SARAH LAVIN

Sarah Lavin a young and influential Irish sprint hurdle athlete for the 100-meterhurdle with dreams of making the Olympics.

Sarah was close in 2016 to compete in Rio but unfortunately suffered an injury. She embodies the spirit of our generation. I admire her for her courage and dedication as she refuses to let the injury devastate her. She transforms her weaknesses to strengths and dreams of becoming the first Irish woman to make it to the Olympic finals in sprint distances. I am in awe of her aspirations, she speaks highly of her way towards her success and inspires others to follow their dreams. My interest in Sarah Lavin lies in her ability to show us that no matter what you go through or what the odds against you are, anything is still possible. In spite of what’s stacked against you, you can always come out on top if you’re strong and want it bad enough.

She gives me hope that anything is possible and to follow my dreams.

SET FOR GOLD In collaboration with Irish Athlete Sarah Lavin, Adidas will launch a Women’s Apparel Collection for Spring Summer 2020. Taking aesthetic inspiration from Lavin’s love of sport and aspirations to compete in the Olympics 2020, the collection will focus on the Olympics being held in Tokyo. It will be inspired by the Japanese historical culture and silhouettes portrayed in traditional Japanese paintings, also keeping the Irish key iconography across the range. Aspects of it will appear across the collection with the colour of the collection taken from the Bratach na hÉirinn- the Irish tricolour green, white and gold along with red for Japan’s ‘Circle of the sun’. The collection targets the millenials of Ireland and Team Ireland. “SET FOR GOLD” concept focuses on the Adidas slogan “Impossible is Nothing” signifying to always strive to go further and break new ground and surpass your limits. The collection focuses on encouraging the millenials to continue to participate in sport activites and to suceed in their aspirations.

INSPIRATION FOR FABRIC IDEAS=MESH KIMONO JAPAN, 1800-1850, SILK CREPE WITH TIE.

SCREEN PRINT PROCESS EXPERIMENTING PRINT SAMPLES:

SPREAD OIL ON THE TRACING SHEET, TO TRANSFER TO THE SCREEN USING EMULSION SCREENS ON SCREEN LIGHT SENSITIVE- EXPOSED OIL UP IMAGES ONTO THE SCREEN USING ULTRA VIOLET LIGHT.

WHITE INK HAS A PUFF BINDER IN THE INK. HEAT PROCESS TO GIVE IT A 3D TEXTURED IMAGE.

SQUEEGEE = THE TOOL USED TO CONTROL THE INK IN ORDER TO PRINT.

ALWAYS FLUID THE SCREEN FIRST = THE FIRST LAYER OF INK ON THE SCREEN. EXAMPLE IN IMAGES ABOVE, PRINTED ON THE PLASTIC SHEET IN ORDER TO FIND THE POSITION OF THE PRINT ONCE PRINTING.

HANAKOTOBA IS A JAPANESE FORM OF THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS. TAKEN INSPIRATION FROM THE JAPANESE FLORALS I CREATED PRINTS FOR THE SPRING SUMMER WOMEN’S APPAREL COLLECTION. THE PRINTS WILL FEATURE THROUGHOUT THE COLLECTION, TWO TYPES OF SCREEN PRINTING TECHNIQUES WILL BE USED - 3D SCREEN PRINTING AND FLAT SCREEN PRINTING. THE 3D SCREEN PRINTING AND FLAT SCREEN PRINTING PROCESSES ARE THE EXACT SAME - PRINTED BY HAND, THE DIFFERENCE BEING THE 3D SCREEN PRINT IS CREATED BY COMBINING THE BINDER WITH SELECTASINE PIGMENTS IN DISPERSION. THE OPTIMUM EFFECT IS ACHIEVED WHEN THE PRINT IS DRY, HEAT IS APPLIED AFTER AND THE PRINT SIMULTANEOUSLY RAISES INTO A 3D PRINT. THE PUFF BINDER HAS A SEUDE LIKE, MATTE FINISH.
