JOHN DORSEY

John Dorsey, Associate Professor of Music at Eastern Michigan University, maintains an active teaching and performing career.

His teaching duties include applied percussion, Percussion Ensemble, African Ensemble, percussion methods class and instructing the Marching Band drumline. Mr. Dorsey is currently Principal Percussionist for the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra, the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and the Saginaw Bay Orchestra. In addition to these permanent positions, he substitutes frequently with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, with which he has also recorded and toured. When not performing in one of these situations, he performs for professional musical theater productions, national touring artists, percussion groups, jazz/dance bands and other freelance opportunities in the Southeast Michigan area. He performed and recorded as Timpanist and Percussionist with the Detroit Concert Band during its final years of existence under the direction of Dr. Leonard B. Smith, has performed as guest soloist with concert bands and he continues to conduct educational clinics and adjudicate at festivals and competitions throughout the region. Mr. Dorsey received his Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Michigan where he studied with Charles Owen and his Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas where he studied with Richard Brown and Phil Kraus.

MARK B. FELDER

Mark B. Felder has been band director at Monroe County Community College for twentytwo years. Before and during that time he was the band director of the award-winning Jefferson High School Bands for twenty-nine years. Mark served twelve years in local and state offices of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, including President of District 12. He was named Band Director of the Year for District 12 of MSBOA. He also was named Music Alumnus Guest Conductor of the Year in 1988 for Eastern Michigan University. Mark has been musical director for over 150 musicals including 12 years as a musical director at Croswell Opera House in Adrian, MI. He received the prestigious Jeff nomination in Chicago for Best Musical Direction for the second national tour of Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim. He has been a guest lecturer at The University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, University of Toledo, and Adrian College. He was recently name musical director for the Dodworth Saxhorn Band, a Civil Era Brass Band. Mark is owner of Vivo Productions, a local recording studio. He is a regular performer with the Johnny Knorr Orchestra out of Toledo, Ohio and has toured with Stars of the Lawrence Welk, Manhattan Transfer, and the Shrine Circus. Mark and his wife, Ann, have three children and live in Monroe, Michigan.

Groups of 15 or more, seniors, and MCCC staff and students can receive a $2 discount off the full ticket price when tickets are purchased in person at the MCCC Cashier’s Office prior to the day of the event. Discounts will not be given the day of the performance. Tickets are based on availability, so please make your plans early.

purchase up to two tickets at half price 30 minutes before the start of any show.
