Over break , I was going through my ar t supplies. With plaster, magazines, paint , flowers, pearls, and a big old canvas. I was able to create “ The Imper fect.” The concept behind “ The Imper fect ” was inspired by water ripples and rings. We have a major idea of how we see nature as per fect when, in realit y, it ’s not. The water rings themselves look seamless, but with the ring expanding, they dissolve into a more imper fect form. Going along, flowers and pearls are things in nature seen as “per fect ” but hold imper fections. This shines a light on the misjudgment of the way people see things as “per fect.” In realit y, nothing will ever be per fect. The most beautiful forms hold imper fections.

The concept for The Ry thm is focused on the fact of what a piece of ar twork can do for someone’s day. The colors and organic forms are somewhat opposite, but within this work , they coexist. The organic forms and glissing rhinestones provide a visual rhy thm to the piece. Making it a bold piece for viewers to pay attention and come closer for a better look . Bringing the world back to a place of appreciating the ar t that surrounds us ever y day.

This project is a reconstructed version of something I made in the past , “ The Ry.” Unfor tunately, I was not able to conver t this piece into a full lamp, like my initial idea. The shade is a dramatic piece that will add a statement to any room. The initial concept for this piece was that I wanted to show a time when I struggled with my mental health but was able to overcome it. There is a dark base made out of ½ in. basswood that is painted black . The structure shows the darkness or demons in life. ( Think of a time when you had a demon in your

life.) The color ful string being laid on top of the structure is a representation of being able to overcome your demons and see the beaut y in life. The strings that are spaced apar t show the black structure. It ’s a representation that you might fall a couple of times before getting up and fighting again. The one statement I have believed in for the majorit y of my life is that “ever y thing happens for a reason.” Which is truly what has been able to get me to overcome the demons in my life. This lighting fix ture will be suspended above the ground and provide light with purpose. A s it will ser ve as the main unfiying light , it will hold shadow elements that make the piece intriguing to look at.

I was ver y hesitant at first when this project was introduced in class because I had a beautiful image pictured in my mind. Creating what I saw in my imagination was scar y because it can look amazing in my head, but executing it to look how I pictured isn’ t as easy. Three years ago I lost my childhood best friend to taking her own life. This is why it is called " The Ry ". I wanted to show in this piece a time when I struggled with my mental health but have been able to overcome it.

The problem we had to solve through this project was creating a structure out of found objects, showing the concept loosely over time. The found objects should also complement and go together smoothly. I used a vintage jewelr y box that was showing aging on the metal and was star ting to rust or have loose polish. I had some aged flowers in my room and thought those would be per fect to put on the inside of the box . The flowers and jewelr y box are both aged and show the decay that time has had on cer tain objects. The fresh flowers coming out of the top are also showing the life and, somewhat , the aging process of flowers.
