State-of-the-art BMX track off and racing in Brendale

BMX'ers can rejoice with the official opening of one of the best BMX racing tracks in Australia at Nolan Park, Brendale, taking place last month.

Mayor Peter Flannery attended the official opening at the new track and clubhouse for the Pine Rivers BMX Club. Other delegates in attendance were Pine Rivers MP Nikki Boyd, and councillors Cath Tonks (Div 9) and Cr Mick Gillam (Div 8) alongside 217 riders also taking part in the opening.

This new facility and clubhouse has been delivered to a standard capable of hosting national-level events and competitions. With BMX racing rapidly growing in popularity in Australia and specifically Moreton Bay since it was introduced to the Beijing Olympics in 2008, this track is certain to be a focal point ahead of the 2032 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

The $5.8 million project is a joint venture between the State Government and Moreton Bay Regional Council, with the State Government contributing $1.95 million as part of the Queensland Government’s Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package to help Queensland communities bounce back from COVID.

Pine Rivers BMX Club have experienced a considerable influx of riders over the past few years, and the talent shown by the youngsters is quite considerable as Mayor Peter Flannery explains.

‘Pine Rivers BMX Club have been at the forefront of that popularity surge by producing a number of junior world champions and providing an outlet for kids to enjoy themselves,’ he said.

This new track now complements the work that has been

carried out down the road at the South Pine Sports Complex. The complex is now set to be one of Queensland’s largest multisport facilities with roughly 6,000 sports club members playing over 20 different sports at the site.

*Please note: Residents are required to be a Pine Rivers BMX Club member to use the track at Nolan Park.

Racing Round The Tracks

A race report from the North Brisbane Mountain Bike Club

With the hotter days easing, the Mountain Trail Bike (MTB) racing season is under way. The North Brisbane MTB Club has representatives racing in many disciplines including Downhill, Gravity Enduro and Cross Country.

Downhill Report

Pickleball Promises Plenty of Fun

Tom Stutz, who brought home the gold medal in u15 Downhill race at Cairns for Crankworx

The first round of the Boomerang Farm Down Hill Series was run on the 30th April with a record turnout of 206 riders from all over the state, including 3 riders from the North Brisbane Dirt Dogs. Tom Stutz in U15, Allick Tierney in U17 and Craig Collins in over 50’s age group. The course was fast and challenging with large drops, big gap jumps and ruthless rock gardens. Practice was very tricky due to overnight rain making some of the sections very slippery with a few riders coming to grief, thankfully nobody was seriously hurt. The course was running very well by the time race runs were called. Craig was riding smooth and finished 11th. Tom pushed hard and came away with

5th out of 30 riders. Allick scorched his way down the track finishing 2nd out of a huge 50 rider field. With the racing season in full swing a few club riders made the journey to Cairns for Crankworx where Tom Stutz brought home the gold medal in u15 Downhill!

Gravity Enduro Report

The second Round of the Rocky Trails Fox Superflow was held at Toowoomba on some very technical and rocky trails, it saw ten club members compete in various categories. Allick Tierney, Ben Malatzky and Julieanne White secured podium positions in their categories, whilst Craig Collins and Rohan Coyle worked hard to finish in the top 10 for their categories. Special thank you goes out to the Ditchburn Family who put in a massive effort on the day, setting up and packing up the clubs tent and pit area, in addition to the full day of racing.

Cross Country

The club had 10 riders competing in the Sunshine Coast MTB festival hosted by local company in2adventure. This event hosted at Ewen Maddock Dam is an excellent introduction to Cross country racing and adventure triathlon for riders of all ages skills and ability. The club had three members finish on the podium in their categories for the 29km MTB race. Ben Malatzky, 3rd in 30-39, Paul Beer, 2nd in 50-59 and Svic Walter 2nd in 60+.

Local Gymnasts Win Gold on the Gold Coast

The Australian Gymnastics Championships has returned to the Gold Coast from 10th-25th May, 2023. This year, seven local competitors have joined the fray, representing both Queensland and the Albany Creek Gymnastics Club.

For the past three years, the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre has hosted the Championships, with more than 1300 Australian and New Zealander athletes competing for titles. For the past three years, gymnasts from ACGC have earned positions amongst the competitive cohort.

In order to represent Queensland at such a prestigious level, it takes years of hard yakka and honing skill, with the required qualification being gymnasts at level 7-10 ability. Th gymnasts must train for 8-15 years and between 13-20 hours a week to accomplish such a feat. Their Head Coach reveals, ‘It is a huge achievement to get selected on the Queensland Team. A maximum of 8 guys per level are selected, so you are fighting a lot of people for those spots. For these guys, this is their premier event. This is what they have been training toward for years.’

