If you are a parent, it is bound to happen at some point. In public, your child does or says something that makes your eyes widen, and you immediately want to hide in embarrassment. For some, it may be walking past the wine aisle and your child announcing loudly, “Don’t you need some Mommy juice?” For me, one instance included a four-year-old and a four-letter word. To set the stage, you need to know that we had a wonderful but frustrating dog who loved to run out the door any chance she got. The dog aggravated my husband to no end, and when she would escape, he tended to use an expletive. Lo and behold, one afternoon, while standing on the front porch with my daughter and neighbor, the dog got out, and my precious little four-year-old in her big pink bow and smocked dress said, “Mom, there goes the ____ dog!” I was so embarrassed!

As I said, it happens to all of us, be it a child repeating words that should not be repeated or telling an embarrassing story at school. But what should we do when that happens? Sarah Lyons gives us some polite and strategic ideas in this month’s feature, Solutions to Sticky Situations. Naturally, these are not our proudest parenting moments, but one day, depending on the circumstance, you may be able to look back on them and laugh.

As our kids age, we don’t get to put sticky situations behind us. We will constantly have situations we need help navigating. We set rules and boundaries to clarify our expectations and protect our children, but there will always be some circumstances that we may not have covered, or maybe we just got a little lax over time. Screen time and video game time are issues that can definitely slip up on us. We allow an extra 20 minutes on a special occasion that turns into two special occasions, and before you know it, your child is spending way more time on gaming/screens than you intended. Again, it happens to all of us, especially if you are monitoring multiple children. Writer Cheryl Maguire is sharing some tools we can use to help our children spend less time on screens and explore other interests in her feature Parenting the Video Game Fanatic: How To Encourage Other Interests.

With summer right around the corner, summer camps are the perfect way to help children find and explore new interests. Our expanded Summer Camp Guide in this month’s issue offers a huge list of options. We have taken the March guide and added even more camp opportunities. Whether you are looking for day camps, sleepaway camps, sports camps, or art camps, you will surely find opportunities for your kiddos to enjoy this summer.

Avoid Making Assumptions

When was the last time you examined any assumptions you have made about your children? If you have not done this recently, follow the advice of Alan Alda, who said, “Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.” Just as termites destroy homes, unquestioned assumptions destroy relationships.

As parents, we must stop making assumptions that imply meaning to behavior and complete false narratives. To stop the toxic practice of assuming, we must exercise our ability to see another person’s perspective and openly communicate even when something seems obvious. Empathy is the affective process that enables us to connect with how another person is feeling. If I notice a child sitting in the corner crying, empathy allows me to discern the child is experiencing a

negative emotion. In contrast, perspectivetaking is the cognitive process of correctly comprehending a circumstance through another person’s viewpoint. When adults make dangerous assumptions, it tends to be in perspective-taking.

Imagine all the assumptions you may make about the child in the corner crying. For example, you may think the child is sad, in pain, or overly sensitive. Without taking perspective, you may choose to act inappropriately based on your assumption. When we make assumptions without taking the time to communicate effectively, we make mistakes that hurt relationships.

I vividly remember getting sent to bed early for “pouting” in the 4th grade. My teacher moved me from the front of the classroom to the last row. I was heartbroken to be moved away from my friends and terrified to tell my parents because I thought I had done something wrong.

At the end of the night, I explained my angst when my mother stopped making assumptions about the cause of my “pouting” and helped me feel safe enough to talk. She helped me understand various other perspectives, “Maybe another student could not see or hear and needed to be moved forward. Maybe another student was getting in trouble in the back and needed to be closer to the teacher.” This was a “gold-star” moment in my mother’s parenting. Not only did she take the time to help me feel better, but she also modeled perspective-taking and created a bonding opportunity.

How often do we make assumptions about our children? You can only correctly take perspective if you have all the information. Find the right time and ask the hard questions before creating a narrative about your child that may not be true. Don’t make assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.

Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

2024 Lip Sync Battle

Dealing With Your Picky Eater

Picky eating can be very frustrating to parents – especially since most children start out eating a wide variety of foods. And no two children (even within the same family) will have the same path through this very typical developmental stage.

Here are a few strategies to help your family during this phase, and also some red flags that might indicate you need to talk to your pediatrician.

