From the Principal & CEO Welcome to our first edition of The Dragon magazine for this academic year, in which I expand on the allimportant High Quality Teaching and Learning pillar of Kellett Vision 2035 and we explore the development of the Sports provision in recent years.

The Autumn Term is always our busiest term, packed with wonderful events that create lasting memories for students, staff and parents alike, from Global Outlook Week to the Senior Musical to Christmas Carols. Over the last few months our strong sense of community has been constantly in evidence on both campuses with the Parents’ Committee organising fantastic activities that strengthen the partnership between school and home, whilst also enhancing the students’ learning.

At this special time of year, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the exceptionally supportive community we are lucky to have at Kellett. Our collective grief at the Tai Po Fires was palpable and the compassion with which students, staff and parents responded was deeply moving. Our thoughts remain with those affected.

Thank you for your role in making Kellett the exceptional place it is. I wish each and every one of you a restful break with loved ones near and far.

EN CONCERTO: FOBISIA ADVANCED CHORAL & ORCHESTRAL FESTIVAL Debra Jones - Director of Music (Senior School)

I

n late October, 210 young people from 14 FOBISIA schools from across Asia gathered in the David Kidd Theatre at KLB. Regardless of where they came from, their cultural backgrounds or mother tongues, they all shared a love of music. This inspired the theme of the festival hosted

by Kellett: Peace and Unity.

The repertoire of the festival centred around the powerful choral and orchestral piece, "A Mass for Peace: The Armed Man," by Welsh composer, Karl Jenkins, written to honour the victims of the Kosovo War. The piece

presented a significant challenge for student musicians, who had just two and a half days to prepare for the final concert.

The guest conductors, Jonathan Mann and Celia Leung, treated the students like professional musicians, communicating high expectations, which provided valuable insights into the life of working musicians and resulted in powerful and memorable performances.

The finale performance drew a packed audience and extended to an

audience of over 1,300 online. A standout moment was the unique rendition of "Trilo," a traditional Swedish folk song, which resonated throughout the Senior Atrium as students processed from the upper levels to the stage, leaving the audience so captivated that they completely forgot to clap!

The students who visited Kellett for the Festival left with lasting memories of making magical music, Lion Dances, a Harbour Boat Tour, along with new friendships to carry into the next festival.

More Than a Game Sports@Kellett

BY LAURA TYSON Kevin Paradise joined Kellett in 2020 as our first Director of Sports, with a clear mandate to level up our sports provision. Five years on we check in to see what has shaped the development of sport since then, and how we’re doing.

A

s a child, sports-mad Kevin excelled in football and athletics, strategically planned to cover both UK seasons! Football was, and remains, his first love. Kevin grew up in London, surrounded by football. His grandfather and five of his great uncles played for the same local team and his grandmother’s house backed onto Queens Park Rangers’ stadium.

Excelling at the game from a young age, Kevin played for the borough, before joining premier league clubs Brentford and Chelsea at youth level. All in all he spent about 10 years at a centre of excellence for football, akin to today’s football academies, where he was in the England schoolboys' squad.

Although he didn’t make the big time (multiple injuries played a role) he credits his childhood football journey with shaping his approach to sport in the school context. Fortunately for us, at 18 he decided on a new direction and headed to Surrey University to study sports science, began coaching and working in a gym.

‘What I learned from that journey is that it brings so much with regards to working with teams, socialising with others, as well as obviously learning to win, lose and so forth, just a multitude of skills that you can relate to life,’ Kevin explains.

As Kevin developed his coaching skills, the command-style of learning he’d experienced as a young boy in training was beginning to evolve. He relished the new approach and could feel its potential. Invited to coach for the Football Association, he delved further into coaching methodology and the psychology of motivation.

‘The way I was coached and developed to what is out there now is so different and I think that's been really powerful. Coaching today, we feel our way through it, trying to get students to understand what it is that we're asking of them, whilst questioning and getting their input,’ reflects Kevin.

