Happy 2024 Aqua Apes! Happy New Year D34N! It’s been a minute since I published a newsletter! My bad. I’ve finally finished all of my college apps and to whoever is going through the application process like me, good luck! I hope you get into your top choices! A lot has happened these past few months. First of all, we did it again! We got top three! Thank you to the club, division and district leadership teams who helped put FRN together! We couldn’t do it without you all. Secondly, Holiday-A-Thon was a blast! The workshops were unforgettable and I got to meet some new and familiar faces there. I hope to see you all again sometime soon. I’ve also had the opportunity to go against Key Clubbers in tennis during tennis season and it was fun talking about key club during the tennis matches. This edition of the Aqua Ape magazine will cover member recognition on pages 8 and 9 so please check them out! You definitely don’t want to miss out on potentially getting an award for your hard work! Next I’ve decided to include some extra articles and visuals to show you all what some clubs have been up to these past few months along with some drawings I wanted to put on previous newsletters. Then on page 31, you’ll learn about DCON which is an event where you’ll get to meet key clubbers from all over the district and welcome the new term! Please check out page 31 for more information on DCON 2024!

Hello Aqua Apes! Congratulations on finishing strong and surviving 2023. We succeeded! We've developed so much in the past year, and it's been amazing to watch, from adjusting to in-person events to surpassing our original fundraising goal. I'm very happy with all our division was able to do and adapt to this year. Unbelievably, the term is nearing its end, and a new LTG elect will be chosen shortly. Though it seems corny, time has indeed flown by. I wanted to express my gratitude for all of your efforts over the past year and to urge you all to continue. We still have time to complete our division goals and keep going to events because the term hasn't yet ended! In the upcoming months, there will be a lot to look forward to, so be sure to read the newsletter to find out what they are. I would want to remind everyone that as Conclave and our election of the next Lt. Governor draws near, there will be no campaigning as a candidate or on behalf of candidates. Please don't take this lightly; if it is observed occurring, the candidate will receive a warning or be eliminated from the election. I wish everyone the best of luck! For further information on how to participate as a delegate at Conclave, get in touch with your club president. Last but not least, don't wait until the last minute to turn in your e-portfolios for district/division contests—the deadline is drawing near! Cheers to a great 2024 and have a joyful new year!

Hello! Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good Christmas with your family and didn't receive any coal. I'm so glad we had winter break and I had so much fun seeing family and spending time with them right after finals. As for my seniors, I hope if any of you guys applied to colleges with EA that you got into whatever you wanted! As for everyone else, I hope your finals and grades turned out the way you hoped they did and that you're all on your own path of success. At times in your life, things may not always go your way as well, but maybe it happened that way for a reason. I hope you've all been well, and I'll see you all again next month! Bum dum tss. Lu out.

Who is eligible? a) Any dues paid member that has paid by December 1st from clubs in good standing throughout the Cali-Nev-Ha Key Club District is eligible. A member may start counting service hours or other MRP requirements before their dues are paid, however they will not be official until dues are paid. If you were already a dues paid member of Key Club in the previous year and are in good standing, you may count summer hours. Those who transfer schools may also have their hours transferred over to the new school that they attend. When is the MRP applicable? a) All Key Club sponsored activities held from April 1st, 2023 to January 31st, 2024 count towards the MRP award. Do I need to submit anything for MRP? a) The Member Recognition Program is recorded by your club Secretary, meaning they should be the ones keeping track of your MRP status. You do not need to submit anything yourself as a member, but make sure your club submits their club MRP data on time and accurately to your Division Lt. Governor. How do I keep track of my MRP status? a) You can use the MRP Checklist to keep track of your MRP status. Your club will keep track of your status through the MRP tab on the club Monthly Report Form your officers fill out. Can a single event be counted within two different categories? a) Yes. Some events fall under multiple categories. For example, if your club hosts a beach clean-up service project with your local Kiwanis Club, this would count towards both and “Kiwanis Event” and possibly “Interclub.”