Generally, you cannot control what your child wants to eat, nor can you force a child to eat. You can, however, have control of what food is brought into your house, and what options are available.

I like to remind parents to think about the ‘dessert stomach,’ which is when you have just enough appetite to eat a food that you absolutely love, however, not enough of

Through the middle school halls of Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies, you will often hear the phrase “make good choices” ringing from Mrs. Nicole Bolton’s classroom.

“I tell my students this every day when they leave my classroom,” shares Mrs. Bolton. “Middle school is tough for so many different reasons. You must connect with your students, and you must understand that just like we have not-so-great days, so do they. I tell them, ultimately, you choose your weather!”

Mrs. Bolton is the STEM and Technology Instructor, which includes computer science, an industrial engineering class called ‘We Build It Better’ and robotics. She currently teaches 6th-9th graders at the academy, which has been an adjustment from teaching elementary-aged students for nearly two decades.

“This is such a fun age, and they have so much going on, so showing up for their events and supporting them means a lot. I love seeing them succeed inside and outside the classroom,” Mrs. Bolton explained. She believes being involved with her student’s extracurriculars motivates them as much as it motivates her.

Mrs. Bolton describes herself as a facilitator of learning at the middle school level.

“I believe in productive struggle and learning from it,” she shared. “I always tell my students that failure is the first step in learning. Especially in the subjects that I teach. Letting them take control of their learning

and being there to guide them instead of telling them exactly what to do is going to benefit them so much.”

Her ultimate goal when students leave her classroom, outside of understanding and applying course content, is that they know how to communicate with other people.

“I have my students work in random groups and do teamwork challenges to improve on communication and problem-solving skills,” she continued. “They most likely will not get to choose their future co-workers, so I hope they will take away a better understanding of the importance of coming to a consensus and working with others.”

As an educator, Mrs. Bolton considers herself a lifelong learner. Even with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Masters in Education in Educational Media and Technology from the University of South Alabama, she does seek other educational opportunities for herself. This allows her to grow professionally and offer additional opportunities to her students.

“I love my students and what I do, so having parents nominate me for this is very exciting,” Mrs. Bolton exclaimed. “I am humbled because it truly is a privilege to get to do what I do every day here at Barton.”

Nicole Bolton is married to Lt. Clark Bolton of Mobile County Sheriff’s Dept. They have two children, Lilly Grace (16) and Garrett (12). They are huge Auburn fans and love sports, especially football.

UMS-Wright welcomed Dr. Donald Berry and Rabbi Edward Boraz to assembly in February. After a viewing of “Shoah Ambassadors,” our students had a chance to participate in a Q&A with both Dr. Berry and Rabbi Boraz!

Little Flower celebrated Read Aloud Day with guest speakers on campus. One special part of Read Aloud Day was an invitation for students to be read to by a loved one at home.

St. Luke Learns Civil Engineering and Architecture

This year, St. Luke’s added a new Civil Engineering and Architecture course where students thoroughly understand building and site design and development by employing mathematical, scientific, and engineering practices to design projects and utilizing 3D architectural design software to document their work.

The primary objective of this course is to comprehend the significance, influence, and implementation of civil engineering and architecture in the context of building and design development.

Mobile County Beef, Pork, and Peanut Cookoff

St. Dominic Participated in a Live Wax Museum

5th grade students portrayed famous Americans throughout history in a live wax museum for parents and students to view.

The Beef, Pork and Peanut Cookoff, held each year in February as part of Career and Technical Education Month, included 25 culinary students from nine Mobile County Public Schools high schools. Winners were selected from a panel of judges who evaluated the entrees for taste, presentation and creativity. The firstplace finisher in the Beef category, Clayton Williams of Vigor High School, is now eligible to compete in the Alabama Junior and Senior High School Cookoff state competition in Birmingham in April with his recipe for Pineapple Steak Bowl.

St. Mary’s Teacher Receives The WKRG Golden Apple Award

St. Mary’s Catholic School first grade teacher, Sarah Peel, was selected in March as the recipient of WKRG’s Golden Apple Award. The Golden Apple Award is a community partnership with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Rich’s Car Wash, Hembree Heating and Air Conditioning Incorporated, Elite Urgent Care, and WKRG News 5, and is an award that honors local teachers who are making a difference in the classroom.

