Welcome to the 2024-25 Kentucky Country Day Arts Season! We are thrilled to have you join us for what promises to be an exciting and inspiring year of creativity, exploration, and growth. Our program is dedicated to nurturing the artistic talents of every student, whether through music, visual arts, dance, theater, or any other form of creative expression.
From Yo, Vikings! to Alice in Wonderland to the Upper School Art Show rounding out the fall, to a Middle School visual arts and theater showcase, choir, and orchestra concerts in the spring ... students are showcasing that KCD’s arts program is second to none.
At Kentucky Country Day School, we are committed to providing a supportive, inclusive, and inspiring environment where students of all experience levels can thrive. Whether your child is just beginning their artistic journey or is ready to refine their skills, we are here to guide and inspire them every step of the way.
Thank you for attending this event and supporting the arts at KCD. These productions would not be possible without the dedication of our arts faculty and volunteers. Please take a moment to learn more about all of our arts offerings throughout the pages of this arts bill and by visiting www.kcd.org/arts.
Enjoy the show!

In May 2024, the Bearcat Singers’ performance of Little Red Riding Hood ended with a very sweet surprise! Carter Wood Sartor ’89, who wrote KCD’s School Song, joined us for a special moment to celebrate the many years of brilliant music education that Mrs. Ary and Mrs. Hayes shared with our Bearcat Community.

• Sound upgrades for the KCD
Early this school year, SystemMax, a local, professional sound company, spent several weeks on campus working on sound upgrades to the KCD Theater. This project was made possible by the combined support of KCD operations, the KCD Arts Guild, and several individual donors. The work includes multiple benefits for our student performers and audience members. The new footprint of the system is far less intrusive, allowing for more space for actors and less chance of feedback. The system is also simplified and more flexible, making it user-friendly for beginners and advanced sound technicians. We will now have the ability to quickly and easily connect an iPad to remotely adjust the sound anywhere in the theater—even backstage. Additionally, the sound quality will be more uniform throughout the theater. Six new rear-fill speakers will not be seen from the audience, they will make a tremendous impact on sound quality. These improvements and additions to our beautiful theater were custom-built for our space by the sound professionals at SystemMax, and we are thrilled to experience the changes with student productions this year!
A special thank you to the following families who helped make this project possible through financial contributions: Linda & Kenneth Harschberger (in honor of Reagan Johnson ’27), Rebecca & Patrick Jennings, Matthew Johnson, Tracey & Stephan Johnson, Gentry Easley & Doug Lotz, Amy & Todd Purkiss.
Our STEAM program is turning up the heat! In the spring of 2024, KCD unveiled its new 370 sq. ft ceramics annex housing three gas kilns, two of which were added thanks to a generous gift from the Rigney Family. With the largest kiln, students now have the capability to fire bigger projects and implement advanced glazing techniques due to its higher temperatures. We are thrilled to have this new addition on campus and can't wait to see the amazing projects our Bearcats will create!
