The next generation starts here

Bush House, South West Wing

A world-class space fit for a world-class university

Since 1829, King’s has been educating the brightest minds and serving society from London’s Strand. Now, almost 200 years later, we are continuing that mission through a visionary redevelopment of the historic Bush House’s South West Wing.

The Strand is one of London’s most iconic thoroughfares – a vibrant showcase of history, culture, government and education. In recent years, King’s has strengthened and enriched its presence here through a series of transformative redevelopments. The South West Wing

will build on this momentum, anchoring our place at the heart of the Strand and elevating the experience for everyone who learns, teaches and connects here.

King’s today

• Student numbers on the Strand have almost doubled in the last 10 years and continue to grow.

• Half of our students call this campus home.

• The newly pedestrianised Strand welcomes 14 million visitors every year.

Inspiration, collaboration & belonging

The South West Wing will be a place where ideas spark and community flourishes.

Where students can hear from global leaders and innovators, then break off to reflect and debate with friends.

Researchers from across disciplines can work side by side to tackle shared challenges.

King’s widening participation programmes will welcome young learners onto campus, and services supporting students to thrive will be just steps away.

Elevating the student experience

The South West Wing will make it easier than ever for our students to feel at home – and to make the most of their time at King’s.

• Flexible, contemporary facilities for studying and connection, designed to mirror modern working environments.

• The largest single student space across all our campuses.

• A home from home where our community can engage, socialise and recharge in the heart of London.

‘King’s College London’s identity is defined by its location, but space is tight in the heart of this city and students have limited dedicated space to study, connect and access support. The South West Wing is an opportunity to create a true student home: a place for learning, community, wellbeing and belonging. Supporting it is an investment in the everyday student experience, an homage to our international standing and a legacy that will benefit the King’s community for generations to come.’

A launchpad for lifelong success

At King’s, we know every student’s journey is unique. The challenges they face are just as varied. Our ambition is to support every student, every step of the way – from before they enter university to long after they graduate. The South West Wing will help us make this ambition a reality.

The South West Wing will provide an inviting and inspiring setting for our widening participation programmes, which welcome young learners from across the capital and beyond who are underrepresented in higher education.

A new Student Hub will bring together all student support, from careers guidance to wellbeing advice, in one seamless and accessible space.

The building will be the new home of King’s Edge – our flagship enrichment programme that builds skills, confidence, networks and career readiness – helping to realise our goal to engage 80% of students by 2030.

Opening the conversation

Inspired by the democratic forums of Ancient Greece, the Agora will bring together diverse voices in academia, industry, culture and society.

The 160-seat auditorium’s circular, flexible layout will facilitate meaningful dialogue between speakers and audiences. From thought-provoking talks and interactive panels to collaborative working and showcases, the Agora will foster new ways of sharing ideas and experiences.

Shaping solutions together

The South West Wing will bring together thinkers, leaders and changemakers from across King’s and beyond.

Stimulating spaces for interdisciplinary study and collaboration will accelerate a key strength of King’s –the ability to work seamlessly across disciplinary boundaries on shared challenges.

The South West Wing will provide a dedicated space for our growing programme of research into the impacts of digital and artificial intelligence on science and society.

‘The South West Wing is central to our ambition to enhance the student and staff experience and ensure that King’s continues to attract talented students from all around the world – both now and in the future.’

World-changing buildings like this just aren’t possible without philanthropy. Visionary donors help us to think big and to deliver big – for our students, for our communities and for the societies we serve across the globe.
