WELCOME On behalf of the Karting Australia Board, Staff and Members I’d like to welcome you to Round Two of the 2021 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship presented by Castrol EDGE. If the opening round last month in Ipswich is anything to go by, we’re in for a sensational weekend of racing.

To be able to have an entry list of close to 300 for the second consecutive event is very pleasing and continues the great start to the year for the sport at all levels.

The racing across all of the classes at round one was some of the best that I’ve seen for many years and to have a number of young drivers stand on the podium and enjoy the spoils of spraying the champagne for the first time is always a special moment.

While credit goes to all of the winners, a special mention must also go to the

fast females who continue to prove that it doesn’t matter if you’re male or female in the sport of karting everyone is equal. Kudos must go to Taylah Agius who did an amazing job in the KZ2 class, as did Aiva Anagnostiadis and Alice Buckley in KA2 along with Oceane Colangelo in Cadet 12 and Lana Flack in Cadet 9 – all five are right in contention for the 2021 Ladies Trophy.

The Todd Road circuit that we’re at this weekend is undoubtedly one of the best in the country and always produces some fantastic racing – I’d expect that will again be the case this weekend. I look forward to seeing if some of the interstate competitors can take a winner’s trophy back home, or if it would be the local drivers who will dominate.

their Championship campaigns and if you’re here just checking out the action I hope you get the karting bug and you’re on track soon.

Introducing the AKC

What is the AKC?

The SP Tools Australian Kart Championship presented by Castrol EDGE is the premier karting Championship in the Southern Hemisphere.

Contested across five rounds throughout four states of Australia, the Championship attracts the best drivers from all across Australia to compete for the honour of being crowned Australian Champion in their respective Class.

The elite KZ2 class is recognised internationally as the pinnacle of karting in the world with drivers utilizing sixspeed gearbox engines and reaching speeds in excess of 140 km/h on most circuits in the Championship.

The KA2 class is Australia’s elite level of junior competition.

Former Champions and Round Winners in this class are making a significant mark in the world of motorsport including the likes of 2020 FIA Formula 3 Champion Oscar Piastri and recent Ferrari Academy Inductee James Wharton.

X30 has attracted significant interest over the past few Championships with drivers using the IAME X30 125cc powerplant.

TaG 125 is Australia’s multi-engine category that sees the Rotax Max, IAME X30 and PRD Galaxy used by various drivers while KA3 Senior is a staple of Australian karting with the IAME KA100 engine easily able to be transformed from the KA4 Junior class into KA3 Senior.

The Cadet 9 and 12 classes are the sub-junior classes in the championship with drivers as young as seven dicing it out in the Cadet 9 division. For these drivers, it is as much about learning car control and driving techniques during their formative years as it is about greeting the chequered flag first. Drivers in both of these classes are powered by a 60cc Vortex Mini Rok engine, which is used in a similar specification in more than 20 countries around the world.
