Happy Florida winter or fall as we call it in the Midwest! Wow! What a year it has been. I am excited to be here and winding down the year with such an awesome group of individuals who all share in the dedication to do what is right for our members, our community, and each other. It has been a whirlwind of changes as we truly begin to Drive Forward Momentum. Our internal operations, the look/ feel of our sales and service centers, our internal systems, and so much more will all continue to be under a microscope for dissection as we reinvest to keep SCCU happy and healthy for the next 90 years. As your Chief Operating Officer, I oversee the functions of our retail network, call center, facilities, and mortgage lending. I assure you these areas keep me busy

day in and day out! Your executive team is hard at work on budgeting for 2022. We hope to share with you all what we are working on for 2022 and 2023 in a few short months. I’d like to thank each of you for the ideas, issues, and member feedback you all have provided. Hearing and understanding the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to our operations

will undoubtedly position us to make the changes necessary to create a member experience for our members that is second to none. Your feedback has directly impacted our strategic direction, our project focus, and our operational structure. Keep the ideas and feedback coming please! Lastly, as the new guy, the vast majority have

welcomed me as a new citizen to the Midwest. Sharing the do’s and do not’s of the area, warning me when necessary, and sharing all the awesome things to do in the greater Wisconsin and Minnesota area. Thank you all for being so welcoming to me and embracing the changes as we reposition the credit union for years of continued growth, success, and stability.

GET TO KNOW SHANE

WHY DID YOU COME TO SCCU? The potential…this credit union has a ton of opportunity, room for growth, the ability to exceed member expectations, and a desire to do what’s right. All of that is a recipe for success. Our employees are so willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, smile, and keep moving. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK? This may be an unpopular opinion….Decision Points by George W. Bush. This is my most recent and really provided some perspective into the aftermath of 9/11 and the decision making process. I am a history buff so I read pretty much anything I can from a historical figure or perspective. WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL MOTTO? Make it happen…my first boss at my previous credit union when I was 18 always told me “just make it happen.” This has stuck with me ever since. The answer can’t be no or at least shouldn’t be at first. My first instinct is always let’s make it happen. Doesn’t always work though! Haha!

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM? This is definitely an unpopular opinion….Tampa! Rays, Lightning, and Bucs (Sorry Green Bay). Born and raised just north of Tampa so I spent lots of time at those stadiums with my dad and now my kids. If it helps…my second favorite baseball team is Milwaukee. WHAT IS THE WEIRDEST THING ABOUT THE TWIN PORTS? I guess if I had to choose, the oddity for me would be the bars with no food…statistically speaking you make far more money if you offer a food menu. Superior has so many bars that don’t offer food. However, seems like a great opportunity for a SCCU Pub Crawl! WHAT TEMPERATURE DO YOU CONSIDER COLD? 50 Degrees or below…I know that’s going to get a lot of eye rolls but my body just has not adjusted yet. I am gearing up for fall and winter, mentally preparing for what is to come. IF YOU HAD A YACHT, WHAT WOULD YOU NAME IT? Sea Biscuit…I love the ocean and who doesn’t like a biscuit!

HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE INDUSTRY? I have been in the credit union industry for 15 years. I have worked my entire career, since I was 18, in the industry.

No rivalry in the midwest is bigger than the Vikings vs. Packers. We thought, why not have fun with it! On November 19th, we invite you to choose a side to rep. Don’t worry, we know the game is more than football. It’s an experience! So we are going to do a potluck style “dip day”. Start thinking of your favorite dip to make and share with your branch. Don’t forget the chips! We will be sharing more information about this day in the November edition of the SCCU Insider but we wanted to give a little sneak peek of what’s to come.

On October 11th, we gathered all our employees at Earth Rider festival grounds for a fun-filled day where we launched our new company core values. We started with live music and lunch, followed by a magician, and the unveiling of the core values. We ended the day with some friendly competition; SCCU trivia. Employees got new t-shirts and tree boxes to remind them daily of the growth we will experience through the use of these core values. We will use these core values: Dare to Care, Drive Forward Momentum, Be Accountable, Hit Heavy Stay Humble, to drive our decision making and priorities moving forward. We can’t wait to see the work you do with them in mind!

MEET COMMERCIAL Eric Anderson, Commerical Loan Officer, gives us the inside scoop on the business side of SCCU. How long have you been with SCCU? Since April 1st. I worked here Dec. 2018 to Dec. 2019 as well. Do you have any recent accomplishments? Completed CUNA Mutual Commercial Lending School Level 2 – Credit Administration this summer Who’s on your team? Scott Fredrickson, Melissa Thome, Alyssa Stone, Keith Thorson Give us a broad overview of your job. As a Commercial Loan Officer, I am responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of business loan relationships. My primary duties involve originating and closing new loans and serving as the member’s primary contact with SCCU.

Table of Contents

How would you describe your job to a 5 year old? I borrow money to members to help them run their business and make more money! What does a typical work day look like for you? Every day is a little different which is why I love it! I spend quite a bit of the time in the office and I also get to spend time out and about visiting members in the community.

14

What’s something people don’t know about your department/job? A big piece of our business is investment real estate, people who own rental properties. How does the position benefit members? Employees? What’s its purpose? We benefit our members by giving them an alternative to large banks for their business lending needs. Offering Commercial Lending benefits everyone at SCCU because it greatly enhances our opportunities for loan and deposit growth compared to a credit union or bank that does not offer commercial lending. Our business members also use our consumer products as well ultimately leading to more jobs and opportunities throughout the Credit Union for the employees. The purpose of commercial lending is to help our members grow their business. We only borrow them money if the loan should help them make more money and that is a good thing! What is your favorite aspect of your job? I like working with business owners, they have a different type of energy and it is fun to be a part of; they tend to be very passionate about their work which makes it enjoyable to work with them.

You did check the weather before moving here from Tampa, right? How would you spend $1 million in 24 hr? On real estate so it keeps making more money! What two things, aside from food and water, would you want on a deserted island? Golf club and a ball What would you name a pet giraffe? There will be no giraffes in my house.