Mrs. Peel was nominated by parents and fellow teachers for her enthusiasm, patience, kindness, love for the students, great communication skills with parents and students, and her commitment to helping each student succeed. St. Mary’s first grade parent Hanna Bolling remarks, “We are beyond blessed to have Mrs. Peel as a teacher. She goes above and beyond for each and every student, striving for each child to reach their potential. Her classroom environment is fun and fosters a love for learning.”

Davidson High Compete at History Day Competition

Davidson High School had three pre-IB students compete at the South Alabama Regional History Day competition, and all 3 were awarded for their outstanding efforts in two very competitive categories! (from left to right) Tyler Macon won 1st place in the category Senior Division Documentary for “The Meiji Restoration: Igniting Japanese Industrialization and the Dawn of Imperial Expansion.” Zander Snyman won 2nd place in category Senior Division Documentary for “Lies In Their Waters: The Johnson Administration’s Mishandling of the Tonkin Gulf Incident.” And Julia Panchenko won 1st place in the Senior Division Academic Paper category for “Live, Laugh, Love Locke: How the Enlightenment Changed the World.”

Lights, Camera, Action at Heartwood Christian

Drama 101 Heartwood Christian Academy’s Drama 101 class completed their study of film. Students were required to create a commercial pitch, including designing their logo, writing dialogue, and submitting images and videos to insert on a green screen during filming. Annalyn Scott chose to imitate a product, Vitameatavegamin, from her favorite show, “I Love Lucy.” Annalyn used the show’s theme song and a black-and-white filter for effect. Annalyn is one of several students who participated in filming a commercial. Excellent job, HCA Drama class. Annalyn, we’d purchase your Vitameatavegamin in a heartbeat!

Congratulations to Kyleigh Moore, a 5th grader at Council Traditional Elementary School. We are so proud of your incredible achievement at the science fair. St. Ignatius Receives First Aid Training Kits!

St. Ignatius is thankful to receive a first aid training kit from American Heart Association - Alabama in partnership with Mobile Heart Specialists, P.C! Recently, members of their team along with Impala parent, heart doctor and American Heart Association member, Dr. Kevin DeAndrade led a demonstration for our 3rd-5th grade students on how to successfully administer CPR. The training kit includes 10 set ups. St. Ignatius Science teachers plan to include it in their yearly curriculum moving forward. Special thanks to Dr. DeAndrade for taking time out of his surgery calendar to educate our students on the importance of CPR and First Aid. St. Mary’s Stampede to Read!

St. Mary Catholic School challenged all students from kindergarten to eighth grade to kick up their reading during St. Mary’s Stampede to Read read-athon. Incentives for classes and individual students clocking in the most minutes included class parties and individual student prizes. Funds raised during this reada-thon was through pledges for each minute of reading and individual donations. St. Mary’s congratulates the kindergarten classes for the class raising the most funds at $1400, with overall funds raised totalling over $4,000 for the entire school. Leinkauf Elementary and Lott Middle School are among 32 schools statewide to be recognized this year as CLAS Schools of Distinction by the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools. On March 01, 2024, Living Word Christian Center Kingdom Academy held its annual Black History program. Special thanks to attorney Shomari Figures, a former Council Comet, for his impactful guest speech. 10th, 11th and 12th graders traveled to Florence to see Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Chiesa di Santa Croce, Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, a leather workshop, Gates of Paradise, Giotto’s Bell Tower, Baptistery visit, leaning Tower of Pisa, and Dante’s House. The group enjoyed the Romeo and Juliet balcony in Venice, Verona Arena, St. Mark’s Square, St. Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace, a glass-blowing demonstration, and a Gondola ride. In Assisi, the group visited St. Francis of Assisi Basilica. When in Rome, our students toured the Colosseum, Forum Romanum, Piazza Venezia, Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Piazza Navona. After traveling to Sorrento, the group watched a cameo workshop and took a Pompeii-guided excursion. The trip ended with a Capri and Blue Grotto excursion.The trip was an excellent learning experience as our students experienced firsthand the fantastic art, culture, and history of Italy like no history book can cover.

“It’s time for karate class,” I said to my 13-year-old son.

“Do I have to go?”

“Yes.”

This has been a common exchange between us for a variety of activities over the past 10 years. He has tried everything from baseball to cooking class—yet nothing holds his interest as much as video games.