Kevin’s transition to education began at Orley Farm Prep School

where he met his future wife Nic Paradise, currently a Year 6 teacher in KLB Prep. Not one to sit still, Kevin combined his teaching role with coaching as well as his studies, doing a master's degree in exercise physiology plus a teaching degree.

From there, Kevin moved to Latymer Upper School. Better known for strong academics, he spent nine years developing the football programme to a point where they got to the finals of the Independent School Football Association and quarter finals of the England Schools’ Football Association.

Those foundational experiences in his career have been pivotal in his through-school approach to sport at Kellett, where he has implemented curriculum changes from Reception upwards.

‘I appreciate how valuable those early years teachers are. You have to start to be influenced there. And then as they go through the school, we add at each layer. Students get used to, and understand, the programme,’ explains Kevin.

many similarities to Kellett, coeducational, not-for-profit with a highly diverse student body.

Kevin was appointed into a new role at Kellett, Director of Sport, to, in his words, ‘provide a fresh pair of eyes to look at what we were doing, why we were doing it, what's important to us and what success looks like for a maturing through-school.’

World Class Coaching

He introduced some early changes to set the scene for a new era of sport and took a wholesale look at resourcing, both in terms of facilities and staffing.

Quick Wins One of the early changes he advocated for was the establishment of the House system at Prep level, with the aim of generating more opportunities that would foster a sense of competitiveness and team camaraderie.

Staffing is crucial to his layering approach, and to achieve this he introduced Heads of each core sport, to oversee and coach the development of that sport in both Prep and Senior. The results have been nothing short of exceptional with tournament wins across all sports in recent years and more importantly for Kevin high participation numbers for students playing competitively.

Navigating the logistical challenges of working across two campuses and juggling the use of off-site facilities, Kevin and his Heads of Sport oversee the development of their respective sports from Prep through to U20s.

With an emphasis on developing base skills from an early age, the Heads aim to maximise participation in competitive games, getting students invested, as well as using sport to foster our school values of respect, kindness and integrity.

Starting young & sharing resources As Kevin built the coaching strength bench he was keen for our younger students to benefit from their expertise too. Prep schools study the same curriculum with weekly PE and Games lessons from Reception to Year 6. Similar to Senior, PE classes focus on general motor skills building a strong foundation of basic movement patterns and hand eye coordination. Games, with the help of dedicated coaches, begin building skills for invasion-based team sports, including Netball, Football, TAG Rugby, Basketball and TBall/Cricket. As well as competitive games against other schools, House Sport plays a big role in the Prep sporting calendar, and sees students join their counterpart Prep school to form teams based around their Houses.

collaboration not only raises the level of our teams but also builds a lifelong love for physical activity.’

Power of Participation ‘Our goal is that every Prep student from Year Three should get the opportunity to represent the school in one of our core sports so they can apply their learning from Games lessons,’ Kevin declares.

He believes representing the school is important for even the least ‘sporty’ students. ‘As long as it's at their level, it's meaningful.

That's really important.’

And remarkably, despite the logistical challenges of facilities and limited opposition teams, the sports department achieve this. As well as friendlies with other schools Prep enter all the main Hong Kong tournaments for our core sports in Hong Kong and take part in the FOBISIA Games, which sees all the top British Schools in Asia compete against one another.

Participation is equally sought after in the Senior school. By half term of Term One 2025-26 (two months) 220 Senior students had participated in fixtures. U16 football alone has six teams. Last year there were 320 plus fixtures, 76 teams and 30,220 training sessions (after and before school, not including Games lessons).

Key to making this possible has been a fresh approach to Games lessons from Year 1 up, which are used as a training ground for our core competitive sports. The Games programme, that follows four sport seasons runs from Year 3 to 9. In Senior all yeargroups, bar Year 7, combine to mirror the competitive age groups, providing more time to bond and practice.

students from a team or specific sport perspective, to develop good habits and a personalised training programme in the gym. here are currently 450 Senior students on a program that they follow via a digital platform so coaches can see how they're doing.

Logistics Access to sports facilities in Hong Kong is a challenge for all schools and teams, and Kevin and his team navigate a complex jigsaw each week, complementing school facilities with public ones which are not straightforward to secure.

