Artist Bio
Karine “KARISHOK” Dulyan is a contemporary artist based in Yerevan, Armenia. She exhibited her first works at the age of five an early sign of a lifelong need to create, observe, and connect. Her artistic world is deeply shaped by music, which she experiences as a guiding force rather than a background rhythm, pause, and emotional tone inform both her process and visual language. Karishok is drawn to people above all else: their feelings, thoughts, contradictions, and the intricate embroidery that emerges from it all. She believes that places are never just spaces they are reflections of the people who shaped them, carrying memory, temperament, and lived emotion. This perspective allows her to find beauty in often overlooked, chaotic, or seemingly ordinary environments. Her work moves between urban fragments, imagined cities, figures, and intuitive color compositions. She has a natural tendency to bring people together and sees life as a continuous flow, where everything emotions, ideas, memories, and encounters is interconnected.
Inspired by music, scientific discovery, biology, and neuroscience, Karishok approaches painting as a dialogue between intuition and understanding. Her deep love for life, light, beauty, and human character lies at the core of her practice.
Artist Statement
Inside me lives a “family” of artists. Each one steps forward for a while, paints, then gives space to another with a different mood, rhythm, and way of seeing. This inner plurality is the engine of my practice. It reflects a constant movement between structure and freedom, doubt and hope, control and surrender.
My process is intuitive and imperfect. Mistakes are unavoidable and essential. As philosopher Daniel Dennett wrote, making mistakes is the key to making progress. I experience painting as a conversation with uncertainty, where wrong turns often reveal unexpected harmony.
I feel that contemporary art is slowly returning toward beauty not decorative beauty, but the kind that nourishes the human spirit. After years of distance and irony, we are remembering the human need for harmony, warmth, and emotional resonance.
Neuroscience offers an intriguing parallel: the brain responds strongly to supernormal stimuli to rhythm, contrast, repetition, and well-tuned relationships of form and color. Much like music, certain combinations of color and form can trigger a quiet, bodily sense of joy. My work is an intuitive exploration of this phenomenon.
I believe music is the fifth dimension of life. It guides my painting, and I feel that each canvas contains its own sound. If a work awakens a memory, a smile, or an inner melody, then one voice from my internal family has reached you and that connection is where art truly begins.
