Charity Golf Day Raises $17,200 to Support Bereaved Families

Children in heaven ensured a charity golf day at Keperra Golf Club last month was a ‘hole in one’ success for a Queensland support group that parents and families hope they never need. The event took place in support of The Compassionate Friends Queensland (TCFQ) - a dedicated charity to the support, care and comfort of parents, siblings and grandparents following the death of a child from any cause at any age. The group offers a haven of understanding, care, and comfort during times of profound grief.

Hosted in partnership with sponsor Rhino Finance, the golf day that showcased a heartwarming display of community solidarity, raised an impressive $17,200 for the cause. The golf day drew substantial support from both the community and sporting heroes. Queensland State of Origin legends Scott Sattler, David Shillington, and Greg Conescu lent their star power to the cause. Sattler's swings added to the excitement on the greens, while Conescu and Shillington engaged in a spirited question-and-answer session during the lunch break.

Peter and Erin Hobson's personal connection to TCFQ underscores the group's profound impact. The couple, who lost their youngest son Brendan in a motorcycle accident overseas at the age of 19 in 2016, have not only benefited from TCFQ's services but have also become dedicated volunteers. Peter emphasized the significance of finding support from others who have walked a similar path, stating, ‘The support and friendship of other bereaved parents helped us to find hope and strength after Brendan died.’

Peter, who is also President of TCFQ, expressed his gratitude

for the overwhelming success of the event. ‘The money raised is used by TCFQ to provide support services to bereaved parents, including a range of seminars and interactive workshops,’ he said. These initiatives offer a lifeline to parents navigating the challenging journey of healing after the loss of a child.

TCFQ, which began its mission in 1985, has since assisted over 3000 parents and boasts nearly 400 active members. The group's regular meetings provide a safe haven for bereaved families to find solace, understanding, and a listening ear. For those seeking more information about TCFQ and its support services for bereaved families in Queensland, visit their website at www.compassionatefriendsqld.org.au

The charity golf day's triumph stands as a testament to the power of community, compassion, and unity in the face of heartache.

Big Effort for Small Steps

A massive congratulations to the local running group, Run with Rob (RWR), who took out the ‘2023 Largest Team’ trophy at the Sunshine Coast Marathon last month for the second year in a row.

This local running family has grown exponentially over the last few years. In 2021, they had a handful of runners participating, then in 2022 took out the largest team trophy with 149 runners! Now in 2023 an incredible 152 took part in the festivities with runners participating across a distances.

The RWR community mission is to not only foster an all inclusive running group that welcomes all abilities but to raise funds for charity through their running initiatives. Last year the group raised a mammoth $12,000 for the Small Steps for Hannah Foundation. This year, the team topped that with over $20,000 raised.

Kevin Couch—The Smiling Face of our Community

have also turned to organising morning teas and festive barbeques for the neighbourhood. The first one was held in the park, coming out of COVID, with around 70 people showing up. Now, due to their ever-growing popularity amongst the community, Kevin holds these events every 3-4 months, often on public holidays like the Queen’s Birthday and Christmas. With the help of his son, Kevin gets out the blower to tidy up the space, then lays out tables, paints signs of advertisement to hang in trees, drops flyers in letterboxes, and local kids write in chalk on pathways promoting the morning tea. On the day, people tend to bring their own chairs to come chitter chatter for a couple hour, usually in accompaniment with music playing, snacks and refreshments, dogs, kids, and plenty of laughter. Recently, a special morning tea was held for Kevin’s 90th birthday, to which around 150 locals attended to celebrate him and all the joy he’d brought to their community.

This August, signs were unveiled to crown a section of pathway in Cowrie Pde Park, Albany Creek, renaming it in dedication to one charming resident, Kevin Couch.

Echo News Brisbane recently caught up with the man, the myth, the legend himself, accompanied by Kevin’s good friend Malcom Triplow, who helped the 90-year-old resident down to meet us. Despite his mature age, Kevin was switched on, bright-eyed and bushytailed, and eager to tell his story!

Kevin shared that it is through walking the local pathways that he has established a life-altering connection with his local community and turned them into one big family. In agreeance, Malcom told us, “It is not geographically where he walks, but the way he walks.” Indeed, Kevin’s routine involves going on walks 1-3 times daily to get out in the fresh air and befriend the neighbours he passes. Now, it has reached the point where Kevin knows everyone he walks by, and everyone knows him. Even during our interview in Cowrie Parade Park, cars were tooting their hellos while passersby waved and stopped to ask how he was doing—it felt like being in the presence of a celebrity!