On an average day, the sports department might be managing Senior teams playing in basketball courts over the road, football games at Kowloon Bay Park, Pok Fu Lam over at the KLB Campus for swim lessons (every child in Y3-11), and regular PE lessons on site.

Layer on sports clubs outside of school which have year groups that don’t align to the UK school system (September to September) and you get an idea of just how complicated the sports landscape is in Hong Kong, and why many schools struggle to overcome the barriers and excel at sport.

Seasons Explained The sports seasons can be a source of confusion for some Kellett parents, as there are four across three terms, something unique to Asia and the Middle East.

Competitive sport in Hong Kong schools is dominated by the International Schools Sport Federation (ISSFHK) and the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation (HKSSF), and Kellett’s season selections aim to align with the opportunities provided by both, with the order varying depending on age groupings.

Senior SportX From Year 10 team sports continue in Games, but students can opt from a wide range of more individual pathways.

‘I think it's really important we get them to understand what team sport is about and some will carry on that journey and really enjoy it.

But ultimately our values are based around students being healthy and carrying on sport beyond school, so we introduced SportX in Games from Year 10,’ explains Kevin.

Typically, half of all students continue with team sports, testament to the coaching and love of team sports nurtured from Prep.

Led by specialists and enthusiasts, SportX gives students the option to switch to table tennis, yoga,

water polo), racket sports (pickle ball, table tennis), striking and fielding (rounders, baseball, cricket), track and field, as well as strength and conditioning all feature.

Senior students have the option to select Physical Education for iGCSE and A-Level. Sam Hill who leads the academic side of sport has seen an uptick in those choosing the academic route with four GCSE classes currently.

Academic PE lessons are timetabled alongside regular Games and PE lessons and expose students to the impact of sport beyond its physical benefits. They explore essential topics in Biology, Physics, and Psychology, allowing students to understand how these sciences intersect with sports

And Sam is thrilled that PE will have a specialised classroom in the new Sixth Form Centre campus.

Housing high-tech equipment, the classroom will give students the opportunity to assess their aerobic capacity and understand the physiological demands of activities firsthand.

Welcoming the addition, Sam explains, ‘This addition complements our existing top-class facilities. With the integration of cutting-edge technology and specialised equipment, students will not only engage with theoretical concepts but also apply practical skills that deepen their understanding of PE.’

‘We produce adaptable, multi-sport players equipped with skills for the future and it doesn't matter whether you're a team player or you're on that individual pathway. Celebrating Excellence Alongside the all-important drive for high levels of participation, celebrating excellence in sport is also integral to Kellett’s sports programme. This is deliberately done in a visual way to inspire and motivate younger years.

Senior Sports Awards are a really special evening with a sit-down meal designed loosely on the BBC’s Sports Personality of the year, where individuals and teams are collectively celebrated. The Preps too have an award event on a slightly smaller scale.

Rewards though, are more than just awards. They also take the form of opportunities to develop important sporting skills such as leadership, umpiring and coaching. Team captains feature on the walls, but they also have a leadership programme which gives them valuable opportunities to help coach and umpire younger year groups. Similarly, the appointment of Sports Prefects provides other leadership opportunities to those attaining high levels of commitment and achievement in sport.

The Student Athletes Mentoring Programme (SAMP) is extended to around 40 of our most gifted sports students in Senior, aiming for about three boys, three girls for each year group. The programme offers a variety of talks and workshops on relevant topics. It might be nutrition, sleep, training, psychology, resilience, or hearing from top athletes. Students who excel in sports outside of our core sports are invited to join relevant sessions, for example our student sailors had a lunch with Jessica Watson, a visiting speaker who sailed single-handedly round the world at just 16 years of age.

Team Tours As Kellett’s team sports have developed, so too have efforts to play talented opposition teams beyond Hong Kong.

FOBISIA trips are a rite of passage for some of our best junior athletes and lifelong memories are made along the way. Whilst FOBISIA remains an important fixture on Kellett’s sporting calendar, Kevin,

ever-focussed on participation, is keen to expand tours to other locations and tournaments.