2023 has seen the largest cohort of ACGC gymnasts being selected for representation, with 7 boys in total making the cut. This includes Oska Middleton and Nathan Levey (Level 10 Queensland Team), Nicholas Koops (Level 10 Individual), Carter Blair (Level 9 Individual), Harrison Boyd and Dylan Willis (Level 8

From Albany Creek To Australian A Team

Queensland Team), James Wraight (Level 7 Queensland Team). For many of these young athletes, winning a medal at Nationals is the goal they have always trained to achieve—and it is achievable. Multiple individual apparatus and team medals have been earned by ACGC gymnasts at these Championships in the past. Often, opportunities arise for performers to be selected onto Australian teams as well, which is another future goal of the ACGC boys. This year, their focus was just making sure they were practiced and mentally prepared for the competition. Head Coach shares, ‘The stress levels were a little high as they pushed themselves to be prepared as possible. But they couldn’t wait to get out there.’

The stress and dedication paid off in the end, thankfully, with some outstanding results being earned. James won gold with his Level 7 team, whilst Harry and Dylans’ team won gold for Level 8. Dylan also won silver on rings individually, and bronze on pommel. Oska and Nathan won silver within their Level 10 team. Congratulations to all involved in the Australian Gymnastics Championships!

Come and Play Croquet!

Jade, who is an Albany Creek local is one of the club’s premier players in league 1. Arana Ascot could not be prouder of their player as she joined the Australian team that features a selection of Australia’s best emerging women’s hockey talent. The games took place on the 25th and 27th May at MATE Stadium in Adelaide with Australia winning 3-2 in game one and India winning 2-1 in game two. Again well done Jade, the local community and your club are so proud!

Enjoy the fresh air, make new friends, socialise and exercise with the great game of Croquet!

The Pine Rivers Croquet Club is a small friendly club that always welcomes new members. They meet at 17 Deakin Street, Brendale with playing days taking place on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. News from the Den

News from The Lions Club of Albany Creek

The National Lions Convention was held on the Gold Coast last month, where Lions from all over Australia gathered and many of our members attended.

Lions were entertained by exceptional guest speakers and both the ‘Youth of the Year’ and ‘Leo of the Year’ finals took place. These wonderful young people hold us in good stead for the future. The Lions family offer the opportunity for members to meet new friends, to travel far and wide and get involved with young folks. We also love to get involved helping our community where we can in a variety of projects and events. We work closely with Councillors and Community leaders who can assist us in finding local projects and those in our community who might need a hand from time to time.

If you think you would like to be part of our club and help your community along with enjoying our socials throughout the year, please contact either Membership Chairman, Graeme on 0408 374 719 or President Kaye on 0477 212 242 for more information. We would warmly welcome you into our Lions Family.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, the 1st being our Business Meeting at the Albany Creek Library and the 3rd is our dinner/social meeting where we meet at Hornets Football Club. We try to organise interesting guest speakers at this meeting as well as a little fun.

Last month, we learnt so much from our speaker Sandy Johnston, who represented the MBRC Recycling and Waste Management. There was so much we learnt about rubbish (who would have thought?!) and how to dispose of it thoughtfully.

We hope you remember that we are here to help if you need a hand, so please keep that in mind and give us a call.

Creativity at every turn on the Arts Trail

Local art is a prominent feature once again in this year’s Samford and Surrounds Arts Trails. This popular event, organised by Creative Samford Inc., will be held in and around Samford during the first four weekends in June with some studios and art spaces open from Wednesday to Sunday.

Fifty artists, across 20 studios are participating in the trail, with their studios open from 10am to 4pm daily over these four weekends. Visitors will be treated to a wide variety of arts and interesting places to visit, in the beautiful Samford District and surrounds. Featured artists and artisans include painters, sculptors, jewellers, felt makers and textile artists, ceramicists, furniture makers and even a body artist. Artists will open their studios so visitors can learn about their making process, view and purchase the art. This year, studios are open from Samford to Cashmere, Clear Mountain, Yugar and out to Dayboro. Once again, there are a great range of workshops available as part of the Arts Trail, with artists sharing their knowledge and experience in painting, sculpture, ceramics, encaustic painting and textile art. The workshops are outlined in the booklet which will be available at libraries, information centres and a variety of retail outlets.