To meet and greet as many of his neighbours as possible, Kevin aims to walk at different times of the day; he recognises the 6am walkers, the 7-8am walkers, and the after-9am walkers. On quite a heartwarming note, Kevin carries a writing pad

in his zimmer frame about the people he sees regularly. As there are so many faces and stories to remember, Kevin began keeping notes of peoples’ names, life situations, illnesses, etc.

Kevin’s daily strolls through Albany Creek began during COVID lockdowns as a way of returning cheer and connectedness to the quiet streets. While he still embarks on these walks, Kevin’s efforts

As well, in January, Kevin received a Moreton Bay Australia Day Community Spirit Award for his voluntary role in organising community events and fostering a sense of connectedness in the suburb. Moreton Bay Regional Council voted unanimously to rename Kevin’s usual park route “Kevin’s Way”, and to mount a board describing Kevin’s connection to the space.

Proud as punch, Kevin’s gratitude is etched all over his face— as you can see in the accompanying photo. Kevin’s wife jests, “If Kevin had it’s Way, he’d always get his way!”

Dakabin Now Host To New Local Wildlife Hospital

Since becoming a fully endorsed charity with land secured to build the region’s first wildlife hospital, Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation’s mission to improve outcomes for native wildlife is succeeding. In late July, Moreton Bay Regional Council announced that the hospital’s new home will be 420 Old Gympie Road, Dakabin. The City of Moreton Bay is one of the most rapidly populating cities in Australia, with 200,000 new residents expected to join us in the next two decades. With such growth comes increased urbanisation and thus an increased displacement of local wildlife. To make matters more dicey, injured and sick animals must be transported hours out of Brisbane to Beerwah, or Wacol, for instance, to seek specialised treatment. This delay can lead to extended trauma and less happy endings for animals in need.

However, Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation’s dedicated committee is working harder than ever to make wonders for wildlife through fundraising, advocacy, research, education, and establishing an ongoing operation of a native wildlife hospital. Five founding volunteer directors comprise the committee; Christine West, Ngaire Stirling, Karin Machell, Rebecca Russell, and Beth Rounsefell. Together, these devoted ladies have ensured native wildlife will have a local source of accessible treatment by highly skilled veterinary professionals. They explain to Echo News, ‘Watching the impacts of development first-hand has led us all to this moment. Realising we cannot stop development, we cannot change the planning laws, we looked to see what we could do to make a positive impact on the wildlife in the City of Moreton Bay.’

Primarily, the hospital’s function is emergency veterinary care. It will be set up as a triage clinic; once the animal is stabilised, it can be sent either to a carer for rehabilitation or onto Australia Zoo/RSPCA for specialised care and surgery if required. The approximately 14, 000 square-metred space will accommodate for a hospital building, outdoor enclosures, food preparation area, and parking. The hospital site is surrounded by core koala habitat of approximately 134, 500 square metres. The hospital location is very accessible via the local road network, a must for ensuring that animal can reach the hospital quickly.

The Eatons Echo delivers 14,500 copies per month of what matters to the local area. Our magazine is 100% locally owned and operated, which means we don’t just talk about being local, WE ARE LOCAL; we live it everyday. Get in touch with us at admin@echo-news.com.au

Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation’s committee

Christine West, Ngaire Stirling, Karin Machell, Rebecca Russell, and Beth Rounsefell

The team at Moreton Bay Wildlife Hospital Foundation are currently focused on establishing the hospital in our region, as well as building brand awareness to attract interest, raising necessary funds, appointing a reputable operator of the hospital, overseeing the design and build of the project, and establishing local partnerships. Once the hospital is operational, subsequent goals are focussed on continuing fundraising and networking to allow for ongoing operation and advocacy for wildlife in the Moreton Bay Region.

On behalf of Echo News, as well as the people—and the little critters—of our region, a huge thanks is issued to all those involved in the development of this hospital. The positive impact of your efforts will be mammoth.

Country Music for the Community

Reaching 50 years old for any community-orientated club is no mean feat, however the Northern Suburbs Country Music Club is fast approaching this impressive milestone.

While the title of the club suggests a club in the Northern Suburbs, many of their members live in the Moreton Bay, all of whom they welcome with open arms into their fold. While the club is essentially a country music performing club, the music is not restricted to country. Singers and instrument players are always welcome and there is a backing band for non instrumentalists. Practice nights are held at the Lawnton Tavern every Wednesday night from 6 pm and a monthly social is held at the Bald Hills Memorial Hall on the 3rd Saturday of each month commencing at noon. Non-singers and nonmembers are welcome to come along and enjoy an afternoon of country music performed by locals. For more information or for details on how to get involved, call Jim on 0401 178 087

Is Collagen Worth the Hype?

