COUNTABLE ATHLETIC RELATED ACTIVITIES

COUNTABLE ATHLETIC-RELATED ACTIVITIES (CARA)

Student-athletes may not participate in CARA during vacation periods that occur in the academic year and the summer.

SCHOLARSHIPS

SCHOLARSHIPRENEWALS

Per the NCAA rules, all student-athletes must be notified in writing by July1st about their athletic scholarship.

Athletic scholarship renewals will be available to sign in Front Rush.

All athletic scholarship cancellations and reductions to scholarships will be emailed to your PBA email address.

Reductions and cancellations to athletic aid can be appealed within 14 days of the date of the letter. A hearing will be scheduled within 30 days of your written appeal request to the athletic compliance office.

To appeal, notify compliance in writing of your appeal request. Athletic compliance will communicate the details of the appeal process to the student-athlete.

CHAPEL

To be eligible for competition in 2023-24 academic, you had to complete both the 24 chapel hours and 45 Workship hours in addition to the NCAA Progress Towards Degree requirements (24 hours + 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA) from the 2022-23 academic year.

CHAPEL POLICY

All students will be required to receive 12 chapel credits PER SEMESTER

Chapel probation will result in a chapel probation fine of $20.00 for every chapel credit below the required number of chapel attendances.

A student on probation may not hold office or any type of leadership role.

In addition, the probation student will be required to complete church-related service hours.

A student on probation must attend 12 chapels during the semester in which the probation is being served. Students who do not meet the probation requirements will be suspended.

WORKSHIP POLICY

The following requirements are for all full-time undergraduate traditional students:

Each full-time undergraduate student must complete 45 hours of volunteer community service per school year.

Students beginning in the spring semester or graduating in the fall semester must complete 23 hours. A total of 180 hours are required before graduation if enrolled for four or more years.

Diplomas and transcripts will be released once the student has fulfilled the Workship requirement.

Verification from a supervisor is required on a Workship log or an agency letterhead stationary. Students may not be supervised by a relative.

All hours must be turned into the Workship Office by 5 p.m. on May 1, 2023. No exceptions.

Any makeup workshop hours completed over the summer must be submitted before classes start on August 21, 2023.

WORKSHIP

FALL SPORTS ONLY

Beginning June 1st, the strength and conditioning coach may:

Monitor a voluntary individual workout during the summer Design, direct, and conduct workout programs

WINTER/SPRING SPORTS

Coaches may NOT conduct summer workouts

INDIVIDUAL SPORTS

Applies to Cross Country, Golf, Tennis & Track

The coach is permitted to participate in individual workouts with athletes provided athletes initiate the request.

Safety exception allows the coach to be present during voluntary individual workouts in regular facilities when using equipment to provide safety or skill instruction but not to conduct workouts.

EXAMPLES OF MONITORING A WORKOUT

Observing and watching closely to ensure a safe and controlled environment. Includes virtual or zoom workouts. Demonstrating proper technique and giving advice to ensure the workout is taking place in an appropriate fashion.

EXAMPLES OF DIRECTING OR CONDUCTING A WORKOUT

Telling athletes to complete certain activities or lifts. Blowing a whistle or providing verbal or nonverbal cues to direct or pace drills.

All new/incoming student-athletes will need to be cleared by Athletic Training prior to participating in ANY workouts.

SOCIAL MEDIA

During the summer vacation period (when no CARA is allowed), please make sure you do NOT post videos that can trigger CARA.

This includes posting videos of athletic skills or abilities and tagging coaches or your PBA team account.

If you are in charge of your PBA team's social media accounts, do NOT post ANYTHING that shows's athletic skills/ability that can trigger CARA.

Utilize any group messenger or chat function

Once the PSA is signed with PBA, social media restrictions are lifted. Check with your coach or athletic compliance before commenting an a PSA or recruit.

SPORTS WAGERING

not allowed to bet on any sports that the professional equivalent of that NCAA-sponsored sport and its nt at ANY level is prohibited. ibited regardless of the sport the student-athlete participates in.

Example: Basketball. Athletes cannot bet on any NCAA, NAIA, NBA, or WNBA basketball games.

Penalties for sports wagering will be determined by the NCAA on a case-by-case basis.

NON-PBA COMPETITION

NCAA regulations govern all athletic activities that occur outside of a sport's regular playing season. Unapproved participation or receipt of extra benefits may adversely affect a student-athlete's eligibility.

WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE COMPLIANCE OFFICE IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO ANY OUTSIDE COMPETITION OR SUMMER ACTIVITY.

Example: SouthFlorida Collegiate Baseball League

Submit a "Non-PBA Team/Club/Participation Approval Form" on FrontRush prior to participating in any outside competition.

The Compliance Office will verify if the outside competition will impact your NCAA eligibility.

You will receive a notification of a decision within 48 hours

If no notification has been received, contact a member of the Compliance Team for more details.