FRN Recap Congrats D34N, we got top 3 again :D Good job to everyone who participated and thank you to the Division and District leadership teams for making this possible <3 Let’s do this again at FRN 2024!!
RTC Recap The annual Region Training Conference from October 14th-15th, at Camp Jones Gulch, was a great opportunity to meet other Key Clubbers! Rotating through all of the different leadership workshops and learning more about Key Club in such a welcoming environment was amazing. Adding on to the fun was the classic camp experience, with exciting campfire activities and a talent show! It was great to make friends from other divisions and participate in cheers, skits, and bonding activities with them. Overall, the Region Training Conference was an amazing experience to make new friends and learn more about Key Club, as well as leadership as a whole. From the mouthwatering food to the Hunger Games-themed districts to the skits, every part of the weekend was packed with one fun activity after the next. I would absolutely do this event again, and I hope to see some more Key Clubbers from our district at the next one!

SF Giants Race Volunteering at oracle park was pretty fun! It was nice to volunteer in the arena as it was pretty big and the first time I was in there. I saw Lou the Seal and lost the opportunity to get a group pic with him. But other than that, we met our Calculus teacher, some Japanese exchange students, and a really nice volunteer coordinator.

Jefferson Food Bank Before the food distribution, the school had loads of bread stationed which I helped place and organize into boxes. When it was time for food distribution, we created three stations on our side of the food drive, and in our group, split the work among each other. There were a greater variety of food options during this food pantry, so we assigned ourselves to be responsible for more things. We worked in a specific manner that helped fit everything into the trunks of the cars by placing the boxes of produce and other large items first and then the smaller products. Keeping this in mind, I also made sure to assist my group members in carrying produce boxes whenever needed since they were heavier and compared to my tasked food items, takes longer to put into the cars. I think the food pantry went very well since we coordinated competently.

Today I volunteered at oracle park. I watched the snack area and handed out bobble heads. I drank a coke and ate a Rice Krispie.

Coastal Cleanup Day The coastal cleanup was a great event to participate in! I was there for two hours, and in that time I worked with other Key Club members to clean up Twin Pines park and the creeks near this area. Volunteers also had the opportunity to drive to other locations and cleanup, but Key Club stayed by Twin Pines. We were able to pick up a lot of trash and even found some crazy trash like a dog bowl! It was great helping cleanup of the planet, and I would definitely do it again!
Sunday Streets Western Addition This is the first Sunday Streets that I ever attended and I’m so glad I did. This was an amazing experience as I was able to help set up tents, tables, chairs, and move around sandbags. I was also able to see just how much work and setting up it takes for these kind of event, but overall, I would definitely attend more in the future.
Kailani Chow | Westmoor The experience was quite rewarding and, overall, fun. It felt good to help set up for something that I now know was a good, worthy cause. Furthermore, I enjoyed the feeling of, after the set up, when everyone had already arrived, looking out over the event and seeing how much the street had changed from beginning to end.

Daniela Cuadros | Carlmont I was fortunate enough to attend the Twin Pine coast cleanup on September 23. It was a great experience and I would love to do it again! It felt so amazing to be able to give back to my community by cleaning up a public area that I have great memories at.

Post Goblin Walk Clean Up
Campus Clean Up I picked up trash like plastic wrappers, cups, gum wrappers, glass bottles. Other people were picking up trash as well. Mr carson complemented our work saying that we did well. It was really hot but we still manage to go through it. I enjoyed cleaning the campus and helping the environment
Terence Cayabyab | Jefferson During the Campus Clean-Up, I was with other Jeff students and picked up trash. There were trash bags and gloves provided for us. I paired up with someone and picked up trash while the other person held the bag for me and also picked trash up. There were mainly food and gum wrappers that we picked up. Although it was so hot and tiring, we still went out and picked up as much trash as we could. A staff member also thanked us for our service.

The Post-Goblin Walk was an event where you pick up trash. The event happened at the end at the Goblin Walk. The Goblin Walk is a San Carlos event where individuals pass out candy to kids walking on the street during October. In The Post-Goblin, some friends and I walked around and picked up trash from the goblin walk. That was great since the people leading the event were very organized. They had trash bags, cans, gloves, and numerous other supplies to help aid in the clean-up. The people of San Carlos valued the work, and almost everyone thanked the people working there; overall, it was a great experience. The people there were friendly, and it was well put together.