As an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist, I am often asked about the health benefits of collagen supplementation. Here are the facts about collagen so you can decide whether it’s right for you.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. It can be thought of as the glue that holds us together because it is the main component of connective tissues such as skin, bone, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. It is made in our bodies when the protein we eat is broken down into amino acids.

As we get older, collagen production decreases and results in reduced elasticity in our skin, evidenced by fine lines and wrinkles, as well as changes to the way our bodies move, such as reduced flexibility and range of motion in our joints. UV exposure and stress can also slow down the production of collagen in our bodies. Unfortunately, the first five years of menopause can see a 30 per cent decline in skin collagen and it continues to decline by around 2 per cent each subsequent year.

Collagen is found in the connective tissue of animals, therefore dietary sources are foods like red meat, chicken, and seafood. However, our bodies also require vitamin C, zinc and copper to make collagen, so eating foods such as citrus, dairy, legumes, wholegrains, avocado, eggs and leafy greens are beneficial to boost your collagen production. This means a having balanced diet including all the major food groups is a great way to support your body to make collagen. There’s a growing body of research into collagen supplementation which shows it can be beneficial for improving joint functionality and reducing joint pain(1). Other studies have shown hydrolysed collagen supplementation can have favourable results compared to a placebo in terms of skin hydration, elasticity, and hydration after 3 months (Ref 2 below).

Common collagen supplements are from bovine and marine sources. Vegetarian collagen supplements may contain ingredients that support your body’s own production of collagen. The most important thing to keep in mind is that there’s no point taking collagen or other supplements if you aren’t eating a healthy balanced diet to begin with. In summary, the good news is, there’s no harm in collagen supplementation if it fits within your budget. However, it can take up to 12 weeks before you notice any changes, so don’t expect overnight results.

"I never want to be held back by my age. I believe that age is just a number, and with the right mindset, you can achieve anything," said Bob, who has been an advocate for active aging and a source of inspiration for many seniors looking to maintain their health and independence.

Bob has been attending Everton Hills Clinic Total Exercise Physiology since 2021. Where he actively participated in a program from Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) called Exercise Right for Active Ageing. Active aging is a concept that emphasises the importance of engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining social connections, and pursuing lifelong learning to promote well-being in older adults. By showcasing Bob's incredible journey, the team at Total Exercise Physiology aim to shed light on the benefits of staying active and the limitless potential of individuals, regardless of their age.

As an organisation committed to supporting seniors in living their best lives, they recognize the significance of Bob's achievement. It serves as a reminder that age should never be a barrier to setting and surpassing personal goals.

Total Exercise Physiology warmly invite the media, community members, and fitness enthusiasts to join them in celebrating Bob's success and 80th Birthday, at Total Exercise Physiology Clinic 1-5 Queens Road, Everton Hills on 20 September 2023 at 9am. Bob will be sharing his journey, offering insights into his training routine, and inspiring others to embrace active aging as a way to enrich their lives.

Award Winning Physio Delivering Innovative Healthcare to Brisbane's Northside

Husband and wife team, Sam Bhojwani and Yamini Kapoor are the proud directors of IntegratePHYSIO, an award-winning physiotherapy business that is delivering innovative healthcare solutions on Brisbane’s northside. IntegratePHYSIO, launched in 2017, is a musculoskeletal and sports injury outpatient service with clinics at Warner, Narangba and North Lakes and 18 dedicated employees. The business is also successfully growing its mobile service, Physio on Wheels and bringing allied health care to people in their own homes. Physio on Wheels has grown by over 300 percent in the past six months by delivering high-quality care at a fraction of the cost, competing against larger participants in the NDIS allied health.

The entire IntegratePHYSIO business has grown by up to 400% in terms of revenue and staff. This growth has supported Yamini’s passion to create a focused Women’s Health Physiotherapy for her patients and team. With only a small selection of clinics offering women’s specialised services on Brisbane’s northside, many travel to the city and wait up to six months before seeing a consultant, which is also a very expensive experience. This long-awaited addition to IntegratePHYSIO provides a valuable service for women, including pelvic examinations, pre-and post-natal physiotherapy, and treatment for bladder issues and mastitis.

