Director’s Note
Hello and welcome to Forever Plaid,
We are so happy you could join us. Today we take you back to a simpler time in life when families sat around the radio or television together and took in different variety shows. The 1960s were filled with shows like The Andy Williams Show, The Dick Clark Show, The Perry Como Show, and The Ed Sullivan Show that highlighted upcoming musical talent such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Four Tops, The Righteous Brothers, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley & His Comets, and so many more.
Today, Frankie, Sparky, Jinx, and Smudge take you on what they hope to be their penultimate concert. This is their chance to sing like so many they have seen on some of these variety shows. With tight harmonies and fun and creative musical numbers we get a little glimpse into the lives of four singers whose lives were cut short, when their car was hit by a school bus full of parochial schoolgirls. Today the group comes back to us because the cosmos has aligned and given them the chance to perform one last time. Should they finish out this concert or is it better to stay in the moment? That is the big decision of these four men.
Forever Plaid is produced as one our Centennial productions leading up to our 100th season. Forever Plaid was first produced in 1998 at the Civic Auditorium and was directed by Ben Zylman, music directed by Marie McColley-Kerstetter and choreographed by Kathleen Weissert. This production was a significant part of the Civic’s history as this show was then performed for almost another year in competitions in Monroe, Michigan, Muncie, Indiana and Memphis, Tennessee. This production took numerous honors which included winning the state and the regional competition. Today we honor that show by using some of the ideas from the original production. We even have two of the original band members back to play the show again, Mark Tomlonson and Andy Knibloe, as well as a crew member, Kris Tyrrell.
Sit back, relax, and hum along if you want. We hope you enjoy your time with the “Plaids.”

DEDICATION
Forever Plaid is dedicated to the “good guys”; to the guys who wheeled the projector carts for the AV club; to the guys who saved their allowance to give their parents a special night on the town for their anniversary; to the guys who carried an extra handkerchief; to the guys who never went beyond first base, and if they did, they didn’t tell anyone.
We Salute You!
