Give KC 2020

Page 1

Publisher’s Note ive KC continues this year as a celebration of National Philanthropy Day and Giving Tuesday. This year, the philanthropic spirit of Kansas City is much needed in the time of COVID-19. Although the philanthropic response to the pandemic has shown the sector at its best, now is a wonderful time to encourage everyone to continue to volunteer, give, donate, and sponsor the non-profit organizations that are close to our hearts. Thank you to Saint Luke’s Foundation who once again sponsored Give KC. Saint Luke’s Foundation was founded in 1963 to support the Saint Luke’s Health System which includes 18 hospitals and campuses across the Midwest. They provide financial assistance to support medical care for patients, education of health care professionals, medical research, subsidized health services, and community health programs. We at The Independent are so deeply grateful for the healthcare workers in Our Town and their compassionate care during these trying times. Our beautiful cover has once again been designed by Michelle Spigarelli of Painting Petunias. Born in Our Town, Michelle was raised in Darien, Connecticut, and now lives in Lee’s Summit. You can find more of Michelle’s wonderful work on Instagram @paintingpetunias.