Yamini and Sam acknowledge their success is because of their exceptional and growing team, plus their focus on mentoring and professional development of their staff. This has allowed the expansion of their services they provide to include women’s health, hydrotherapy and exercise physiology.

IntegratePHYSIO’s team collectively has about 80 years of clinical experience and helped more than 25,000 clients. They now see 400-500 clients a week, including their community clients.

Sam and Yamini’s passion to grow a business that provides high quality customer service and care, that is evidencebased and cost-effective delivered a complete surprise for them both when not only did they win the Moreton Daily Award for Customer Service Excellence at the Moreton Bay Business & Innovation Awards in July, but they also took home the 2023 Moreton Bay Business of the Year award. “It was very unexpected, we were excited just to win the customer service category,” Sam says. “It was all a huge surprise.”

We provide the following services:

• Physiotherapy

• Women’s health physiotherapy

• Physio on Wheels

• Manual therapy

• Hydrotherapy

• Exercise physiology

Step into Spring!

You can run a 5k but running up a couple of flights of stairs tires you out? You can squat heavy and lunge with weights, yet walking up a couple of flights of steps makes it feel like a whole other workout?

Here’s a workout that can actually challenge your body, endurance and actual strength and stamina.

Climbing stairs is one of the best exercises when it comes to pure FAT BURN, strengthening the lower body, toning the butt, thighs, calves, losing inches from those love handles and belly and building great abs. Along with these benefits is the immense good it does for your lungs and cardio vascular system. You can burn more calories walking/running up steps in 30 minutes than a 1 hour run or walk, plus it challenges your body.

Start off with a couple of flights, walk and run slowly. As you get better, run and then skip 2 steps at a time and run or walk. Plus, we have found the perfect local steps to get stair climbing on - the Nulty Way Stairs! Located opposite the Arana Hills Library on Cobbity Crescent, these stairs at are somewhat of an institution, with many locals using the staircase nestled amongst the eucalypts, as part of their exercise routines or to get to and from Cobbity Crescent and Plucks Road.

After 37 years of service, the 75 metres of staircase is receiving a face lift to bring it up to speed with modern infrastructure standards. Improvements include new pedestrian stairs, landings and handrails, making the staircase safer and more accessible for locals to enjoy even more. So what are you waiting for? It’s The Little Things In Life That Count

The little things in life count a lot when you see the results they bring to others.

This month, has been a busy time for the Ridley Road men as they continue to make various items in support of the Berghofer Cancer Appeal and Hummingbird House. Both these organisations benefit from their donations of toys to assist in the fundraising Cent Auctions.

An update from the Ridley Road Community Men’s Shed water systems came into use in the mid 1960’s and these trolleys were used to carry the clothes out to the washing lines, now a Hills Hoist. Today these replica trolleys can still be used this way, but they can also be a Plant Pot Holder on your patio.

Two new items that have been created this year include the ‘Pot Plant Dogs’ and a replica of ‘Mum's Washing Trolley’. The Pot Plant Dogs are designed to serve as a reminder to many of their faithful four-legged companions offering a memory of the pet with a very life-like dog-inspired plant holder. These come in four breeds and are very sturdy holding two plant pots.

The new ‘Mum’s Washing Holder’ is inspired from the days when washing took place two or three times a week with mum toiling over a boiler in the backyard. The boiling hot wet clothes were transported by a wooden Wash Trolley to the cement tubs

under the house to be rinsed in Ricketts Blue water and then wrung through the wringer attached to the tubs. Poor Mum! Every household had one, and they played a major role on wash days. Thankfully, washing machines and hot

The Men thoroughly enjoyed making these items and recalled many tales about their dogs and washing days as they made them. Many recall the boiler stick as a ready means of punishment for any misbehavior on washing days.

Both these items are available from our Men's Shed on Ridley Road. They are made from recycled materials which you would never recognise and handcrafted by men who are enjoying their retirement.

So, please help the Ridley Road men help support Berghofer and Hummingbird house in this small way. It is a very important role in their community support.

The Ridley Road Men’s Shed is open on a Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday morning, where you can see the items being made and possibly purchase one.

Rotary Celebrates Through Giving

The Aspley Rotary Club wrapped up the 2023 Rotary year with a special evening dinner event where muchneeded funds were distributed to the community.

Rotary (and similair organisations) have become the bridge between hope and desperation for many within our society, often missed in terms of support and a helping hand.

Presentations took place at this special evening and over $20,000 was handed over to six beneficiaries . Also, the dinner would include and recognise a number of partnering and compassionate organisations who regularly support their quest to provide much needed and appreciated assistance.

