KCS THE RIGHT FIT FOR OAK WOOD SCHOOL PROJECT
Oak Wood School, in Hillingdon, Middlesex, is a new build co-educational school which welcomed its first 500 pupils in January (2018). The school is set to grow into a nine form entry school accommodating about 1,350 pupils aged 11–16 plus another 200 in the sixth form.
The school has been completely kitted out with ICT equipment and furniture by consultant Sarah Wood, a former banker who has 20 years of experience in Facilities Management and Construction. She is Lead Consultant for Schools at Educational Facilities Management (EFM), a company which has been providing specialist advice and guidance related to the maintenance and development of educational establishments in the UK for more than 25 years.
“New schools don’t come along every day,” said Sarah. “Every time we deliver a new school, we have learnt something new, and one thing we regard as most important is a robust and competitive procurement process.”
CASE CASE STUDY STUDY
Oak Wood School Hillingdon
She began by researching and speaking to seven or eight companies, meeting lots of people in the furniture business and checking out their experience, knowledge and references before short-listing five companies who were invited to tender.
Sarah said: “I focused on best value, quality and relevant experience. I also wanted a commitment that we would get the same team working with us throughout the process that we would be dealing with the same person at the end of the project as I had at the beginning.”
KCS did everything they said they would do. The procurement was completed on time and on budget with no hassle and I was particular impressed with the way they collaborated with the building contractors to ensure everything went smoothly.
Sarah Wood, Lead Consultant for Schools at Educational Facilities Management (EFM)
KCS won the contract and worked closely with Sarah to fully equip the state-of-the-art classrooms in readiness for the school’s gradual expansion to full capacity over the next few years.
Sarah said she had worked closely with her dedicated KCS representative Adam Cotter, who liaised with her at every stage of the process.
Sarah concluded: “Adam was very professional and the whole process of equipping the school went very well. I would not hesitate to recommend KCS who have provided us with a good service in our work with Oak Wood School.”