Every now and then I wonder if it is worth investing money and time into classes or sports he doesn’t want to participate in. But if I hold off on signing him up for things, he does nothing except play video games until we try something new again. It’s a never-ending cycle.

Are Video Games Healthy?

My son is not an anomaly. According to the Pew Research Center, 72% of teens—and 84% of teen boys—play video games.

There is a lot of conflicting information about video game use, so it can be hard for parents to know what to allow. It’s screen time, of course, but video gaming is often also a social activity played together with friends either in the same room or online. And if it’s a popular pastime among a

teen’s peer group, some parents may be inclined to let them play for an unlimited amount of time with their friends.

Playing video games can have positive benefits, says Dr. Larry D. Rosen, a professor at California State University and author of The Distracted Mind. Gaming “can offer some skill-building, including reaction time, executive functioning, and stra tegic thinking,” says Rosen. He cautions, though, that “playing video games can be very addictive and cre ate problematic thinking, including desensitization to violence.”

Video Game Obsession?

Rosen recom mends that video game play should be limited, since research shows physiological arousal increases when playing—and kids need breaks from that. He suggests limiting gaming for teens to 60-90 minutes at a time, even if parents decide to allow more total time daily.

Maria Sanders, a licensed social worker and certified parent coach, also recommends creating clear boundaries with your teen regarding when and how long they are allowed to play. She says an example of boundaries might be letting teens choose to play an hour of video games either before or after completing homework.

She encourages parents to learn more about their teen’s interest in video games. Sit down and play the games with them. “The child will see that you have an interest in what they are doing,” she says, “and you will learn about why they are so attracted to the game.”

Encouraging Other Activities

Teens should live “balanced lives and not live solely in the video game,” says Sanders. But if your teen doesn’t express interest in anything else, it may be difficult to figure out which activity or sport to encourage. Sanders suggests asking your teen about the type of video games they like to play. Then you might be able to figure out

an activity that uses similar skills or gameplay. An avid Fortnite player, for example, might enjoy a laser tag league.

Parents should avoid simply announcing which activities their teen must do. Rosen stresses the importance of including the child in the decision-making process. With your child’s input, create a list of the types of activities they could do at home during unstructured times or when they feel bored. Similarly, involving your child in discussions about organized extracurriculars will prevent them from feeling forced into participating in certain activities.

Stay Positive

Often parents make comments like “video games are a waste of time” or “video games are unhealthy” in an effort to decrease video game use. Rosen says this almost always backfires. Instead, parents could reward the child for responsible behavior. For example, when a child demonstrates that they can stop playing on their own without parent badgering, parents might loosen strict time limits on screen time.

Instead of making negative statements about video games, Sanders says,

“The best thing a parent can do is guide their child down a path of self-reflection. Asking questions like, I notice you seem pretty tired after playing video games. How are you feeling? will help your child figure out their own beliefs about video game use.”

Parent negativity can make a teen feel as if they are being judged and misunderstood. Focus on their strengths while playing a video game—perhaps, for instance, their ability to help a friend get to another level. A parent should notice that ability and point out how it might connect to reallife situations. Next step: Parents can help them get out there and do just that.

Too Many Video Games: When to Worry

Video game addiction is not yet a disorder recognized by the American Psychiatric Association. The World Health Organization, however, recently recognized the existence of “gaming disorder” for the first time. Excessive video game play and other types of addictions do show similar patterns, says Rosen.

Some signs parents should look for are:

• Isolating behavior or ignoring family and friends

• Sneaking video game play at night or at friends’ houses

• Changes in eating or sleeping patterns

• A decline in academic performance or not doing homework

• A need to continue playing video games beyond a time limit

• An interest only in playing video games, at the expense of other activities

• Always thinking about video games

Nothing says family dinner quite like a lasagna around the kitchen table. This month’s recipe is a simple and delicious homemade lasagna brought to us by Amber Day of Mobile County.

“My life revolves around my family,” Amber said, sharing that her family brings her the most joy.

“I have been fortunate to have my parents, grandparents, my sister’s and husband’s immediate family here in Mobile,” she said. “Up until the past two years, I’ve had both grandmothers in my life. They helped mold me into the person I am today.”

Amber met her husband Johnathan during her senior year of high school when her father introduced them. “My dad is a great mechanic. He helped several drivers at Mobile International Speedway, including my husband, who drove a pure stock race car at the time.