The list of recipients included the Kids in the Kitchen programme run by the Salvation Army, Angel Flight, Chermside Anglican Parish Pantry, The Breakfast Club Redcliffe, Young Care, and a top up for the Glen Kinross Scholarship at the University Sunshine Coast at Petrie initiated by the club.

The evening also highlighted the invaluable help and synergy received when compassionate local business’s help provide a far greater bang for the buck in their ability to servicing these needs. Never one to seek recognition, their contributions continue more often in the back rooms of the work we do and largely goes unacknowledged.

The Rotary Club of Aspley would like to thank Harvey Norman Aspley, Hornets Football Club, Hart Sport, Millers Hardware Mitre 10 and Ray White Aspley for their past and ongoing support which considerably improves our ability to provide continuing community service.

Lions Celebrate their Four-Legged Livesavers

An update from the Albany Creek Lions Club

Last month, the Albany Creek Lions Club were lucky enough to receive an update on what our Lions Hearing Dog Program is up to.

This programme is now branching into medical dogs, so whilst hearing dogs assist the hearing impaired, the medical dogs will be trained to assist anyone suffering with Type 1 Diabetes. It is amazing what you can train these dogs to do, from alerting someone else in the house of an emergency to bringing lifesaving kits to the person in danger.

The Lions Hearing Dogs are based in South Australia, however they train and send assistance dogs all over Australia, even here to Albany Creek. This is just one of the many wonderful programmes that Lions have that clubs can get involved with. If you know of anyone that could benefit from an assistance dog, please do contact the Albany Creek Lions Club and they will see what can be done. Obviously, there are people out there already listed but that should not stop you from contacting the Lions.

If you would like to get involved with helping people within your community by being part of the Albany Creek Lions Club, get in touch! We meet the first and third Wednesdays of the month. The first is the Business Meeting at the Albany Creek Library and the third is the Dinner/Social Meeting where we meet at Hornets Football Club. We try to organise interesting guest speakers at this meeting as well as a little fun. We hope you remember that the Lions are here to help if you need a hand, so keep that in mind and get in touch, call 0477 212 242 or email lion.kayesmith@bigpond.com

HOG Springs into Action

An update from the Hills Organic Garden

We have had a rather mild winter this year hence we have been able to take produce home with us much earlier than normal. The warmer weather has matured our plants much more quickly than last year and produced some very nice vegetables. Our cabbages have been delicious. Our beans and peas are fresh and crunchy, and we have had some lovely bunches of bananas.

Our members have been turning up each Sunday enthusiastic and ready to work and look forward to filling their baskets with fresh produce from the garden.

We are still planting snow peas and lettuce as well as beans as we feel we will get another crop before the hot weather is upon us. This year our snow peas were being eaten by some predator which we have not experienced in previous years. If anyone has some knowledge of what this might be could you kindly let us know. We could not find any trace of a grub on the affected produce.

Our beetroots have been eaten by some unwelcomed visitor – perhaps a rat or bandicoot?? as have some of our cabbages. Silverbeet is flourishing and is so fresh and tender. Our strawberries are just starting to produce fruit. We have had to cover the strawberries as our resident magpie was taking bites out of the fruit. A scrub turkey has also made its presence felt at the garden. Not really a welcome visitor as they can be quite destructive.

Spring is just around the corner and hopefully we have a couple of months of pleasant weather for gardening before the heat of summer sets in. Our flowering basil is still attracting the bees and we should be able to harvest some seeds when the plant dries. Our parsley is also looking very healthy.

The HOG community is a friendly group who offer people in the Hills District the opportunity to grow vegetables using organic principles. Age is no barrier so feel free to come along one Sunday afternoon to have a chat and a look around our beautiful garden. Members meet on a Sunday afternoon from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. As well, they also attend the garden through the week to water and do general maintenance.

You will find us at 416 Bunya Road, Bunya next to the Off Leash Dog Park. Membership Fees per year are $20 for adults, $30 for family and $10 for Juniors. Visit www.hog. org.au, search The Hills Organic Garden on Facebook or phone 0415 856 532 for information. We look forward to meeting you.

Fertilise for a Fruitful Garden

An update from the Mitchelton and Districts Garden Club

Spring has sprung and the time has come to fertilise. Most garden plants will be putting on new growth in the coming months which means their need for nutrients and water will increase dramatically. As growth begins to step up, fertilise and mulch the garden generally. Be sure to use a low-phosphorus fertiliser for sensitive natives such as grevilleas and banksias and keep water up to actively growing plants.