Annual Safeway Nourishing Neighbors Food Drive The annual Safeway Nourishing Neighbors Food Drive on Saturday, November 18th, was an amazing opportunity to get involved with the community! This event allowed us to promote the Second Harvest Food Drive, and gave us the chance to help out families in our neighborhood have a great Thanksgiving. We passed out flyers in front of Safeway and collected donations for the food drive from shoppers. The Kiwanis advisors were friendly and helpful, ensuring that we had a great time volunteering! Overall, this meaningful event is one that I look forward to attending again next year, and one I will definitely recommend to Key Clubbers in the future.
Thornton Beach Cleanup This cleanup was very fun - I was able to interact with others from WHS. At first I wasn’t able to find lots of trash but the closer I got to the beach the more there was. There was also people walking across the hills and they would greet us and thank us! That reminded me that cleanup up for the community is an amazing task and I would 100% do it again!
Kristin Dela Cruz | Westmoor I really enjoyed the clean up experience at Thornton Beach. It felt very rewarding knowing I was doing good in my community and for the environment. We found a lot of good spots for trash, as well. I did think we would go onto the actual beach, but the experience was beautiful nonetheless.

We are sorry to bring you the sad news that Kiwanis Key Club Advisor Gerry Weiss has passed away. Gerry was a very active and dedicated Key Club Advisor for many years until his health started to fail last year. He was a passionate and dedicated Advisor to numerous Key Clubs including Aragon, Burlingame, Hillsdale, San Mateo, Jefferson and Westmoor High Schools when they needed some help. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Key Clubs for over 15 years (you kids always impressed him!). He will be missed.

What is SOSP? The Spotlight on Service Program is a CNH program designed to promote the service goals of the CNH District. By focusing on different themes each month, clubs are able to host a variety of service, social, and fundraising events that all go towards important causes in the community.
January SOSP: Children’s Miracle Network CMN is an organization & preferred charity dedicated to helping hospitalized children by funding hospitals, research, and families who cannot afford healthcare expenses.

During the month of November, many key clubbers hosted and attended service events, held fundraisers and helped out the community with various tasks. One task that D34N did in November was the Annual Safeway Nourishing Neighbors Food Drive.
Planning a service/social/fundraising project for September’s SOSP (TBD) & submitting it to the district can get your club 15 banana points!

CNH Key Club
For november the key club colts participated in the kiwanis safeway food bank awareness event, the november dcm, and as of lately they are attended holiday a thon and are aiding in other volunteering events!
Attendance has been steady throughout the last few weeks on average pulling about 10 active members. During club meetings we’ve been brainstorming ideas for club events and presenting agendas. We were able to Raise 140$ after selling out boba at our school's food fair on November 2nd. We were the first station to sell out at the fair. We also collaborated with Aragon to provide members service hour opportunities and to interact with the community deeper. Passed out flyers and assist in packing groceries at three different Safeway locations for our Safeway Food Drive on November 18th - 4 members attended for a total of 8 hours. Recently, we had participation in our district-wide Boba Battles from Nov 12th-18th and Holiday-A-Thon on Dec 3rd
We collabed with the Pre Med club to donate Thanksgiving cards to people in hospitals. We also attended the Foster City Safeway Nourishing Neighbors Food Drive with Div 34 Kiwanis and volunteered at the A Runner’s Mind Gobble Wobble Race.
In November, we hosted November DCM as well as sold spam masubi. We also collaborated with another club from our school as well currently planning future fundraisers.
Upon the holiday season arriving, so is our holiday Key Club spirit! We've initiated two board meetings directed towards heavy planning of what's to come these following months. Through these, we've already begun development of three events such as the hot chocolate run, homeless care package, and ice skating bonding event. Alongside, future planning of additional service events next year. In the middle of November, we also enjoyed our interclub service event cleaning the beautiful Thorton beach with Westmoor CSF.
