01 Flow Art Museum San Antonio, Texas

University of Texas at San Antonio September 2025 Software: Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop Course: Design 3 Year: 2

The Flow Art Museum, located in San Antonio’s Friedrich Wilderness Park, is designed as a seamless extension of its natural surroundings. The building follows a continuous flow that connects indoor galleries, shaded courtyards, and outdoor gathering spaces. Soft interior curves and open layouts encourage movement while creating visual connections between art, visitors, and the surrounding landscape. Constructed from white adobe, ceder wood, and polished concrete, the material palette emphasizes warmth, texture, and sustainability. Daylight enters through clerestory and floorto-ceiling windows, reducing the need for artificial lighting while maintaining a strong connection to nature. Natural cross-ventilation and rainwater conservation further support a comfortable and environmentally responsive museum experience.

SITE PLAN

The floor plan is organized around a central lobby that separates public and private spaces. The private areas include a classroom and office, while the public areas feature large and small galleries for sculptures and wall art. Circulation through the galleries leads to a covered outdoor space with seating, tables, and plants, creating a smooth transition between the interior and surrounding environment.

NET ZERO BUILDING

This environmentally conscious building focuses on natural daylight, passive ventilation, and water conservation. Natural light enters through the central courtyard and clerestory windows, illuminating interior spaces and reducing the need for artificial lighting. Cool air enters through the front louvers and circulates throughout the building, while warm air exits through upper louvers at the back. The sloped roof and patio covering collect rainwater and direct it toward surrounding vegetation, promoting a more sustainable design.

02 VILLAS DEL MAR Bucerías, Mexico

University of Texas at San Antonio September 2025 Software: Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop Course: Design 3 Year: 2

Set along Mexico’s coast, this project draws inspiration from the fluid forms of the shoreline and the calming rhythm of the ocean. Each floor follows an organic shape that frames expansive sea views, while generous balconies extend from every bedroom and living space to soften the boundary between indoors and out. The smooth façade uses positive and negative space to create depth, texture, and natural shade in response to the tropical climate.

Adobe, stucco, and Mexican royal ebony ground the design in regional materials, craftsmanship, and sustainability. Shared amenities such as, a coffee shop, community kitchen, and infinity pool, encourage social connection while supporting a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Together, these elements create a warm, sculptural building that blends modern living with the beauty of its natural setting.

Each unit is organized around an open floor plan, with the living and sleeping spaces positioned along the exterior edge to maximize ocean views. Large floor-toceiling windows allow natural light to reach deep into the interior, and every bedroom and living room has direct access to the wraparound balconies. This creates a seamless connection between indoor living spaces and the surrounding coastal environment.

03 TILTING AXIS SAN ANTONIO, TX

University of Texas at San Antonio September 2025 Software: Rhino, Illustrator, Photoshop Course: Design 4 Year: 2

The Axis Museum of Modern Art and Sculpture, located in downtown San Antonio, is designed around a central vertical axis that defines the building’s form and circulation. The structure features a series of stacked volumes and terraces that create outdoor gathering spaces while connecting visitors to the surrounding urban environment. The prominent hydro wall serves as both an architectural focal point and an environmental feature, emphasizing the building’s vertical and guiding its overall design. Constructed from white limestone, basalt brick, concrete, and aluminum, the material palette creates a balance of light and dark textures. The inward-sloping roof collects rainwater and directs it toward the hydro wall, where excess water is stored in an underground cistern for landscape irrigation. Solar panels, deep roof overhangs, and vertical louvers help reduce energy consumption, while planted terraces and rooftop gardens support biodiversity and sustainability throughout the building.

ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS

The museum integrates sustainable systems focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, and biodiversity. Solar panels, roof overhangs, and vertical louvers reduce energy demand, while the hydro wall helps regulate interior temperatures. Sloped roofs collect rainwater for storage in an underground cistern and reuse in landscape irrigation. Planted terraces, rooftop gardens, and native vegetation support local ecosystems and create a more environmentally responsive building.
