I am extremely honored and humbled to have been given the responsibility of leading this noble Club with noteworthy achievements, for the Administration Year 2020/2021.

I am confident that with the help and support of my board and fellow club members, we will emerge successful in managing the challenges ahead, given the current pandemic and other major difficulties we face as a club, and by extension, a nation. Our club has been built on a resilient, strong leadership foundation, and I am fortunate to have a membership that is fully committed to the Kiwanis Motto: “Serving the Children of the World”.

The club’s theme “serving with passion and fortitude” will resonate with us in every club meeting, every project, every interaction with the children whom we serve, and every fundraiser. We are prepared and ready for “takeoff”, in giving our talents, our knowledge, our abilities, and our efforts; through devotion to the communities we serve.

Throughout this year, we will place emphasis on the strengthening of the membership and improving the support provided to the Service Leadership Programme. We promise to increase membership as the greater our numbers, the more we can do in working to improve the lives of the less fortunate.

As President, I am committed to going the extra mile in building our club, through developing, retaining and supporting a growing Kiwanis membership network, carrying out impactful and meaningful services, with service to children as our priority, enhancing the Kiwanis image and brand worldwide and ensuring financial viability and responsible stewardship.

“I look forward to making this year very special”

Fellow Kiwanians, A very Happy New Year to us. I am indeed humbled and honoured to be leading this August body Division 23 East Surrey South for the year 2020 – 2021.

As Lieutenant Governor, I look forward to making this year very special. We have just concluded a year that presented remarkable challenges that were very unprecedented in many respects. However, as the saying goes, ‘a smooth see never makes a good sailor’ and we saw in this past year the resilience and agility of our K-family. Unfortunately, the pandemic is still around, ‘still a keep’ and our wider community still need Kiwanis and our dedicated service to the most vulnerable among us. The tagline for the division this year is to be Flexible Agile and Munificent and acronym for K-FAM. We will create many opportunities for leadership training, service activities-particularly in the areas of health, nutrition, education and safety- as well as fellowship.

Throughout all of this we must remain supportive of each other.

I encourage clubs to collaborate and share resources. Be creative in this pandemic and remain optimistic. Assess the risk factors, follow the established protocols and stay safe.

Kids need Kiwanis and we will live this out in an emphatic way during the 2020-2021 year.

Again, a very Happy Kiwanis New Year and we will make our world a better place in all the communities we intend to serve.

Governor’s Message “Passion to Serve, Lead and Excel.”

Fellow Kiwanians, I bring greetings to you for a new Kiwanian year where we will face challenges like no other year in the history of our organization, but one in which I am hopeful that we will continue to serve the children in our communities with even greater enthusiasm than ever before.

As we look forward to the 2020–2021 year, our children will need Kiwanis more now than ever before. The aftermath of this pandemic will have a lasting effect on our children and the youth of our communities. The areas where they will most be affected are in Education, Health, Nutrition and Safety and I implore you to concentrate your service this year in those areas. I ask that you be bold, be creative, be imaginative and be innovative in your approach to your service projects as you continue to serve the children in your communities. Be ready as Kiwanians to lead your community in service.

I do wish even in this time of uncertainty, the best year ever, for all our Kiwanis Clubs. We need more now than ever before to open new clubs, to increase our membership, to advance the image of Kiwanis and to expand our SLP and youth Programs , as well as, recognize and identify new and emerging leaders offering them training opportunities so that our district can remain healthy and strong.

For 2020–2021, together, I firmly believe that we will succeed and excel in service and leadership. (adapted)

Meet the Board of Officers & Directors 2020-2021

Multipurpose Garden for Kids with special needs For Kiwanis One Day, the ladies and friends of the Kiwanis Club of South St. Andrew, with support from Division 23 East Lieutenant Governor Don Gittens, braved the threatening rains to start a herb and vegetable garden for children with special needs at the Adonijah Group of Schools, Kingston campus. The garden will provide a multiplicity of benefits for the over eighty students registered at the Institution.

The ladies started clearing and preparing the space for the project from Thursday and the activities culminated on Kiwanis One day, Saturday October 24, with the planting of crops such as callaloo, pakchoi, cucumber, corn, parsley and sweet peppers.

The Director of the institution was also gifted with masks for the students, made by our very own Sec. Judith.

Older and newer members of the club came together at Devon House on Saturday Dec. 12 to socializeand get to better know each other over ice-creamand delectable puddingand browniesfrom one of the club’s star bakers

For the club’s 1st Quarter Church Service, we joined with President Suzette, the Pastors and members of the Waltham Park Road New Testament Church of God. The President gave an address to the church and made a donation to any project geared towards children.

It was a blessing for the members who joined at the church and via zoom and Youtube.

COVID-19 Nutritional Crisis?!

Supermarket Surprise Three lucky shoppers were surprised

by KCSSA surprisedby as their supermarket bills were paid in full werepaid at the Duhaney Park Mini Shoppers Fair ShoppersFair Supermarket in December.The ladies benefitted from one of the club’s many acts of kindness in the 12 Days of Christmas Project.

Flowers for cheer Wedonated plants to the Bustamante Hospital for Childrento mark the start of our acts of kindness inthe 12 Days of ChristmasProject in December.

Police Officers stationed at the Halfway Tree police station were grateful to be treated to Christmas cakes, pastries and sorrel in December from the ladies of the Kiwanis Club of South St. Andrew.

Over 45 officers enjoyed the delights, as the KCSSA ladies spread Christmas cheer as part of the Division 23 East 12 Days of Christmas Project.

President Suzette, Kiw. Marcia and SecretaryJudith donated cake and sorrel on behalf of members of KCSouth St. Andrewto the homeless at the Marie Atkins Shelter in Kingston. The dessert was received

by Ms. Brown, the Secretaryat the facility.

72 GIFTS for the GIRLS 72 individual gifts which included personal hygiene and care products were presented to the girls in KCSSA’s annual donation to the South Camp Juvenile Correctional and Remand Centre in December.

Additionally, the girls at the centre received boxes of juice, snacks and cake and sorrel in keeping with the season. Members of the club’s SLP at Camperdown High School were part of the presentation ceremony.

Camperdown High School Key Clubbers give single parents Helping Hand.

The ladies supported Camperdown High School Key Club in their ‘Helping Hands’ project in November.

Nine single parents benefited from the project including a father of seven. The parents received canned and other food items, toiletries and cleaning products.

“I explained to the parents that we wanted to help with the little we had, and they were very grateful. It was really heart-warming to see all the smiles,” President La-Shauna, Camperdown High School Key Club.

The key clubbers received sponsorship from Grace Kennedy Limited.
