PROJECT BRIEF

Humans desire space that can be beneficial to their needs and how they would feel when they are inside that space. Their emotional needs are affected through the elements and the features on what is in that space because it helps shape the aura and the ambience of it which should give the feeling of safety, security and comfort. The goal of this project is to be able to create a typical residential house that is fit for 7 family members with a PWD that is inspired by the extracted movements of the proponent in her own home creating a different architectural form and layout that wouldn’t be disruptive to the flow of accessibility of the users.

FORM FINDING

EXTRACTION FROM THE MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE SPACE

The extracted form came from one of the major elements of the chosen space which is the chair. The connection from each dot symbolizes the interaction of the user with it that showed how much heat it absorbed throught the user’s movements. Each connection was then randomly connected from one point to another to create different patterns to be able to extract a certain form for the design of the house.

SUBTRACTION FROM THE EXTRACTED FORM

Some connections are subtracted from the extracted form to create a clearer and feasible design for the bungalow house. Given that the house is in Antipolo city, it’s better to take advantage for the subtracted parts to be done to give more natural lighting and have passive cooling for the interior of the house.

Our sense of self is tied to our sense of space because it reflects our identity and beliefs. Through our behavior, it helps shape the meaning of the space and it also evolves for us to use this not only for how the facade of the building would look like but more on the functionality and the aura of the inside of it.

FINALIZATION OF DESIGN

Each extracted and subtracted form are then combined with each other to finalize the overall form of the house and the roofing. The main design can be seen more on the roofing design of the structure.

PROJECT BRIEF

During the Spanish era, the plaza was an important religious and cultural landmark since it is beside the church. The purpose of it was for the Spaniards to easily facilitate the crowd and gather them all together. With one of the issues Quiapo area is facing now which are the vendors taking over the streets, in creating this market plaza, it will give the vendors a proper space to use and to organize them in one area in order for the streets to be more open and not cramped. The design concept will come from the well-known San Sebastian church.

The form was extracted from the San Sebastian church stained glass windows to showcase the beauty of the unique design of it that can’t be seen from outside. It is also to incorporate the functionality of a window element in a building which is for the admission of light and air of the place. It provides great ambience that gives a relaxing and a harmonious place for the users.

The functionality of it is to state the purpose for it to speak for what it is and what it stands for to represent the idea. The identity of a building does not disappear but it only gets lost when it is neither developed nor preserved. In order to regain the essence of beauty of each building in F.R. Hidalgo street, it can either be preserved or be given a new identity. ‘Growth’ is a given identity for it to evolve and adapt to the new social construct and how a building can be a benefit in improving the environmental aspect of a certain place.

A MULTI-MODAL TERMINAL FOR MARAWI CITY

PROJECT BRIEF

Due to the situation that has destroyed Marawi City, it was a call for help from community that it needs its structuresto be built and redesigned.

The goal of this project is to be able to create a new multi-modal terminal in order to help regain the transportion system of the city.

EXTRACTION OF THE BAMBOO ANATOMY Using the local material, ‘bamboo’ as an inspiration for the facade design of the structure. The purpose of using bamboo was also for the benefits when it’s used as a building material which are being flexible and durable. Bamboo is also less-costing and not harmful for the environment that it going to be built upon. A green wall is also incorporated on the facade design.

INTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

The inside of the atrium serves as a waiting area that provides design elements such as tables, chairs and food stalls for the users.

For the materials of the interior, bamboo was used as well for it to be cohesive with the facade design and a skylight for natural lighting.

EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

A multi-modal terminal for the community in Marawi city.

This terminal caters to bicycles, motorcycles, e-trikes, pedicabs, UV vans, taxi, grab taxi and private vehicles.

With the new high rise buildings looking more international in terms of the concept and the style, La Terraza aims to be an entertainment haven for the filipinos with an organic shape but still in context through the modern filipino interior style. La Terraza also aims to promote the rich flora biodiversity of the Philippines through the breathing spaces and the interior of the building.

PROJECT BRIEF

Designed by Skyrise Architects, Pasay city’s new high-rise hotel and casino structure that is commercially viable for living, play, culture and leisure. This is located at the corner lot of Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard.

1p o3, 6 9 8, 8 8 9 pulation as of 2019 SITE SELECTION Manila is a city where there is a dense population that is in need of a variety of programs and facilities geared towards the the community and especially the youth that can nurture their talents and skills in sports and at the same time promote health and wellness.

With that said, there is a lack of sports culture in Manila. The aim of this project is to integrate sports culture into our urban fabric once more by creating multiple sports facilities to cater to the people’s needs.

PROBLEM

There is a lack of sports/recreational public spaces to promote physical activity and interconnectedness within the community which are important elements to improve one's quality of life.

GOAL

To create a city zone that promotes sports culture and community to the people of Manila, in the process of doing so, create venues ready to cater to the local and international market and overall improve the quality of living for the residents.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Providing more access, opportunities and capabilities for the athletes, students, and residents to improve on their skill and quality of life through sport and physical activities.

Giving the area a sense of nationalism while moving forward through education, physical activity, and community awareness in architecture.

Providing Manila with sports facilities, ready to cater to local and international games.

Providing the Metro with green spaces integrated with physical activities, that is simultaneously a solution to pollution and flooding.

A Flooding Mitigation Community-Based Agroforestry Watershed of the Upper Marikina River

PROJECT BRIEF

Urban rivers are vulnerable to different processes and activities which can be the root cause of pollution and can degrade the water ecosystem which is the situation to the rivers in the Philippines having a decline in the progression and one of them is the Marikina River. According to Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), the water quality has been deteriorating due to rapid urbanization and industrialization, but another major source that contributes to the flooding is the improper land-use in the watershed of the river that results to soil erosion and forest cover degradation that leads to the surface runoff going straight to the river itself. With this issue in the rural area, it affects the urban fabric of Marikina City through the high peak of flooding that overall results to the ecological imbalance in the city. The aim of this study is to be able to mitigate the stream flow of the flooding through a transfiguration plan of the Upper Marikina Watershed through ecological planning with the application of a community-based agroforestry land area that will regulate the soil erosion which will lessen the denuded forest cover that will overall benefit the urban fabric of the Marikina City.

Creating an interdependent system that will allow the community to grow organically with the system. The educational facility being the center and the system that will help develop the chosen site are the agroforestry zone and the community. The 3 main facilities are the educational facility, the housing module and the modular classroom. These are built with local and recycled building materials such as bamboo with concrete support in order to provide temperature regulation, natural lighting and air ventilation.