For the first time this year, the Arts Trail will be running a ‘People’s Choice’ Award. Visitors to the Arts Trail will be encouraged to vote for their favourite artist every time they visit a Studio or Art Space. They will then go in the draw to win that artwork.

The Studio Guide, and photos of the People’s Choice entries, will be available for viewing on the Creative Samford website www.creativesamford.com

A Drive For Independence

Learning to drive is something many of us take for granted, however for the young parents in our community this luxury can simply be too far out of reach.

These days, a single driving lesson costs around $90 and the driving test costs on average $75. So to even apply for a Learner’s licence can be several hundreds of dollars that the young parents simply don’t have when preparing for a baby. This is where Encircle Community Service’s Young Parents Program (YPP) is making a difference. Now in its 35th year, Encircle Community Service’s YPP offers group antenatal education, peer support connections, and referrals to relevant services for pregnant and parenting families from Greater North Brisbane.

According to YPP Senior Practitioner, Talitha Eckermann, the biggest issues for young parents are the cost of living, social isolation, affordable and stable housing, domestic and family violence, and access to adequate, affordable and timely mental health support.

Ms Eckermann said there is an immediate need for financial support to help young parents in the program gain their drivers licence, and is inviting expressions of interest from local businesses and organisations.

‘With cost of living skyrocketing for our young parents, many are navigating public transport to save money, but are struggling with inconvenient timetables and routes to get to their destinations, and the logistics of carrying baby capsules, prams and nappy bags, or being heavily pregnant across multiple modes of transport,’ she said.

‘Our young parents want and need the independence that comes with the ability to drive to hospitals, appointments, mothers’ groups, child health appointments, employment, study and other community services and facilities, but face numerous financial hurdles with obtaining their licence.’

Encircle Community is putting the call out to our community in order to seek support to help vulnerable young mothers obtain their licence for greater independence and convenience.

The program has recently moved from Stafford Road to the heritage-listed premises at 12 Emerald Street, Kedron. It is open now with its official launched planned for September where YPP will continue to deliver programs that support young parents, help build peer connections, and provide information from a variety of services including midwives and child health nurses.

To provide financial support for the program’s independent transport drive, interested organisations can contact Talitha Eckermann on 0420 794 527 or talithae@encircle.org.au

Remember to Recycle

Did you know that only 50% of mixed recyclables are being placed into yellow lid bins? This means the other half is currently being disposed to general waste bins (25,000 tonnes per annum) and ends up in landfill. To make our region more sustainable ensure all accepted items are effectively sorted and disposed in your yellow lid bin.

Little Writer onto BIGGER Things

13-year-old published author and Albany Creek local Amiel Haddy has recently released the 7th book in his series of action-adventure novels.

Just last year, Echo News boasted the success of Amiel’s first release, as well as his dedication to the craft. From the age of 8, Amiel began his commitment to book-writing and worldbuilding, which ultimately led to the birth of Catman—the notorious superhero his series centres around. Although he is really an 8-year-old boy named Alex, ‘Catman’ spends this book series fighting off evil with his supernatural powers of flight, super-speed, retractable claws, and a super-sonic purr. And how does Alex maintain this wild and wonderful double life? A magic, shapeshifting ring, of course!

Amiel shares that it took him over 12 months to write, illustrate, and publish the final instalment to his series, Catman and the National Hero Tournament. The plot follows Catman and his fellow heroes as they complete four rounds of the tournament to earn points. “I would tell more,” Amiel says. “But I don’t want to spoil the story; you’ll have to read it to see!”

Amiel’s inspiration for the daring tale of test and triumph came from his enjoyment of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, and its focus on the Triwizard Tournament. “I thought it would be fun to put Catman into a tournament with other heroes,” Amiel explains.

Readers can get their hands on a copy of Catman and the National Hero Tournament—or the whole series—by heading to Amiel’s mother’s profile on Facebook marketplace, Oriana M Haddy. A5 copies cost $20 plus $3.50 postage, or larger A4 copies cost $30 plus $6 postage. The cost quoted is for all seven books in the series. One day, Amiel hopes these books

earn a spot on the shelves of bookstores like Dymocks. For now, Amiel will be taking a temporary break from book writing to focus on his high school studies. With the Catman series now at a close, his next endeavour will be to write a more mature fantasy novel for older readers like himself. Echo News, for one, looks forward to its release!

A Roaring Success For Red Ride

A sea of red rode through the streets of the Moreton Bay Region on Saturday May 20, raising awareness for domestic violence.

