Welcome

Dear Friends,

We are honored to welcome you to the 27th year of Kappa Tablescapes!

Kappa Tablescapes was conceived to raise funds to benefit our selected beneficiaries by featuring the creativity of the Dallas design community. Each year we carefully research and select Dallas area nonprofit agencies to be awarded the proceeds from Tablescapes to aid their organizations which help our community thrive. Our honored beneficiaries are featured in the program, and a donation of any amount will make a significant impact upon the individuals supported by these agencies.

We want to thank our talented table designers and partners who have imagined and presented these stunning table tables and floral designs. After the pandemic, their participation is especially appreciated and we hope you will actively patronize their businesses as a thank you for their e orts on behalf of our beneficiaries.

This year, we honor two Kappa Alumnae who have served both the Dallas community and Kappa Dallas Alumnae Association. Peggy Sewell is our 2021 Platinum Key Honoree and Becky McCamey is our 2021 Honorary Chair. Both of these ladies are inspirational for their commitment to supporting those in need. We are especially grateful to our Tablescapes Committee and volunteers, who have given their time and talents to make this a memorable event.

We wish to thank our speaker, Alex Hitz, for generously serving as our featured speaker. His gift for entertaining is a festive topic as our focus this past year has shifted to planning celebrations at homes. His southern charm and gracious style are a welcome addition to our Tablescapes event.

We are most honored to thank Central Market for twenty years of supporting Kappa Tablescapes. We are awestruck by their matching gift of $20,000. We hope you will help us reach this matching goal which will impact so many lives in Dallas.

With warmest wishes,

Keynote Speaker ALEX HITZ

Kappa Tablescapes is honored to present Alex Hitz, the award-winning Chef, Author, Tastemaker, TV Personality, Lecturer, Columnist, Event Designer, Hospitality Consultant, and Master Host. Alex Hitz is renowned for his sensitivity and refinement in the art of preparing and serving food. Informed by his childhood in Atlanta, and extensive travel from a very young age in France, Alex’s signature style combines the relaxed, warm, but never stu y elegance of the genteel South and a continental élan that captures the essence of gracious living.

Alex’s books, THE ART OF THE HOST, and MY BEVERLY HILLS KITCHEN: Classic Southern Cooking with a French Twist, have garnered editorial raves from The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Departures, Southern Living, O, House Beautiful, and The New York Times. Alex has been a frequent guest on TODAY, The Chew, Access Hollywood, CBS Morning and more than 40 local television broadcasts.

Christened “the very best host in the world” by The Wall Street Journal, Alex’s reputation as “The Ralph Lauren of food and wine” is backed by a lifetime of entertaining and cooking. He draws on an encyclopedic knowledge of the world’s upscale culinary classics as inspiration, as well as six generations of Southern tradition and hospitality.

Alex’s down-to-earth food philosophy is firmly grounded in his mother’s Atlanta kitchen as well as his childhood family home in France. As a teenager, his first job was in an Atlanta restaurant, The Patio by the River, which he later co-owned with his one of his mentors, Mary Boyle Hataway. He trained at Le Cordon Bleu, Paris and Peter Kump's New York Cooking School, which became the Institute of Culinary Education. As a cooking student, he apprenticed in the kitchens of Andre Soltner at Lutèce in New York, and Michel Guerard at Eugenie-Les-Bains in France. Alex is a contributing editor at House Beautiful, and Town & Country, and writes regularly for Departures, C, Southern Living, and Quest. Exclusive Food Columnist for two years at House Beautiful, he shared his step-by-step recipes, tips and no nonsense approach to cooking and entertaining in his monthly column, Alex’s Kitchen.

Alex travels 40 weeks a year: cooking, lecturing, and entertaining, for parties of 5 to 5000. When he is not traveling he lives between New York City and Los Angeles.

2021 Kappa Tablescapes

Key Honoree

Each year, the Tablescapes Chairmen select an outstanding member of our alumnae group to serve as the Platinum Key Honoree.

This year, we are honored to present Peggy Sewell for her enduring loyalty to Kappa Kappa Gamma and her heartfelt support of the Dallas community.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Peggy is the epitome of the steel magnolia: full of grace, grit and charm! She attended SMU where she pledged KKG, earned a B.F.A. degree in art history, and remains a loyal supporter of her alma mater. She currently serves on the SMU Meadows Museum Advisory Board. She and her husband, Carl co-chaired the SMU Annual Giving Campaign, and they established the Sewell Meadows Scholarships for students in the Meadows School.

