Letter from our Board Chair

Dear Friends, This past year we completed the translation of 21 of the 24 students’ manuals for the Educator in the Faith Diploma, allowing us to extend our educational offering to other English-speaking African countries. The bishops of Zambia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Malawi have all shown their keen interest in our presence in their dioceses, something we hope to achieve in 2018.

While our priority for 2017 was fundraising, year-over year our revenue actually dropped by 34%

($32,350 in 2016 vs. $21,285.45 in 2017). It is true that 2017 was “a fraught year for the global development community”1 and we are thankful for the donations we did receive from our generous sponsors during these difficult economic times.

Despite the loss of revenue, and thanks to careful administration of the resources entrusted to CANELA, we managed a corresponding decrease of only 11% in the amount of money paid out in grants ($21,069 in 2016 vs. $18,736 in 2017).

Clearly then, we must intensify our fundraising efforts. You can help by promoting our Facebook page and our new canelacharity.com website starting up in 2018, sharing our success stories, and fostering trust in our organization’s top-rated use of the hard-earned funds our donors which you can consult in this report on the page showing our Financial Efficiency Performance Indicators.
