We have come together to share in the celebration of Erica and Forbes’ marriage. We share with them in their happiness and their hope for the future. Marriage is the most impor tant and sacred commitment two people can make to each other.

Erica and Forbes are about to make this commitment based on their mutual love and understanding. In marriage two people are one. It is not the domination of one by the other, but exists for the benefit of both. It enables two people to share their desires, longings, dreams and memories, and to help each other through uncer tainties. It provides the suppor t and encouragement to risk more and thus gain more. In marriage we learn to give each other reassurance by the complete sharing of ourselves: physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually.

Let us give thanks for this day. Let us pray. Almighty God, we thank you for the gift of marriage, for all the joys it can bring, for the promises it holds for a life of mutual concern and care. We thank you that we share in this joyful act today. We thank you for the love which has brought Erica and Forbes together and on which they base their commitment to each other. O God of all truth and love we ask that you help and guide Erica and Forbes as they enter their marriage. May they ever be conscious of your concern and love for them as they are of each other’s. May they ever be ready to give and forgive one to another. May your love provide a pattern and a source of strength for their love in the years to come.

Preface Happiness is a strange kind of thing. If you reach out to it, if you chase after it, somehow it eludes you.

But if you concentrate and focus your life on the things which create happiness, sometimes you find you’ve got it. So don’t aim at a thing called happiness, aim at what brings happiness.

And in marriage the things that bring happiness, centre round you two taking care of and developing the loving relationship you have with each other which is so real to you and so obvious to us.