More than 200 bikes took part in the Moreton Bay Red Ride covering about 184km of road from Caboolture out to Redcliffe, down to Strathpine, across to Dayboro and then on to Woodford and Beerburrum before finishing back in Caboolture at the showground. An afternoon of festivities followed with a show and shine featuring 20 cars, loads of fun and entertainment for all family members.

A beautiful day of fine, sunny weather set the scene for an event that was all about turning heads. Red Ride committee member Randall Macey was grateful for the sunshine and positive feedback they received about the ride.

‘It was a great day, full of red which is what we wanted to see,’ he says. ‘The weather was awesome. When I woke up that morning, I rode out there at 530am to help start the set up and to see the sun coming up was the best view. ’

‘It’s everything – the planning and behind the scenes stressing – it’s all worth it to see the smiles on people’s faces as the ride takes place. We actually had one lady that started tearing up because she realised what the event was for. So when you get people out in the community talking to you and actually recognising this is all about a good cause, it makes it so worth it.’

All too often now we hear about domestic related incidents happening to families out there and the Red Ride is all about trying to combat it from happening.

‘We can’t save everybody,’ Randall says. ‘As much as you want to help everybody and give them all the money, you just can’t. But if you can save say 10% out there, that’s 10% more getting the help they need.’

Creating awareness is a big focus of the Red Ride with participants encouraged to wear red or even add the flag featuring the event emblem to their bike. All funds raised from the day will be donated to organisations that provide services and support to victims of domestic violence.

For Randall, doing his part to make his bike stand out was up there as his favourite part of the day.

‘Setting up my bike and having people looking at it was just the best part of it for me,’ Randall says. ‘I had a big flag on the back and another small flag at the front, along with a fair bit of red ribbon all the way around it…I wanted it to stand out. And then riding it, that was pretty special too.’

Planning is already underway for the next Red Ride to be held on May 18 next year, with members of the community

already putting their hands up to take part. But none of it would be possible without the contributions of the many volunteers and sponsors.

‘Planning an event of this size takes quite a lot of combined effort,” Randall says. “There’s a lot of people involved in the background and a lot of unsung heroes. For everyone who helped out and did their bit, whether it was volunteering, sponsorship or riding in the event itself, thank you so much!’

Women in Business 2023

A celebration of the talented women that own (or work in) local businesses in and around the region

Sisters are doing it for themselves in North-West Brisbane (and Australia wide!), with a record number of women running their own small businesses. New figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show 12.1 per cent of the nation’s 5.9 million employed women are now their own boss.

More than a third of all small businesses are run by women, and there’s a blooming world of networking, blogs and entrepreneurial women taking advantage of the trend.

‘If you look at women in particular, they are more formally educated and moving into their family forming years in their 30s, and they have invested more to prepare themselves, with more education, so they want to make sure they can continue a burgeoning career,’ social demographer Mark McCrindle explained.

In this feature, we are celebrating some incredible local businesswomen who have taken a leap of faith and are making a name for themselves in small business. From Travel escorts to Mortgage Brokers, all these ladies are from truly diverse industries. We have also compiled an online ‘Mini Mag’ that contains all the ladies from this edition, so head online to have a read on our website at www.echo-news.com.au

MEN IN BUSINESS

Next month, the ladies will be moving over as the gents take the spotlight in our Men in Business showcase. This advertorial styled feature is extremely popular and allows readers to gain an insight into the talented men that own (or work in) local businesses in and around north west Brisbane. If you have a male employee, or perhaps you, the business owner has major talents, experience or qualifications you would like our community to read about, get in touch! This feature is a fantastic way to expand on the services your business may offer. For more information or to book email admin@echo-news.com.au

Hayley Grant

Meet Hayley Grant, founder of HMG Home Loans

based in beautiful Samford.

Upon finishing high school in 1995, Hayley had big dreams of joining the police force and began studies to make this a reality.

Whilst studying, Hayley started a part time job with Suncorp Bank and soon became a revered member of the team impressing each and every executive as she climbed the corporate ladder. Ultimately, this saw Hayley becoming a Lending Manager at Chermside - one of Suncorp's busiest branches in Brisbane. This was the beginning of an unforeseen career in finance.

After 15 years with Suncorp, and many national awards as a Lending Manager, she took a massive leap (along with many sleepless nights) and started her own company - HMG Home Loans. She was 32, single and had just purchased a home in Hamilton. Talk about pressure! It was the unknown, the lack of a stable income (and only income) and starting a business from scratch.

