Gabbia di Mercato Gabbia di Mercato or the Market Cage is the most recent project in my arsenal. The scheme itself is located in Genoa, Italy and is part of a bigger group masterplan. The building brings together the different markets in the city. As a market, it welcomes not only the local Genoese goods but crafts and flavours from various cultures that has recently migrated to the city and have called it their home. The image on the left shows a technical perspective section of the open market with a greenhouse on its roof. It starts to suggest ways of how the building can be brought together. The two renders on the top shows how the building can be seen from the outside. It can be seen how the fin-like columns make the building look solid at some angles and open through others.

The Mountain A 5th year project located in Toxteth, Liverpool, The Mountain creates a new residential block by the Toxteth Town Hall. The building gives new green spaces within their building block and gives everyone a balcony to enjoy views towards the city. A central garden and garden plots on the Reservoir start to bring the residents together and create a new community within the town. To have cheaper flats, the whole building is created within a specific grid based on standard sizes for prefabricated materials. The building itself is built with mainly SIP’s panels as these are relatively cheap and can be erected quickly. The image on the left shows a rendered technical perspective section that starts to show how the building can be built and look. The image on the lower left start to show how the central core shows how neighbours can meet and interact within. The right image shows a roof plan of The Mountain and its immediate context.

Wirral Connected was a mini group project with other students that architecture students might work with in the future such as architectural technicians, quantity surveyors, and estate managers. Located in the Wirral and sponsored by Peel, the masterplan creates new offices and residential units in an attempt to bring more people in Merseyside. The main building focused on by the group is an office block in the masterplan. To celebrate the industrial past that the town had, the building is proposed to use Corten steel. The offices creates several balconies with gardens for the office workers to relax in and take their breaks.

7 Arts The 7 Arts is another group project in 5th year. Located along the river front of Birkenhead, the 7 Arts creates studios, galleries, and offices to celebrate the 7 arts: Dance, Music, Theatre, Painting, Literature, Architecture, and Sculpture. The scheme attempts to create a place for creativity and ideas to thrive and be shared. The masterplan creates plenty of promenade and green spaces for people to fully enjoy Birkenhead and a place to overlook the Liverpool waterfront. The masterplan also creates a Birkenhead skyline that will start to tempt visitors to go to Birkenhead making both sides of the river interesting. The renders start to show how the buildings make start to look like and how the tall buildings make the Birkenhead skyline look alluring.

Like Moth a Flame was the final project from BA. The scheme creates towers along Druridge Bay in Northumberland. The towers will change on the size and what it accommodates depending on where along the 7 mile beach. The example building has a youth hostel, restaurant, gallery and viewing decks. The scheme takes inspiration from the many marram grass that has taken roots within the dunes. It sprouts out of the sand and guides visitors to where they want to go . The plans on the right show how each floor slowly changes and seem like they are moving. The interior renders start to show how inside the building looks like its in a bunker in ode to the concrete bunkers from the war that can be found along the beachfront. The night render shows how the buildings light up at night and guide the visitors along the beach to where they need to be. Like moth to a flame they will be attracted to these glowing orbs and have goals in their walk along Druridge Bay.

The Growing Library The Growing Library is another third year project in BA. Located by Manors station in the city centre of Newcastle. The project is based on a strong grid with blocks that can be added on as knowledge grows and the library grows bigger. Located along the tracks of an abanadoned train station, the scheme reopens the station and creates a new destination. The library is open for all and brings in books from both universities and travelling libraries.

Living in the UK has opened my eyes to different types of architecture. Travelling in and around Europe further exposed me to what architecture could be and how it affects more than the people it was built for. Choosing to undertake this course has expanded my knowledge to look beyond ex what is built and take inspirations from everyone and everything around me. I have learnt that a building is not simply a shield against the weather but an embodiment of feelings and memories. Architecture has taught me to fully appreciate what is around me and carefully observe how people interact so that I may use this stacked knowledge in the future. However, I believe that the next stage in my career is to step on the shoulder of giants and slowly learn and an experience the industry myself. I know that I lack some practical knowledge and that is exaclty why I wish to fully engage myself within the industry. I know that these next steps are vital in my growth as an architectural graduate.
