The show is directed by Becca Antonakos-Belanger with musical direction by Emily Benjamin and features young performers from The Majestic Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for seniors (65 and older), and $12 for youth (17 and under).

oncord artists Laura Morrison and Maureen Redmond-Scura will present their bead and fiber art in a two-person exhibition, Stitched Together: Friendship, Feminism, and Craft, at the Two Villages Art Society in Contoocook. The show opens Jan. 11 at the gallery, located at 846 Main Street.

The exhibit explores themes of friendship, feminism, and craft through complementary works by the two artists, who draw inspiration from nature and women’s roles in society.

Morrison, a mixed-media fiber artist, combines traditional techniques such as felting, weaving, and embroidery to create sculptures and wall works. Redmond-Scura, a bead artist, crafts jewelry and three-dimensional objects, often in-

2025 ski and snowboard tour schedule The Vertical Challenge has announced its 2025 family ski and snowboard tour schedule, featuring 25 races at 24 resorts across seven states.

The schedule includes a special Valentine’s Day event at Cannon Mountain.

This marks the largest number of events for the Vertical Challenge (VC) since 2015. All races are free with the purchase of a lift ticket at the host resort.

Standard daytime events

will follow the traditional format: registration opens at 7:30 a.m., the festival and sampling village starts at 9 a.m., racing runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and awards are presented at 1:30 p.m.

Along with the Cannon Mountain event, the tour includes two other New Hampshire stops: Pats Peak on Feb. 9 and McIntyre on Feb. 15.

Jeffrey Boutwell to present biography

G

ibson’s Bookstore in Concord will host author Jeffrey Boutwell on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 6:30 p.m. for a discussion of his new biography, Boutwell: Radical Republican and Champion of Democracy. The event, held at 45 South Main Street, is free and open to the public, with no registration required.

In his book, Boutwell introduces readers to George Sewall Boutwell, a Massachusetts native who played a significant role in shaping 19th-century American politics. Over a seven-decade career, Boutwell championed causes including racial equality, economic justice, and the principled use of American power abroad.

Despite his considerable influence, he remains a relatively unknown figure in

U.S. history.

From 1840 to 1905, Boutwell was deeply involved in efforts to abolish slavery and establish the Republican Party. He worked closely with President Lincoln to fund the Union war effort and facilitate the Emancipation Proclamation. Boutwell also spearheaded the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson and contributed to drafting and passing the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments, which secured civil rights protections.

During Reconstruction, Boutwell investigated white terrorism in the South and

helped shape the modern American economy while serving under President Ulysses S. Grant. Later, he opposed American imperialism after the SpanishAmerican War, aligning with notable figures like Andrew Carnegie, Mark Twain, and Booker T. Washington.

The biography also explores Boutwell’s personal story, from his humble beginnings as the son of a Massachusetts farming family to his clashes with political giants like Henry Cabot Lodge and Teddy Roosevelt.

Jeffrey Boutwell, a historian and public policy ex-

pert, offers readers a detailed examination of George Boutwell’s contributions while critiquing governance during one of the nation’s most turbulent periods. Jeffrey Boutwell holds a Ph.D. in political science from MIT and has written extensively on politics, arms control, and security issues. He and George Boutwell share a common ancestor, James Boutwell, who emigrated from Eng-

land to Massachusetts in 1632.
