How Drones Will Help Emergency Services

The UK government has announced almost £50 million in funding focused on the use of drones and related technology The GOVUK release explains that this funding is intended to help emergency services use drones more efficiently as part of normal operations.

The announcement outlines that the package aims to speed up approvals for drone operations for emergency responses, medical logistics and infrastructure inspection, driving forward regulation to get flying taxis in the sky from 2028

Drone operators will also benefit from a streamlined digital application process, reducing the time required to navigate regulations and prepare applications

Innovation must go hand in hand with strong security - that’s why over half of the investment will develop a new ID system to track drones in real-time, supporting emergency services and building public confidence in an industry that could be worth up to £103 billion by 2050

Helping to ease the demand through communication solutions

According to The NHS Alliance NHS Activity Tracker, there were more than 737,000 incidents in February 2026 - the highest February figure since records began in 2017. This ongoing demand is placing significant strain on the system and affecting overall performance.

We are pleased to have been awarded a place on the Countess of Chester Hospital framework - Commercial Procurement Services, F015 Asset and Contract Lifecycle Management framework

Services we offer under this framework include:

Appointed to LOT 1 - Provision of Asset and Contract Lifecycle Management Services for NHS Organisations

Appointed to LOT 2 - Provision of Asset and Contract Lifecycle Management Service for Public Non-NHS Organisations As the sole supplier appointed to this Lot, contracting authorities can award contracts directly without the need to run a further competition

Despite these challenges, there are encouraging signs of progress However, performance still falls short of national standards Read more about how Procurement Services solutions can support these demands

Understanding workforce pressures across policing

Policing continues to play a critical role in maintaining public safety, but workforce stability remains an evolving challenge across the sector Home Office data from 2025 shows that while recruitment has remained active, the number of officers has begun to decline slightly, and joiner numbers have reduced following the end of the National Uplift Programme.

At the same time, the number of officers leaving remains high, and in the latest year, slightly exceeded those joining, reinforcing the importance of focusing on retention as well as recruitment

Challenges faced by care homes

According to the CQC, the health and social care system continues to face sustained pressure, with demand increasing faster than capacity. Adult social care is a significant part of this picture, supporting more people with higher and more complex needs, often with fewer resources available

Strengthening the support fo your care home

Workforce challenges remain ongoing, with recruitment, retention, and rising costs affecting day-today delivery and long-term sustainability. The CQC reports vacancy levels in adult social care are three times higher than the wider job market.

System-wide pressure also affects how well services work together The CQC reports that information is "too often not shared properly" and services are "not joined up " , affecting coordination and transition of care.

Despite these challenges, the CQC recognises that strong leadership, partnership working, and practical support can help services maintain safe, person-centred care, even in a stretched system

What could care homes look at to mitigate some of these challenges?

New ways of managing increasing and more complex care needs

Solutions to sustain a stable workforce.
