Jeanne Muchnick About Me

There are 7 things yo u nee d to know abo ut me:

✔ I’m honest (meaning I write it like it is…). ✔ I have two girls that are now going through teenage angst, so it’s a hormonal minefield at my house. ✔ I have a dog (a male so my husband has some testosterone in the house), a husband, as well as an overcharged Mastercard for all the beauty products my kids need (including the hair straightener everyone fights over). ✔ I don’t believe in overscheduling kids (Call me oldfashioned but I believe playing with neighborhood kids – if there were any around who weren’t off at ballet or piano or soccer is a good thing). ✔ I do a lot of frozen pizzas for dinner and have a dining room table so scattered with mail and other junk that I often forget what it looks like. ✔ My latest “aha” moment entailed finding the remote under the sofa cushions (Oprah doesn’t know what she’s missing!). ✔ I’m jealous of Michelle Obama. In another life, I could have married Barak and charmed the nation with my toned arms and J.Crew outfits. My new book, Dinner for Busy Moms is on sale. To pick up a copy (it’s all about salvaging the family meal when you’re NOT a cook! And yes, I wrote it before Laurie David did hers. Oh, to be married to a celebrity and have a ghost writer). My Professional Si de

I started my career as an editorial assistant at Seventeen Magazine, then moved my way through various editorial posts in both the trade and consumer press including Good Housekeeping, Travel Agent, and Entrée. I served as the Travel Editor at Woman’s World for seven years and the Editor-in-Chief of BaBY Magazine for three. Most recently, I was a Senior Editor at the InTown Magazine network at the Westchester, NY-based Journal News and the Editor of The Bridal Guide. My first book, Dinner for Busy Moms (Plain White Press) extols the virtues of the “good enough” meal. (I’m all about YOU not feeling GUILTY about anything!!) Along the way, I’ve freelanced for a variety of media outlets. With life increasingly going digital, I’ve joined the online revolution, writing for MomCentral.com, MomLogic, TravelingMom.com, RealSavvyMom.com, Family.com, Sprout, RoleMommy and more. And now, finally, my own website where I plan on blogging, sharing, kvetching, and hopefully hearing from you about life on the multi-tasking mom front. See my latest venture: Project You Magazine, all about pursuing your passion and being true to yourself while also juggling motherhood and dirty laundry. For more information on Project You Magazine, please visit www.ProjectYouMagazine.com. I’ve been in publishing for more years than I’d like to confess to (let’s just say it’s a lot), with a variety of parenting, lifestyle, home, food and travel stories in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Daily News, Ladies’ Home Journal, Parents, Parenting, Child, Bride’s, Elegant Bride, Working Mother, Woman’s Day, FamilyLife, Girl’s Life, For Me, Westchester Magazine, InTown: Westchester, Rockland Magazine, Long Island Parents and Child, Endless Vacation, and more. And yes, I use my “real life,” my kids (two girls, now ages l4 and l7), husband and (annoying) dog as the “muse” for my suburban angst and joy. My Bio

I’m just like you.... I like to describe myself as your average, rushing to meet a-deadline/throw-in-aload-of-laundry/ pop-a-frozen-pizza-in-theoven mom. Like most women these days, I often feel like a circus clown juggling a lot of balls in the air…and hoping none of them falls. Life is basically akin to a house of cards. When a kid gets sick, a babysitter doesn’t show up, a carpool falls through, there’s a snow delay at school, I have to work late, or -- eek! -- get sick (not allowed in “momworld”) – the rest of the deck collapses, leaving life as I know it, a huge, frantic scramble. Lucky for me, I’ve always been able to parlay my personal life with my professional experience (think free therapy sessions!). In other words, I’ve talked to lots of parenting experts over the years, life coaches, psychologists and regular moms like you, all of whom have given me strategies to put it all in perspective, and remind me of all I should be thankful for.
