ranch and you might have the top cow maker to sell so far today.

What a performance line! This big-time herd bull absolutely destroys the antagonisms between birth and growth with ratios of 116 weaning and 108 yearling with a 94 birth ratio and only a 66 pound actual birthweight. You can certainly see why he scores an impressive 22 out of 25 stars. He also ranks right at the top of the chart for $Profit and $Feeder. Imagine a set of feeders out of this guy!

$

If you or your customers get paid by the pound, this stud needs to be on your “buy” list. Imagine the extra profitability that he offers from just the extra pay weight that he can produce with his single digit rankings for WW and YW. Expect those pounds to be worth a premium as well with the tremendous end product merit he offers from a MB that is at the very top of the chart. He will put out the red meat as well with that CW and REA. Little wonder he gets 5 stars for growth and carcass.

Boy, I sure do like how this guy offers so many great traits and offers it all in a

keeping cattle that he can produce. FYI-Get these Genuine sons while you can, semen is in very short supply.

Feed efficiency is

quality that he offers with a top of the chart ranking for MB, as well as off the chart rankings for GridMaster Index and the aforementioned $Feeder. Use bulls like this to get those order buyer’s attention.

Imagine the set of steers that this dude can put out. Those order buyers might get in a fist fight to get a set of calves out of him with his frame, length, muscle and end product profit potential. You can certainly see why he blows the topoff the chart for GridMaster Index and $Feeder when you study his top of the chart rankings for WW, YW, ADG, MB and CW. I’d also like to give a shout out and congrats to Taylor Schuster and Lee Leachman for purchasing his dam as our high selling cow in our March ’22 sale.

When it comes to performance, this guy is loaded for bear. He absolutely crushed it on performance by earning incredible ratios of 117 weaning and 116 yearling! Little wonder that he ranks completely off the chart for WW and YW EPDs and earns 5 stars for growth on our exclusive rankings system. Expect those pounds to be premium with MB that ranks in the single digits.

If you’re looking to produce steers that pay and cows that stay you sure might want to tie into this this guy. It’s easy to see why he earns 5-out-of-5 stars for growth with his off the chart rankings for WW and YW. Notice also that he earns 4 stars (I’m very conservative handing out stars) for carcass and perhaps even more importantly(for many) 4 stars for Cow herd. Take advantage.

WOW! This is a maternal brother to Titus, who is our #1 semen seller in 2024. In addition to a famous brother, this stud also has one of the top EPD

If you missed out on Titus’s maternal brother that sold as the previous lot, here is a chance to own a full brother to Titus (who is one of the best bulls to come through our sale.) Tie into this bull and just imagine the genetic predictability that you are injecting into your herd. Maternal brothers are the lead off Red Angus and Black/Red Angus bulls. This guy is “hidden” a little further down the order, he could easily be the “buy” of the entire sale.

Imagine the fertility that you can inject into your cowherd if you take this stud back to the haciencda with his top ranked FERT. Throw in his top of the chart end product merit and he certainly gives you options on whether you want to keep ‘em and breed ‘em or feed ‘em and eat ‘em.

THE CATTLE AND HORSES

The stock has changed a little through the years as we have bred and produced 17 different breeds and hybrids during my lifetime. The major breeds through the years include Hereford (starting in the1870’s on mom’s side of the family through 1975), Sim x Hereford (late 60’s & early 70’s), Simmental (1969), Simbrah (1979), Senepol (1987) to my Dad’s own invention of the Hotlander composite in the late 80’s and early 90’s. My great great grandfather had Angus cattle 129 years ago and then we got back in the Angus business in 1989 a year after we started raising Red Angus. We added SimAngus in the early 90’s and plan to continue providing what our customers want most. We have sold weaned Quarter Horses through all these many years as well and though the pedigrees have changed a little, the focus remains the same: Raise ranch horses with cow sense and common sense for the needs of our cowboys and customers.

CATALOGS & DATA

Through all 50 sales my mom, sister Betsy & wife Kelli have built every catalog from scratch. The accuracy of the data has always been paramount, and we are so proud of our customers that are very data savvy and demand the most accurate tools to make the best decisions. We have always been data hounds focused on accurately measuring every economically relevant trait possible. It was just BW & WW in the early days and now with automated weighing at the feed bunks and water troughs we capture over 10,000 datapoints on every animal annually. Thankfully we have powerful computers to process and analyze all the information. Our sales started well before EPDs and the tools to evaluate cattle have continually evolved with selection indexes, genomically enhanced EPDs, and now Star Ratings and sortable spreadsheets with the focus of helping our customers accurately select the cattle that make them the most money. Now we are incentivizing our customers to DNA test their commercial heifers to get EPDs on them so they can most accurately select their heifers that have the genetics to improve their profitability and sustainability the most.