‘FOBISIA has long been a great way for younger teams to take on schools across Asia, but there's a limit to how many children we can take. That's why the tours are really important to us. We have a large number of aspirational kids that have been on the brink of it for years, for whom the tours are really beneficial.’

For older teams tours to Singapore, Japan and Dubai/Abu Dhabi offer great opportunities. As a relatively small school compared to many in these locations, overseas sports tours provide another level of challenge which our teams relish.

‘The vision was to be the leading school in Hong Kong for its sports programme, provision, and performance. Our core sports are at the top end in Hong Kong.

That's where we're at now. We value challenge and sometimes we can win things without the challenge we need. And I don't think that's good for either school.

We’re competing and getting some wins against big schools in other countries too.’ explains Kevin.

Overseas sport tours now run during Global Outlook Week on a two year cycle to ensure students don’t miss out on important opportunities for cultural immersion, service learning and peer bonding outside of team sports.

In 2023 our first sports tour to Dubai-Abu Dhabi saw our teams compete against renowned Dubai school sporting powerhouses JESS and DESC. Then in Abu Dhabi they played in one of the Middle East’s most competitive 7’s rugby and netball competitions, BSAK 7’s. In 2024 the boys headed to Japan on a rugby tour, whilst the girls had a netball tour to Singapore.

Extra Time Our provision and performance makes us unique in this region.

Licence to Write Developing the art of penmanship in Prep

Getting your pen licence has been a rite of passage for our Prep students for many, many years. Students typically write in pencil until Year 3. Once they can write consistently in cursive handwriting and show pride in their work they are awarded the coveted licence and their very blue pen to use in class. Over time the licence has evolved to incorporate a special Mandarin licence for those writing Chinese characters. Spreading Joy Service Learning in KLB Prep

ince returning from half-term break, more than fifty Year 5 and 6 students have been spending their breaktime knitting scarves for the elderly. Led by Mrs Wedderburn and Mrs Man, over the course of five weeks, students knitted 150 scarves for over 100 elderly, and 40 members of staff, at the Tak Bo Nursing Centre.

Our Year 6 student leaders delivered these handmade gifts to the nursing home, as well as some seasonal decorations to bring some festive cheer. Students spent over one hour at the home handing out the gifts, chatting with the elderly, decorating the space, playing puzzles and games with them and, with the help of Mrs Man, performing a Christmas song...in Cantonese! With some Mandarin speakers at the home, our students were also able to converse with them using their own Mandarin skills. It was a wonderful experience for our students as they encountered so many happy smiles and words of encouragement from the elderly.

Raising the Flag

Students take the lead as Kellett goes green As the School approaches its 50th Anniversary, Kellett has made environmental stewardship a cornerstone of its Kellett Vision 2035, signalling a commitment to building a sustainable future for all.

In October, Kellett Senior School was awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), the first school in Hong Kong to obtain this status. The accreditation comes after a three-year implementation of the Eco-School programme and a rigorous assessment by the FEE, and acknowledges the work of our Senior students, the implementation of environmental education into our curriculum, and the many initiatives taken to address the School’s carbon footprint.

“It’s amazing to finally see the culmination of three years of work. Behind this award are tireless meetings and deadlines, the hard work and dedication of students and the colossal efforts of Mr. Kerr. The committee is so proud of the work we have done,” reflected Head Prefect for Sustainability Lorelei Goach (Year 13).

Since early 2022, students have worked alongside their peers and staff to carry out a seven-step action plan, from environmental impact audits and implementing new initiatives, to raising awareness and addressing the environmental footprint of the School.

“The Green Flag award reflects the collective effort of our entire school – students, staff and families. We are especially proud of our Senior School Eco Committee who have shown that young people can truly lead the way in building a more sustainable future and have inspired our whole school community to follow,” remarked Whole School Sustainability Lead Brian Kerr.

Kellett will host our second Student-Led Environmental Conference in February 2026, bringing together like-minded students from around Hong Kong for networking and partnership in a quest to build a more sustainable society.

