The Faith School began its existence in the fall of 1982 on 25 Cornwall Street in Hartford, CT . In its third year of operation, the school moved to the lower level of the Faith Church on 500 Woodland Street. In 1992, the concept of an Area School was initiated. Shortly thereafter, the school officially changed its name to the Hartford SDA Area School in 1994. The combined vision of the congregants of the Faith, Hope and Charity Seventh-day Adventist churches was borne to build a new state-of-the-art constituency school building to serve these area churches and the neighborhoods in which they operated. Faith SDA Church initiated a loan total of $2,100,000 to complete the building of the Faith Education Complex located at 474 Woodland Street which would, as it's tenant, house the Hartford Area Seventhday Adventist School, known most adoringly as HASDAS. The building complex broke ground in 1997 and was completed in 1999. The initiation of this mortgage over the years would demonstrate the faith and faithfulness of the Faith SDA congregation as it required personal, congregational and church ministry sacrifices as well as the deferment of much needed church building structure initiatives. It is this faithfulness to God that has made today's event possible. The Faith SDA Church honors the congregations under the following ministers for their dedication, understanding and sacrifices made throughout the years. •

Pastor Michael Bernard and the Faith members of that era for the initiation of the mortgage. This made the vision to enable our constituency children to obtain a Seventh-day Adventist Christian education a reality. Pastor Walton Rose for the wisdom in refinancing the mortgage loan to more favorable terms, permitting the church to operate more efficiently with limited means.

Pastor Stephen Williams and the Faith members of that era who recognized the impact the mortgage payments had on the ability to minister as Christ demands and started a strong mortgage liquidation push that included example at the leadership level and was boldly followed by the congregation. Pastor Jude Francis and the Faith members of that era who recognized the need to restructure the Finance and Treasury departments at Faith to build efficiency, stable governance and transparency that enabled us to meet daunting debt challenges throughout that, and each subsequent period. Pastor James Yansen and the Faith members of this era who carried the torch forward, building on the strengths and the wisdom of those who came before and initiated the final mortgage liquidation push that started in January 2015 when the mortgage balance was approximately $825,000.
The $2.1M refinanced mortgage loan in 2001, was a 20-year, 5-year adjustable rate mortgage. To God be the Glory, every 5 years since the refinance, the interest rates have fallen, giving Faith the advantage it needed to aid in its mortgage liquidation process. The mortgage started with a monthly payment of $16,111.86. However in late 2014 into early 2015, when the monthly mortgage payment dipped below $13,027 per month, the Finance Committee decided to keep making the same payment along with the sacrificial monthly mortgage liquidation giving from the congregation, friends of Faith, and the August 2015 $20,000 donation from the Northeastern Conference. Today, we mark on a stone in our hearts symbolic of Samuel's writing on the stone in 1 Samuel 7:12. "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us", as we have "Come this far by Faith, leaning on the Lord". So today we give God thanks, the Glory and the Praise, as we were able to successfully liquidate this mortgage 2 years ahead of time in April 2019, saving ourselves thousands of dollars in interest!
A MESSAGE FROM HASDAS The ground breaking ceremony took place on a cool spring morning in 1997. The idea for a school building was born out of a need to provide adequate space for the student population which had outgrown the Faith SDA Church Sabbath School rooms. The sweat equity of the brethren matched their strong desire to provide a school wherein all children could be taught of the Lord. Many a widow's mites were cast into the treasury into which many who sold property did also cast their "big mites." The sacrifice of funding the wonderful project was born by many for almost numberless years. Today, the Constituent School Board stands with strong applause for the heroic work of bringing this institution into existence. All present and past students who through the corridors of HASDAS have walked are joining voices with all the board members, parents, and teachers who have worked and benefited from the safe school environment lift their voices in a deep rumbling sound that find outburst in choruses of chants directed to the Faith, Hope, and Charity members, past and present saying THANK YOU!
