Data was collected online by YouGov Omnibus between 20 and 30 October 2017 among 1,727 respondents in Malaysia. Results are representative of the adult online population.

The latest research reveals the extent of clothes waste in Malaysia. It finds that seven in ten Malaysians (68%) have thrown clothes away at some point in the past year and a quarter (25%) have thrown away more than ten items of clothing in the past year.

Fashion is one of big business in Malaysia, with more than one in ten (12%) estimating that they own over 100 garments (excluding underwear or accessories). Millennials (those aged between 16 and 34) have the highest prop ortion of new clothing; 37% of millennials say they have purchased at least half of the clothes that they own in the past year alone. This compares with 23% of baby boomers (those over 55) that say the same.

One in ten millennials (10%) say that, in general, they keep their clothes for under a year before throwing them away. 6% of baby boomers say the same.

Our programmes 1)Fashion is one of the most wasteful industries in the world. Malaysia reportedly produced two million kilogrammes of textile waste a day in 2018.

Clothing takes many years to decompose; a cotton t-shirt can take up to six years to degrade, while nylon textiles can take anywhere between 40 and 50 years to break down.

Customers can donate clothes that are not needed to us through our store to avoid wasting

To gather local fashion designers to showcase their collections, made with unwanted materials from worn wedding dresses and workers’ uniforms to bedsheets and sleeping bags, which were transformed into high fashion pieces.

Up-cycling - the transformation of materials into products of equal or higher quality and value.
