Design and Detail

Sem 6 : Building Construction

Typology : Community Centre

Location : Bimbisar Nagar Transit

Camp, Goregaon

The space shared between the communty is often standardized, neglected and thought as unecessary part of society. Public institutions, thinking space, local programmes etc are formed and evolved but because of these standard measures space change and choas forms.

what kind of community space does a transit camp holds?

Programme introduced to the community centre were -

- A community space

-Temple

- Shops

- Nursery

- Library - Gym

- Public toilet - Stage and green room

- Library - Clinic

- Playground - Balwadi

These were some exsisting and additional recreational spaces that were used in design process. The design holds the form of alleys and narrow dark spacces that is folded inside and outside by the walls of the programmes making it partially permeable and let the space be played by light and shadows.

1. Community Hall and Library
2. Balwadi
3. Temple
4. Gym
5. Clinic
6. Shops
7. Toilets
8. Green room and Pump room

The design holds the alleys and backways that are permeable and allows flow of community from space to space. It provides shaded areas and open spaces for people to justify the functioning of the space.

The roof of the community space is a play space and a nursery acting as a terrace garden or even play area where roofs acts as slides and different levels gets a funscape. The alleys , spaces under and above roof and functions allows to grip the community sense of one and for all as the exsisting site conditions function.

In the design a spatial detail was made which supports the argument of the space . In this space i designed particularly wooden louvres and sitting space covered by a tree at the centre for shade and controll tempreture.

Sem 6 : Building structure

Typology : Community Centre

Location : Bimbhisar Nagar, Goregaon

In this studio we continued the design module with working drawings, project managment, feasibility, costing of material etc. The studio focused the building part of the desig which started to filter out design problems and added new elements such that the space could be formed practically.

At the beginning we started with basic line out plan to locate on site and how will the construction start with process and duration it will take. Later we started with foundation plans, floor plans, sections, elevations, toilet

details, stair details and door window schedule.

SECTION B - B'

we started to explore different materials and details that would change the finishing of the space. Different stairs and toilet details were made to understand the working of systems.

- All dimensions are mentioned in millimetres and levels in metres unless otherwise specified. - Drawings are to be read in conjunction with other drawings. - P.C.C. (1:3:6) - Decisions pertaining to material proportions, structural calculations are to be acquired from structural engineer's drawings. - All discrepancies shall be brought to the notice of the Architect before commencement of any work. - Verify field conditions and coordination with the project documents prior to proceeding with the work. - Comply with all the applicable building codes, regulations and ordinances. All dimensions are unfinished dimensions unless otherwise specified.

Sem 6 : Enviormental flows

Typology : Public space and a Dormitory

Location : Daman

Loss of culture due to lack of a proper stratergies and a hardening tourist edge and the warehouse like unhuman living conditions for migrants/workers are the major concerns in the shehris located behind the Nani Daman fort. So how does one reconfigure the existing public and living space back environmental flows and comfort?

Our site was located near the nani Daman fort. The area around this fort has fishing village and sea on the other side. The village was depleting as new settlements , upgradation of hotels and different goverment projects were being introduced. The village had small passages for people to travell which are called shehris and the life started from these shehris towards the coast. But there is promenade developed at the coast which seems to have made a disturbance between the flow of people and the beach.

Our goal was to increase movements between shehris and villagers. Also to make a place that can be used by the voyagers and villagers to make this happen we planned out few iterations where we introduced concept of varanda. Here we created 2 different varandas and linked them with stilts such that it enables movement of world and adding vegetation and reservoir for ecology. In this image it is visible how there are fows that are involved. the positioning of varanda and placefor people to meet are calculated and made sure that it improves the way of living.

Labour Housing

Sem 6 : construction worker’s housing

Typology : Mass Inhabitation

Location : Ahemdabad

labour housing is a very major problem in urban spaces which is ignored and unaware.there are many labours that travel from different states and have thier families wander site to site with worst housing units. In this studio we tried to make a prototype using different case studies and studied new material for better housing conditions.

There were different housing communities exsisting like sewage Basti , factory sites where housing unit prototype where experimented and using those advantages and disadvantages prepare a better developed unit.

This was a basti near canal which was made by the workers with time. The basti holds a sense of community space along with the systems they built.

we started with positioning the houses as clusters and sharing spaces that allows them to live outside as well as inside.

Landscape of Divar Island

Sem 6 : understanding landscape

Typology : community

Location : Divar Island, Goa

Navelim is situated on the eastern border of Diwar Island. featuring a diverse typography that includes settlements, paddy fields, a stretchs of tall grass, mangroves. Initially the source of income for the island was fishing as a river flows along the edge of the island. Locals started with harvesting fishes by making bund walls and sluice gates and this lead to vast and various amaout of vegetation and ecology to form. The bund gates started to have marshy depositions and large paddy fields started to grow with a land of tall grass. Intresting thing was as seasons started to change there was a grade of colours and texture to change as if a live painting starts to flow. These bund walls, ponds and mangroves were now slowly destroyed as edges of the island are taken by the private companies to harvest fishes with last pesticides, chemicals and uncontrolled fishing environmental flows and comfort?

soon mangroves start dominating the edges and newer mangroves start forming, along with that tall grass land and paddy field go barren as the edge starts to grow.

Breaching of bund wall

in monsoon, saline estuarine saline water infiltrates the cultivated land, the salts starts to deposit and causing the cultivation of paddy field to shift its position and replaced by tall grass and replacing freshwater and fauna.

In winter grass dries up and paddy is harvested again.

Tardigrade

vSem 2 : pest as pet

Typology : Soft toy

Pest as pets, a perspective of how would pest be treated as pets if size, texture and colour is changed or maybe used as design major. I made a soft toy as my media where a microscopic creature called tardigrade that lived longer then dinosaurs. these creatures are water bears found in any waterbody as they just eat , poop nad exsist. In reality they are ugly looking vreature with transparent body.

The design idea was what if the scale of the pest is increased?
