Community Gathers for the 14th Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in Memory of Chelsey Lafernier October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and on Saturday, October 7, 2023 approximately 100 KBIC tribal members and other community members gathered together in solidarity of an end to domestic violence at the 14th Annual KBIC Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in memory of Chelsey LaFernier.

remarks from our KBIC Tribal President, Doreen Blaker. President Doreen Blaker stated, “There is no tolerance for domestic violence on our reservation”. Following the opening remarks, the group of participants, composed of men, women, and children, began the 25 minute walk to the Niiwin Akeea gym. Following the walk, the event continued at the Niiwin Akeea gym with a feast, guest speakers, and raffle of many wonderful prizes!