The TECHNOLOGY

Advancements in technology through the years have taken us from AI to AI. We started with: AI (Artificial Insemination) and palpation the year I was born in 1969, Embryo Transfer in the late 1980’s ultrasound for carcass merit in 1999 and then for fetal sexing in the early 2000’s. We started using Invitro Fertilization (IVF) in 2008, DNA testing every animal in the 2010’s and started broadcasting our sales on the internet. We put in a Grow Safe (now Vytelle Sense) system in 2016 to measure individual feed intake and feed efficiency, then added in-pen weighing systems in 2023 to automatically weigh each animal as they get a drink from the water trough. Now we are using AI (Artificial Intelligence) to monitor grazing using virtual fencing as well as millimeter radar to capture 3D images of our cattle every time they go through the chute (more details to come.)

Vence (Virtual Fence) One of the many technologies we have implemented on the ranch in the last few years.

and on the value based grid. Notice how our star rating system lights up like the milky way. He is safe to use on heifers & he is really good looking.

This POWERFULLY made big time growth bull is a 3/4 brother to the bull above. If you sell calves by the pound or on a value based grid, this bull is designed to improve your profits. Notice his color is BB meaning he is homozygous black, therefore won’t produce any red calves. PP means that he is homozygous polled and thus none of his calves will be horned. The data tells us they should be really good, black, polled and improve your profits.

This is a front pasture bull with amazing eye appeal combined with super data. Like the lead off bull, he ranks at the top of the breed for the bio-economic indexes that are constructed to identify the bulls that make you the most money with their genetics. He is the highest marbling SimAngus bull in the sale. If you put this bull along the highway, you may need to put a warning sign that says: watch for distracted drivers looking at impressive bull.

Galileo is a new sire for us this year. You can count on seeing more of them moving forward because they are outstanding. Notice that we added a new Star category this year called COMPLETE. The “circle of knowledge” at the local coffee shop commonly makes the mistake of not keeping heifers out of heifers. Red Angus Reference Sires

Brown He Does It All K118
Brown Ideal K1377
Brown GTLS Titus K6257
Brown Authentic K104

You only get one shot at a 50th Anniversary Sale, so we might as well lead-off with one of the most powerful and prolific Red Angus females we’ve ever had the good fortune to be involved with. GTLS Glorify G2701 is the dam to Brown GTLS Titus K6257, who was the 2nd Red Angus bull to sell in our 2023 October auction as the best buy of the day at $21,000 to Craig Roeder and his family at Chasah Ranch who are also members of our Cooperator Team. Titus is now one of the top $Profit bulls in the breed and is our #1 semen selling sire for this year. We are very proud of our long time Cooperators Truett & Lila Spruell who raised this outstanding female. Several years ago, Truett changed his Red Angus breeder code / prefix to GTLS standing for God, Truett & Lilla Spruill. They are an amazing couple of faith and are quick to share that when he got his priorities straight and put God first in his life that blessings started to abound for them. Truett lives near the town of Carbon, TX that was devastated by a massive wildfire in 2022. In that fire, the Spruill’s lost most of their pasture, all their hay, quite a few cattle, plus their home burned to the ground. Sadly, the same thing happened to Truett about 10 years prior in an earlier fire. But Truett reminds me of Job in the Bible. He keeps his head up and looks for the blessings and the great things that God has in store for them. One of those blessings is that this cow, Glorify, survived the fire. She has been a top donor for Truett since she raised her first calf, and she continues to be an outstanding embryo producer. Glorify has 8 sons selling in this sale, including the lead-off Black/Red Bull, “Shadrach”, and the lead-off Red Angus bull, “Meshach” and That’s something no other donor dam has ever accomplished in our history. The other 6 bulls are named after the Biblical story in the book of Daniel and how Shadrach, Meshackhand Abednigo stayed true to their faith in God. As a result, God spared them from the fiery furnace. It was not easy to convince Truett to sell this amazing donor. It took me two years to finally put her in our sale, but he finally made enough embryos from her that he was willing to share her with the rest of the industry. I am confident that her sons that are selling in this sale along with future progeny that are sure to be highlights in our future sales that Glorify’s notoriety will grow and benefit the new owners of this amazing cow. She is a blessing and I pray that she will continue to be a blessing to the Red Angus Breed and to whoever buys her.