Dear Kellett, After leaving Kellett in 2020, I moved to the UK and I am currently studying Mathematics at Oxford University. I'm enjoying my time here - it's a great city full of inspiring people. Having recently received an Ellison Scholarship, I will also be working on AI-based projects with the Ellison Institute of Technology over the next 4 years.

In my free time, I often travel and recently went back to Hong Kong. My time growing up there has left many lasting memories, and I hope to move back there sometime in the future.

Finding the Artist Within

By Harriet Rhodes Old Kelletonian Geneve Chu (OK2015-2022) has always been drawn to the arts, whether it was the onstage or in the studio. Though the path was paved, the road was never one of least resistance. Hear from Geneve as she shares her journey on how she came to be the artist she is today.

From a young age, Geneve’s parents knew she had

a passion for being creative. Enrolled at a Hong Kong local primary school, the family debated which school would best allow Geneve to pursue her artistic flair. ‘They envisioned me going abroad to study and they already knew I would do something creative, so the discussion to move to an international school began in Year Four.” Interested in schools that followed the British curriculum, Geneve remembers visiting Kellett for her assessment, before being accepted to start in Year 7.

...to friends for life at Graduation

Arriving at the Kowloon Bay campus on that day, she felt slightly intimidated and found there were cultural differences between Kellett and her previous school. ‘Being allowed to eat alone in the cafeteria with my friends felt so strange and unfamiliar.

Friends also made cultural references to TV shows that I had never seen, and something called a creme egg which left me bewildered!’

Settling into life at Kellett, she fondly remembers her form tutor Mr Laxton (now deputy head of Sixth form), who was her form tutor from Year 7 all the way through to Year 13. ‘It was wonderful to have that continuity throughout my time here and I feel like I created a strong bond with Mr Laxton. He definitely saw me through the great, but also the harder times at Kellett!’.

Geneve reflects on these times at Kellett, remembering when a close friend would leave Hong Kong. ‘It was quite difficult because I always had very close friends in one year and then their families would leave and the next year you would have to find a new group of friends; it can feel a little bit unsettling’. However, Geneve has managed to maintain a core group of friends from Kellett and as she explains; ‘I stay in touch with many of my peers.

Some of my closest friends are people who left Kellett in Year 8 or Year 9. Even though we were not in the same school, we still stayed very close’.

But as I was painting, I realised I can't go back. I can't be the person I was three years ago. I've grown a lot as a person, and I’d like to celebrate and honour that growth.’ such a small place, that makes my heart so full!’

Geneve achieved 9s in all her GCSE subjects and earnt herself a place on the Kellett Honours Board.

Deciding what A-Levels to study was challenging and it was not an easy decision to pursue 3 artbased subjects: ‘At that time, I wanted to be the most all - rounded person I could be, so I thought I needed to study Science, Humanities, English, before realising that I should actually study what I enjoy, which was Art, Drama & Theatre, Media Studies.’

Again, Geneve excelled, achieving 4 A* and the highest scores in Hong Kong for both Fine Art and Media Studies. Geneve still had doubts about what to study at university; ‘I remember thinking, what if Art doesn’t work out? I need to apply to something I can switch over to if I need to. If you ask Mr Stacey, (Head of Sixth Form) he will say that I just kept adding Universities to my list because I was scared that art wasn’t going to work out’.

Although the move to Kellett was initiated by Geneve’s love for all things creative, her artistic path has not always been smooth. In her early years at Kellett she struggled creatively and it was a specific drama teacher, Mr Hall, who pushed her to continue pursuing her passion for performing, when she had almost given up completely. Mr Hall left Kellett in 2017 when Geneve was in Year 9, but who would happen to walk through the door on the day of her GCSE monologue exams to externally examine her, Mr Hall!

‘After the performance, I remember crying and saying to him, you are the reason I started performing again and chose to study GCSE drama, and now you are my external examiner. The world is

After long conversations with Mr Stacey, and much debate and consideration, Geneve concluded that she should be confident that art is something she was supposed to do instead of really being worried about. She was directly accepted into Central Saint Martins, to study Fine Art BA Honours, without the usually required foundation year. She felt ecstatic and started there in September 2022.

