A community driven initiative to cater for commerce adjacent to the commercial spine road of Mehrauli. The new urban bazaar focuses on fostering a sense of local culture through contemporary elements of construction while also allowing for creative community engagement amidst the dense inhabitation that is Mehrauli. The project is thus envisioned as a holistic community space promoting small scale trade whilst reinforcing the history and the dense social fabric.
MASSING STRATEGY
The whole trade system was identified to mainly be of two categories - a conceirge model with a rigid trade framework and a community model with a more fluid trade framework.

The green roof acts a community recreation space for the densely overcrowded populace, substituting for the lack of open collaborative greens in the context of the site. The open marketplace has public access via the central courtyard whilst the basement is accessible only from within the smaller shop units by the retailer/owner. Outlet sizes are predetermined but flexible within the modules to allow for easy modification of smaller units to larger ones predicated on the products traded, with each shop module connected to the basement storage of the containing module.
BUILDING ENVELOPE
Simple,cost effective, vernacular materials in a contemporary characteristic, blending the present with the past and creating a space that seamlessly marries modern functionality with timeless elegance.
Traditional Brick jali used on substantial parts of the envelope to combat the scorching heat while also establishing transparecy of modules with the users without hindering privacy
Exposed raw concrete bands pertaining to a modern architectural style thus seamlessly blending the present with its essential past
South facing louvers on green roofs allowing for maximum usability in the outdoor environment