In addition to SMU, Peggy Sewell has provided leadership to numerous organizations benefiting the Dallas community and beyond. Her community service includes membership on the Dallas Museum of Art Board of Trustees, Junior League of Dallas Sustainer Advisory Board, Salvation Army of Dallas Advisory Board, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) Board of Visitors, and St. Martin’s Episcopal School (New Orleans) Alumni Board. She also serves on the board of Baylor Health Care System Foundation and has chaired its Annual Giving Campaign, the SMU Tower Center Board, MD Anderson Cancer Center Board of Visitors, UTSW President's Advisory Board, and the National WWII Board of Trustees.

Her contributions to the arts in Dallas were recognized with the 2013 TACA Silver Cup Award. In addition, she received the Profiles in Leadership Award presented by the annual SMU Women’s Symposium, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority of Dallas Golden Key Award and the Distinguished Alumna Award from St. Martin’s Episcopal School of New Orleans. Peggy and Carl Sewell were honorees at the 2009 SMU Meadows at the Meyerson annual benefit concert and together received the Flora Award from Texas Discovery Gardens. Peggy’s staunch support of education and the arts has touched and lifted so many lives. We are proud to honor Peggy Sewell, for her commitment to Kappa Kappa Gamma and her significant contributions to the Dallas community.

Becky McCamey

2021 Kappa Tablescapes Honorary Chairman

Kappa Tablescapes celebrates 27 years by honoring a legendary Kappa Alumna Becky McCamey as our Honorary Chair.

Becky personifies the altruistic volunteer whose commitment to hard work and dedicated vision has set the standard for Kappa Tablescapes’ philanthropic e orts.

Becky is a Texan through and through! She grew up in Odessa, and attended Texas Tech University where she pledged KKG. After earning her degree in business, she moved to Ft. Worth to work in the oil and gas industry. She met her husband Bob through work, and after a whirlwind courtship, they moved to Dallas as newlyweds.

While raising three sons, she selflessly served her community through volunteer work at Highland Park schools’ parents clubs, Junior League of Dallas, Park Cities Presbyterian Church, and Kappa Dallas Alumnae Association. Her business acumen, and heartfelt desire to support those in need led her to take key roles as a board member of Thrive and CARE, member of Council For Life and founding board member of ScholarShot. While Becky is dedicated to her board responsibilities, she is genuine in her commitment to have an impact at the personal level by serving as a tutor at the West Dallas Community School and leading Bible studies for children and young mothers.

As a Kappa Alumna she has served as both the Alumnae Association President and as a past Tablescapes Chair. During her tenure as President she led the complete review, and update of the organization Bylaws. Her ability to evaluate, improve and implement ideas makes her an asset to all who she has served. Kappa Dallas awarded her with the rarely bestowed Louise Little Barbeck Award for her tremendous contributions to the organization.

When asked about Kappa Tablescapes, she reminds us all:

“I truly believe we would not be the Alumnae Association that we are without Tablescapes. It brings us together as sisters to help our beneficiaries—so important for our calling as people and as a sorority. I’m beyond thankful for Tablescapes and may Kappa sisters. May we all be humbled by the lives that have been blessed through this work.”

These programs focus on experiencing nature, learning new skills, and building meaningful relationships with others who share similar challenges, all under the supervision of the medical care team from their treating hospital. Funds from Kappa Tablescapes will go directly to sending campers with sickle-cell disease to Camp Jubilee. Camp John Marc covers 100% of the cost of this program so that there is no fee for campers to attend.

JONATHAN'S PLACE

MISSION

Jonathan’s Place provides a safe place, loving homes, and promising futures to abused and neglected children, teens and young adults. Dallas County ranks #2 in the State of Texas for sexual abuse of children. For girls ages 10-18 that have been victims of abuse and struggling with complex emotional and behavioral issues, Jonathan’s Place is one of only a few options outside hospitals and residential treatment centers. In the Girl’s Residential Therapeutic Program at Jonathan’s Place, these girls find a place to call home in which they can be safe and work to heal.

MISSION

The Warren Center advocates, serves and empowers the children and families impacted by developmental delays and disabilities. Fifty years ago, very few resources existed for parents of disabled children in Dallas County. With nowhere to turn for help, families lacked support and their children had limited options in life. The Warren Center provides much-needed resources and care to children (ages birth – 8) with disabilities and their families and more importantly, hope and support.

Kappa Tablescapes is providing support for our Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program which provides assessments, occupational, physical, and speech/language therapies, along with specialized skills training for children up to the age of 3.