We believe this deep-ribbed Genuine daughter will be the next step in one of the most genetically prepotent cow families that ever sold bulls through our sale. Her 113 MPPA dam has 51 progeny to her credit – including 5 in this year’s bull sale. Her 107 MPPA Maternal Grandam is the dam of Brown SW2W Noble K6728 who sold for $36,000 in our October 2023 sale and also has 5 sons in this 50th anniversary sale.

Phenotypically, lot 503 matches up beautifully with her two half-sisters that sell as lots 502 and 523. Mass producing her unique combination of elite marbling and feed efficiency will result in more PRIME premiums, but buying less corn to get it done. Add to that her spread from superior CED to single digit pay-weight and gain and she’ll be able to mass produce those high value bulls that can be used on heifers and still have plenty of horsepower for the cow herd as they mature.

If we wanted to draw a picture to describe the ideal phenotype for a young cow in our herd, we’d strongly consider using Lot 504 for a prototype. But, she’s more than a pretty face. She weaned her first calf with ratios of 105 weaning, 109 yearling, 116 IMF and 109 REA. Her dam is a 104 MPPA donor by Sure Fire, and already has 59 progeny to her credit. All that goodness must be heritable, just look at her daughter that sells as Lot 505.

Warning, you could wear out your computer running planned matings for Lot 506. She’s that good, and she’ll fix almost any sire’s shortcomings. She’s the highest $Profit of any Red female in the sale, and the highest GridMaster index of either flavor. Her highly fertile dam is rapidly becoming one of the most respected producers with a 333-day calving interval and a 105 MPPA.

Lot 507 was just a month old, when her big brother, Brown Authentic K104 became the $120,000 high-selling bull at our October 2023 sale. 5 months later, her dam was the second-high seller in our March 2024 sale. With her breed leading predictions for pay-weight, gain and marbling. Bull customers buying her sons are going to be getting paid for more pounds of PRIME.

UPWARD Y238

If you like them, long, deep, thick and easy on the eyes, you’ll need to own this Tahoe daughter. You won’t have to wait long for her to start paying dividends; just wait for her Titus bull calf she’s got in her belly. He projects $Profit and EPDs that are better than almost all the bulls we’re buying semen on today!

Here’s the slick haired, easy fleshing, black full-sister to Lot 505, and like her very easy on the eyes. Lot 510 is also one of the best combinations of $Profit and $Ranch in the entire offering. Selection for $Ranch over time will tend to moderate mature cow size to allow for more desirable stocking, improve fertility and wean more pounds per acre.

Being over $20,000 $Profit and $100 for $Ranch grants

Lot 515 is a maternal-sister to Lot 503 as well as three bulls in the sale. Her dam is one of the real “cover girls” to ever grace our sale ring, and continues to supply bulls to our sale through our cooperator, Mathias Ranch.

If feed efficiency is a trait you’d like to add to your herd’s repertoire, check out this beautiful uddered daughter of Mill Brae Success 8017. Her mating to the $29,000 Brown He Does It All K118 will be among the first born outside of his ownership group. We used this sire in our carcass test as a yearling and came back and used him in our Red Angus seedstock cows this spring.

Lot 519 and her Black/Red full-sister that sold a few lots earlier both belong to one of our favorite cow families. Their dam is the beautiful 113 MPPA Sure Fire daughter, F1624 that sold to Stephen Williams back in 2021, and now has over 50 progeny to her credit. Their maternal grandam, is the 104 MPPA dam of the $36,000 Brown SW2W Noble K6728 who has become one of our top semen sales sires.

This one is not only the high $Feeder female in the entire sale, but she is also off to a fast start with progeny ratios of 106 weaning and 104 yearling on her first calf. No surprise, her prepotent Bourne dam, earned amazing progeny data with average ratios of: 109 weaning, 111 yearling, 123 IMF and 117 REA.