Last month, the Mitchelton and Districts Garden Club convened on August 3rd, when green thumbs and plant enthusiasts were treated to an enlightening session on the art of brewing herbal teas. The morning featured guest speaker, Rose Graham, a renowned herbalist from the Queensland Herb Society Inc., who shared her wealth of knowledge about the benefits and flavours of herbal teas. The meeting kicked off with a warm welcome from the club’s president, Trish Parkinson, who expressed her delight at the turnout and the opportunity to learn from an expert like Rose Graham. Rose, with her years of experience in herbalism and a passion for all things botanical, captivated the audience with her informative and engaging presentation. She began by introducing the concept of herbal teas and emphasized their natural origins and potential health benefits. The attendees were treated to a fascinating journey through various herbs and plants that can be used to create flavourful and therapeutic infusions. Two brews shared on the day were: rosemary, cinnamon and lemon myrtle; and parsley, mint and ginger – both so enlivening and delicious!

The September meeting of the Ferny Grove Garden Club will be on Friday, 29th September, at 1 pm. The club meets in St Matthew’s Church Hall, Church Road, Mitchelton. At the September meeting the group are looking forward to a helpful talk from Bunnings horticulturists on the use of mulches and composts in the garden. For more information please telephone Elizabeth 07 3851 0568.

Our September meeting will be focussed on Plant and Tree Health. John Daly is our guest speaker for the month, and he will be sharing his invaluable knowledge and advice on how best to prevent or treat disease, while promoting the robust health of our gardens.

Go get ‘em, gardeners!

The club meets at The Enoggera Memorial Hall at 9:30am for a 10:00am start. Entry is $3 and morning tea is provided. Visitors are most welcome. For more information email at mitcheltongc@gmail.com

Vietnam Veterans’ Day

On 18th August, we commemorate Vietnam Veterans' Day on the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan in 1966. We remember the sacrifices of those who died and say thank you to almost 60,000 Australians who served during the 10 years of our involvement in the Vietnam War.

I was honoured to be invited to lay a wreath at the commemoration service at Gaythorne RSL to pay respect to all who served.

Inflation / Cost of Living

New Consumer Price Index numbers released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics have revealed Queensland recorded the biggest increases in the country last financial year for the big four cost-of-living responsibilities for state governments: Rent (QLD: 8.9% increase), Electricity (QLD: 25.4% increase), Health costs (QLD: 6.7% increase), Insurance (QLD: 17.1% increase)

Housing, electricity, health and insurance premiums are critical responsibilities of the State Government

These are the big bills Queenslanders are now paying due to the systemic service delivery failures of this Government. The Palaszczuk Government’s failure to properly...

1) Increase housing supply has driven up rents.

2) Maintain the State’s power plants like Callide has driven up power prices.

3) Plan and resource the health system over the past decade has driven up health costs.

4) Strengthen laws, created the Queensland Youth Crime Crisis which is now so out of control it’s driven insurance premiums.

Queenslanders deserve a calm and stable government that will bring their household costs down, not push them up.

The Seniors’ Expo was a tremendous success, with close to 2,000 visitors and over 100 stalls. I’d like to thank all the members of the Dickson Seniors’ Council for their tireless work in organising the event and congratulate them on continuing to make the Expo bigger and better each year. I started the Dickson Seniors Expo in 2004 with the help of the Dickson Senior’s Council to support seniors in our local

community. Every year since, I have been proud to host and sponsor the event.

Thank you also to the army of volunteers who make this local event such huge a success. I look forward to seeing you all again at the 2024 Dickson Seniors Expo.

Local Shows

This year’s Dayboro, Samford and Pine Rivers shows were a great success with great weather to match. I hope you enjoyed your visit to one or more of the shows.

Congratulations to all the Show Societies who work tirelessly all year to organise these events.

Educational resources

Once again, my children’s charts were popular at the recent shows and festivals. I'm particularly excited to mention that our latest addition, the Australia map received an overwhelming response.

Just a reminder that these educational resources to help your youngsters with schoolwork are available free from my electorate office in Strathpine. Contact details below. They include multiplication and alphabet charts, growth charts and of course the Australia map.

Australian National Flag Day

Australian National Flag Day took place on Sunday 3 September 2022, marking 122 years since the Australian flag was first flown in 1901 at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne. Australian National Flag Day has been officially celebrated every year since 1996, following a proclamation by the Governor-General.

Our flag inspires love of country, gratitude to our forebears, loyalty to our nation, and dedication to its future when it matters most.