One night at Sunny South, my dad introduced me to Johnathan.”

They married in 2011 and have two children, Johnny (11) and Mary Alice (5).

Amber describes her husband as a true family man. After the birth of each child, he took time off from racing, and he is present and active with the kids and their extracurricular activities.

The Day family does just about everything together. When they are not at the baseball field or dance studio, they enjoy fishing together.

Amber graduated from the University of South Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Communication. After a series of great career opportunities in the area, she returned to South as the Director of Marketing and Communications for Development and Alumni Relations.

Dinner is important to the Day family. “If we have dinner at home during the week, my husband and I usually take turns cooking something quick and easy,” Amber said. “If we slow down and cook on the weekends, we love to cook on the grill – pulled pork and ribs are our favorite. Sometimes, we just boil crawfish and have family over for music and a bonfire.”

This lasagna recipe is a tradition used when Amber’s brother and his family visit from North Carolina.

“My mom has perfected this simple lasagna recipe over the years,” said Amber. “We all pitch in and put together our favorite family dish. It’s delicious and easy to make!”

Amber’s Family Lasagna Ingredients:

• 1 pound ground beef

• 1 roll of Jimmy Dean Italian sausage

• 2 jars of spaghetti sauce or 1 big jar

• 1 15 oz. can of Italian tomato sauce

• ½ cup of water

• 2 15oz. containers of ricotta cheese

• 2 eggs

• 6 cups of Italian blend cheese, shredded

• 1 tablespoon parsley flakes

• 1 teaspoon sugar

• Dash of nutmeg

• Dash of garlic powder

• Salt and pepper to taste

• Package of no-boil lasagne noodles

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Brown beef and sausage, drain. Add sauce and ½ cup of water. Add a dash of garlic powder and salt and pepper to taste.

3. Mix ricotta cheese, eggs, 2 bags of Italian blend cheese (4 c.), parsley, sugar, nutmeg, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a bowl.

4. Pour 2 cups meat sauce into lasagna pan.

5. Rinse lasagna noodles one at a time in hot water and place 3-4 of the lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.

6. Pour 2 cups meat sauce on top of noodles.

7. Dollop half of the cheese mixture by spoon on top of the sauce and tap with back of the spoon to spread evenly.

8. Lay 3-4 lasagna noodles (rinsed in hot water) on top of the cheese layer.

9. Spread 3 cups of sauce over noodles.

10. Spread the remaining cheese mixture over the sauce.

11. Place 3-4 lasagna noodles (rinsed in hot water) over the cheese mixture.

12. Spread the remaining sauce.

13. Cover with foil. Bake for 1 hour.

14. Remove foil and sprinkle 1 bag of Italian blend cheese on top.

15. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

16. Remove from oven and let stand for at least 15 minutes before cutting.

You’re in public and your child makes an embarrassing comment to someone. They pick their nose while you are eating at a restaurant. They share an embarrassing story about you.

Every parent has been there and most of the time other parents understand the ups and downs of parenting and are willing to be patient, help out, and excuse behaviors that seem impolite or embarrassing. Sticky situations with kids can be difficult to navigate, but there are a few things you can do to make the best of them.

Your child does something rude at a restaurant

You’re eating out and your child does something gross or impolite like burping, picking their nose, or throwing food. Place your hand on the child’s shoulder and quietly ask them to stop the behavior and explain that they are being impolite. If you think their behavior is rooted in attention seeking and is somewhat tolerable, it may be appropriate to simply ignore it. However, if your child persists, it may be best to ask them to take a bathroom break. When you return to the table, try to find something to distract your child. Some parents may bring a tablet, coloring book, or small toys to keep their child busy while waiting for their food but if you find yourself unprepared you can play “I spy” or another guessing game to keep them occupied.

Pro parent tip: Put together a “busy bag” that you can bring to restaurants. Include a few art supplies, small toys, books, magnet toys, or fidgets to keep your child occupied while waiting. To keep your child’s interest, switch out the items often and only allow them to play with it when you are at a restaurant or other situation where they need to be quiet.