If your customers sell them by the pound, and get paid on a grid, they need to be buying sons of Lot 525. She dominates for pay-weight, gain, marbling and REA. And, how’s this for an added bonus, ultrasound determines she’ll drop a Genuine heifer calf three and a half months after the sale. Two donor dams for the price of one.

BROWN MS MERLIN J761

We start of a new pen of open yearling heifers with a super sweet daughter of Tahoe. Undoubtedly, her best of breed predictions for Feed Efficiency, gain, carcass weight and pounds will get her marked in your catalog, but when you study her amazing phenotype, rock-solid foot structure, slick hair coat and gentle nature that’s going to seal the deal.

Noble K6728 who became one of our top semen sales bulls during his first year on the market.

Lot 534 is the first of three outstanding Rawhide daughters in this 50th Anniversary Sale, and if it weren’t for an event of this magnitude, she would not be available. Especially given she bred first service AI and is due with a Veracious bull calf on her 2nd birthdate. Her dam got out of the gate fast, earning progeny records of: 110 weaning, 114 yearling, 128 IMF and 110 REA.

need to improve calf value. Ian and Jess Miller of M3 Cattle Company purchased the 104 MPPA dam of Lot 537 in our March, 2022 sale.

538

Expect power and performance to result from this embryo mating. The sire, Complete 7000E was responsible for 4 sons that averaged over $30,000. The dam, SLB PRESSY 170J is the product of one of the most successful cow families we’ve ever been involved with at R.A. Brown Ranch. There were 10 daughters of the Absolute x W7996 mating and most of them were successful donors. Buyer pays three times the bid price and receives the fourth embryo in lieu of a guarantee.

539

This Energize two-year-old comes from the renown F942 cow that was purchased by Mathias Ranch in our October 2022 sale. Study this female’s combination of Calving Ease and Yearling weight. She’s the kind that can mass produce high value “spread” bulls that ranchers fight over.

February. Check out the fetal EPDs of that mating!

Here’s a long-bodied, sound footed Energize daughter that balances 8 traits in the top 20% and excels for calf value traits as indicated by both her GridMaster and $Feeder values.

We lead off a new pen of cattle with the only Prime Time daughter in the sale and she’s special. She’ll compete with any female in the sale when it comes to projecting Feed Efficiency and PRIME Carcass Quality. Maternal sisters sell as Lots 516, 519, 533 and 545.

You’ve got to be ready whenever you get the chance to buy into highly proven cow families, and Lot 545 represents such an opportunity. Her 113 MPPA dam is one of the highest selling Black/Red females

This bred heifer is loaded with the best of outcross Angus genetics and balances 12 traits in the top 25% of Red Angus. Her maternal-grandam is the dam of Lots: 515, 523 and 540.

If beauty really is in the eye of the beholder, you’ll want to make sure your hand’s in the air last for Lot 548. This is one of the most eye appealing females in the entire offering; she’s good footed, slick haired and sound uddered. Best yet, she’s 4 months away from giving you a Titus heifer calf that could be Red and will be really good.

Here we are 20 lots from the end of the sale and the

This young female is just in the prime of her productive life and her 113 MPPA dam is a maternal-sister to Brown SW2W Noble K6728. Lot 551 will start paying for herself just as soon as she drops her Authentic bull calf in January. This could be one of the first sons to sell by the $120,000 leadoff Red. Angus bull from our 2024 sale

If you have clients that retain ownership, they need to be buying sons out of this daughter of the $100,000 LSF SRR President 8177F. Check her amazing percentile ranks for GridMaster, Marbling, REA and Carcass Weight. Her dam is a 104 MPPA Sure Fire daughter, who was purchased by Mathias Ranch.

Red Angus

Yes, we made sure there were some gems deep in the sale order. That’s why we’re leading off this fancy set of Red Angus bred heifers with an own daughter of Della 502. She’s the dam of the $120,00 “High Voltage”, and one of the highest selling females of all time. To sweeten this deal, Lot 556 is due to have one of the first Titus daughters about 90 days after the sale.

The Y6648 cow family strikes again. This time with a well-balanced King Arthur daughter who has 10 traits in the top 25%. Her dam is a fullsister to Oracle that was purchased by Mathias Ranch after earning average progeny ratios of: 104 weaning, 106 yearling and 110 REA with a 374-day calving interval.

This high marbling heifer stacks Della 502 and Y6628, dam of Oracle and Fantastic, in the same pedigree. The Titus bull calf in her belly will be one of the early ones to market and could more than pay for the cow.