Through different kinds of charity events, it encourages youngsters to understand the different needs of the community, learn the techniques of event management and volunteer experience.

‘There were actually two Kellett alumni, Emma and Cherrie, who I invited to be part of the committee when I was Chair Lady; it was wonderful reconnecting, and we all had such a fun time!’

Geneve has made a home in London and has fallen in love with theatre again since being there. She was selected to join the Old Vic Theatre Makers Company 2024-2025. ‘I want to stay in London. I think I am developing something for myself and it feels very much like this is for me’.

That is not to say that Geneve does not miss her Hong Kong home and her family who still live here.

She has strong ties to Tsuen Wan, where she grew up, and is actively involved in charity work for the Yan Chai Hospital. She has fond memories of walking past this hospital every day on her way to school and explains how her family inspired her to get involved in the hospital: ‘All my family are passionate about doing charity work and giving back to the community. Starting from my grandparents, it feels like a generational thing, and they have all volunteered at some point at Yan Chai hospital and I wanted to be a part of that.’

During her first summer at Saint Martins Geneve was invited to be the Transworld Committee Chair Lady for Yan Chai Hospital. The Transworld Committee has been held for 33 consecutive years

As a former Chair Lady, she is still involved with Yan Chai Hospital and when they held their most recent Transworld Charity Ball in 2025, they asked Geneve if she would like to donate an item for the auction. ‘I see charity as offering a piece of yourself, no matter big or small. I wanted to offer my best, which is my creativity, for the auction and this is when I decided I would paint.’ Geneve hadn’t painted in three years, since her A-Level EPQ.

During this project she had fully explored intuitive expressive painting, translating her emotions through her painting onto the paper. Painting again brought up many emotions for Geneve; ‘I guess that's how the title of the painting ‘Go Over’ came about. Whilst I was painting, I wanted to make myself how I was three years ago because I believed it was those emotions and the intensity that made me great. But as I was painting, I realised, I can't go back. I can't be the person I was three years ago. I've grown a lot as a person, and I’d like to celebrate and honour that growth.’

This was an immensely personal piece of artwork for Geneve, and she was honoured when ‘Go Over’ was auctioned for an incredible HK$1 million at this year’s Transworld Charity Ball in August 2025, with all proceeds donated to the Yan Chai Hospitals Emergency Fund.

‘I'm very, very grateful that Mrs. Yip who purchased the painting, resonated with my story. This experience is so surreal! All the money raised is going to the emergency fund.’

Geneve graduated from Central Saint Martins this summer with First Class Honours in Fine Art. She is currently undertaking a scenic art placement at the Royal National Theatre and has been recently offered places with the Almeida Young Company and Roundhouse’s Centre 59 in London. When asked what she sees for the future, if she feels more of a pull towards performing or visual arts, she prefers to keep an open mind: ‘I love being creative and I'm still navigating. It would feel a bit of a betrayal to say I prefer one over the other or only choose a single discipline.

They are all fragments of me that make up who I am. I want to continue developing my passions for the arts, continuously applying for opportunities. If I’m lucky enough to be offered a chance to develop those skills, then why not go for it?’

Geneve hopes that this will not be the end to her to charity work, and her wish is to make art that can do good in the world. She is particularly passionate about mental health causes, and in 2021 created the program ‘Stress Relieving through Art’, to help SEN teenagers relieve stress and gain selfacceptance by visualising their feelings through art.

When asked what her advice would be to any Kellett students who are looking to pursue a future in the world of art, she looks to the word “artist” for inspiration: ‘I split it into art and then is, with a question mark and a t at the end. I always approach it as a question, what is art? This makes me try everything and, in a way, gives me permission to be experimental and make mistakes, because the question invites openness and

‘Go Over’ raises HK$1 Million for the Yan Chai Hospital Emergency Fund

LIFE OF A : BEYOND KELLETT SIXTH FORM INTERN With the Australian school year beginning in early 2026, recent graduate Emma Badenach returned to Kellett as a Sixth Form Intern in Term 1. Here she gives us a little snippet into her role as an intern.

