Our mission is to reduce the environmental impact of plastic pollution through education, community engagement, and direct action, including environmental cleanups, active recycling programs, public art installations, creative collaborations, and the development of new collecting, sorting, and recycling techniques.

Free Plastic has successfully tranformed plastic pollution into trophies, lazy susans, stools, coffee tables, wall art, tiles & letters, public art, valets, jewlry, and more. With our mobile recycling laboratory, we travel South Florida educating our communities about the reality of recyling while also cleaning up our local environment. Learn more at www.freeplastic.org

Our mission is to have citizen and professional scientists monitor and protect resources and to share information on the most critical natural resources of Key Biscayne and Virginia Key.

Established by the Key Biscayne Community Foundation, the Citizen Scientist Project seeks to have Key residents work with professional scientists to achieve four goals: (1) Learn about the natural resources of Key Biscayne and Virginia Key; (2) Experience the natural resources of the Key through participation in field trips; (3) Participate in citizen scientist projects, which are directed at protecting the natural resources of the Island; and (4) Suggest projects for the Citizen Scientist Project.

CITIZEN SCIENTIST PROJECT

For over 18 years, former Key Biscayne Police Chief Charles Press and his department have worked to positively impact the relationship between the police and the children in Liberty City.

Chief Press created a charitable fund at the Key Biscayne Community Foundation in 2004 to raise money for the purchase of hundreds of toys for Liberty City children and hundreds of turkeys for Liberty City seniors during the Christmas season. Building on Chief Press’ charitable work, in 2013 the Village of Key Biscayne partnered with the Miami Children’s Initiative (MCI) to create a Sister City Initiative with Liberty City.
