The marketing team is ramping up their event engagement by organizing and planning multiple events at once. See what events we’ve recently had and what events we have coming up!
Hops & Homes

Our Hops and Homes event on April 30th was a smashing success! We set up stations at local breweries in Ashland, Duluth, Grand Rapids, Ladysmith, and Superior. We gave back to those in our service communities by paying it forward and passing out free beer. This was a great opportunity to converse with community members, give back, and even share our current promotions. We passed out 373 promotional fliers and free beers. To cap it off we designed coasters for drinkers to use that would send them to a link for the chance to win $100 to their local brewery. We love finding new and creative ways to let our communities know that we care and that we are there to help.

Homebuying 101
This is the perfect opportunity for first time home buyers to learn everything they need on homebuying. Mortgage originators will go over everything from how to increase your credit score, how a credit score is calculated, down payment options, how to deal with preexisting debt, and MORE! Make sure to let people know when your branch will be hosting this event. There will be cookies, soda, and TONS of knowledge to absorb.

Realtor Mixer
Beer, snacks, and good conversations. These realtor mixers allow our Mortgage team and realtors to mix and mingle and have some shop talk. The goal of these events is to build strong relationships in the hopes that realtors recommend SCCU to their clients. We used our April Mixers as a learning opportunity to redesign how to we run and frame the mixers coming up in May. We are thankful for local realtors who work with us and look forward to expressing our gratitude and serving their needs in the future. We will be consolidating all May mixers into one since most realtors seem to work in multiple of our service areas with homes in the Twin Ports. More details coming soon!

How does your position benefit Members? Employees? What’s its purpose? I would say my position benefits members by showing them that no one is too high up the chain of command to help a member. I would also say that having an assistant manager look at account transactions makes the members feel like they are being listened to. My position benefits employees by allowing them to come to me for a check approval, an account override or any other issue that needs to be taken to a manager. They now have both Shannon and myself to reach out to. What’s the coolest thing you are working on right now? I would say it’s the Lifehouse Community Outreach. I didn’t have the white picket fence backyard pool growing up and I want to help today’s youth know that with the right motivation and help they too can be successful and that they aren’t forgotten about. What is your favorite aspect of your job? Favorite aspect would be the smile on the members faces after I help them book a loan for their new car or toy. Or the elderly members that need today’s economic language decoded for them. Helping people fills my soul with joy.

This policy allows multiple employees to donate a combined maximum of 4 weeks accrued vacation time to an employee when the receiving employee needs time off that is not otherwise covered by any other time off benefit.

With a 25 to 48 vote on celebrating Star Wars Day or Cinco de Mayo, Cinco De Mayo was the clear winner. Celebrations will include walking tacos, candy, and pinatas. Make sure to sign up for your locations potluck lunch.

As a credit union, we reinvest our earnings back into the communities we serve. Each month we will feature a different non-profit organization, nominated by our members and employees, by awarding donations and celebrating the hard work they do. At the end of 2022, we will vote for 3 of the 11 non-profits and award the winners with a larger additional donation up to $10,000.
Gilman is Moving!
Our Gilman Branch has a big move coming up this month! They are moving all the way…… across the street. This move will give our members a better building to visit and it will include all of our new branding. It might be a shock to Gilman, WI but we will definitely make our mark! The grand opening of this location will be celebrated during Gilman’s June Dairy Days over Father’s Day weekend, more information to come in the next couple weeks. The current branch closes May 18th and the new location will open May 23rd.
