OFFSEASON EVENTS AT THE KINGDOM

On April 13, Sporting KC took over GEHA Field at Arrowhead in a match against Inter Miami CF. With 72,610 fans in attendance, this was the largest crowd in Missouri history and the third largest attendance for a standalone MLS regular season match. The intense interconference clash swayed in favor of the visitors on the 28-year anniversary of Kansas City’s inaugural MLS match at Arrowhead Stadium in 1996. Despite a brilliant performance from Sporting midfielder Erik Thommy who scored two goals, Miami emerged victorious with three points from a goal and an assist from 2023 FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi and additional strikes from Diego Gómez and Luis Suárez. More soccer will be held at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in the near future as it was announced that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will play six matches at the stadium, including one quarterfinal match.

Women’s Flag Football Programs dominate GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium

On Sunday, April 21, the Kansas City Chiefs hosted more than 200 athletes from local Missouri high schools who launched their girls Flag Football pilot program this spring for a luncheon and panel at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The panel included Team USA U17 Flag Football Assistant Coach Angellica Grayson; Team USA QB, 3x Gold Medalist and 1x Silver Medalist Vanita Krouch; Chiefs EVP and CMO Lara Krug; and Chiefs Assistant Athletic Trainer Tiffany Morton. KC Current VP of Communications, 2008 Women’s Super Bowl Champion and 2010 Team USA Gold Medalist Dani Welniak moderated the panel, to discuss women working in sports and the growth and pathways of women’s sports today. After the luncheon, participants watched the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Women’s Flag Football Championship Game before participating in a College Flag Football Showcase.