Your child makes a rude comment to a stranger

This can be one of the most embarrassing situations for a parent. My cousin once went up to an elderly man and told him, “You are old and will die soon.” If your child makes a comment about someone’s appearance, it’s best to quickly apologize to the person they offended. If appropri-

ate, have your child apologize to them as well. Let your child know that it is never okay to make fun of someone’s appearance or comment on their race, weight, or age. If you feel that your child is simply curious about something and not making the comment rudely, try to take the time, when appropriate, to explain to your child. For example, if your child has a question about why someone is in a wheelchair you could explain that they need it to help them move around.

Pro parent tip: Let your child know that people come in all sizes, shapes, races, and ages. Our differences are what makes us each special. Your child will follow your lead when it comes to accepting others. If you celebrate diversity, they will most likely do the same. Talk to your child about differences and let them know it’s okay to ask questions but never to make fun of others.

Your child has a potty accident in public

During the months of potty training, accidents are likely to happen. It’s best not to make a big production of it and clean it up as quickly as possible. Try not to shame or embarrass your child, which can cause problems long term and even prolong potty training. Potty accidents always seem to happen in the most inconvenient times and places. Ideally you have an extra change of clothes in your car or diaper bag, but if not, it’s okay to leave early or borrow clothes from someone if needed.

Pro parent tip: Keep a stash of wipes and a full change of clothes in a ziploc bag

in your car. The bag can be used to bring home dirty clothes as well.

Your child shares embarrassing and private information about you

“My mom and dad kiss a lot. And I mean a lot!” was what one preschooler told me while I was teaching a Sunday school class. Another child told me how their dad snores and has stinky feet. Young kids usually don’t have much of a filter and are willing to share private and sometimes embarrassing information with teachers, friends and even complete strangers. In this situation, try to change the subject or turn the comment into a joke. “Well, we do have four kids” was how the kissing couple responded after their child shared that information.

Pro parent tip: When it’s the right time, you can talk to your kids about not sharing private information outside of the family. In the moment, try to turn the moment into a joke. If you brush it off with a laugh, others are more likely to do so.

These sticky situations can be embarrassing, but the good news is, they are common. Every parent has a few embarrassing moments they can share about their parenting journey. Often in these instances, you may be able to use humor to distract from the situation or simply apologize and move on. If nothing else, you can wait until your child is a teenager and share some of your own stories that might make them blush now that they are a little older.

AI and the Loss of Truth

In today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool that has the potential to revolutionize various aspects of our lives. From assisting with everyday tasks to making groundbreaking scientific discoveries, AI has undoubtedly transformed how we live and work. Our kids are using it daily in classrooms. It is on their phones via the apps they use. However, as AI continues to evolve, there is a growing concern about the potential loss of truth accompanying its widespread adoption.

One of the primary issues surrounding the loss of truth and AI is the rise of deepfake technology. Deepfakes are manipulated videos, images, or audio files that appear very realistic, making it difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is fabricated. With the help of AI algorithms, individuals can create deepfakes that can be used to spread disinformation, deceive the public, and manipulate public opinion. This poses a significant threat to the integrity of information and raises

questions about the authenticity of the content we consume. Not only are adults having a hard time distinguishing between what is real and what is not, but our kids are as well. Couple that with a bit of teenage impulse control, and we are seeing many fake images and content being rapidly sent by kids to one another. There are numerous serious concerns here.

In addition to deepfakes, AIpowered algorithms used by social media platforms and search engines can contribute to the loss of truth. These algorithms are designed to personalize the content we see based on our preferences and interests. While this may seem convenient, it also creates echo chambers, where individuals are only exposed to information that aligns with their existing beliefs and biases. As a result, people are less likely to encounter diverse perspectives and alternative viewpoints, leading to a narrowing of their understanding of the world. This can further reinforce existing prejudices and hinder critical thinking. And as we

know, in order for our kids to grow and learn, they must be exposed to various thoughts and viewpoints. It builds character and empathy, and challenges thought processes.

To address the potential loss of truth associated with AI, it is crucial to prioritize ethical considerations and responsible deployment of AI technologies. This includes developing robust safeguards against deepfakes and disinformation, promoting digital literacy and critical thinking skills, and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability among AI developers and providers. Additionally, efforts should be made to educate our youth on responsible, ethical use of AI.

We must encourage them to think critically and with an open, curious mind. As parents, we must stay up to date on AI to have educated conversations with our kids. Because no matter our thoughts around it, it is here to stay.