In her first year as a Mortgage Broker, Hayley won the 'New Broker of the Year' award at a national conference. This was to be the start of many award recognitions for the hard work she has put into establishing and running this successful business solo.

Fast forward to 2023, Hayley is a mother of two, Charlotte (8) and Cooper (5). She continues to run her business full time from home and is actively involved in the kids’ school and the local community. She was recently recognised for these efforts and awarded the Peter Dutton 2023 Dickson Community Service Award on Australia Day. After 28 years in finance, Hayley still loves what she does and derives joy and satisfaction from helping clients achieve their financial goals whilst guiding them along the way. Natalee Sands

Owner - Aesthetic Blinds & Design

“I have many clients say they felt daunted by the task of choosing new window coverings, and that I make the process easy. It’s the biggest compliment”

Natalee Sands is the Founder of Aesthetic Blinds and Design - a trusted local business offering custom-made blinds and shutters, with a personalized service.

After a decade in the window furnishings industry, Natalee created Aesthetic Blinds to not only supply a huge range of quality Blinds, Shutters and Curtains, but to take the hard work out of the process.

Now, 12 years later Aesthetic Blinds has gained a reputation in the community for being a trusted source of quality custom-made products, sourced from local manufacturers.

In fact, Natalee makes the job of finding blinds and shutters easy and works with her clients to achieve their desired result. The first step is to have a personal inhome consultation, where she will discuss your windows, doors and requirements for light, heat and air control, as well as the look you would like to create. She will also bring her huge range of samples, in addition to a photo gallery, to help clients visualise the finished look. Once a product is chosen, Natalee will then keep her clients up-to-date with the ordering and installation processes. “I’m very proud of the large range I supply; there is so much variety available, and I love to assist local home owners to create the vibe they are looking for in their home,” says Natalee.

Broadway Hit Musical Premiering in Warner

Get ready for the next installment of tremendous theatre from local community group Growl Theatre.

The group are busy in rehearsals for their next production, ‘Rope’ by Patrick Hamilton, directed by Brendan James & Charles Langford . Here is a quick synopsis of what is in store: A brilliantly tense play from Patrick Hamilton, the author of Gaslight, which was performed by Growl Theatre in 2022. Believing themselves to be intellectually superior to their contemporaries, two flatmates murder their friend purely to see if they can get away with it.

They then throw a cocktail party, serving food from the top of the trunk where they have hidden his body. Tension and suspicions increase as the evening wears on.

The show hits the stage on the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th and 15th July 2023. Shows commence at 7.30pm on the Friday and Saturday evenings, with Matinee shows starting at 2pm. The play will take place at the Windsor School of Arts, 381 Lutwyche Road, Windsor. Tickets are $20 for an Adult, $17 for a concession and $15 for groups of 6+. Tickets can be reserved online www.growltheatre.org.au or email boxoffice@ growltheatre.org.au

More information about Growl Theatre, visit https:// growltheatre.org.au. New members are always welcome!

Take A Bow

Local residents are set to be treated to a spectacular performance by the Brisbane Musical Theatre in their latest production ‘Tuck Everlasting.’

With experienced actors and a great orchestra, this play will be filled with twists and turns, comedy and beautiful songs with incredible melodies and harmonic ensemble singing. The four performances will take place on the 4th, 5th and 6th July at the Emerge Church, 1 Coorparoo Road, Warner.

Synopsis:

What would you do if you could live forever...just by drinking some water from a hidden spring in the deep Foster woods? It's the 1880's in Treegap New Hampshire, a small village in North-East America and 11-year-old Winnie Foster yearns for a life of adventure beyond her white picket fence, but not until she becomes unexpectedly entwined with the Tuck Family does she get more than she could have imagined. When Winnie learns of the truth behind the Tuck’s unending youth, she must fight to protect their secret from those who would do anything for a chance at eternal life. As her adventure unfolds, Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life, or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey.

Brisbane Musical Theatre’s goal is to produce great productions,

An update from The Hills Players Community Theatre Group

The Hills Players ‘Disfunctional’ production, proved to be a whole lot of fun. The group was confident the plays were entertaining, but they never quite know how the performance will be received until they perform live. That’s the beauty and mystery of live theatre. By all reports, the audience really enjoyed the plays, which is always the ultimate aim.