564

With single digit ranks for marbling, carcass weight, REA and growth, it’s no surprise Lot 564 is well above the top 1% for GridMaster. Her dam is a 106 MPPA Merlin daughter that sold to Greg Beatty in Pennsylvania during our March, 2022 sale.

REFLECTING BACK ON 50 SALES

WHAT’S NEXT?

This year we will have jewelry for the ladies (or gifts that us guys can buy for those special occasions that we sometime forget). Get a hat or get yours cleaned & shaped by Capital Hatters, clothing from Ag Gear or a peace of history from our RAB Mercantile. The Happy Toy Maker will be here & the kids will have a huge sand pile to enjoy. Plus we will have lots of our allied partners that help us succeed in the ranching business serving you up an experience to remember. Come enjoy as we celebrate our 50th Annual Sale & plan for many more to come.

Editor’s Note: As we were preparing for this celebration, I asked many friends what we should do to make this year special. There were so many folks that chimed in but the text from Rachel Cutrer was too good not to ruminate on. I love her reminder that we can celebrate the last 50 years but it’s especially important to continue pressing forward for the next 50. We couldn’t agree more Rachel. If there’s one thing that this family has always held firm on, it is vision and innovation. That is the legacy of the not only the Brown Family but also of the many employees, interns, customers and friends that have gathered together for the last fifty years. As iron sharpens iron, may we keep each other accountable. Cheers for the next fifty!

Although the view has changed a little over the years, our passion for the beef industry and the bright future of agriculture has not.

GENETIC CONDITION, DEFECT & PARENTAGE GUARANTEE 1) Technology is helping identify numerous genetic conditions that have been in the general cattle population for many years. Those known today include: Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM), Double Muscling (DM), Dwarfism (DW), Hypotrichosis (HY), Alpha-Mannosidosis (MA), Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH), Osteopetrosis (OS), Protoporphyria (PR), Pulmonary Hypoplasia with Anasarca (PH), Syndactyly (SN) (Mule Foot), Tibial Hemimelia (TH), Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH), Contractural Arachnodactyly (CA) (Fawn Calf Syndrome), Parrot Mouth and Developmental Duplications Mutation (DD). Most of these are believed to be simple recessive in inheritance. These condition can be effectively managed by strategic DNA testing and avoidance of breeding carrier females to carrier bulls. All potential carriers of any of these defects will be tested with the results printed in this catalog or in the Sale Day Supplement. Animals tested as a carrier of one of these genes are noted with a (C) after the abbreviation. In the case that an animal is homozygous for that gene, then they will be listed with an (A) after the abbreviation.

The parentage of the animals bred by the Seller is guaranteed to the extent that the animal is by the Sire and out of the Dam indicated on its registration paper. These guarantees are effective for a period of two years from the date of sale only under the following conditions. a) The Purchaser shall notify the Seller in writing immediately upon the birth of a calf suspected of being defective or immediately after determination is made that such calf is defective, or if parentage is suspected or found to be in error. b) The Seller, at his expense, shall be permitted and provided, with reasonable opportunity, to obtain DNA samples of an alleged defective calf and its sire and dam for the purpose of DNA analysis to establish parenthood. In the case of suspect parentage, the Purchaser at his expense, shall be permitted and provided with reasonable opportunity to obtain DNA samples of the animal in question and its sire and dam for the purpose of blood type/DNA analysis to establish parenthood. If sire or dam is indicated on the animals registration paper is proven to be in error by such analysis, the Seller shall reimburse Purchaser for cost of such analysis. c) The animals will be returned by the Purchaser to the Seller at the Purchaser’s expense; provided the animal meets the health requirements for the Seller’s state. d) The replacement of an animal with another of similar value or the refund of the purchase price, in connection with a defect producing animal or an animal whose parentage is in error, shall be deemed full satisfaction and settlement.

2. In the event there is a dispute as to whether or not a calf is defective, or parentage is in error, “determination “referred to in Paragraph 1A above shall be made by a person or persons acceptable to both the Purchaser and Seller. In the event that the Purchaser and Seller cannot agree on the selection of such person or persons, then each of them shall appoint a representative to make the determination. In the event that such representatives fail to agree, a third person selected by the representatives of the Purchaser and Seller shall make the determination.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the Purchasers and Sellers of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Any subsequent sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction.
