The middle school program provides the stable and supportive atmosphere necessary for students to excel in English, math, history, science, world languages, and the arts. With a respect for diverse learning styles and interdisciplinary teaching, the middle school program is infused with cooperative and exploratory learning experiences, allowing students to flourish in an environment that recognizes the developmental needs and interests of early adolescents. High school students are encouraged to pursue a level of study appropriate to their individual abilities, interests, and personal growth. Honors classes are available to students who demonstrate superior achievement in their core subjects. A wide range of Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment courses allow students to advance more rapidly, explore subjects more fully, and prepare for the rigors of college work.

The arts department promotes artistic self-development through the emphasis on creativity and mastery of skills. At all levels of play, athletics help students develop confidence and learn important life lessons. LuHi student athletes are challenged to grow in discipline, determination, cooperation, and teamwork. Competing in a variety of independent school leagues, our athletic teams emphasize participation at the middle school level and skill development and inter-scholastic competition at the junior varsity and varsity levels.

While owned by an association of Lutheran churches throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties, LuHi welcomes students of all faith backgrounds. Our spiritual life programs provide students with the opportunity to development their faith as part of a caring, Christian community. All students attend religion classes, which use the Scriptures as a basis of faith, commitment, and moral living. Our weekly chapel services provide students and faculty the opportunity to worship together as a school. Students participate in the process of planning and leading services and perform for their fellow students in a variety of choir, music, and dance ensembles.

Christian Ministry programs at LuHi strive to help students develop a personal faith that is evidenced by a life of commitment and service. Opportunities for Christian service are provided in and out of the classroom that actively engage students in the spirit of giving and help foster lifelong service to the community. LuHiâ€™s service opportunities reflect our studentsâ€™ dedication to activities that feed the hungry, aid the homeless, comfort the sick, and advance racial and cultural tolerance.

Community is at the heart of the LuHi experience. As a community we work together to bring out the best in each other and to ensure that all voices are heard and supported. From collaborative learning to the wealth of opportunities to get involved, LuHi encourages participation and inclusivity at every turn. THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS AT LUHI IS DESIGNED TO HELP US IDENTIFY STUDENTS WHO WILL THRIVE IN OUR SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT. WE WELCOME APPLICATIONS FROM STUDENTS WHO ARE BRIGHT, CREATIVE, AND MOTIVATED. Families interested in admission to LuHi are encouraged to attend an Open House beginning in September (for admission the following fall). In addition to submitting an application for admission, records release form, and application fee, students are required to take our entrance examination. A review of previous school records and a personal interview with each candidate and family are also required.
