With a change of dates from it’s traditional week in midJune to mid-August the Region 8 Championship Show committee took a challenging situation and pulled off a very successful show.
Held in Denver at the National Western Events Center complex, Wednesday’s schedule was a combination of the traditional Lead-In Show and the beginning of the Regional Championship classes. Lead-In classes were held in the Stadium and Events Center with Regional Classes commencing at 6pm in the Events Centers.
Thursday morning saw Regional Championship classes starting at 8am in the Events Center
The morning session included not only two Ranch Pleasure Exhibition classes, but the first of the classes with serious added payback from the Mile High English Pleasure Payback, sponsored by Gilbert Contracting, Inc.
Not surprisingly, the Hunter Pleasure classes were some of the largest classes, in large part driven by Sally Randle’s extremely competitive barn full of top level horses and riders.

Friday was a busy day at the Events Center. Besides a full slate of classes starting with Breeding In Hand classes at 8am.
The Friday evening session included one ot the coolest classes at Region 8, their tradition Pro-Am fundraising class.This year the class was again dedicated to raising awareness of the Wounded Warrior project and as always, amazing trainers from Region 8 took time out of their busy schedule to participate!

Saturday the Performance Halter classes started the day and featured the largest Halter or In-Hand class of the show, theArabian Performance Halter Geldings, won by MA Razputin.
Five more classes awarded Mile High English Pleasure Payback prize money, including the largest class of the show, the HACountry English PleasureAAOTR won by ExesAnd Ohs and ridden by Elizabeth Moore.
The day wrapped up with the Colorado Breeders Challenge halter classes.

Sunday and Monday at Region 8 was all about Working Western, starting off with Western and EnglishTrail and followed by Ranch Riding.
The highest score inTrail was an impressive 76 scored byThom Thom+// ridden by Jim Hitt in the HAWesternTrail Open. Tommy winning a trail class doesn’t come as a shock as he won his first Regional Championship in trail a decade ago.ThomThom’s win, at the age of 24, proves that in theTrail division age and experience are definitely a plus!
The highest score in Ranch Riding was again posted by Jim Hitt riding WGAIma Copy Katnic+// scoring a 76.5 to win the Championship in the Half Arabian Ranch Riding Open a placing he repeated for his owner SandyAugustine in theATR.
Region 8 Championship “Cow Classes” included Herd Work and Reined Cow.The Herd Work class is a bit like the Cutting class with one really big difference. Unlike the Cutting division, the rider and horse work as partners in working the cow—the is no penalty for the rider steering the horse.The high score for Herd Work was in the HalfArabian Open Division scored by My Golden Gal+// ridden by Shellee Kotera.
The Region 8 Reined Cow division included Reined Cow and “Limited” Reined Cow championships. Unlike Pleasure classes where the term “limited” refers to the number of blue ribbons a horse or rider has won, in the Reined Cow division, the term defines the maneuvers required—or rather not required —of a Limited Reined Cow entry. While the Reined Cow horses must “box” and then also work the cow on a pattern and turn them “down the fence” the Limited Rein Cow class simply demonstrates the “boxing” of the cow at the short end of the pen. In both situations, the winner is determined by a combination of two scores. One score for a reining pattern and the other score from working the cow.