Each of the five plays brought something a little different to the stage. Deception, introspection, frustration, humour, and of course a healthy dose of disfunction. There is of course a lot of work required in the lead up and on the night of the performances. The Hill Players would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the production the success that it was; from front of house, sound and lighting, backstage managers to prompts, every role is integral to ensuring things run smoothly. Special thanks to our patron Tim Mander Member for Everton for the donation of the bountiful hamper. Our most heartfelt thanks goes to the audiences, their continued support makes it all worthwhile. The group, looks forward to their next production, watch this space for future updates. In the meantime, The Hills Players will be holding their annual Trivia night, always a great evening. So, stay tuned for more information in the next edition, or check-out the Hills Players Facebook page.

using great processes with great performers. Their ultimate aim is to inspire and engage actors and audiences alike, transforming them with powerful stories.

The education charity is aiming to raise $6.2 million nationally to give over 14,000 children across Australia access to its proven learning and mentoring programs. It comes as a survey released by the charity found Australians believe the cost-of-living crisis is having a greater impact on education than the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey also found that more people believe child poverty has worsened because of the crisis.

Members of the Aspley club also help students by fundraising at luncheon meetings, various other functions and events and generous donations of time, skills and funds from members. To find out more about Aspley VIEW Club or if you would like to join visit view.org.au or contact President Robyn at killoranr@bigpond.com or Membership Officer Dianne at diannerandall8@bigpond.com.

SESSIONS AT THE LEAGUES CLUB

Last month the Samford Museum celebrated Volunteers Week by sharing their wisdom with the younger generation.

Over several weeks, Samford Museum volunteer members were busy sharing their knowledge of the day-to-day lives of earlier generations with Years 1, 2 and 3 from ten schools. To say these information session were popular was an understatement, with class numbers from four of the schools warranting visits over two days. Samford Museum volunteers were heard whispering ‘Bring on the school holidays- the oldies need a holiday!!’

The museum is always looking for volunteers to offer a helping hand, just some of the tasks may include; accessioning of objects so we know where to find them, repairing machines, collecting, documenting and preserving Samford’s history in various ways. Mrs Bucket’s priority of ‘keeping up appearances’ means to members all of the above and that the grounds are tidy and buildings maintained. If you have some time to spare and skills to offer please email info@ samfordmuseum.com.au or call the President Geoff on 0417 610 983.

The museum is open to the public on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10am -4pm. Here, you can see firsthand the results of many, many volunteers labours since the subcommittee within The Samford Progress Association was reconstituted into The Samford District Historical Museum Society on the 30th July 1984. Incorporation was granted on 28th February 1985.

We are conducting a Technology Program in the Arana Leagues Club Boardroom, on the second Wednesday of each month, the next one is on the 14th June. Cost $15, from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Our tutor is Graham McDermott ‘The Tech Tutor’ and the topic for June is Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and messaging applications). Who is this for? Anyone who has not used these services before and would like to or perhaps someone that has used one or all of them and would like to know which is better/ safer to use.

To book, go to the Hills Chamber Website www. hillschamber.org.au and follow the prompts (see below)

Everton

Youth Crime Epidemic

Enough is enough. How many more tragedies have to occur before the Palaszczuk Government implements real reform to combat the youth crime crisis tearing our State apart. Unfortunately, our district has not been immune from the youth crime crisis that has gripped our state.

I’ve had a number of local residents come to my office to personally communicate the ordeal their families endured as victims of young criminals. Properties being broken into, cars and valuables stolen and in one incident, the offending youths returning on three occasions, the last time armed with a tomahawk to bash the front door in! These crimes have not only cost the victims thousands of dollars in damages, their trauma, as a result of these home invasions, is real and ongoing. There must be consequences for actions, detention as a last resort must be removed and we need gold standard early intervention that diverts young offenders away from a life of crime.

Winner of Colour Run

Albany Creek State School

celebrated the end of the first Term with their annual Colour Run. I couldn’t resist joining in the fun armed with a super water pistol! It was an additional honour to donate a bike for the winner of the Colour Run Raffle and present it to her on assembly. Congratulations Ellie!!!

Anzac Day is our national day of remembrance to honour those who have fought for our freedom, and I am always moved and grateful to be included and participate in many of the Anzac Ceremonies across the Everton Electorate. It is always an honour to be invited and I truly appreciate the importance of these events in our community. I find it encouraging to see so many of our local schools and sporting clubs participating.

Senior School Leader’s Lunch at Parliament House

This month I had the pleasure of welcoming the senior school leaders from Prince of Peace College and Northside Christian College to Parliament house for a tour and lunch. It is always interesting and refreshing to listen to the younger generations’ views on tackling some of today’s issues.