As an Australian student studying A-Level exams in June, I was faced with the question of how I fill the next six months before Uni, so when offered the opportunity to work at Kellett as the sixth form intern, I couldn't say no.

When I have a few moments to spare I help around the school where I can. To begin the year, I led a panel with some Year 13s to share some insights about preparing for the GCSE years.

As the Sixth Form intern, my main responsibility is providing one on one support to any students who need help with maths, biology or chemistry, the three subjects I took at A-Levels. Students can book one to one sessions with me if they need someone to explain a difficult concept or want some exam/revision advice.

I've absolutely loved my job throughout the term; I’ve enjoyed explaining difficult concepts to the Sixth Formers and helping them along with their preparation for the mocks and exams and I’ve enjoyed being around the younger years who are so much fun. Having been at Kellett since Reception in PFL, I am both excited and sad to move on to somewhere new. This past term was a great way to wrap up my time at Kellett...for now.

On Teachers’ Appreciation Day instead of looking on at the baked goods and treats generously provided by the parents committee as a student, I was able to indulge as a staff member for the first time.

Not only were the sweet treats amazing, but it was lovely to feel appreciated and valued.

I spent my GO Week with the Year 7s in Hong Kong, trekking up waterfalls, hiking and going kayaking. Since I primarily work with the Sixth Form, it was a great week getting to know some of the younger students in the school and I loved being outdoors for a week!

Additionally, after receiving my umpiring qualification a few years ago, I often umpired school netball games after school as a student. As I am no longer playing in the games, I can still help out where I can.

Parents’ Committee Claire O’Neill - Parents’ Committee Lead

Can you believe the first term is over?

We at the Parents’ Committee cannot.

It has been filled with exciting events all helping to nurture the wonderful Kellett spirit of community among parents, students, and staff.

Parents rolled their sleeves up to assist in our events, especially at our cultural celebrations including: our mid-Autumn Festival Moon Cake workshop in PFL, Diwali celebrations across the three schools and Feel Good Friday Feeling at Home, where we were thrilled to enjoy the sounds of an Argentinian Bandonion player accompanied by some beautiful singing, as well as Flamenco Dancing and Indian and Irish Dances from students. We were even visited by a Labubu!

Staff and Students came together on Staff Appreciation Day across all three campuses. The fantastic array of baked goods provided by Kellett Parents highlighted their appreciation of the invaluable contributions of all Kellett

staff and reinforced the importance of recognizing their hard work.

Our annual Curry & Quiz Night was a fun-filled evening of trivia and camaraderie. A heartfelt thanks goes out to our teachers and volunteers who helped make this event enjoyable for all attendees. Look out for updates in the near future about our next instalment of Quiz fun, coming soon.

The first term has been a testament to the strength of our Kellett community, with each event bringing us closer together. Whether you helped to set up events, led a native language lesson, or contributed to our bake sales and celebrations, thank you to all the volunteers, parents, students, and staff, who participated and contributed to these memories. We look forward to continuing to make Kellett School, together with your help, a supportive and dynamic environment for our children!

Selina Williams

Hailing from the UK, Selina has been part of the Kellett Community since 2023, joining us as a Reception parent and joining the Board in 2024.

Introduce your family: My name is Selina Williams and I’m married to Stuart, who is an airline pilot. Our son, Thomas, is in year 2 at KLB Prep, and our daughter Lucy, 4, will be joining Reception next year.

What do you do?

I’m a chartered surveyor by background, and I now run a boutique real estate fund management business. We specialise in developing purpose-built student accommodation.

What brought you and your family to Hong Kong?

I originally came to Hong Kong in my late 20s after being made redundant from my role in London during the Great Financial Crisis. I came in search of new opportunities and I’ve not looked back since.

What makes Kellett special for you and your family?

The sense of community is really special at Kellett.

Attending a truly British International School also helps our third culture kids develop a sense of belonging to their British roots, whilst embracing the city in which we live.

What made you decide to stand for the Board and current positions?

When we were choosing a school for our children, one of the main attractions of Kellett for us was the fact that it is owned and governed by Kellett families and any surplus of funds are re-invested back into the school. Kellett has relied upon generations of parents giving their time as governors, and I wanted to pay it forward, to ensure the school is in a strong position to serve future families too.

What is something you wish to pass on to the next generation of Kellett students?

The best opportunities may show up disguised as bad luck or terrible timing. Don’t let the fact something wasn’t part of your plan hold you back.

Celebrating our Kellett Community beyond the campus

Han (Y2-PFL) Congratulations to Han for a wonderful showing at a recent tennis tournament in China.

Louis (Y10) A round of applause for Louis, who finished in second place in the U17 29er Euro Cup Final in Italy over half-term break.

Henry (Y7) Fantastic achievements from Henry, whose team took home the gold at a recent water polo tournament and he was also a finalist at the Southern District U12 Tennis Competition.

Rosanne (R-KLB) A fantastic job to Rosanne for winning the Overall Championship in the 2025 Solar Ray Cup Cycling Race (3-4 year old division)

Ava & Lyla (Y4 & Y1-PFL) Congrats to sisters Ava and Lyla for their recent performance in the pool at the American Club Sting Rays Swim Gala.

The sisters combined to take home nine medals!

Eden (Y6-KLB) Congratulations to Eden, who was recently invited to join Mensa Hong Kong.

Ayansh (Y7) Congratulations to Ayansh, who earned a place in the Kids 4 Kids Young Entrepreneurs incubation programme after presenting his project, Re-bloom, at the Social Entrepreneurship Youth Summit.

Sebbie, Henry, & Abir (Y5-PFL) Three cheers for the Daylight Zombies - Sebbie, Henry and Abirwho debuted as a band at the American Club’s Got Talent competition, playing Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes and taking home the Group Award.

Yui (Y2-KLB) A big cheer for Yui who took home the Grand Prize in a recent painting contest (in the 5-8 years old category). Her work will be displayed at the Tokyo Tower.

Ingrid (Y6-PFL) Big cheer for Ingrid as she graduated from Brownies after earning 23 badges over the past four years and represented her troop at the Hong Kong Guides Annual Parade!

1. What is something you are passionate about?

I am a huge foodie - especially Japanese food! Matcha, mochi, udon, tempura, sashimi...yummm! I'm also all about staying active, and I make sure to get my steps in every day.

Pauline Yeh Mandarin Teaching Assistant at PFL Prep Born and raised in Hong Kong, Pauline has been part of the Kellett Community for the past 15 years serving as a TA on the MFL team! Learn more about Pauline in this edition of Get To Know!

2. What motivates you in your work?

Witnessing the students learn and grow as they journey through Reception to Year 6. It can most certainly make my day when I see the children smile and genuinely enjoy their day at school.

3. Outside of Kellett School, where is your favourite

place in Hong Kong?

Admiralty is probably my favourite area in Hong Kong. It is home to a really cosy Japanese restaurant that I love relaxing at, as well as a nice promenade and some lively parks where I can get my steps in while enjoying some stunning views!

4. What is a future goal you’d like to achieve?

I would love to go on an African safari, and I'd also love to spend a year travelling around the world on a cruise.

5. Describe Kellett in 3 words ENRICHING – Kellett is a place that brings out the best in everyone. The children really do develop a love of learning and confidence for life here at the school.

CAMARADERIE – As a close-knit community, we can always count on each other for support, care and fun shared experiences.

TALENTED – We put on the most entertaining performances here at Kellett - and this is because our staff and our students alike are absolutely brimming with talent and creativity.

6. If you were principal for a day, what would you do?

I would arrange for a private Kellett event at either Ocean Park or Disneyland, so that we get the whole park to ourselves for a bit of community fun!

7. Mr Dixon is running late for the Christmas Show! How

will you entertain the parents?

I love a bit of karaoke! My go-to karaoke Christmas song would definitely be the Mariah Carey classic "All I Want For Christmas Is You"!
